A lot of people fail because they chase sugar, they try and continue to feed their sugar habit with artificial sweeteners.that doesn’t work because you need to stop sugar period, why torture yourself.stop chasing sweets, it’s the only way

to be keto you need to keep carbs to 20 grams or less each of the dinner were18 carbs per meal, which means one diner is all you can have all day. Don't waste your money.

My husband was diagnosed in 2/2016 with T2 diabetes. The thoughts of amputations kidney dialysis heart disease blindness propelled us into a lifestyle change which we later discovered was keto. we began our journey 2/2016 and both achieved 100 pound loss in 5/2021!! it took us 5 years after starting out at just over 300lbs each. It doesn't matter how long it takes there is no finish line. My husband reversed his diabetes we take no meds we have no metabolic disease. I am currently 168 and my husband 179. We are ketotarians for life.

If anyone reading this is struggling on this way of eating…I went for 3 months only losing 2-3lbs, however, I was losing inches!! And it wasn’t inches in the usual places; I was losing in my feet and fingers too. Stay the course because this isn’t a typical weight loss diet. Also, you really will feel so much better making it a lifestyle change.

Me too, Ms Kellogg. I was feeling like the only person in the world who didn't lose anything for a long, long time. Yet, I was getting smaller everywhere! So weird. My main reason for trying keto was to reduce pain and walk without a cane. So, that worked! But honestly, I did really also want to lose weight! I lost 40lbs. Now I can't stay on keto more than 3 or 4 days at a time. sigh. Don't understand what's happening with me. It is stressful.

This video is so smart and should be required viewing for anyone eating Keto. I lost around 100 pounds and reach my goal weight of 165 lb. Then I put 20 lb back on and I'm having a hard time taking that 20 lb back off. It's way harder the second time around. But I really needed to see this video. It made me face the fact that I'm eating too many so-called keto snacks. Keto has been a total life changer for me. I have lupus and it was attacking my lungs for 10 years and I carried oxygen around everywhere I went. When I lost all that weight I was able to get rid of the oxygen. Sorry this is so long. But thanks for this great video and all the other videos you make.❤

I've been on keto for 5 months. I'm averaging 1lb+ a week weight loss. 27lbs in total. I'm extremely happy with my results. I feel like if I lose weight to fast that my skin won't have the opportunity to shrink fast enough and not be hanging. Being over 60 it's a Lil harder for the skin to snap back but I'm pleased with the process so far. You girls are great and thank you for my continued success. 💯👍❤️

Intermittent fasting combined with calorie restriction and exercise while in ketosis will guarantee weight loss. One meal a day is highly effective, but may be a bit of a challenge for most people. Try fasting for 16 hours and eat all your meals within an 8 hour window. Longer fasts and shorter eating windows will make the weight come off faster. Stayng under 20 total carbs (not net) a day will ensure you stay in ketosis. Expect it to take a while to reach your goals. Thats how I started losing weight again after hitting my plateau a few months back. I've been at it for about 15 months total and have lost around 150 lbs. Was 50x30 pants size. Now 36x30. My goals are 32x30 and to weigh 160 pounds. That's around 200 pounds of total weight loss. I'm getting there and so can you. Be prepared to eat like this for the rest of your life if you wanna keep the weight off. Stop trying to replace your favorite foods with keto versions. DIY keto treats tend to have fewer carbs than store bought so make them yourself. Just remember they're called treats for a reason so don't overdo it. Plus when you're seeing the results of your hard work in the mirror, you probably won't be craving any of the foods that made you fat to begin with. You've got this! You owe it to yourself! You will feel so much better physically and mentally. I do and you will too if you keep it up and stay on track!

That's how my husband and I started--20 carbs or less, 6/18 fasting and lots of protein and fats. We've been at it for only 18 days but seeing great progress so far.
He started around your start weight (368). Are you sure you want to go to 160? There's going to be some skin weight that you may be discounting...js. I don't think he has a goal weight in mind yet but I would think 180-190 would be good especially since we can't afford any skin removal surgeries. Just a thought...well I guess if you're shorter. He's 6' even.

That type of calorie restricted diet got me in the situation I am in now which is obesity. An individual needs to eat when they're hungry, and we need to know what hunger really is. I'm 5. 10' I am 105.8 kilos. I have coffee with butter with two sweeteners in the morning. Which would probably break a fast, but then I don't eat until 1 pm or a little earlier if I'm hungry. The main thing for me is don't eat too fast. I eat a decent meal though like chaffle B L T. And if I'm still hungry I eat another one . With mayo and American mustard. I drink plenty of water💧 and most nights I have dinner around 7 pm spaghetti bolognese Keto and zoodles or a curry with Romaine lettuce or cauliflower rice. But I could never just live on one meal a day ID be miserable.♥️ I'm losing weight alright

Re: People messing themselves up by adding fat to foods, I try to explain this to people by saying that YES, in keto fat is your primary fuel and should be your primary macronutrient. But you have to decide if that fat is coming off of your plate or off of your ass.

Solid advice! I’ve lost 80 and am basically doing “trickle loss.” I’m fine with where I am but am about 10 from goal. I’ve kind of let go of the notion of having a hard set goal and my days of obsessing are over. I will say that I needed to be diligent and obsessive for my first 75 pounds. Maybe not everyone is that way but it took me a year or so to get really good with intuitive eating and being able to gauge intake without tracking. Calories matter greatly, more than any other aspect, on whatever lifestyle you choose.
Another thing to keep in the forefront is to enjoy the changes in your mind, health, and body as they happen! Don’t focus on what is ahead, appreciate what you’ve accomplished so far! It was so funny, I had lost a good amount but couldn’t see it. One day I caught the sight of my back in the mirror and was like “holy crow, my back fat is almost gone!” 😂 More importantly you lose visceral fat first, which is what presses against your organs and causes them to not work as they should. You don’t see the results of that, but are you ever doing your body the biggest favor. If the scale is moving but your pants size isn’t, know that you are doing AMAZING things for what matters most. You don’t know how bad you feel until you start feeling good. One more anecdote: I lost a good chunk of my weight during quarantine and WFH. Once back in the office I went up the flight of stairs that used to get me winded. It took a moment to dawn on me that I whizzed up those stairs like it was nothing when the last time I used them I was huffing and puffing at the top! It was such a proud moment so I stood there to soak it up for a bit.
But yeah, everything KT’s said is right! Wishing everyone well and cheering you on!

It’s still “moderation in everything.” I think we are programmed to eating “meals.” I think of low carb nutrition as eating “functionally.” A protein, a fat, fiber, water. Doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving dinner. Love your straight forward, honest assessments. The struggle is real. 💕

Yes, yes, yes! This is timely! I lost 56.5 lbs in just over 8 months without any of the packaged foods and products (I kept it to 20 net carbs a day). I only used a pre-packaged low-carb shake sometimes. The weight melted, walking on treadmill put the loss in overdrive. All this happened between June 30, 2019 and about March 11, 2020….then quarantine. I started panic buying so many keto products online out of fear that the food supply of fresh meat and possibly vegetables would disappear and only carbohydrates would be available. Sad but true. I wanted assurance I could stay low-carb. But it wasn’t the products that helped me lose the weight to start with. Who could’ve predicted this mess? I maintained a 50 lb loss until fall of 2020. But the extreme sense of restrictions on life because of the c-virus, loss of family members and a sense of lost hope really sunk my boat. I gave myself permission to add in the sugar and carbs, for emotional reasons. But not only that, I quit the walking as well. I have gained all but 9 lbs back. I am re-starting (this makes several times I’ve tried since) and remind myself to keep it simple! Not to rely on prepackaged foods (which were really just snacks anyway). I am interested in the Factor meals, however, just to supplement times we don’t want to cook dinner. I will see if they can be frozen or fresh meals only. We sorta live in a food desert and it is not convenient to run to the grocery store at all. Luckily no fast food delivers here either, lol!

I eat the Keto ration yogurt as well, and I've had no problems. I found my biggest issue when I wasn't losing was calories. I think the keto ration yogurts are made with pretty good ingredients, but one container is 200 calories. I'd suggest tracking calories as well, it may put things into a better perspective. :)

You nailed it... I am a "binge eater", especially a carb addict. I grew up food insecure and I think that significantly contributed to my lack of self control w/r to eating junk (sweets, carbs, chips, etc.). Once the brain is programmed during childhood, it's extremely hard to unprogram it later in life. Keto can effectively work around an unhealthy relationship with food for many of us.

    • @Polynomia

I know exactly how you feel.
I have zero control over my binging on all sorts of high carb foods when attempting a traditional low calorie diet.
Somehow It feels almost easy to pass on those things when I'm on Keto,
I have no idea why that is, but It makes it way easier to stick to the right foods.
I bought a big box of chocolate cookies for my employees and I haven't had a single cookie myself, despite passing that box several times a day.
That makes me feel kinda proud of myself and motivates me even further.

It's not even binge eating exactly, but admitting you have a carb addiction.
And I agree - eating treats, more prepared foods is best to leave for maintenance. You stay away from the addicting carbs by eating the keto version, but it's still junk food with calories. YES, there are times you just need that treat to stay on plan, but that should be rare in the weight loss phase. (If you go that route).
People get so caught up in the RULES of keto - there are no rules except to keep the carb count low (and what is low is different from person to person.) Basically, you should stop eating carbs in potatoes, rice, bread, and starchy fruits, but you can eat beans and almost any veggie because let's be real, do you ever crave/binge on beans? or tomatoes or zucchini? No, just the carb-filled zucchini bread.

I think the whole “net carbs” vs. “total carbs” can be an issue. The package might say “only two net carbs” while the total carbs is much higher. Who knows how your body might actually process those carbs?

    • @TheJokesterSCR
      @TheJokesterSCR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

For most people, following net carbs works just fine. If you're not seeing results in a month, THEN try counting total carbs. Just like with fats, not all carbs are created equal. We're learning more and more about how it all works within the body. Thomas DeLauer is easily the best source for all the latest Keto information.

SO much wisdom & common sense. I've been doing keto since March and it's taken me this long to realize a lot of what y'all just said. I've lost quite a bit of weight - dunno how much because I don't care how much. I started keto to get my glucose under control which has happened slowly over this time.
I USED to have the mindset that this was a temporary necessity to fix the problem and that it will magically stay fixed beyond that point - I realize the error of that thought process.
I feel better than I have in DECADES and I staying keto until I die.

Right on, you two. I needed this today! I've plateaued a bit after losing 36 pounds thus far. I think I hit a point where the novelty of being able to eat wonderful meats, bacon, nice steaks, and full fat things has worn off a bit. Which is so silly. Come ON, brain, how can you think that eating this beautiful steak is not indulgently delicious regardless?! Just goes to show I've gotta change it up and make sure my appetite for novelty is satiated, as well my hunger. I know some people can happily eat the same thing over and over; I wish I could. I will go a little wack and start hunting for treats and making yummy keto desserts if I don't scratch that novelty itch in my main meals.
And, sadly, I've learned that sweetness itself, even sweetness with zero glycemic impact, is still a trigger for addictive behavior. There are apparently hormones and brain responses that are triggered by simply tasting sweetness-regardless of blood sugar impact. Upon hearing this, I suddenly began to understand why my cravings came back. I had been eating super clean for the first few months and the cravings eased off. Then I started adding in some homemade keto treats once in awhile. They were all pretty healthy, such as avocado pudding, keto mug cake, and such, but it turns out, I need to eat them much more rarely than I have been to maintain my sanity. Even more rarely than your very sensible 70/30 rule.
See, this is how I know I'm an addict. I go insane when I taste a treat. I can literally feel my brain wind up like a little crackhead on a bender and I want more more MORE. WTH!! I so relate to your cake story. Cake/crack, yadda yadda, what's the difference, anyway! **runs away screaming maniacally**
Okay, deep breath. Now, back to that steak... Thanks, Sarah and Emily. Much love from California.

I relate to you both so much. I've arrived to the same conclusion, this must be a lifestyle and you will do the best to keep it simple, most of the time. I am down almost 100 lbs, and plan to do this forever. What has helped me is to have "nevers" - foods I never, ever will eat again. If I was a moderator, I wouldn't have gotten over 300 lbs. I am the kind of person who could eat pizza(s) - plural form, haha. I really enjoy your channel, thank you for sharing your journey with all of us!

Thanks for this today! I needed these reminders as to why I’m going to keep this lifestyle. I started Keto in September of 2020. I went from 225lbs to 175lbs. Sat at that plateau for several months. I went off Keto this past september and in the following four months, gained back 30 lbs. I’ve been back on track now for about 3 weeks and have dropped
13 lbs again. I’m definitely in this for the long haul!!

Your advice is spot on. Stop eating so much. The beauty of being in ketosis is that you are not as hungry. If you’re hungry, you probably aren’t in ketosis. Just my personal observation.

I have been on Keto since 2017, went from 233 down to 175, and have kept it off. You are right; this is not a diet but a "lifestyle." I am about to turn 80 and have had to stop my exercise program - this old body is starting to give me problems, mainly with arthritis - as a result, I have gained 8-10 lbs. You didn't mention how much an exercise program can help in this journey. I have gone back on strict Keto to get it back off.
I really love the work you girls do and only say keep it up!

Well said!!! I went from a size 16/17 to a size 5 a totally of 65lbs list on keto over a years time the biggest part I lost the last 7 months of that year cause I stopped buying ketofied substitutes and having cycles of cheat days when I got serious and just did meat vegetables and a protein it started to just melt off I maintained the weight for about a year then slowly went back to cheat days and gave in all together on top of being less active than I was before I'm right back to where I started fat. I know keto works for me and I can do it again. I now know what my triggers are and I am working on those

I restarted keto in 2017 after noticing many signs of pre-diabetes. I was 35 pounds overweight, so not obese. I lost 5 pounds the first week, then nothing, zero pounds for the next 6 weeks. If I had focused only on the scale, I would have quit and joined the "keto doesn't work" club. Instead I did some research and some fasting. It took me more than 6 months to lose the weight. It's about health first and a permanent lifestyle, not necessarily quick weight loss.

Eating keto takes practice. We started out all strict and lost weight but just couldn't stick to it. Gained weight back and felt awful and started up again but this time less strict but trying to do all these extra things like keto breads, desserts and expensive items. 3rd time was much less stressful but couldn't stick again. So to date off keto but just consciously making food with less carbs so it takes practice to learn this lifestyles. Unlearning bad habits and lies we have been told for years about the food we should and shouldn't eat. Habits are hard to change and break. I believe we will get it one day but carb and sugar addiction is a real thing. Thanks Keto Twins. Love your channel and how you use your struggles to help others❤

Thank you! Many people do not think of this as a lifestyle…so true! Any diet you choose is a lifestyle. When someone goes on any diet they often talk about when this diet is over. Many friends have done WW and gained the weight back. They are surprised it “didn’t work.” As long as you follow their plan it does work for most. When you stop, you gain weight. Same with keto. I, also have gone on and off keto thinking I would follow without support…I did not…I need the support. Your videos and Facebook posts provide the daily encouragement I need. So..thank you to all who posts and thank you Emily and Sarah for your videos.

I learned a lesson the hard way recently, when I got blood results after doing a lot of traveling and eating at other people's homes. I thought after losing 26 pounds on keto and keeping it off for almost four years that I could have a cheat meal once or twice a week for a few months. Gained 16 pounds, mostly around the middle, and my previously low glucose level went from normal to prediiabetic. I had already discovered that keto breads and snacks bloat me and make me feel bad. Now I know I am not on a diet but a lifestyle. I have lost 10 pounds over 6 weeks, back on lazy keto again. I now know it's keto or very low carb for me for life or there will be health consequences--and almost instantly. I am just not meant to be a carb eater.

The first 5 to 10lbs you lose on keto is just water. Unless you can lose a lot of weight your insulin sensitivity is probably not going to improve that much. You can avoid carbs and make it look like your numbers are better but you are still insulin resistant.

  • @pamandrzejak1143

I had to quit keto because no matter what I tried I became chronically constipated. I ate salad and vegetables and drank water and lemon water and even took magnesium and Metamucil. The chronic constipation then made my liver values start to elevate and that was the end for me. So now I’m counting calories and also still count carbs so that I don’t go overboard on carbs. I also still do intermittent fasting, coffee in the morning, celery juice for lunch and a healthy dinner. I also have oatmeal three times a week. I really Do believe that low carb is THE BEST diet for life.

  • @sweater0115

I love this. I think the biggest thing people don't understand in my experience is that there is still a calories in vs calories out factor. Like you two said, you're just likely eating less when eating simply because you're not gorging on snacks that you normally eat that are full of carbs. The restriction means you'll eat less because there is less available to you, and if you're eating simply, your body is getting fuller more easily on the whole foods. But eventually, with all the recipes, it can become easy to over indulge, and people still need to consider calorie counts.
    Loved this conversation!

Keto works great when you eat simply. I lost over 70 lbs in 5 months (no carb counting), went from pre-diabetic back to normal & BMI dropped to 23 from 33. I eat seafood (meat eaters can substitue meats) over lettuce with steamed veggies (spinach, broccoli, mushrooms. etc) one day, then the following day I have 2 eggs & a whole avocado. Eggs Fried in EEVO sometimes in heart healthy butter.. By switching the fish & vegetables I get a nice variety. I drink heavy cream in coffee & never snack. I try to walk 5-10 miles a day. I am wearing skinny jeans again. Use OMAD with keto & pounds will rapidly vanish. Thete is no excuse for carb addicts (,possibly sicker than tobacco, drug & alcohol addicts) to allow food companies to remove fats and poison people with carbs. I prepare all fresh food. No fast food. Big tobacco bought General Foods & other companies. They are lying about carbs ( sugars, starches, grains& fake seed oils) and killing people like they are doing with smoking. I am 70 yrs old.
