Willie Barton it was the height until sonic mania raised the bar and introduced ray and mighty. I love all the old sonic 2D games , (sonic 1, 2 and 3, sonic and knuck, sonic cd) but imo sonic mania is the quintessential sonic game. The best 2D one ever made. Hope we get mania 2 or something like it

This was a fun game to play, I'm not sure which I liked more: the graphics, or the music. I never knew there were so many opportunities to collect a Chaos Emeralds so early in the game. I was able to beat the game, but never without collecting a single Chaos Emerald.

It's amazing how easy the Emerald games are once you memorize the patterns. You also know @49:15 also pissed a lot of people off back in the day. Many couldn't figure out using up and down to move the pillar. Damn that ending music @1:08:04 brings back good memories.
This was unfortunately me on 49:15, was at the point of speed running to here only to get stuck all the time. Watching this video now made me immediately realize how to do it before coming to the comment section, just goes to show how gaming has changed with ease of access to guides and seeing play throughs that maybe 7 year old me wouldn't have been so sad that he never finished the game.
LOL silly kids. I played it on the original Sega Genesis first edition 2 days after the game came out. It's great I have it on my PS3, but it's not the same without playing it with the original sega controllers.

Just perfect, they really managed to make this game challenging and relaxing at the same time. I remember when the first one came out and we were all blow away by the beautiful graphics, music, sounds and design.

I’m 37 years old and I still played my video game 🎮 collection at my age and still young enough to do this and I still remember Sonic trilogy and the rest of the Sega games I have on Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis and it’s like Sega Genesis I used to have and now I have 3 consoles: N64, PS2, and Xbox 360 and amazing 🤩 times I have with my life.👍🤩😊
I also completed the blue spheres level hidden in secret 🤐 areas of the game and I got 7 chaos emeralds to become Super Sonic and completed the bonus stages and it’s like a regular ball machine I seen in stores 🏬 yeah ago as a kid and as a teenager I still remember this stuff and now I’m an adult 👨 and that’s good times I have with my life.

The best Sonic game of all time, hands down! This is my most favorite videogame of all time! I've played it at least 15 times now, I lost count. Its too bad they cut out the Big Arm boss from the combined version, but I'm happy its back in origins!
It's the biggest obstacle in the game, really. No explanation and no previous parts of the level that force you to learn the mechanic. You have to figure out trial and error style. For people like me, trials and errors later, figuring out what to do would come years later.
I LOVED this game but sadly I never got past the carnival level where you have to get past the big bouncing column. Couldn’t figure out how to make it move up and down :(
Michael Jackson did a lot of the songs in the game. You will not find proof unless you can go back to magazines or journalism. There's a good video explaining all this, but in the nutshell: SEGA buried all references to his involvement due to his.. um.. allegations.

For me it was Sonic 2's special stages. Those are much more brutal than this game's.
