about 36 mins in, that building with what you called the aqueduct thru it, I believe that was the spring house, not a privey. They were typically built over little streams would keep the room cool.

Thank you for wearing your mask. Hiking on a light rain day is great. The mud, not so much. The Smokies are wonderful, even with lots of folks visiting. It's a big place with lots of sits, views and experiences. Appreciate you sharing with us.

It's like being in the clouds. Looks like everyone got out of the house during the pandemic and went to the mountains. I'm glad I got the chance to visit the Smokey mountain. Your the best Robert! 😉

Great video Robert! The smoky mountains is one of my favorite NP's. And even though G-burg is crowded somehow it's still fun to walk the streets. And yes I have heard the Cherokee KOA is large and crowded. We stayed up he road from G-burg at the Jellystone which is now Imagination Mountain campground.

Absolutely fantastic video Robert! The scenery in the Smoky Mountains is stunning as always and I loved your tour of Cades Cove, like taking a trip into the past. Each to their own, but I don't think I could handle Gatlinburg, there is just so many people walking around, it's worse than a shopping mall. LOL! Thank you once again for the great video and sharing it early. Stay safe and God Bless!!👍👍😊

Cades Cove is always pretty busy but there are days it’s shut just to walking and bikes. Those days are great. There is also the Roaring Fork Nature trail in Gatlinburg. It also has some old homesites. Throughout the park you will find some structures. We love hiking further in and finding the remnants of old structures and even old plane crashes. The main routes are always busy but quieter entrances to the park, like Greenbrier, are normally not as bad.

Our favorite of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park campgrounds is Smokemont which is just outside of Cherokee, NC. Saw Elk, and a lot of wild Turkeys. Pretty river-side campground that in the fall was not crowded at all. No hookups and you have to run your generator in the day but they do have a water faucet and good restrooms.

I'm late for this since I've been catching up with all your videos. Cades Cove was also the site of the largest search and rescue operation ever conducted in a national park. The missing person was Dennis Martin, a six year old that was last seen at the family's campsite on June 14, 1969. Martin has never been found, and his search was an absolute disaster. It rained three inches the night of his disappearance, and it he probably died of exposure. With the way the search was run it would have been a matter of luck if he was found, and no remains have been found to this day. The only good thing about the search was a total overhaul in the way missing person searches were run. As you might be able to tell from part of my username, I was in search and rescue for 27 years, retiring as my sheriff's department search and rescue coordinator. The lessons of the search for Dennis never left me in every search we did, RIP Dennis. You did not die in vain.

Ah, Sunday morning in the Smoky Mountains with Robert...nice! I was there last year and your video brings it all back...I even remember driving past that Dollar General in Wares Valley :-). I stayed in Townsend, a much more relaxed area than the other gateway towns.
The first time I visited Klingman's Dome was in the morning after a storm had dumped a little snow and it was beautiful! I got to ride my bike around Cade's Cove on one of the days where they close the loop to cars--that was very cool. As far as Pigeon Forge is concerned, it's worth a visit to see the huge displays out front like King Kong and the Titanic, but driving through once was enough for me.
The crowds you encountered are just like the ones I saw in the National Parks on my trip last month...I had to bypass several spots in Yellowstone because there was just no parking. Hopefully things will be less crowded next year (fingers crossed). See ya down the road!

Love southern Appalachia! The NC side of the Smokies is a lot less of a tourist trap if you're looking to avoid the massive crowds of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. It's still very tourist friendly but the crowds and traffic are much more manageable. It's nice!

Look Rock Tower off the Foothills Parkway is a concrete tower like Clingmans dome. Beautiful views and very few people. All the Foothills Parkways have incredible views with much less crowds. The Tubers were in an area called the Townsend Wye. The river is Little River. Laurel Creek is the creek along Laurel Creek rd. to Cades Cove then enters Little River at the Townsend Wye. Great Video of our Mountains, The Great Smoky Mountains.

The area you are in, Gatlinburg, Smokey Mountains, Cherokee, is very popular with locals as well as tourists. The stone underpasses you drive under is the Blue Ridge Parkway. Another big tourist attraction, with lots of history & points of interest along the way. It's 45 mph. Campgrounds along the way here & there. The beauty of fall throughout the Blue Ridge Parkway. Grandfather Mountain's carpet of gold was awesome, located in Boone, N.C..

    • @TravelingRobert

Robert, enjoyed your video on Cades Cove. It's our favorite place to go when we're in the Smokies. If you go back, there's a primitive road that runs from the Missionary Baptist Church up over Rich Mountain to Townsend. We usually take it when we're in the Cove. Your truck would make it fine. Also, there's several excellent campgrounds there in Townsend.

Absolutely loved this video! You were in my stomping grounds. We've been camping the Great Smoky Mountains for twenty years. I'm glad you finally were able to experience Cades Cove. It's a cool place but I can see how it can be a little underwhelming when you've been to so many great places as you have. Little known fact, the CBS television series "Christy" was filmed in and around Cades Cove & Townsend.
BTW, hearing Desert Rain and the pitter patter of rain as you walked around Cades Cove gave me chills.

Indeed! I'm really satisfied I bought a small class B RV instead of something bigger. Yes, it's cramped and doesn't have all the amenities found in bigger units I considered, but I can drive it to virtually any place accessible to a regular car. And it's big enough for me and my dog.

I did have to laugh at your "primitive" campground. You should try camping near us in Northern Idaho. It's gorgeous out here in the Northern Rocky Mountains. Here is our version of primitive: no amenities (except a fire pit), an outhouse (if you are lucky), no one for miles, no civilization for miles, no camp host, and we have Grizzly bears! You have to take EVERYTHING with you-just in case-which is why an RV comes in handy. Anyway, I couldn't resist kidding you about the "primitive!" We do seriously love your content, and your production! You are probably one of the best ones out there.

Hello Traveling Robert😊😊🎸🎸! Are there Smoky Mountain Pelicans? Lol! I remember the last time I was at Clingmans Dome as it was very foggy that morning but we just hung out for a while until the sun started brake up the clouds, and what a view! No Pelicans though😊! I have never been to the Cades Cove section of the park so it was nice to follow along with you through this beautiful area. Gatlinburg is a cool kind of tourist trap, but I really enjoyed my time there. Those burgers looked really good, and that delicious pasta...so good! I always follow your cooking recipes. This was a great video and I'm looking forward to the next video as we head out through Nashville and onto the Cairo area where the Ohio River meets the Mississippi River and on to Missouri.
