I doubt this really effects sales. I mean, if you're going to invest 1.6k in a wheel you'd look for the best one and if it REALLY bothers you, you can always get a sticker or even design a personalized one to cover the McLaren logo. But that's just my thoughts.
I’m Italian. I don’t really understand why McLaren logo should be a problem. You buy a real wheel based on McLaren Artura GT4. It’s a partnership, it’s like this.
I have the pro and i can tell you now, best wheel I've ever owned. The price is quite steep, but it's modelled similarly to the actual Artura GT4 wheel (probably where most of the money goes) and is made very, very well. No creeks, weird movement or stress signals. Fantastic.
As someone who races exclusively in VR, I'm torn between not being able to consider a wheel with a screen and then being happy that I won't feel upgrade envy and get eyes bigger than my budget! I'd love for someone to design wheels for VR, with ergonomics and design that cater to VR users who can't look at the wheel to find their way around. Probably not viable economically.
I own a GSI FPE, learned that it's not really worth it in the long run. I purchased the GT Neo, and I have a DDU (3d printed with vocore screen) that's a better, and less expensive purchase.
I race solely in VR and have a separate DDU so I can drink coffee and know things when I take of my VR headset. I think Cube Controls are the only ones who sort of take VR in account when designing new wheels. Separate dash saves a lot of money, you can buy the cheaper wheel versions with same quality but no dash. I like the look of the Cube Controls F-core, anyone here already tested that one in VR?
The McLaren logo is ok to me. Besides, you see it as well in professional sports where individuals will use equipment from the competitors of their sponsor brands because it is what works best for them. Granted it doesn't happen often but some examples I can think of are when cyclists use a non sponsored saddle on their bike or use non sponsored shoes. In cases like these, you typically see the logo scratched off or taped over.
I love my Ultimate, Martin did an amazing Job, also constantinos the lovely dashboard integration is a charm and Daniel Newman profile for sure ..... Nice video Will.. 👍
Thanks for such a detailed review, Will. As someone who is looking at upgrading to a different wheel and pedal set-up, reviews like this are so helpful 👍🏽👍🏽
Gotta say, at that price point (+1500USD), I much rather have a GSI Hyper P1 (screen) or a Hyper SL (same wheel though without the screen and a slightly different RPM + Telemetry LED layout). You get more rotary switches, more thumb encoders, and an extra 4 way switch (clickable and twistable).
As im watching this on my steam deck these wheels with larger and larger screens remind me of the deck itself. I wonder if some madman is gonna stick a qr on it and go racing
Appreciate the review. I've had the Grid RSR wheel for half a year now and the branding has never bothered me when driving an AMG or something, but I can see how it can be a turn off for some people.
@@georgma87 I wanted the prettiest wheel on the market and thought about it for 3 months before finding a "barely used" one for an ok price. All other replicas are missing "something" for my taste, but the Grid has it all in terms of looks. It has some shortcomings in terms of the usual utility (no funkies) and other wheels have more hardware adjustability (e.g. rotary pulse width), but it makes me more likely to jump on the rig every time I pass by and look at it. So overall yes, I'm happy.

So i wish there was a replica for half the price ($500 or smth) that looks exactly the same (without the logo 😃). But close in quality. That’s a debate I’ve been going through screen or not too screen. My friends who have displays aren’t racing and looking at the display much at all. Maybe pit stop, yellow on ovals. I’m 20” from middle screen and 18 to the back of the wheel so really to close for me
I have SOELPEC and Ascher Ultimate, personally I prefer Ascher for few reason like adjustable shifter arm position, shifter paddle quality, button key caps, etc. Both has pros/cons, you cannot go wrong with one or other. For me, not able to adjust shifter paddle location in SOELPEC is a deal breaker for me as the default location did not work for me.
The issue I have with the Soelpec wheel as well as other so called high end wheels nowadays is that they have plain old rotary encoders where they should be multiposition switches. I don't know why at that price they're cutting costs, but I won't touch their wheels for that reason.
@@rajeshkannan_s interesting. I had the same issue with Tue paddles but I moved them from the rear side to the front side as I have short fingers. Fixed the issue for me quite easily
Hi Guys as always a very nice review !! I have an Artura Ultimate my self paired with an Asetek La Prima Wheelbase with the QR . I love the wheel its feels just perfect. I am in contact with Ascher ofcourse about this problem but I was wondering if you guys have had the same problem?!! Currently I can only use the wheel with the coiled cable wich is kind of annoying at this price point...
I had the Ultimate and what really kills the wheel for me is the low quality Vocore screens that they put on such an expensive wheel. I'm not calling out Ascher on it as most wheels in this price range uses the same Vocore screen but the Ascher is marketed as using the same components and quality as the real steering wheel on the actual McLaren Artura car. Granted, the real steering wheel in the car doesn't have a screen on it, but if it did, I'm quite sure it won't be using a ~$50 Vocore screen. I'm aware that real automotive grade screens have much higher price tags and it will certainly more than double the cost of the steering wheels using them... I don't know, I just wished the screen quality was a bit better. The issues I had with mine was the LCD glow with off axis viewing of the screen. It was quite noticeable while turning the wheel during a race. Another bigger issue for me was the unit I received had the actual graphics of the screen off-centered. It was quite noticeable when using dashes with a line border around it such as the Lovely Dashboard. Apparently, this is the result of loose tolerances of the Vocores and are quite common with wheels such as GSI. This is why I returned mine. I still do really like the functionality of the wheel so I exchanged it for the Pro USB instead.
Any issues with the grips driving gloveless? I saw a Reddit poster who said the seam on his grips were so bad that they rubbed a callous on his thumb. Forced him to drive with gloves.
