Awesome job, miss. And you're right, shortcuts are never they answer. The only time for sedation is for dentist work and freeze branding a horse. Nothing else. I've seen videos of equine dentists sedating horses and I'm cool with that. It's like how people is given laughing gas. Then the sedation wears out afterwards. And I hate twitches. I don't care who uses them, I say no. This method here is better. For those who don't agree with her, y'all have something wrong with you. This is a great example of patience and encouragement around any equine that is nervous or fearful. You can also distract a horse by doing a bump technique by bumping - not hard - on their neck and stick the needle in. There's so many ways to teach a horse to accept needles. You can use food, have someone pet your horse, have an equine friend with them for comfort. It can literally be anything as long as you're not taking shortcuts. This goes for needle phobic horses because just like some people who have needle fears, it's the same thing for our equine friends. 😁❤️
Very humane way to teach her, rather than just sedating and forcing. I just got a new mare so we're about to find out if she's needle shy. If she is, I'll definitely be using this technique!
Really well done demo, explanation and patience with your horse. Advance, retreat and reward so much better then "forcing" the horse. Just a thoughtful way to help the horse gain confidence and trust.
Thank you! Very helpful Just need to include drawing back the syringe making sure no blood enters the syringe before continuing to inject. If it does, you need to try a different spot to inject.
I train dogs, horses, and hawks and your technique are beautiful. I especially like your concepts of small increasing increments of "threat' and your use of the vital and properly time release of pressure (shades of Clinton Anderson) . Good job young lady! Where is your stable located?
This goes to show Obviously not only humans, but animals also don’t like needles. Obviously humans both adults and childrenwince and maybe cry at the jab of a needle and animals whimper at the jab of a needle. Not much difference there. Both species have that fear and maybe in some cases phobia
This was so helpful. One of our horses is terrified of needles. We will definitely be trying this! Thank you.

Never knew a horse would be needle phobic; good job on desensitizing her.

Thanks! Sometimes it can be a slower process, but better in the end!

Great job. Pressure and release is the way to go. The bird sounds in the background were pretty. What state do you guys live in?
We are in the mountains of North Carolina! How about you?
Awesome! We are in Kokomo Indiana, which is north of Indianapolis.
