The One-Punch Man game had saitama as a character, but due to the fact that he would win the fight with a single punch, he always ends up being late to the fight. Basically you have to run out a timer with your team effectively down a fighter until he shows up and wins effortlessly
For years, I've tried to explain this weird anime I watched as a kid to people as "people in bird costumes fighting aliens or something" and could never remember the name, so, thank you Andy for finally granting my mind solace.
@@Mario87456 The anime got several localizations to various countries where it went by many names. The version I saw as a wee lad was called "G Force" and, as Blue Ranger pointed out, the UK got it under the moniker "Battle of the Planets".
@@gamemasteranthony2756 Yup, Battle of the Planets is the version I remember as a kid from the late 70's/early 80's. G-Force and Eagle Riders were re-edits/dubs of the same material.
Can't forget about my man Voldo who actively chooses to fight his enemy with several attacks that can only be performed when facing away from his enemy, such as knocking his opponent back with his butt for starters, and let's not even get started on his crawling position he takes to charge at opponents.
@@Crossed His stance where he crawls on all fours and launches his opponents in the air with pelvic thrusts, as well as being able to curl up into a ball and create a mini explosion from his body? Yep, sounds very common lol.
@@Crossed But it's never done like Voldo does it. He has an air of being unnatural. And the ways it's implemented is different. And no one crawl fights like him.
I want to add Hanataro Yamada from Bleach Shattered Blade (aka "that silly medic boy from the anime"). In a game where you use your sword for whick combos and hurt your enemy, his sword HEALS the oponent and only his specials deal damage. You can use abilities to charge your super meter, but healing the enemy charges it better, which makes your sword awaken and become a scalpel (it makes sense in canon) and become able to finally damage normally. The scalpel has THE worst range of the game, and an average damage, but the reason why you use it is because once you've awakened your blade you can unleash the second strongest move in the entire game, that being a giant explosion/energy slash that covers about 4/5 of the screen. Only the final boss' ultimate attack deals more damage.
Steve may be the bigger odd ball character in smash but the first character with a really odd play style is still Olimar who plays more like his original game where you need to keep track of your Pikmin and use them for the right senecio.
In the 2013 reboot of Killer Instinct one of the game's characters ARIA has three health bars instead of two they belong to her alternate bodies who can be called in to help out during a fight when when ARIA's artificial intelligence isn't inhabiting them, ARIA herself gains different attacks depending on which body she's using.
On the topic of Nick Wright in UMVC, I think he could genuinely tank at least one hit from the likes of the Hulk. The guy has some crazy durability. My terrible memory can't keep track of the more significant blows but he can casually brush off things like whips and hot coffee being thrown at him at high speeds. Play through the Ace Attorney series and you'll see that he's taken a lot of beatings of varying levels.
@@harleehall2032 i don't really know the lore, but because you typed "used to", i'll assume that the poison was sitting in that necklace for a long time. Over time, poison actually gets less potent after it expires. Still, DO NOT CONSUME POISON EVEN IF IT'S EXPIRED
Voldo from Soul Calibur is an excellent entry in the list of insanity. His body bends in ways I'm not sure a human body is supposed to, which makes him genuinely confusing to fight against. He's not as unique as characters like Steve From Minecraft, who bring whole new mechanics to the battlefield, but he's by far the hardest character to read in any Soul Calibur game that has him.
Would just like to say that, yes, his body bends in ways the human body is not supposed to. I don't recall much from those games, but I seem to recall he actually had ligaments surgically removed or something of that like in service to his master.
My favorite example of unusual fighters is Koishi Komeiji from Touhou's fighting game installments. In Hopeless Masquerade, Koishi doesn't instantly perform her attacks, instead she stores them and uses them automatically when certain conditions are met. (For example, her long range grab activates when she hits her opponent with another attack) In Urban Legend in Limbo and Antinomy of Common Flowers, Koishi's auto attacks now happen as soon as the input, but now they are stronger in certain conditions. Needless to say, it took Koishi mains some time to figure her out. Edit: I forgot to mention, they are aerial battles because everyone can fly, which is already unusual for a fighting game.
Or Remilia Scarlet in Hisoutensoku, a game where everyone flies and grazes as a movement option, Remilia instead airdashes around and across the screen, creating a very unique presence during gameplay.
Min Min is also a pretty unique fighter in Smash Bros because she doesn't have special moves in the same way that other characters do. Instead, her special moves are linked to her right arm whilst normal punches are linked to her left, and you can alternate between punches this way
Hero is also up there in terms of uniqueness. On paper he just looks like another sword user. But his whole rng spell list alone makes him one of the more unique characters. Since he has to fight his own RNG just as much as his opponent.
In PlayStation all stars (PlayStations smash bros like): You need to collect exp orbs to use your super moves which are the only way to kill your opponent, usually you can do this by hitting them, and the way to prevent your opponent doing the same is by blocking. Sly cooper can’t do this, instead he turns invisible, this is inservice to his master thief origins, if he is able to do a combo from behind a player, some of their exp is transferred to them directly. He is the only player in the game that has an exp transfer and no block button.
Love to see my man getting some recognition. Sly was my first ever game series, (Besides NES Mario, natch,) and I love to see him pop up in conversation every so often.
I thought she was great personally, (as a Jack-O main) but there were a lot of people who absolutely despised her because of how different she was. She has been changed up a bit in Strive (the houses are gone) but the minions remain and now she is a very execution heavy character, reliant on summons and setting up traps with a bizarre move set that only features one direct attacking special. She's still very different but a bit more traditional now.
@@GhengisJohn heh, funny thing is that in MvC2 there was Blackheart who... sort of used minions... and also Tron Bonne whose minion droids didn't always leave immediately after she summoned them.
@@marhawkman303 I don't know what you're meaning to say with your post to be honest. Is it like "They were done before" or "It's not that unusual" or "They've been done without making people hate them." sort of thing?
When I see Oxbox do a fighting game vid, my mind goes "an Andy Farrant production" in trailer-man voice. Also, the first minute of this one has reminded me I really ought to dig my copy of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom out.
Another entry from Guilty Gear would be my favorite, Zappa. His basic special summons a completely random special that changes how you play. Do this enough times and you can call forth his ultimate summon that has some of the best attacks in the game.
When I think of a unique fighting game character, I think of how Nintendo added the Duck Hunt Duo as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Heck their final smash incorporates the Wild Gunmen and the thug's from Hogan's Alley.
Arakune in Blazblue is pretty unique, in that you mostly have to run away and have your various minion bugs attack for you. It can be very hard both to get used to fighting as, and against.
Most of Blazblue would make this list especially Rachel who literally applies real time physics on top of fighting mechanics with her wind. The only other character I know of who applies physics is Tager, who's also from Blazblue, this franchise straight up is just the devs experimenting with the most unique mechanics in fighting games.
@@GuyWithAnAmazingHat I mean, what did you expect from a game that has a normal button dedicated to character gimmicks. They knew the kind of game they wanted to make from the beginning.
Onslaught from Marvel vs Capcom (at least in the first one, I haven't played the others), is really unusual. His second form is so big that it has to be in the background, only certain parts of his body actually have hit boxes, and he is flying, which means you can just stay above the range of most of your enemy's attacks and spam the move that sends missiles across the screen.
@@KaitouKaiju Also there was Apocalypse in one of the other MvC games. Yeah. the guy who... in the comics... has sometimes made himself over 20 feet tall.
I absolutely love Andy's writing style!! I could quote so many delightful quips from this video, but my favorite line was the 'Egregious waste of pizza' - not only because I love pizza, but also because 'egregious' is one of those five star words that my ears can't help but perk up at hearing ;)
Also from Guilty Gear, Happy Chaos has like 3 different meters you need to manage: The normal Tension meter that everyone has, a concentration gauge, and the number of bullets in your gun (because he also brought a gun to a sword fight, and most of his moveset - including an entire button - is centered around just shooting his opponent wherever they are on-screen.) Not even Elphelt, the OTHER gun-wielding character, is as complex (though she's probably the reason Happy Chaos has to juggle three meters just to shoot a gun)
I just played Strive for the first time last week (had only ever played Midnight Carnival prior) I knew there was a reputation with Happy Chaos, but damn. I feel like I need a masters degree to figure out his gameplay. I also didn’t play that long 🤷🏻♂️
Tekken 3 also has Gon, the tiny tyrannosaur who doesn't come up to most fighters' knees but has extremely powerful charging attacks. Another nominee might be Super Sonico from Nitroplus Blasterz who 'fights' entirely by the cat she's holding attacking people instead of her.
So here are the examples that I could think of, even if I'm not sure they're different _enough_ to qualify. The first is the character Manaka from the game Aquapazza. What makes her different? None of her attacks are on purpose. Her entire move list consists of her carrying a stack of books and tripping, slipping and generally being a klutz, only hurting her opponent on accident. Her heaviest attacks involve her accidentally knocking over bookshelves that fall onto her opponents or falling over causing the stack of books to go flying into the air, becoming deadly projectiles. Hakumen from Blazblue is unique in that he can't do any special moves without a resource called Magatama. While other fighters might have resources they use to bolster attacks like Izayoi's Zero-Type gauge or a hand full of moves with limited uses like Bang Shishigami's nails, Hakumen is unique in that he can't do any special attacks at all, the only resource available to him are his normal attacks and a defensive counter that requires his opponent to hit him in a strict window. To put this into perspective, imagine if Ryu from street fighter could only throw his hadouken 3-4 times and then had to recharge. Hakumen recharges Magatama slowly over time, or when successfully landing a counter, encouraging a thoughtful, patient style of play because access to his better tools is so finite. And last but not least Angel from the King of Fighters. Sure, she may not _look_ that unusual as fighting game characters go and if you were to simply _watch_ footage of a pro playing her it wouldn't be readily apparent what's different about her as you'd see a fighter punching, kicking and throwing their opponents but surface appearances would be deceiving as anybody who's ever _actually tried to learn to play_ Angel might tell you. That's because taking a deeper look under the hood would reveal something called the "Unchained System" or "Unchained Circle System" a set of mechanics wholly unique in their complexity to Angel which could be described as the super saiyan version of a "rekka", or at least they could be if words accurately did the concept justice. Google "Angel unchained circle system flowchart" for a more accurate idea of what you're dealing with and brace your mind for the fact that there are 7000 unique paths through the unchained circle system. She's pretty renowned among fans of the series for drawing new players in with her appeal before making the game look as daunting as possible. Good luck with that, is all I'm saying.
Not to mention you can heal yourself in tekken and boost your soul charge in soul caliber. All while being able to walk on your swords like a spider. Literally sprinting into opponents causing combo damage. And perform the helicopter.
one thing i remember is gunjack has a instant kill move that takes a considerably long time to charge up. It's been a really long time since i played that game, but i still remember the combo. Rotate d-pad 5 times CCW without jumping and press []... it was kinda hard to do bc your opponent will interrupt you most of the time or you would accidently press up, or in the rare case you fully charge it, you choke for a split second and the combo ends before you press [].
Oh my god you actually remembered Junpei YES! That’s my boy right there! Ya know who deserves to be on a comment edition list though? Prishe and Gabranth in Final Fantasy Dissidia 012. In a game with customizable special moves as it’s major mechanic, Prishe still takes the cake as an MMO Monk who can customize her entire moveset down to the individual combo! Gabranth meanwhile is so focused on his EX mode that he’s literally called the EXecutioner in the game. One second he’s a sitting duck without even a single way to reduce an opponent’s HP, the next he’s a human blitzkrieg with an entirely upgraded moveset.
Not to mention Gabranth can equip accessories that facilitate his playstyle really well. I play Ultimecia, Exdeath mostly so a good / high level Gabranth can easily get EX and it scares me
I may just have been oblivious as a child, but it definitely felt unusually grim seeing the TNMTs tugging bladed weapons out of recently dispatched corpses.
The original comics were a riff on Frank Miller's _Daredevil_ run. By comparison, the 80s cartoon incarnation (where they hit the pop culture mainstream) was jokey and for kids and takes near-psycho Raphael and makes him 'rude and crude,' which mostly translates as 'snarky.' So you've got room for interpretation there.
Iirc Saitama onepunchman is in a fighting game. They balance him by having him only arrive a few minutes into the match- you have to outlast your opponents at the disadvantage of only having one guy until he gets there. When he does show up though, well. He's one punch man.
I feel like Bo' Rai Cho's Drunken Master variation in MKX is worth a mention, too. This variation adds a "drink" movie, which you can use anytime and even cancel most of his animations with. The drunker you get, more special moves you unlock and some other moves get faster, stronger and combo in ways "sober" Bo' can't use. But here's the trick: you have to keep drinking every now and then or Bo' will stop and vomit (!), bringing you back to level 0.
Man am I happy that you mentioned Jack-O Valentine as that was my first thought when I saw the list title. She was my main in Revelator and is for me, the series' best waifu.
Gold Lightan? Sure, but around first was.. BIG ZAM! Gundam Battle Assault. It could kick and fire beams and was the size of the screen. The Game Grumps videos of it are legendary.
Beowulf from Skullgirls is a professional wrestler with a folding chair and you have different moves based on if you're holding your chair or not, can do combo setups by kicking and throwing his chair around, and has a hype mechanic where a crowd cheers him on and makes his special moves deal extra damage. He's also male, one of the only two fighters in a game called SkullGIRLS.
What about Aria from the killer instinct reboot on Xbox one? She's basically a Marvel versus Capcom character built into ki. Instead of having two life bars like the rest of the characters in The game, she has three which are all separated amongst various forms of her body. She's a robot, so she has three different drones she can slide her consciousness into during gameplay. One drone flies, one has more powerful guns, and one has ridiculous blade combos, if I remember them all right. Her whole game plan boils down to being able to manage the life bars on all of her drones.
What's even more neat about her is you could happy birthday her drones when they came in to assist. And in her instinct mode, because she combines with all her drones, they all take damage of you hit her.
I would consider Voldo from Soul Calibur. He has a very strange fighting style where he actually turns his back to the enemy, rolling around, his attacks are pretty odd, so he can be hard to fight against.
Captain Olimar from smash bros is interesting because like in the actual pikmin games he has no ability to attack on his own and has to use pikmin he can pluck from the ground.
I wonder if anyone's mentioned snake from super smash bros. That man brought grenades, rocket launchers, and a mortar to the fight. Loved his smash move that basically gave you a grenade launcher and the ability to give your friends PTSD.
In Final Fantasy Dissidia Cecil Harvey can switch between light and dark forms depending on moves you make either on the ground or in the air. As a dark knight Cecil works best as a ground base combatant and as a paladin Cecil works phenomenal and air based combat.
Damn, Steve does not mess around with that combo, does he? He has suffered at the hands of so many Minecraft players, and now all shall suffer with him. XD
I personally think kirby qualifies. It's just that he's been in the roster from the start and we already expect him, but all his b moves grant him a spot on this list.

And he can just swallow you and jump off, float back while you plummet. Top tier tilter.
Gotta talk about Voldo from Soul Calibur! Dude worms, crawls, rolls, explodes, and air humps. The other honorable mention would be yoshimutsu. Surprised the tekken character wasn't mokujin. He's harder to predict that the turtles in Injustice imo.
Voldo is less weird (gameplay wise) than others on this list. He doesn't have any extra meters or anything and he isn't only character in the series with a different stance. Damned if he isn't weird as hell as a character, though, from everything from look, backstory, to moves. Great fun to use, too.
I always thought Dr B was a reskin of Lei's basic style (lots of rolls, flops, and "oopsie did I catch you as I moved all weird there?") with some tweaks to "special" attacks and grabs.
All I have to say is this: that one time when the Soul Calibur series included Jedi (Yoda), Sith (Vader), and undecided (Starkiller). In a game where your ranged attack options consist of a chain sword, that one guy who has guns, and throwing a shield or bladed ring, standard weapon kit consists of 15th to 18th century melee weapons...force powers in general are just plain unfair. NOBODY ELSE HAS THAT KIND OF RANGE!!! ...No, I'm not still bitter about never being able to beat any one of those three in SCIV...
Don't forget that due to Yoda's small stature, High attacks never hit him unless he's jumping. Makes him hands down the most unfair character in that game.
Could we talk about the fencer from divekick? I know it is already a weird fighting game, but he’s the only character to bring a sword to a one hit KO fighting game!
10:10 You've never heard of Tekkaman? I am irate! That was one of my favorite anime as a small child. Only like 4 episodes made it to the states on 2 VHS tapes, and I loved them all. It wasn't until I was in my 30s that I was able to track down the original series. Considering it was from the 70s or so, I guess, yeah, I can see why a young buck like you mightn't have heard much of that, but there have been a lot of later series of the same character.
Dr. B reminds me an awful lot of the likes of Yoshimitsu (Tekken *and* Soul Calibur if I remember right, for some reason), who spins in circles, pogo jumps on his sword, and one of his signature moves is to...commit seppuku; and V..Volvo? Valve? Guy who walks backwards on his scissor arms and legs (Also from Soul Calibur).
Doctor B was awesome. They let us demo fight in Software Ect, (before they were bought out by Gamestop) and Dr B was hilarious to play as, someone would go to throw a punch, press button to lie down. They get close, kick to the face. He also had a Yoshimitsu move where he'd stab himself with his remote control and if your opponent was close enough it would damage them too.
Commenting while watching the video so he may feature but I loved Playing as Voldo in Soul Calibur, he was so weird you beat your opponent by confusion alone.
If I remember correctly, there's a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game where you can play as a bird, although nobody would want to play against you if you did because it's absurdly overpowered.
Well, according to the comment directly above yours, there is and its name is Pet Shop. It's pretty funny that both of your comments were right next to each other.
I understood it but only because of wii sports. Also because I knew that victory cry is the name of a skill from persona (the rpg presona 4 arena is based on) and not an actual baseball term
I used to watch baseball before all the games moved to cable exclusivity agreements. It didn't seem complicated to me at all, but it really made me think about how it might seem that way if you were unfamiliar with it.
7 Cowardly bosses, big bads that dip and run away as soon as you become able to attack them, often you have to chase them down and corner them in order to do damage.
Not to comment on the quality of the game, it’s top. But the third one did just get given away for free with games with gold. Previous month was Zone of the Enders I think!
can we not call it a trilogy, it got 2 great games that deserve more attention than they got and a very bland and generic 3rd game that i know a lot of people would rather forget
Pet Shop in The Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game, developed by Capcom, is extremely over powered. No wonder, because he's a bird and you are a human (or dog) trying to hit this thing flying over your head.
faust is his own archetype. maids from melty blood(what makes them unique is being able to swap between the two characters for different assistrs) Nero from melty blood actress again current code(he is in game as nrvnqsr) plays starcraft by summoning an entire zoo to attack the opponent
There's a character is Arcana Hearts that's a kid in school swimwear sticking out of a giant slime, I have no idea how wild her gameplay is but that's pretty unique visual design. Also the five year old riding a giant living drawing of a monster.
Never played GG, but I'm pretty sure Jack-O's catsuit is based on Elvis. The connection to Halloween and summoning spirits eludes me, however. Thankyewverehmuch.
I always like the Noob Saibot moveset from Mortal Kombat 9, the dead half zipping up out of the underworld to hold them still and let me ruin the opponent’s abdomen, the flying kick that comes out of the down block, all of the shade style moves really. So cheap, so unique, so beautiful.
I remember playing UMVC3, and playing against an opponent who was an expert with Phoenix Wright. I could never hit the guy and he destroyed me with the ultimate, twice...
So the most unique fighter has got to be One Punch Man from his own game. Just like it sounds, and just like in the source material, he wins every fight in one punch. But also just like in the source material, no-one tells him what's going on so he shows up late to every fight! The game becomes about surviving a 2v3 battle until Saitama can arrive and save the day
Arcsys is good for having at least one (usually more) mechanically or conceptually weird character per game, like Arakune or the puppeteers in Blazblue. But the number one from an Arcsys fighter in recent memory is Lowain from Granblue Fighting Versus, who is difficult to describe except maybe that he's a dudebro chef having fun imagination battles with his bros. His playstyle is full of odd tag moves or bizarre imaginary creations, and that's not even getting into the fact that none of the fights you win with him actually happened, as it turns out he's just making them up.
Bushido Blade 2 had 2 gun guys. Ironically they weren't all that powerful comparatively, they had to stop and slowly rotate to fire and couldn't block attacks easily so any character could sprint around them and cut them down.
I always enjoyed the puppet masters from the "Naruto Shippudden: ultimate ninja storm" games. They fight with their puppet while the user stands in the back, so in order to win against them you have to get past the puppet and attack the user.
"Karate man" is good but I tend to like "Ninja Guy"/ or "Kung Fu Fighter" better.. What was funny was someone FINALLY managed to pin charges in court on Dr. Doom.
For your inevitable fan submission edition of this video, may I suggest Zappa from Guilty Gear XX? He faces backwards all the time, changes moveset based on which ghost is possessing him, can charge up one of the hardest hitting supers in the game (bellows malice), and his instant kill move is a "The Ring" reference!
Soul Calibur is a host of a lot of unique fighting style, but 2 of SC characters stand out. Voldo and Dampierre. Voldo, on all 4's, on his legs only, forward facing or backwards and rolling all over the place. Dampierre because... Dampierre.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: The game where you get to play as characters from Battle Of The Planets. Also, shout out to anyone from the UK old enough to remember that they were called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, because the word "ninja" was considered too violent.
Yoda from soul caliber. He’s to low to get a hit on and when he uses his attacks he just jumps around the screen like a mad man. He was so unique he was banned from tournaments.
Battle Arena Toshinden 2 for the original PlayStation had some unusual bosses who could be unlocked as playable fighters. The last boss Vermillion used guns that could hit from all the way across the arena.
What about Amaterasu from Okami? She fights with her brush strokes and even some paw to hand action. And she's been included as a character in fighting games from Capcom.
Dr B was fun. I played against my little brothers and the challenge of figuring out his moves kept me interested in playing endless matches against them
I haven’t actually played as him, but the explanation for how Susano’o fights in BlazBlue Centralfiction seemed pretty nifty. From what I understand, when he lands certain attacks on his enemy, he’ll gain a rune, and if I remember correctly each rune unlocked new attacks. Or, they might have just unlocked a super move. Something along those lines. Either way, it was pretty neat. He had 8 or so different attacks he needed to land to charge them up. Not quite as interesting, but still pretty neat, was Jubei, who could go into a super state for 50% Heat, essentially completely transforming his moveset for the second half of any given round.
Hanataro from Bleach : Shattered Blade for the Wii. His character's attacks were all either him being clumsy and accidentally damaging his opponent (similar to Dr. B), or attacking with a blade that healed his opponent (canonical to the anime). If you DID manage to fill his shikai meter though, you get to do major damage. A secondary character in the same game is Soifon. She had an majorly telegraphed attack that was hard to hit with, but if you managed to land it twice within about 30 seconds, you automatically win. (It's been years since I played this.)
Man, really makes me wonder what would happen if Disney makes a brawler out of their television animation shows; can you imagine fighting asymmetrically (or something close to it) as either Huey, Dewey, & Louie (the 1987 and 2017 iterations), Kim and Ron, Phineas & Ferb, Dipper and Mabel, Wander and Sylvia, Star and Marco, Anne and Sprig, or Luz and Amity (face it, if you're also a fan, you're going to enjoy playing as this battle couple; maybe even pit them against the two other battle couples here for a makeshift Death Battle of sorts, minus the death)... that would be a huge blast. Yeah, tag teaming is most likely a possibility, considering the themes of friendship, love, teamwork, and cooperation in their shows.
Yo, a Disney version of Smash Bros actually sounds pretty lit ngl. I'd definitely be a Dipper and Mabel main, I love Gravity Falls. But Disney should 100% do this.
I would like to include Munin from Brawlhalla. Her entire getup is that she musics people to death with her bow and scythe, which both have a stringed instrument design. Sure, they've made musical weapon skins in the past, but Munin is the only character to literally use music to kill your opponents
Some of the anime characters in the _Tatunoko vs Capcom_ game are not as unknown to western audiences as you might think.... Ken the Eagle/Ken Washio mentioned @ 10:20 is from an anime from the 70's called _Gatchaman_ in Japan (rebooted in recent years). This original show was dubbed into English & released in the 80's as _Battle Of The Planets_ - the character was called Mark in the US version & voiced by a well-known radio commentator, Casey Kasem. It was a staple of after-school TV along with other huge animated shows like ThunderCats, He-Man & Transformers. 👍
How could you not include Miss Fortune from Skullgirls? In a game full of already zany characters she's a stand-out because her whole schtick is she can disconnect any of her limbs or head to use as weapons or projectiles. The most fun is using her head as a football, kicking it across the screen and leaving it as an ankle biting land mine. It's gloriously stupid and I love it.
I was going to mention Miss Fortune, but for some reason didn't think the zany, pun-loving, undead cat girl, who can throw her HEAD at her enemies and stretch her arms and legs using her tendons and ligaments, wasn't weird enough to qualify on this list. Glad to see another man (or woman) of culture here. Good Job.
How about Hercule/Mr. Satan from the Dragonball fighting games? He's so weak he doesn't even make enemies move at all when he hits them, plus he has a load of compensations to make up for the fact he's fighting a bunch of super space men.
What about Blitztank from BlazBlue Cross Tag? It's a tank with a skull for a cannon that attacks with ramming and raising or lowering said skull cannon.
How about in Tekken 7 with the dlc characters ? The addition of Akuma, Eliza and Geese, they are basically borrowed from different games and work as they did there, which is quite confusing for someone that has only played Tekken up to that point.
The One-Punch Man game had saitama as a character, but due to the fact that he would win the fight with a single punch, he always ends up being late to the fight. Basically you have to run out a timer with your team effectively down a fighter until he shows up and wins effortlessly
yeah, Saitama is more win condition than fighter, play well enough that he can appear before the match ends and BOOM, you're the winner
Nice!
Saitama vs Saitama
That's amazing lmao. Love how they portrayed how absolutely op he is that way. I don't think any other way would do him justice
That sounds hilarious.

Epic
I also love how in this game, where nearly everyone fights with a sword of some sort, there is Uryu Ishida with his long range bow and arrow.
Play through the Ace Attorney series and you'll see that he's taken a lot of beatings of varying levels.
my favorite is when he got hit by a car and sent flying and basically just got up and walked away
He fell off a burning bridge and only caught a cold. Ate a glass necklace that use to have poison in it and suffered no Ill effects. And more lol
Lmao
I would pick Spawn for Soul Calibur.
Which is pretty much all of them.
He’s got some of the easiest counters too
My favorite example of unusual fighters is Koishi Komeiji from Touhou's fighting game installments.
In Hopeless Masquerade, Koishi doesn't instantly perform her attacks, instead she stores them and uses them automatically when certain conditions are met. (For example, her long range grab activates when she hits her opponent with another attack)
In Urban Legend in Limbo and Antinomy of Common Flowers, Koishi's auto attacks now happen as soon as the input, but now they are stronger in certain conditions.
Needless to say, it took Koishi mains some time to figure her out.
Edit: I forgot to mention, they are aerial battles because everyone can fly, which is already unusual for a fighting game.
man
it took me 4 years to figure out koishi
edit: the whole touhou characters
Smash bros has lots on unique characters, it'd be unfair to just go down the list.
That's been done before which is probably why they didn't mention. Other games just call them stance changers
Raidens down grab does the same thing... Not the invisible part, but the exp steal part
Love to see my man getting some recognition. Sly was my first ever game series, (Besides NES Mario, natch,) and I love to see him pop up in conversation every so often.
Every time Andy makes a video about fighting games, the world gets slightly better
What I’m hearing is Jack-O’ Valentine is a great example of asymmetric gameplay design. Also a lot of these probably are too, but still.
... she also caused an internet-trend rather recently...
The jack-o pose
Andy:"even in space! How's that possible?"
Issac Clark:"you don't want to know."
I love the fact that literally all fighting game videos are voiced exclusively by Andy, it makes me so happy.
I was rather thinking of Carl Clover, seeing as you basically have to learn to fight with two characters simultaneously.
You mean the bag of bees?
@@MessedUpBrainspike I mean, that's really just any puppet character in fighting games
I didnt think he was playable in normal play.
@@dyingstar24 You unlock him after beating the game. He is one of the invisible spaces on the character select screen.
Oh, didn't know that
Yeah, he definitely wasn't playable in the arcade. Probably only in the home version on Dreamcast
I just played Strive for the first time last week (had only ever played Midnight Carnival prior)
I knew there was a reputation with Happy Chaos, but damn.
The first one that came to my mind was Yoshimitsu from Tekken AND Soul Calibur. He can straight up stab thru his own chest to hit an opponent.
And if you successfully hit a counter with it it becomes an instant kill move. Granting it takes 80% of your health to try so you only get one shot.
Not to mention you can heal yourself in tekken and boost your soul charge in soul caliber. All while being able to walk on your swords like a spider. Literally sprinting into opponents causing combo damage. And perform the helicopter.
Isn't that the dude that can attack by spinning around and teleport when sitting down or am I mistaken?
Don't forget that in Soul Calibur (Idk about Tekken) he can pogo bounce on his blade as well
one thing i remember is gunjack has a instant kill move that takes a considerably long time to charge up.
So, you have to survive until he arrives and immediately kills everything
@@CodaBlair yeah yep. Mo prizes for guessing that.
@@artlessauthorite well. He has had an enemy survive consecutive serious punches bevause they also broke their limiter
Basically you'd have to be like Mumen Rider holding out against the enemy until Saitama arrives (though I guess technically Genos helped too).
When you covered Frank West, I was worried you wouldn't mention Tatsunoko vs Capcom, but I was surprised to see it was the very next entry.
I wish Capcom would release that on something other than the Wii
Idea for a video, "Coolest rewards gained after bodying a boss"
I wonder if anyone's mentioned snake from super smash bros. That man brought grenades, rocket launchers, and a mortar to the fight. Loved his smash move that basically gave you a grenade launcher and the ability to give your friends PTSD.
In Final Fantasy Dissidia Cecil Harvey can switch between light and dark forms depending on moves you make either on the ground or in the air. As a dark knight Cecil works best as a ground base combatant and as a paladin Cecil works phenomenal and air based combat.
Gabranth from dissida is also worth mentioning here.
Nah, Kirby is basically Rogue from X-Men/Marvel fighting games.
@@sinteleon rogue becomes a rock and falls to damage you? She pulls a sword out of her ass to jump dive bomb? She steals powers but she doesn't suck anybody off (last i checked cannonically they die when she touches them)
@@SquintyGears We're talking about down B moves, not the rest of the moveset. Also, she kisses people to get their powers in the fighting games she's in, which can be considered sucking them out from her victims. (also Kirby doesn't suck enemies off, he swallows. Know the difference.)
@@sinteleon it was a sex joke way to referring to it... We all know how it works in game.... How does that level of obvious humor go over your head?
And i was referring to all of the B moves because all his A moves are just hits by default so boring classic. But all the B moves are transformation even before he steals a power. And he can just swallow you and jump off, float back while you plummet. Top tier tilter.
@@SquintyGears You missed the second sex joke I inserted in there. :P
Gotta talk about Voldo from Soul Calibur! Dude worms, crawls, rolls, explodes, and air humps. The other honorable mention would be yoshimutsu.
Surprised the tekken character wasn't mokujin. He's harder to predict that the turtles in Injustice imo.
To be honest, I didn't even think of Voldo. I thought of Viola, though.
I was really surprised Voldo wasn’t on here. He plays entirely different from anyone else in the franchise
He had a win condition that had nothing to do with the rest of the game as well. That character was nuts!
Including a Nidhogg fencer in Divekick was hilarious and inspired. So out-of-place, but somehow so well implemented too.
Phoenix Wright is a lawyer. He's the deadliest type of foe around.
"Until the opponent's life bar is empty"
Andy has cracked the fighting game code take em out
If I remember correctly, there's a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game where you can play as a bird, although nobody would want to play against you if you did because it's absurdly overpowered.
Well, according to the comment directly above yours, there is and its name is Pet Shop. It's pretty funny that both of your comments were right next to each other.
@@kylerivera3470 I'm talented like that
While all of these characters are very unique and complicated, I find the bit about Junpei the most difficult to understand because... sports stuff. 😣
As an avid fighting game fan, I could not understand his mechanics at all. Like, how am I supposed to know what a “baseball” is!?
I just press buttons and cool things happen, I like the satisfying THWACK of hitting someone with a bat.
As an American the baseball talk made some sense... Given that I don't actively seek out sports games on tv and watch them like most do.
Does nobody else think that dis on Lost Planet was undeserved? Besides the fact that I love that game, they made it into a whole trilogy!
Was that the game on the X-Box 360 on that Ice Planet? Yeah, i remember that, quite enjoyable. But i never heard about its sequels tbh...
Lost Planet 2 was my jam back in the day. Where else can you run around in mech suits and shoot giant bugs with a railway cannon?
Not to comment on the quality of the game, it’s top. But the third one did just get given away for free with games with gold. Previous month was Zone of the Enders I think!
The lost planet games were enjoyable especially Lost planet 3 it was amazing in my opinion
can we not call it a trilogy, it got 2 great games that deserve more attention than they got and a very bland and generic 3rd game that i know a lot of people would rather forget
Pet Shop in The Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fighting game, developed by Capcom, is extremely over powered. No wonder, because he's a bird and you are a human (or dog) trying to hit this thing flying over your head.
Ah, yes. The “joke” character that is actually just an accurate depiction of how dangerous the character is.
faust is his own archetype.
maids from melty blood(what makes them unique is being able to swap between the two characters for different assistrs)
Nero from melty blood actress again current code(he is in game as nrvnqsr) plays starcraft by summoning an entire zoo to attack the opponent
Gold Lightan is just Steve from Minecraft in Homer Simpson’s daydream about winning the lottery
The Dr in tekken honestly is so much better in tekken tag 2. His ability to booty scoot your opponent to death is funny and really too easy
Little sad they didn't show one of his main techniques: passing gas at the opponent.
Tag 2 worth getting? I grew up with Tekken 2 and 3 then fell off till 7 lol
The game becomes about surviving a 2v3 battle until Saitama can arrive and save the day
Bltiztank from akatsuki blitzkampf is the most weird/unique fighting game character in my experience
Bushido Blade, a game about sword duels, had one character that used a gun…
Doom.
So much for that famed diplomatic immunity!
Please make a commenter edition so you can talk about one of the cool yet weird Skullgirls characters
You forgot to mention that in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dr. B's fighting style to almost completely different but somehow also wacky and weird.
No way! I didnt expect to see P4AU in this!
For Tekken 3 I would have thought Gon would be the choice. A little dino that shoots fireballs amongst mostly human or humanoid fighters.
Considerimg Kuma, Roger, and Alex, Gon isn't that weird.
What about Amaterasu from Okami? She fights with her brush strokes and even some paw to hand action. And she's been included as a character in fighting games from Capcom.
Hey now, I for one really loved the Lost Planet series.
Big Band from skull girls can literally play a song during a combo, the ultimate BM.
Dr B was fun. I played against my little brothers and the challenge of figuring out his moves kept me interested in playing endless matches against them
That green breath attack when he's on the ground always made me laugh as a kid 😂
In Dragon Ball FighterZ, the character Captain Ginyu can call in the other members of the Ginyu Force to fight for him

How about Hornet in Fighters Megamix. It is literally the car from the Daytona USA racing game, and you can grind the opponent's face against a wheel!
Now I want a fighting game where you can play as GLaDOS.
You don’t attack directly, you alter the stage itself.
Amaterasu? From Marvel vs Capcom 3? shes such a good girl, and very deserving of a spot.
The Virtua Fighter series with Shun Di and his drunken fighting style
Another non-dr bosconovitch tekken choice: Mokujin doesn't fight like anyone else precisely because he literally fights like everyone else
It's also hilarious to see the thing get launched and suplexed by certain characters
He's from Akatsuki/EN-Eins
M.U.G.E.N characters: hold my beer.
(Tom Hanks, Kuromaru and Moorhun are rolling on the floor laughing)
Another unique thing about Gold Lightan is that his voice lines change if you pick one of his Silver colors.
How about in Tekken 7 with the dlc characters ? The addition of Akuma, Eliza and Geese, they are basically borrowed from different games and work as they did there, which is quite confusing for someone that has only played Tekken up to that point.
