Yup, read that article, found it pretty annoying -- she took her problems with food and blamed them on keto, which frankly does a dis-service to others trying to find a way to get to a 'healthier' weight. I also thought about food constantly, but the thing that I've really realized is that I used to have thing thing where I ate bread or ice cream or chocolate and my stomach would be full, but my mouth just wanted to experience the luxury of gorging. I thought even just the desire was me being a bad weak person, but now that I limit my carbs, I don't have that desire anymore. The thing where my mouth wants more more more simply doesn't occur. It feels like a literal miracle. Disclaimer: if I have the keto chocolate bars, I can feel that urge like 15% -- so I limit them or anticipate that. And if I fall off, I just get back on the next day -- which is the real crux of the issue, just being at peace with "OK, that wasn't my ideal vision of my actions, but I can decide to accept it, learn, and keep going."

Yes it's restricting, EVERY diet is restricting, you just choose what you want to restrict. I had a friend that didn't like doing keto because she kept saying she felt guilty if she was eating carbs. I don't understand that myself, if I have carbs it's because I made the choice to have them, then I make the choice to continue eating keto.

I really appreciate your approach - the writer of this article appears to not only misunderstand how keto works, but clearly came in with very unhealthy habits already in place. They do themselves and everyone else a huge disservice by blaming keto for their bad relationship with food.

I'm with you. Just turned 72 and have finally found something that works for me. I've lost 90 pounds lost the first 50 with low carb 4 years ago I thought I was at a good weight at 185 but in 6 months the last 40 fell off with "technically Keto.. Couldn't be more excited. Haven't weight this since 6th grade.

I lost 92lbs doing carnivore, and stalled 8 months. During the last 2-3 of those months I switched to keto, and counted carbs, but I was still not losing.
I had started at 338lbs and I think that after 2 years of carnivore, my body adjusted and I needed to reevaluate what I was doing. No I didn’t gain, but at 240’s I still needed to lose.
I know counting carbs only works for some people, but I understand why the lady in the article focused on her calories and macros. Some of us need to, in order to continue losing weight. We are all different and need different things.
Having said that, any diet you do will have you reading labels and obsessing over numbers-keto is carbs, vegan is animal ingredients, weight watchers is fat and calories and points. It’s all relative to your goals.

Keto is like skincare. It's different for everybody. You can adjust it to fit your needs. What works for you, won't necessarily work for others. I definitely don't feel deprived on keto. You can have all of the same things that you had before, you just prepare it differently. Brownies, pasta, bread, or whatever. It's a shame this woman feels this way about keto, but hopefully she will find a lifestyle that will suit her needs better. Great video ladies!

I get kind of annoyed when people say that keto is so restrictive - I don't really see it as any different from anything else. Most non keto people eat carbs but restrict fat (probably unconsciously most of the time). I see it that through doing keto, I'm just making the choice to prioritize other food groups. And yes, at the start it was a bit hard - but mainly from habit and convenience. Now I know I can totally live without bread or a potato. I don't even notice the lack or care about it. But I'm certain that if I had to restrict fat again - it would suck all the joy out of life 😆

I tracked religiously for about six months just to build the intuition. I was actually not eating enough when I tracked my regular eating at the beginning. I was dang near starving myself at about 500cals/day because I rarely bothered to eat. I wasn’t trying to lose weight, just didn’t prioritize my own needs. I’m now down ~75 lbs and quit tracking quite some time ago. This is how I’m going to live the rest of my life and won’t obsess over it forever. That’s the beauty of keto, both me and my body know what to do!

Keto and IF can destroy your relationship with food if you’re using food for entertainment or an emotional crutch. IF made me realize I was eating not when I was hungry but when I was bored or just wanted to eat. Keto made me realize that I was eating way to many carbs. The two together made me realize I had to eat mindfully with more meat and more vegetables and cut out processed foods and simple carbohydrates.

  • @alialandon2912
    @alialandon2912 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

Just fyi, for many people, keto helps you to feel full, but you still can overeat, especially when people have been binge eaters, or emotional eaters. So, if people stall out on losing weight it would be important to track and weigh your food. I agree with the twins that this article is crazy and she clearly hates keto or dieting at all.

  • @Puglover130

What a surprising and confusing article- out of the 1000’s of diets out there, keto is the LAST one I’d say would make someone hyper focused on calories. That’s the entire upside!! It sounds like the writer either has a hate on for keto, or it’s the only diet she’s ever tried. I mean.. ?? Most variations of keto don’t even suggest tracking calories at all. If she’s triggered with keto she’d really have a problem with “traditional “ dieting 🙄

I used to follow a Paleo diet for a while. I came across an article that was very similar. It was a women who went so strict on paleo, she lost her period and gave up paleo. It wasn't paleo that did that her. It was her severe food restriction. You can take any diet to the extreme, which is not healthy.

There's a bit of a learning curve, but a keto diet can have quite a lot of variety if a person wants to have the variety badly enough. I've seen loads of recipes that I would have never dreamed possible. I don't care enough to make most of those dishes tho. I go for about a pound of meat per day and use chaffles & fake bread to fill the rest of the way, maybe some bulletproof coffee. I think you're right about it saying something about the author. It is very liberating, and I doubt I ever go back to eating the way I did before.

I have Dr. Westman's voice in my head everyday (like Jimney Cricket scolding Pinocchio). 20g total carbs (not net) eat whole foods (no keto bars) and wait until you are slightly hangry to start eating (extending your fasting window each day). I rarely make good, but laugh at myself and say well that was a 40g day, or NFL Sundays with beer is at least "ONLY" 50% of my calories came from carbs and laugh. Next day I get up and (like Pinoccio pushing on his extended nose) push my belly upward in the mirror and live to fight another day.....

I am new to the ketogenic lifestyle. I go into it to combat the spikes in my blood sugar. My Doctor suggested that I learn a but about keto, and after four months limiting myself to just 30 grams of carbs per day. Doing that has enabled me to lose 60 pounds, cut my daily insulin dose in half, dropped one diabetes med, and cut the dose of another med in half! After 40 years of failing on the "low fat" diet, keto is a wonderful thing to learn.
Even my co-workers have noticed the change in my personality, I'm much more "Santa"-like. No more "hangry", nor more thinking constantly about food. I LOVE it!

So it has really helped me to be able to relax about it. I don't like the terms "cheat" or "slip up" to describe when I eat something that is not keto. It makes it sound like I did something bad or out of my control. Instead, it is just a choice I made in that moment, and the next moment, i can make a different choice.

I can so relate to the lady in the article! I was normal weight almost all of my life. Twice I gained 35-42 lbs, got it off & kept it off for years. In my 40’s I had a trifecta of huge emotional losses. I gradually filled all of the holes in my life with carbie food-like substances, bingeing and dieting. Despite the “dieting” I averaged a 7 pound gain every year for 10 years = 70 pounds. I am not tall and have a small frame. Gradually, I got to the point where my knees hurt so much that I sat most of the time. I gradually gave up gardening and started a side gig making decorated cookies, eating the “mistakes” until I became borderline diabetic and in need of knee replacements. I started keto January 1st 2018 to lose weight and avoid knee surgery & diabetes. I wasn’t happy about it but I knew I had to. I brainwashed myself into sticking with keto by watching keto & human evolution TH-cams. Also by forcing myself to eat meat whenever carbs tempted me. I VERY depressed about giving up decorated cookies, the creativity and the online community of Cookiers. Losing 50 lbs didn’t help my knees enough. I had one knee replacement and was able to garden again with gusto! The constant “parade of carb junk” in my head was replaced with flowers 💐 🌻🌸. I kept the 50 off for 5 years and gradually began making too many carb exceptions & mini binges. Thank goodness I found you, Emily & Sarah❣️Everything you say & do is helping me stop the regain and lose by becoming Technically Keto! I now accept the fact I need to make this my forever lifestyle. You both are brilliant and effective with your honesty, sharing your experiences and adding the new things you are still learning 👏👍🏻🌟 Thank you so much ❤

My opinion is the author has an obsessive personality. I obsessed like this while on WW, DW, OA, etc. It was food 24/7 because I had to plan, shop, cook, blah, blah, blah! When switching to low carb/keto, I found myself calm thinking about food for the first time. Btw, I'm not a few lbs overweight...try 160...and still I find this lifestyle easier and better. I can't do 20 carbs... ok, no problem! I allow more carbs but healthy ones not processed. If I crave a banana or oatmeal, I have it. I don't have it again for weeks but sometimes you have to allow that crave just don't go crazy. As you said, my 20-30-40 carbs per day is way better than my previous hundreds per day!

I read that article and came up with the SAME EXACT thoughts as you! I am 90% carnivore w some keto on the side. I can not eat carb foods except in rare instances. I eat sushi a couple times per month, I eat some nuts, some onion and garlic, some guac…..but yeah. Keto is limiting. Duh. No limits are the thing that made the author need to lose 100 lbs to begin with. My relationship now without bananas and sweet potatoes, and rarely rice, etc means I have lost my excess fat, I am stronger, more flexible and I feel amazing in my clothes. As a yoga instructor and a mama of 7, I know I am a good example to those who see me. And I love you two! Thanks for all you contribute to making my life better. Yeah, sometimes eating keto can be challenging (like maybe in a group setting, when everyone wants pizza or something), but you learn to make it work. I switched to keto about 4 years ago when I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. At the time, my doctor told me to cut back on sweets and the thing was, I didn't even eat sweets. I've never had a sweet tooth. What was hurting me personally was the bread, the pasta (which as an Italian-American was hard to give up!), and the rice. So, I had to find a different route.
So, yeah, those carby foods might be all right for some people to eat (in fact, I know people who are healthy and practically live on carbs), but not me. And so when I switched to keto, I actually reversed my Diabetes. In fact, when I switched doctors last year, he was surprised that I even was supposedly Diabetic, because my numbers were all normal and healthy.
But yeah, it's all about biodiversity -- different things work for different bodies -- at the end of the day and finding what works for you, but also making that work for your life. Do I 'cheat' sometimes? Yes. But I just got back to eating keto the next meal/day. And I don't stress about it.

I’m seeing comments about not tracking calories on keto and how unnecessary it is. That’s not entirely accurate. Consuming too much fat on Keto can actually stall your weight loss or make you gain weight if you’re not careful of the fats you consume while on Keto. Just something to keep in mind until you’re fat adapted.

I’ve been doing low carb for about 2 months now and i feel content with it. I did have one “cheat” meal last week and had some of my kids Halloween candy and it was a disaster. I woke up in the middle of the night with severe stomach pain, dizziness, and vomiting. The worst!

I have explained the caution keto people feel about the in or out of keto eating. It is a different mechanism from other diet plans. So keto people aren’t elitist. They just don’t want to lose the keto metabolism. I’ve lost inches in fat laden places like my thighs, butt, knees and upper arms. Cannot believe those places have decreased! Yea!

In AA (alcoholics anonymous and food addiction) the recovering people say that abstinence removes the pleasure of their addiction. They can't get the same pleasure as before getting clean. 12 Step Program helps them find joy in their life again. It's not shameful to admit you are powerless over wanting to be fulfilled from outside stimulation. That's the 1st step to recovering. Hope she can get a handle on Real fulfillment 🙏🏼❣

You girls are absolutely right! You have to restrict for the rest of your life because we live an a time where abundant food is accessible. Our ancient ancestors used to have periods of plenty and famine, and we are hardwired to instinctively store up in preparation for a famine. We no longer “currently” experience famines, so we have to restrict our diets to avoid obesity and food related diseases. All the blue zone areas where people live super long lives have one thing in common; they all eat calorie restrictive diets.

I find keto restrictive because I'm completely changing my diet. I haven't been big about veggies. What helps is not caring if I'm clean or dirty keto. I also move between low carb and keto. I do feel really good when I'm in ketosis. It is getting easier as I learn.

It's funny, but keto actually *healed* my relationship with food. I actually enjoy cooking now, look forward to trying new recipes, eat without binging or feeding guilty, and feel more healthy overall. And yes, no more hangry!!! I track on My Fitness Pal because I've found it a helpful daily habit to keep that self awareness going. I hope the lady who wrote the article finds peace with food. It sounds like she needed some counseling in combination with the diet.

I been off of Keto for a 1 1/2 year. Gained about 15Ilbs. You two are motivating. I like the idea of taking each day at a time.
Back then I bought a Vitamix blender stumble across it yesterday while decluttering. What a sad moment.

Great video ladies. People so badly want to find fault with something so they can continue the bad behavior. I would love to to hit 20 carbs a day, but I feel lucky when I come in at 40 and the occasional day when I’m carbs 60+. I still eat the things I like just in different forms. Thanks to some amazing substitute items like EggLife wraps. I’m leaning towards carnivore more now and it seems to help me feel content.

i very strongly feel that this article is meant to draw people away from keto, to scare them off because keto really works. Many other diets and health structures are not getting as much business when we find success with keto. Our whole lives we have been trained that we need to eat a lot every day, we can’t survive without carbs and we will become seriously unhealthy with fatty meals. I really hope that eventually people will read between the lines and realize this all comes down to money that tons of institutions lose from us doing keto. I was incredibly angry for a long time on how everything i was taught on nutrition was so wrong. You stop eating the carbs and sugars, you lose weight, its that simple. Now i see it for what it is. Protect yourselves, do some research, you can’t believe everything you read and hear, research 👍❤️

Low carb has been the first sustainable change I've ever made. I don't really monitor anything except processed foods/carbs. I occasionally eat potatoes but I don't really prefer any other carb dense foods anymore because I feel great without them. If I never lose another lb I'll still keep going because I feel good.

I tracked everything for the first 3 months so I could get a feel for it. I am back to tracking my food again because of my blood pressure. It has been high and the doctor wants me on meds. I am not ready to go there yet. I have lost 50 lbs in 7 months and still have at least 60-70 lbs to go. I feel my blood pressure will come down as the weight does. I started tracking again to see if anything I am eating is having an effect on my blood pressure.

First of all just found your channel and something about you ladies I like. Love the chaffles and your personalities. I don’t even do keto anymore, i carb cycle which works for me. Down 23 pounds with 10 more to go to reach my dream goal. But I whole heartedly agree with your statement on the lady that wrote the article. She seems to have an issue with food and dieting in general, and keto isn’t the problem. She will have this issue with any diet she does. But anyways glad I found you ladies! Thanks for the great content!

Ladies, y'all have shared your journey, the good and the bad. You have come to understand your struggles and successes. You are now at the place where you listen to your body and know what works for you. It's a lifestyle and you have chosen wisely Grasshopper! 😊 We all need to come to that realization.
