  • Brian Morris gives us a review of a 2003 model Vauxhall Combo, finding out if it makes for a good commercial vehicle. Brian takes the car for a road test to see how it performs and handles, as well as seeing how practical it is. The Combo comes with a 1.7 litre engine, which produces 75bhp, and has a maximum payload of just under 600kg.

    I bought one new In 2002. I've still got it and had no problems with it in all that time.
    170,000 trouble free miles and still going very well indeed. ill never sell it.
    buy a well looked after one and you've got a friend for life.

      How many miles do you reckon you could get out of it if well looked after?

      Thanks a lot for comment.
      I bought mine in Dec. 2020 (was made in 2007).
      I want to keep this car forever, too.
      Cheap car, cheap anual fees, cheap spare parts,
      much Diesel mileage.
      It looks like my cheapest car.
      Price: 400 Euros = 360 british pounds.
      Greetings from Germany

      @@Salafiilm Mine was the 1.7 diesel made by Isuzu which Vauxhall fitted to their combi vans. I did actually sell my old van after nearly 20 years and regreted it to this day. I still see it zooming around town. One day I will try to catch it to ask the current owner to sell it back to me! What a great little van, must have over 200+K on it by now.

      @@fx02zbn thank you so much for replying back, honestly appreciate it a lot, I'm going to buy one to hopefully start up my own mobile detailing car wash business. Just need something reliable and cheap to start off with.

    I had a 2003 vauxhall combo and it was the worst vehicle I've ever had. Unreliable useless and would never start... I stay away from vauxhalls altogether now.

    Sorry to be a nerd which i ain't but that model is not a common rail version the cdti version would be common rail at 100bhp this version is the dti at 75bhp and actually probably the more reliable engine/fuel system

    Good van the DTI, sadly this particular one has only recently been taken off the road, as the mot ran out in January 2018.

    Why wasn’t the Combo Tour passenger version which was sold overseas badged as an Opel, sold in the UK rebadged as a Vauxhall before the PSA-based Combo Life was introduced in 2018?

      GOrDoN ReMseY that’s the idea of it, it means you keep the handling of a hatchback but the practicality of a van.

      What engine size is yours? The 1.3 or the 1.7?

  • @MyFabian94
    @MyFabian94 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don't know what it is, but I just feel happy whenever I get in mine. It's an ex-fleet model, as basic as it gets, didn't even have a radio when I got it, but windows and 5 seats.
    The 1.3 is the better engine, except the timing chain.
    I love it to bits.

    • @cheesyeurotrance95
      @cheesyeurotrance95 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not the chain that is problematic, the chain tensioners are

    • @MyFabian94
      @MyFabian94 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I lost my first engine to tensioner Failure, the new ones now have roughly 100 000km, thinking about chainging them this winter with the next Oil/Coolant/Fitlers Change.

    • @cheesyeurotrance95
      @cheesyeurotrance95 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MyFabian94 I recently bought a punto 1.3 diesel, so far it doesn't seem to have problems with the chain/tensioners and it's at 135k km's, but I do know that the tensioners can be problematic. Still, it's one of the cheapest common-rail diesels to maintain - no DPF, no dual mass flywheel, no timing belt etc.

    • @pug205mardigras
      @pug205mardigras 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      no the 1.3 is not a better engine it is a fiat engine which makes it bad already as said tensioners go amogst other things the 1.7 is an isuzu engine and if looked after is bulletproof and will go on forever

    the 1.7 di has a common fault which causes a 'miss' under acceleration.. my dad has one of these and i would be very grateful if anyone could tell me if its the pump or something else. tia.
