Everything about sonic 2 is iconic to sonic fans and even people who grew up knowing about sonic: the ost, the levels, the frustrating moments, the final boss, the 7 chaos emeralds, the ending. The fact that this was completed in under a year makes this one of the biggest success stories in gaming and makes this game one of the best games to release at all.
I'm blown away with how artfully you were able to navigate Tails through the Special Stages! I always had to play 2Player with my brother if we wanted to get through all the bonus stages I think, never quite got the hang of it.

I used to fall asleep to these soundtracks when I was a kid. It was the ONLY thing that would help me sleep. That and Kirby Superstar. The nostalgia is real holy moley.
It always gets me how “Metropolis” Zone is more of a factory than a city. Also, the Super Sonic mechanic is way OP. It should have a time limit and then a cooldown period before you can use it again.
Also to notice. This game is the worst when you face the last 2 bosses. Tails disappears from you, you have 0 rings, You can't use Super Sonic and if you play this for the first time you'll probably game over a lot at this point of the game.
Alright, who else would tear up when you'd beat the game and the little black and white pics popped up and there's the sweet little montage of Tails coming to get Sonic in the plane and all the other little creatures are set free???? I did. I was 14 years old. In the basement with family. Beat the game and fucking started crying because I was so happy and the music was so sweet. OMG.
23:14 TIP FOR THE BOSS BATTLE IN CHEMICAL PLANT ACT 2 : if you crouch while in the fight when he uses the chemical jug to splash you. you wont take damage. instead the water's hitbox is destroyed and becomes an IFRAM box (this therefor makes you invincible until you uncrouch and go to attack robotnik again) this trick can be used on any of the bosses with drop boxes. (hitboxes that drop onto the character) this glitch was patched in sonic mania sadly. but its still fun to use in sonic 2 since they cant seem to figure out why it does that.
It doesn’t completely destroy the experience, but it wasn’t what I came to see. I don’t want to watch how “good” you are, I want to relive the full experience of the game.
Hands down... One of the best Sonic games of all times. I remember spending hours with this one. My favorite tune was and still is the Chemical Plant. Feelin' all nostalgic now. Thanks for uploading this walkthrough, fella.
Í really dislike when playthroughs do that. It takes away from watching how the stage could be completed as intended amd drowns out the funky stage music. It's basically a speedrun.

I would always get to that level with the plane and then hear my mom call and tell me it was time for bed and wouldn't allow me to finish. Sucks back then not being able to save the game.
If you still have a genesis or play on phone then for me the best character to go with is knuckles his glide is op(if you know how to use it/play it right) and when you get to chemical plant it will be easy to get out of the water zones Also before you comment something let me tell you this tails is good also but he gets tired and on later zones it won’t just be fly all the way up and keep going it’s going to be a little more complicated than that he gets tired thus making escaping water and aviation a challenge Sonic is fast but..he can’t swim.This makes it to where water is hard to escape so you gotta be quick or else you drown on land sonic is a god just don’t get to much momentum to where you’re flying into enemies and other things Sonic and tails is key to success you see how he was using tails to his advantage in the special stage and also you can’t forget that tails can carry sonic in water and in the air so movement is decent it’s just like before though he gets tired this time it’s waaaayyy faster so it’s also complicated at the same time if you wanna get it down to your best ability is to keep replaying with sonic and tails to where it gets clutch This was my honest opinion about sonic 2 characters I also hope nobody complains about me ranking them I really didn’t I just gave them a random order
Wing fortress zone is a literal nightmare for me. I cant tell what's a thing you can land on and what's an endless pit. And dont even get me started on of weird disappearing platform things
You have to complete the special zones and collect the emeralds and then you have to get 50 rings to transform but make sure you keep collecting rings bc if he goes below 50 u will go back to regular sonic
I never made it past the Metropolis Zone as a kid. Having watched this, I'm totally confident I will never beat this game. Got dam. Won't stop me from picking it back up and introducing my daughter to the joys and disappointment of playing as Tails.
Try with an emulator on a pc, with an ISO you can get on internet archive legally, using and abusing of saved states. You press some buttons for saving a state after some hard obstacle, then proceed and if you fail at the next obstacle, just press other button to load saved state right before the new obstacle, and so on and so forth. This way you can advance so much faster and easier. The old school platform games become much more playable on this way.

Came to appreciate the excellent level design and soundtrack, so it's a shame to see you super sonic through the whole thing, but I admire the skills!

Sonic 2 and 3 were the Sonics I enjoyed the most as a kid. I know I can get a emulators but I'd prefer getting a Sega Ages version of this on the switch so I can play with a TV/controller. :)

I would always get to that level with the plane and then hear my mom call and tell me it was time for bed and wouldn't allow me to finish. Sucks back then not being able to save the game.

The nostalgia is real. That said, Sonic 3 had a LOT more panache than this one. Still, both were KILLER games.
My favourite is marble zone it has chill and happy music :)
If you still have a genesis or play on phone then for me the best character to go with is knuckles his glide is op(if you know how to use it/play it right) and when you get to chemical plant it will be easy to get out of the water zones
Also before you comment something let me tell you this tails is good also but he gets tired and on later zones it won’t just be fly all the way up and keep going it’s going to be a little more complicated than that he gets tired thus making escaping water and aviation a challenge
Sonic is fast but..he can’t swim.This makes it to where water is hard to escape so you gotta be quick or else you drown on land sonic is a god just don’t get to much momentum to where you’re flying into enemies and other things
Sonic and tails is key to success you see how he was using tails to his advantage in the special stage and also you can’t forget that tails can carry sonic in water and in the air so movement is decent it’s just like before though he gets tired this time it’s waaaayyy faster so it’s also complicated at the same time if you wanna get it down to your best ability is to keep replaying with sonic and tails to where it gets clutch
This was my honest opinion about sonic 2 characters I also hope nobody complains about me ranking them I really didn’t I just gave them a random order

Wing fortress zone is a literal nightmare for me. I cant tell what's a thing you can land on and what's an endless pit. And dont even get me started on of weird disappearing platform things

Complete all of the special stages to get the chaos emeralds...we never have either lol
You have to complete the special zones and collect the emeralds and then you have to get 50 rings to transform but make sure you keep collecting rings bc if he goes below 50 u will go back to regular sonic
Many things in sonic where inspired in Dragon Ball, but it stills being something very original and wonderful.

I never made it past the Metropolis Zone as a kid. Having watched this, I'm totally confident I will never beat this game. Got dam. Won't stop me from picking it back up and introducing my daughter to the joys and disappointment of playing as Tails.
Try with an emulator on a pc, with an ISO you can get on internet archive legally, using and abusing of saved states. You press some buttons for saving a state after some hard obstacle, then proceed and if you fail at the next obstacle, just press other button to load saved state right before the new obstacle, and so on and so forth. This way you can advance so much faster and easier. The old school platform games become much more playable on this way.
