    Brilliant and useful video footage from a top-mechanic. The jobs you do are sure good because: clean and tidy workshop, well organised and very professional appearance. Very impressive, indeed.

    Great content, really enjoying your channel, my girlfriend's dad did 100k a year in his 406 I had the joy of maintaining, endless pain in the rear jobs. Imagine my face when he tells me he'd "upgraded" to the 407.....

    Thank you so much for your educational video.
    I replaced that item today and after watching your videos I had confidence.
    The only tool I wish I had was the socket to undo the wheel hub bolt.
    Thanks again.
    Any chance of a video on how to change the cam belt?

      Amazing how they've got this 'trick' suspension setup, yet still handle like a barge.
      That said, the ride is pretty good if you're into that whole 'detached from actually driving' kind of thing.

    No need to remove shaft or arm !!
    Just remove disc, put solid stand under the suspension and lower the car (to have access to lower ball joint screws).
    Remove the screws with torx spanner, rotate ball joint (honestly not ball joint but bearing) and remove it.

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adam Łukasik I have tried the way you describe but with this particular car in the vid without releasing the bottom arm & removing the c.v. joint from the hub would have made access to the seized inner bearing more difficult to remove. But whatever works for us, so long as we get the job done. Thanks for watching

      So it is time to check another front suspension for example Ford Focus RS and his Revo knuckle, next is Opel Insignia first gen. and his hiper strut, Renault Megane RS,...They have same solution for their knuckles. It is based on motorsport.

      Yeah very weird to have double wishbone setup on a Peugeot. I thought double wishbones only made an appearance on cars like the Honda NSX and Audi R8 etc :P

    Hi great video, explained really well.
    I have some knocking from my 407 ( front offside I think) but when I have checked the play I seem to have a lot of play side to side but not top and bottom. Does this point more towards track rod ends?? Anti roll bars seem OK also bottom ball joint looks fairly new..
    Thanks

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for your comments.. Yes sounds like track rod ends or the inner tie rod joints.

  • @NickMyers1
    @NickMyers1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've done ball joints plenty. German, Korean, Japanese, American...some are welded, bolted, pressed...I've never seen with the stud INTEGRATED into the spindle. Wow. That does look like something the French would do - French Engineer Job Justification? We make zee ball joint dif-r-aunnntt!
    Again, nice work, enjoing these videos! - I see the road salt/brine used in the UK is just as bad on the cars there as it is here.

    • @OneAuto

      Ahh oui Nick, nice French accent their 😂

    • @bigkification
      @bigkification 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because it's not a ball joint... it's a swivel point.... different things entirely.

      +One Auto, hi, good clear video and well explained.. I am doing a drive shaft on the same car nearside and it didn't have a circlip on the old unit and neither has the new one... Do the shafts just simply sit in the transmission and not click in as on other cars I've worked on?? Thanks

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adam Price Thanks for your feedback. Yes you are correct, there is no clip on the end that goes into the transmission.

    • @adamprice9214

      +One Auto, thanks really useful!! I am fixing this car 4 a friend.. was previously a taxi :/ has done 190k he was getting excessive noise and was told by someone it would be okay to carry on driving however:- he destroyed n/s driveshaft and top engine mount by cam belt (the bottom one of the two) yesterday I changed ds and mount, everything super tight just like your one!! Broke several of my tools :(, anyway on further inspection I realised the bush in the bottom of the suspension leg that connects to lower wishbone is totally gone... I'm guessing there pressed out/in and it's not a DIY job??? Also there is extreme pressure on the mount I replaced so I have had to jack engine to release so I don't damage the new one, as the whole engine is being forced over towards the offside.. I have noticed the dog bone type torsion engine mount that sits above the 1 I have replaced is also damaged.. What can possibly be causing all these problems?? Is it possible another mount has gone?

    • @OneAuto
      @OneAuto  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow.. difficult to comment without seeing it. Sounds like its been abused in a previous life! The bush that connects to wishbone you talk of is replaceable but you would need to press it out with a bush extractor tool. Replace all defective engine & gearbox mountings. 190K as a taxi stop/start has put excessive strain on them by the sounds of it. HTH

    Didn't have a clue how to dismantle the 407 - forgot about the drive shaft, forgot about the disk - I gave up after that.

    • @iwasabombardier
      @iwasabombardier 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      He would not have had to resort to removing the disk or the caliper if the lower bearing inner race had not seized itself to the stupid French stud idea, where normally you would have a lower balljoint. If you look at this system closely, it is more prone to be attacked by road salts and water, where-as the balljoint is better sealed against water ingress. And Rob explained that to someone else. It was an awkward job well carried out. The car was a 2004 Peugeot 407. And had 12 years for that bearing to break down.
