You did an amazing job on that van. It looks like Cadillac made their own version of the Chevy Astro/GMC Safari. Seeing how this came out it's a shame that Cadillac didn't actually make their own version.
@MyGuy I think the station wagon was a hit and fast. They make a 70s looking van with a custom wrap or airbrush it would sell. Mini fridge, carpet and a bed in the back. If that van is rocking don't bother knocking sticker on the bumper. The FUN that could be had....lol 🤣
This was one of General Motors biggest mistakes to stop makeing these vans for the work truck segment . They were easier to park in tight areas then a full-size .These with vortec 4.3 was a good running work truck and could even get AWD
The fact the Astro is such a tenacious vehicle could be chalked up to be a mistake in and of itself. Considering Ford's equivalents in other vehicles have outlived the GM versions, OBS versus GMT, Econoline vs Express, Crown Victoria vs Caprice, both on the market and on the road, the Astro was the sole exception in that it outlasted the Aerostar. When was the last time you saw one of those? GM realized they made a solid car and had it killed.
Amazing M Van Man! My Dad helped launch this model in 85. Baltimore Assembly Truck Group built theses from 1985 to 2005. Chevy Astro and GMC Safari were the models and it was a 70/30 mix on the production line or less.... The Factory had over 2 Million sq ft of production and assembly space. The plant is no longer there but I worked there for 6.5 years and actually restored a 1986 model for my Dad in 2003. GREAT job and keep posting these customizations of the MVan!
You sir are an astro artist.. one of the finest i’ve seen. It would be way cool if you got another astro to do the later generation esca front end. Seeing the two vans parked together would be out of this world.. RESPECT my friend
I’m on my third Astro/Safari and do a lot of online research so I can do my own repairs. This is the 2nd time I’ve stumbled onto this video and I enjoyed it even more the 2nd time! Amazing, beautiful and imaginative work! You are extremely talented. I look forward to watching the entire conversion series. One thing though - I wish you had put all the Astrolac videos in one Playlist so I could follow along more easily. Well done!
You know if Cadillac would have made production models like this these would have sold like crazy. Nice, Nice Nice job bro, really like what you did to this Astro Van
That's awesome. I was wanting to use a 2020 GMC Sierra front grill and bumpers on my 2001 Astro. Glad to see others have had a similar idea, and made your dream come true. You did a fantastic job.
The ability to visualize something like this, and actually turn it into reality with this much accuracy is absolutely amazing. Awesome job, you've got some serious talent
From one fabricator to another you did a damn sweet ass job it looks like it came from the factory after seeing your van which I have 2 of I thought cadillac should have made their own version
Love the creativity and NOT just buying a pre made kit and following everyone else's footsteps!! It really is something how certain years will swap parts without much hassle.
You know builds like this usually weird me out but I think they are still solid but this one just takes the cake. I dont even feel like this is out of place it looks like a genuine factory produced car. You did an amazing job and I thank you for making me more open minded about builds like this.
As a mechanic with 33 years experience. I always loved GMs interchangeably on so many levels from the drive trains to almost everything else good job too ! Looks sweet
Really cool idea very nicely put together except the paint. It’s missing just the final touches but it is one of the best designs I’ve seen. 👍🏻Keep coming with more videos.
I can't really fault the paint - this was built on a budget to look cool from across the road, and achieves it well. I know when I get hung up on details I never finish projects, so I appreciate him getting it done!
Man. I was a huge fan of the Chevy Astro. I had 2 of them. I Love this. You shouldn't change a thing. Start another project if you will. I would buy this for real.
Remember almost 10 years ago when I was younger coming across your page and see you working on this van now look at where it at you can a long way looks great man! 💪
I always loved the Astro Van’s and you’ve somehow made it so much cooler! Love the front end! Interior is fascinating as well. Love the seats! Way to think outside the box!
Nice conversion....I have the 2003 Chevy Astro...Still in good condition...Right now I got it resting on four jack stands because I'm doing maintenance on it..All wheel drive..Smoke gray inside and out..Spoiler kit all around..Rack on the front end and tail lights..Toe hitch..She's a beast!!!
Awesome haven't seen this type of ingenuity since back in the late 80s in NYC when the young Porta Rocs used to switch up different parts and customize their own ol school whips. You definitely win an Oscar award for your design, Absolutely stunning!!!!! It should called THE ASTROLADE!!!
That is truly a beautiful Astro. Man I remember back in the days guys used to put the ground effects on and a few even chopped it into convertible. Thanks for the nastalgia keep it up
I love this van! I would have used a late 90’s or early 2000’s Escalade wheel and airbag though. It’ll fit right on the at column and the bag will plug right in
Looks great man, I've got a 94 AWD CS EXT myself...best 4.3L, AWD, sweet stock gold tweed and velour type interior, and the extended version (even though I've always thought the little ones looked better). I actually thought about lifting mine and throwing some 30x10.5r16 offroad tires on mine, seeing as I'm out in frozen ND 😅 My 89 Baby DeVille is on 20s though with Sundown U15v2's and full interior audio.... and my 97 GMC RCSB K1500(which I've always thought about buying a first gen Escalade or Yukon Denali front clip for, the rounder style Escalades, they look identical to the 1st Yukon Denali, I've always thought about it because who has a lifted standard cab short bed on 35x12.5" wheels and tires with an Escalade/Denali front clip? Nobody 😅 never got around to it, maybe one day lol) is on a 6" lift on 35x12.5r15 Patagonia's and 15x10 polished ProComp wheels Edit: yo that back 3rd taillight...if that's hollow underneath and is able to grab airflow from the roof and direct it down towards your back window....is actually keeping dirt and grime from collecting on your back window lol.... I'm going to assume you didn't know that and is one of those "happy accidents" 😅 my Astro because I'm always driving it in the rain and snow and crap(plus this little town I live in is surrounded by farmland), my back window is always filthy.... I should make a little turn down spoiler to keep the dirt off mine 🤣
I've never liked Van's but my friend this is the cleanest example of one it has such a unique look I would love one like this one congrats on the great work
I think you should keep this one just as it is and get another one and do it up with the 2016 front bro. You could put both of these in car shows and win. Taking about thinking out side of the box!! Man you nailed that thing!! And this is what win car shows , taking something old or old and bringing it back unique and different & beautiful and brother you check all the boxes
Listen brother,,, you took it to another level ,,, when you have time an me also , I'd like to talk with you , I'm about 2.5 hours from your area !!!! Real talk ,
A job well done! Thank you for taking the time to show us your great work of ART. Hopefully there is more to come and you keep us all posted. What happened on the suspension side and wheels, any info? Maybe add a newer dash, digital or analog, with a few monitors. Like to see a floor center console front to rear with monitors, storage bins, cupholders, and etc! A rear floor extra storage bin, would be an added BONUS! Hope these ideas pop in more plannings!?!? Good Luck! THANKS!
I’m going to do the same thing just like you.... Good job my brother, your ish is very fly..... Also, I wouldn’t care if the parts were real or not.... This car is nice....
Honestly.... i really do like it! It fits very well despite being different! Thats what makes it unique but because of the craftsmanship and how well it was put together makes me like it !
Wow,, I'm so done brother I had the same idea right but I was thinking about the lift top convertion van and put Cadillac seats and grill on it but now you beat me to it bro great job okay 👍😊
Wow, great conversion! Always wanted to at least convert the rear of my '91. Great work combining the front end. Should try and find an Escalade hoot and chop it down to fit!
Wow ! Respect I took the wheels from a journey to my gran caravan and went from 15 in rims to 19! Now I’m looking for a hood from a super car ! Didn’t know people are doing this and honestly I love it !
Really nice .i had a really nice same year gray marble paint ,sun visor, & triple gold daytons with 16 switches. One thing your missing you might like is a custom center console between front seats. BUT nice ass van man !
You did a good job at making those Cadillac Escalade parts fit good. You cant even tell it wasn't a Cadillac 😂 Dam that looks sweet as hell. I like those vans and now i want one like that lol
this right here is the coolest MFing Astrolade I've ever seen! I seen dozens of close-but-no, but you made what I'm going to call the BEST! awesome engineering, my friend!
Awesome job. Absolutely loved my Astro Vans. Did a amazing job on the modifications. Is this the AWD model? Did I here you correct that you did the LS swap too? Did you swap out the fiberglass leaf springs in the rear with steel?
I know this video is 4 years old but it just popped up and I spotted that caddy front clip and was like, whoa, I gotta check this out! lol I like what you did with that Astro. I don't know if you did the work or not but that is one awesome looking van. That caddy front clip is just sick looking. After all you have done I would treat her to a quality paint job, she is worthy! Those Astro vans were great vans and were pretty peppy with the 4.3, especially the vortec...but you just took it to another level with and LS swap. Probably gets better fuel economy too.
See a lot of cracking and orange peel when you get close up to the front fender and back liftgate. Ive seen some astros i like. Mainly the 4wd ones done up to go offroad. The amount of hours that went into this you really need a flawless finish in the end to make it worth the time
This is definitely a " Dare to be Different " build. Straight up 1%, this is pure bad ass. You did a great job man props.
You sad to for saying that Obvious you don't know shit about fixing up a car either
GM needs to hire this guy. His love and ingenuity for his craft is obvious.
GM doesn't want creative individuals. Hell, they don't even like creative divisions.
Ask Pontiac.

the awd setup fits into a 4x4 s10 making a typhoon with a bit of work

Hell yeah 😅
I am amazed at how well the 2013 Escalade front works with the Astro’s bulldog silhouette. Really handsome vehicle.
That is better than the factory design for real. This guy is a genius. God bless!

All that work, unique and actually fairly well done.
...and then he went and let Uncle Smitty do the paint. I've seen less texture on grapefruit.
Hahaha! Damit man. It looks like they just spray painted it with gloss cans

It's called orange peel! Wet sand between coats!
Period correct for 80s black GM :)
