The trip leading from the Pennsylvania turnpike to the Blue Ridge Parkway and into the Great Smokey Mountain National Park pulling our eighteen foot RV was one of our favorite vacations! We would reference that as a favorite all the way up the time my wife passed away in 2014. Your video is a great reminder of the good time we had both on the Parkway and in the National Park. In the park, we camped right at a brook tumbling over some rocks allowing us to fall asleep to that music and wake up to it again in the mornings. The Parkway and the National Park made a wonderful vacation for both of us!!! THANK YOU FOR THE REMINDER!!!
In an old Studebaker we courted up there, high into NC. Good grief she was true to her raising. a pure mountain girl what a treat, and then married for more than 60 years. I miss her something awful. And pretty, and so smart. She took me high into the Smokies and then claimed me. What a delight. And now I am without her.
Hello from Michigan I am doing the same trip in June 2023 in my 2010 Camaro SS me and mother nature, yours is one of the best BRP videos I've watched so far Thank you!! Tony
Thank you so much!! I'm jealous you'll be doing it with a car and NOT towing 6,000 pounds around! :) It wasn't too bad with the RV, but it definitely didn't make things easier. Have a great time on your trip!
@@WorkinfortheWild Nice to hear back from you 2 I can't wait last year I did Rt.66 from Chicago to Oklahoma City but? Missouri was under water and New Mexico was on fire Ouch........................... it was still agreat trip. bye for now Tony
Nice overview of the BRP and hitting the highlights. At Graveyard Fields, about 1/4 from the little bridge is a 40ft waterfall with a nice area to view it. Also Looking Glass Falls a few miles south of the BRP is a can’t miss spot as well as the Pisgah Inn area. Both would be packed in the fall.
Great information! We will be doing the Blue Ridge Parkway this September but starting on the southern end. Hoping to do several of the hikes you mentioned.
And 2:40 seconds in, you have nailed exactly why we got rid of our adorable 2005 trailer and now why we have a 2018 Winnebago Travato Van. I do miss the little extra room we had in our 18 foot trailer. Even though the van is 21 feet. Now when it says no RV’s I am like…I’m a van and in we go! I like the van, but liked the trailer too.
Haha yes I totally get that! I don't think we could live out of a van...but it would be great to have one for shorter trips for sure! We actually would like a slightly larger trailer for full timing
Take Me Home, Country Roads. Excellent video as always. We for the most part did the same as you all up to the blue ridge parkway. For that reason I can vouch you nailed it. This was my first travels back east. Bar Harbor RV park. Lets see not a bee sting but rather my husband got a tick bite. Yikes!! I tried not to scream but the thing was lodged into his upper thigh. The crowds were crazy. Loved Shenandoah National Park (sky-ridge road). We did head back west to Colorado. Looking forward to your next video. You are now plowing new ground for me. Oh, love the hats.
Oh no! I just got a tick bite while we were on the blue ridge parkway, actually! It was somehow lodged into my back. Not fun! Were you guys at the same campground in Bar Harbor as us?
@@WorkinfortheWild We were. My ears perked up when you mentioned it. Nice laundry. We took the L.L Bean sponsored bus (shuttle). Crowded. We also drove the less crowded Schoodic Peninsula drive. Schoodic Point was spectacular. Side note: made a side trip to the L. L. Bean store. Heck no! Beyond crowded.
I’m traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway in the summer of 2024. Thanx for the idea’s. I saved it, so I can remember to stop at some of these beautiful places. How’s the cell services? Should I bring a map?
Glad to see you’re utilizing Harvest Host. Don’t forget to buy some alpaca socks one day! Our school year home base is in WNC. If you pass through again, I’d camp at Julian Price Lake Campground so that you can be trailer-less to go to The Chalet in Little Switzerland for lunch with an amazing view. You can also spend the day (or more) in Blowing Rock. So much to do in the cute mountain towns in WNC.
Great info! We've had some good luck lately with Harvest Host and occasionally Boondockers Welcome. I was hesitant at first to pay for something without knowing how often we'd use it.
OMG… you guys are near me! Welcome to NC. Hope you guys love the Smokey Mountains and the BR Parkway. We have driven from one end to the other ourselves.
My patience wears thin, waiting to get on the road and travel to these beautiful places you have shown us. I know it takes time to prep and prepare, but I’m making headway!
Wonderful video of this area and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I just put this one on my list to see, not sure we will do it with our trailer though since our height is 11.5 But love the colors and views. Thank you for sharing.
Planning to take a once in a lifetime trip to the East to see the Fall colors. Blue Ridge Parkway is on the list. Thanks for sharing what works and doesn't with a RV. We have a 26 ft RV that hubby struggles with parking. I am thinking it may be better to find a campground along the route and visit local sites. Then move along the route and find another campground and visit local sites. Would this be a logical approach. At past mid 60 years we want to be as stress free as possible. Enjoyed this video very much.
Thanks so much for watching! Yes, I think camping in one place and exploring without towing is probably a less stressful way to do it, and then tow to the next campground. We did see bigger rigs but I personally wouldn’t want to deal with parking anything over 20-22ft when space is so limited.
@@WorkinfortheWild Really close to Pilot Mt. State Park, about 25 min. from the Parkway. If you are ever back this way we have a camper spot with 50 amp, water and sewer that ya'll could use for a few days. We are close to Hanging Rock and Stone Mt. State Parks also. About 30 min. from each
Loved the video. I was just wondering if you could tell me where you were camping at the morning after Mount Mitchell? It looks like you were backed up to a light trying to plan a trip in the fall and looking for overnight parking. Thank you.
This is the first of Your videos I have seen and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have driven thee tire Parkway but never all in one trip. Have also ridden several hundred miles of it bicycling. Great video and will be looking at your other ones also. Would You tell us where You are from (approximately if concerned about safety) please?
That's awesome! So glad you found our little channel. I was very impressed by all the bicyclists we saw on the parkway. I'm originally from Minnesota, but Cole and I most recently lived in Colorado.
I wasn’t sure if you could tow a travel trailer on the blue ridge parkway but I guess you can. Are there campgrounds along the rt? In 2024 me and my wife are traveling to Pensacola Fla in our travel trailer from Connecticut and we’re thinking about taking the BRP on our way there. Anything I should no in advance before we consider taking that Rt?

I’m going to do this drive hopefully by the end of May! Wow. At 10:39, i got chills. Seeing Cole run free down the hill with unparalleled joy in his face; happy tears.
Also, a diet 7Up sighting.
It was the big ol' smile and "we did it" at 33:31 that did it for me!
