    To me it seems dangerous to place the needle first. I feel like its safer to put the needle on and inject, pull back and push the plunger. If your horse isn't this quiet or is nervous, I wouldn't separate the needle from the injection.

      Cathe Brooks it’s better to remove the needle and poke. With the syringe it tends to bounce off and not go in more precisely I recommend that for bigger injections like pennelcin but with vaccines I would go up on the skin and inject it because it’s a smaller amound

    Nice job. I love your technique. What a beautifully broke, well behaved and quiet horse. Standing there not tied off. Which, by the way, is good in case the horse does panic. Who trained her? Where is your stable?

      Thank you for your kind comment. Babe is 23 this year, been around the block a time or 2. She has had one other owner, who i was fortunate enough to learn from. The best part is our trusting relationship.

    Make sure no blood on the needle?

      West Nile is an intramuscular injection. Pull back on the syringe to make sure no blood comes back, if it does, you are in the wrong place for the injection. Thank you for watching!

    Thank you this was very helpful question I have a draft and a mini yet the dose is the same any thoughts on that makes me nervous shouldn’t the draft have more ?

    • @babeme2268

      My understanding is, you give a full dose regardless of weight. However, I have no experience with Mini's nor am I a vet. I do give my Draft the full dose for sure!

      I know this is late, but I am a vet tech: vaccines are designed to have a minimum dosage per species to trigger an immune response. The "dose" is the same for any animal within that species, because at their core they require the same dose to trigger that immune response. For example, an 8 pound chihuahua receives the same vaccine as a 160 pound great dane because they share the same genetic makeup for that vaccine that requires an immune response. Hope this clarifies for you!

    This vaccine requires a booster shot in 3 to 4 weeks, is that correct?

    • @babeme2268
      @babeme2268  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, It involves an initial administration of two doses at an interval of three to six weeks, followed by an annual or semi-annual booster.
