  • Welcome back to Boilerhouse Garage and to another servicing video. Today we have a 2007 Vauxhall Combo with a 1.3 turbo diesel Fiat Multijet engine, which is also used in this arrangement in the Vauxhall/Opel Corsa diesel, and the Fiat Panda, Doblo and others...
    This video covers how do change the oil and filter, the air filter and (a lazy way) to do the fuel filter. We also have a quick poke around underneath and take it for a spin, where I take the opportunity to bore you with details about my previous Astra GTE kitted 1988 Bedford Astra van and my wanting to find an old BT or Royal Mail Morris Ital 440 to put back in service as my mobile workshop.
    Please SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already. I'm really hoping to reach the 500 subs milestone by the end of the summer.
    Thanks for watching!

    I'm shortly carrying out a oil and filter change on my Combo van that has a mileage of 138,000 and it's still going strong. (My Fishing wagon now I have retired) This video is just what I needed.

      Excellent! I'm glad it can help. Is yours a 1.3 as the 1.7 is a completely different engine?
      Did you have any issues getting a good insurance quote? I have in the past when using a van for personal/hobby use, as I think a lot of them assume it will be commercial and business use.

      I insured mine for £227 a year which I was shocked. Ex royal mail 1.3 cdti. I was thinking of scrapping it recently as the gears went all weird where I could get into 2nd or 4th gears at all. But still been driving it couple times a weekend as I work away all week as a HGV driver and just coped with 1,3 and 5. Then all of a sudden, I gone to change down into second forgotting it was not working. It actually got into second with a grind which it never did before and it engaged the gear when I released the clutch and it got 4th without grinding. But while in 2nd or 4th gear, the gear stick didnt feel like it had slotted all the way into gear. This happened for a few miles and then the morning after, it appears to be working fine with no grinding and slots all the way in.
      I insured mine as a day van with Lexham. I only had the van since September. Before that, I had an 04 plate Almera which was and still is a great car. My father owns the Almera now with the 1.5 petrol. I was paying £98 a month to insure the Almera. But as I only mainly drive to work on a Sunday or a Monday and home on a Thursday or a Friday. I couldnt justify the expensive insurance. I was deemed by Hastings that I am at a higher risk due to my job as a HGV driver which is odd as I could possibly only drive my own vehicle twice a week. I am also a named driver on my wifes car too and when I go anywhere during my time off, I go in the wifes car as its much nicer being a 72 plate Seat Arona FR auto.
      I enjoyed this video, I have decided to keep the old girl now especially as I realised that the last time I put diesel in my van was in September when I filled the tank and its on just over a 1/4 now. It is limited to 70mph and sometimes when building up speed to join a motorway in 3rd or maybe 4th. It seems to have a miss and then reduces in power. I still reach 70 but a slight hill it slows down to about 60. I am going to have a look at my air filter and MAF sensor later today as I already have the replacement parts with me at home.

      @@stevecampbell7589 Sorry for late reply. TH-cam not notifying me again.
      That's great! It's worth keeping them going for as long as possible, but obviously having some kind of breakdown service just incase. Gearboxes can be weird. It might be due a fluid change in case it's all gummed up and effecting the synchro. If your MAF is faulty, you'd be using a lot more fuel than expected and it usually throws an EML, but definitely check the air filter is clean. Thanks for the comment.

    What did everyone else do about removing the oil filter from the oil housing? i ended up just brute forcing it and breaking all but one of the clips holding the old one in place .... the new one slotted in fine but didnt "latch" as well as its clips were a tiny *tiny* bit skinnier.
    Anyway, everyone just brute force it out? or is there actually a proper way to remove the old oil filter form the housing?

    • @boilerhousegarage
      @boilerhousegarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think someone must have not clipped your original one in properly and as the housing is tightened down, made the clips misshape or something. The one on this van just popped out easy as you'd expect and the new one clipped in nicely too.
      As long as the filter element is in place as you refit, once you've tightened down the housing, it will hold the filter in the right position.

    • @boilerhousegarage
      @boilerhousegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never mind that, where's this ganja at? 😄 I'd be first looking for water ingress which you can find in the fuel filter housing (water will go to the bottom with diesel sat on top) so you'll be looking in that area anyway to see if something is clogging the filter or any part of the system. Do you run the tank low much, or notice it happen less if on a full tank or more if you're coming off a roundabout? It could be a loss of fuel pressure if the pump is on its way out, but should really outlive the van unless its done exceptional mileage. A couple of tanks of Shell V-Power diesel and an additive called dipetane wouldn't go amiss if perhaps the fuel system is clogged somewhere else.

    • @cannabisfarmoutdooruk4729
      @cannabisfarmoutdooruk4729 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@boilerhousegarage I was under quarter tank when it was happening and just filled up and it’s not happening now so you think pump or water in filter? Thanks mate

    • @boilerhousegarage
      @boilerhousegarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cannabisfarmoutdooruk4729 It won't be the filter/housing in that case. It could be your pump, or at least it could get damaged if you run the tank too low. Chances are your fuel tank is contaminated with water, sludge or I've even seen petrol (where someone has mis-fuelled in the past) as it will sit on the bottom of a diesel tank. All diesels and fuel injection tanks are pressurised or use a swirl pot, so keeping the tank as full as possible will mean you're effectively diluting the contaminant, so try not to let it fall below a 1/3 tank. You can get it drained and cleaned out, but as it's a messy job and the fuel will be classed as hazardous waste, it won't be cheap. There's no fuel drain on these tanks and you can't syphon it (I've attempted both) so won't be a home job unfortunately. As long as you keep the tank topped up full, you can still use it; it's just annoying to keep having to fill up every 200 miles or so.
