In this episode, Sara teaches us how to make a Baby Bargello quilt using fat quarters. This quilt starts with cutting your fat quarters into strips. She will explain why when piecing your strips together, it’s imperative that you pay close attention to your top strip. To help things line up, Sara will explain why it’s so important to press your strips in the same direction. We’ll also discuss creative ways to choose your binding fabric.

I just came across this video from 5 years ago. I was not able to use the link in the description box to access the pattern for this quilt. Actually I was not able to use any of the links. I only saw a message “DYNAMIC LINK NOT FOUND” with no links popping up. I have not made a Bargello quilt yet, but it is on my list of “want to make” and I like this method better than some of the others I have seen. It seems less confusing and more simple as one to try first maybe. Thanks Sara for sharing this. Do you have other videos? I would definitely love to see more of you!😅

@@maureencaset8427 Right, that’s why I wanted the pattern. She mentions a third one, but only shows making two. I just watched it again and I don’t think I can make it without additional directions. And the photo of the completed quilt happens so fast that if you blink you will miss it. oh well. There are lots of patterns out there, may one of them would be ok. I just thought this one had a lot of potential and seemed to make sense. Now I’m not so sure.

    Bought the pattern. There only 2 @ 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 strips. 6 @ 2 1/2 and 4 @ 3 1/2.
I continued to cut all the strips as done in this video......I ended up with matching ends of the 5 1/2 piece. Can't see on this quilt if it is the same.
The picture on the pattern is way different....and does not give clear cutting instructions. Disappointed.

I don't have the pattern, and won't pay money for something that is described as "vague" and "poorly written" - but I studied the pattern picture, because I think it's a lovely look for a baby quilt, and have read the below comments. What I found that helped: 1. Took what she says in the video with a grain of salt - a loose guide, if you will. 2. Researched "staggered seam" bargello quilts 3. Noticed that not all seams on this quilt are staggered 4. Those that are, are not staggered traditionally/consistently (with the seams of the even numbered and odd numbered rows matching) 5. What really give this quilt its look are the smaller "stripe" strip - working in row pairs, moving the 2nd row of the pair to the opposite end - and then flipping that 2nd row of the pair upside down. ~ The Mrs.

Aileen (lovely name, by the way - my Grandmother’s name!): This is on The Quilting Company, which charges for EVERYTHING and rarely delivers what you think you are buying. My guess is that she couldn’t give enough information so that people could make the quilt without buying the pattern because of the company. I, too, bought the pattern (though I prefer to buy from anywhere except this place) and suspected there would be vague directions, etc., but I wanted to know how many fat quarters to purchase. HINT: you need nine, but as usual they never come out and say that.

I'm confused. At the beginning, before she starts cutting, she says you need to cut 4 different sizes if strips -5.5", 4.5", 3.5", and 2.5".
But when she actually cuts the strips, she cuts only 4 different sizes of strips, cutting two strips at 2.5" and none at 5.5".

    • @donnaferguson4134

She begins by cutting then sewing together one 2.5" strip and eight 5.5" strips, then makes the tube. From the tube she then cuts one 4.5", one 3.5" and two 2.5" strips. Hope this helps

@@donnaferguson4134 But how long are those 5.5" inch strips (and 2.5" strip)? I guess I just add up the number of strips she cuts them down to: 2.5 + 2.5 + 3.5 + 4.5? And I see there's 9 different fabrics. What size quilt does this end up making? That's another thing I'm trying to figure out. Thanks! I hope you see this (8 months later).

Hi, I don't want to sound negative, just like to point out a few things...First of all, you mentioned cutting out different sizes - incl. 5 1/2" strips, but you didn't cut that size at all. Next, you showed how to match seams for easier, more accurate sewing. However, you didn't mention (or show) how to 'NEST' seams. Very important step if you want seams to match up properly. Oh, isn't it wonderful to have a long-armer do some lovely quilting to finish it off for you...Happy binding!
