  • Fixing a subwoofer with rattling sound whenever there is explosion, rumble, thunder, or any low frequency sound -- this video is a recorded diagnosis and repair I did on my subwoofer. The rattle definitely ruins my home theater experience. If you have the same issue then this how-to video is for you.

That piece is called the spider. And yes it is supposed to be secured/glued down all the way around. Good eye and good job fixing it

When I push on my spider. It has a grainy-ish feel and less give. That’s what I believe is making mine rattle, non of the others are like that. How do I fix this?

Thank you man I've had this 12 for years and as with any budget basshead it's had its share of wear and tear.
I just never thought it'd be that easy to find the rattle or even thought it was something repairable!
PS your test at the end made my house sound like the theatres hahaha

thank you! i think I finally found the source of the rattle on my sub. I'll have to wait til I get home but this has to be it. same noise, already inspected foam, etc. Never thought a spider would just be loose like that.

Thanks man. You saved me hundreds of dollars on my Velodyne Spl-1000 ultra. I was going nuts these last few days wondering what that rattle noise was and then you lead me to this issue. Will try and fix this myself. Cheers bro

Glad I could help. I videoed it for my own reference if it happened again. If it did not work I would have not posted the video. Ha ha. It turned out for the better. The glue I used still holds strong. I watched lots of action movies.

Thank you so much, I watched several other videos however yours zeroed in on my problem and I fixed it. The sub had a tiny gasket which stretched over the years so I made one from some packing styrofoam and now it sounds great. I didn't have to reglue the spider so it made sense that all I needed to replace was the gasket. Thanks for the great advice. I'm going to give the woofer to my son now.

Hi there. Thanks for posting! I just purchased this exact sub in great condition. I hope you can help shed some light on an issue I have: At frequencies above 25-27 it plays perfectly fine, however below that it basically just "rumbles/rattles" seems like it can't "withstand" the frequencies, and just "losses" it... any thoughts? :-)

Thank you so much. Thanks to your video, I dared to open up my subwoofer. I was pleasantly surprised to find as the culprit a little toy action figure stuck in the speaker which one of our grandchildren must have put in the port in the front! LOL Problem solved!

My 20 year old REL Q200e is making the same rattle at certain frequency whether loud or quieter.
Hopefully it is the same fix.
I have checked and the cabinet seems no leaks, cone has no tears and no scratchy noise on pushing the cone (plus never had any burning smell) so I hope it is not blown.

I have a sub in my car and I'm curious if it's the spider too. My left sub seems to be fine when playing music however the right moves about and seems to warp instead of move up and down when vibrating.
The left when off seems to flex all directions moreso that the right. But sounds better than the other which is weird.
Both speakers have an outer seam tear on the rubber.
    Tips or tricks?

I'm having a similar problem. It happens with bass drums and sounds with really low attack times. It's like the front of the sub is touching something inside the monitor. Pressing with my hands immediately stops the rattle, so I guess I'll have to glue it.

Can i use the wood glue to stick a 500rms sundown subwoofer spider?

    • @LikayPo_DIY
      @LikayPo_DIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I searched further and if it is wood to wood then wood glue is great. for other mix materials, Gorrilla glue or epoxy might do a better job. Though I might say that to this day, the glue I used still stand strong. I have been using my sound system for an average of 4 hours a day - streaming music and videos that are sometimes heavy in bass.

Get a sewing needle I sick it gently in your subwoofer cone and gently move it up and pull your cone out as. Old college trick pull out needle and stick it gently in but not in the same hole and your cone will come forward after done use nail polish to cover the holes

1: Never use wood glue for something like that there is no wood in a Speaker. 2: Get something like e 6000 Clean the old surface and apply e 6000 around every area that needs glue and clamp for 24 hours. Hope this helps👍

Don't use wood glue to re-glue the spider on a subwoofer. Use E6000, epoxy, or a rubber-reinforced CA glue.

Wood glue works on wood products. Yes the spider is paper made by wood. But the spider landing is made of metal. So bonding metal to paper is NOT a time for wood glue. Just saying.
