What about the go kart in Bully? Completing all the go kart races took ages. Totally worth it.
I'd say the best unlockable I've gotten are the two invisibility rings in dark souls 2. No real use in PvE, but a ton of fun to troll with them in PvP.

Oh yeah? Well when you 100% complete GTA: Vice City you unlock a shirt that says, “I completed Vice City and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.” Totally worth it.

Will Calvert you also get increased health and armor, the ability to recruit bodyguards, and a tank... so shove it

In the Witcher 3 DLC Blood and Wine, there is a silver sword known as Aerondight. Given by the Lady of the Lake and only bestowed upon those who embody the five Chivalric virtues and best its guardian in a trial by combat, this legendary blade is, for lack of a better term, completely overpowered. So much so that when you start a NG+ run, all your other equipment will be replaced in the first hour, but as long as you keep upgrading it you will never find a better silver sword than Aerondight.
How do you upgrade it?

@@InsertEvilLaugh it gets one point of charge every time you hit something. Each point increases the damage by 10%, 10 points turns every hit into a critical. Kill something while you have 10 points, and the base damage permanently increases.

By far the best for me was in Lord of the Rings: Conquest for the 360. Beating the campaign gave you a new campaign in which you murder Frodo as a nazguul, destroy middle earth and sack the Shire litterally playing as Sauron.
That campaign was absolutely fantastic.

The Mayan Armor from Assassin's Creed black flag should be on here 100%. It made you immune to damage from bullets and firearms.

I actually avoid the armor because it makes an already rather easy game even easier.
...and since the sword fighting in that game is easy as shit it basically made you invincible

Given that said chasms are bottomless, probably none.
TerraformTrent technically we've never seen the bottom of said chasms. Maybe the thousands of Yoshi skeletons littering its hypothetical floors is too much for our mortal minds to handle.

In Pokémon Gold/Silver, you unlocked the entire map from the Red/Blue that ended with you battling the first game's protagonist. I'd say that, as far as end game rewards go, it's SUPER EFFECTIVE!
That's way better than the handgun that you clearly didn't need anymore in Dead Space.

That was more so a part of the game that was meant to be played. Playing through Johto was a breeze, with the only real challenge coming from Whitney, who would shit on you with her Miltank. Kanto was where the real challenge was
That was a part of the game, not some unlockable bonus. You literally play the story and then go to the next level

The Mega Buster in the original Dead Rising after killing 53,594 zombies.
Requires you kill the zombie equivalent of the entire town of Willamette where the game takes place whose population is only 53,594.

Yeah, I did a playthrough where I just killed zombies constantly to unlock it.
Once you have it, you always have it. It's probably the only way I could do a perfect playthrough.

@@raychelgonos224 yeah, it'll be in the security room in later playthroughs. I did literally no missions and just killed zombies for all three days and got the worst ending, but I unlocked the mega buster. Then on my next playthrough I was able to save all survivors and complete all missions pretty easy breezy.
The tie-in game for the first Spider-Man movie had one of the best unlockables in video games - beat it on hard mode and play as Green Goblin. Not just a new skin, an entirely new character with an entirely new set of mechanics that involved throwing pumpkin bombs, flying on a glider and running so fast you set the ground on fire for some reason. It also came with a new story (which was new voicework over the exact same cutscenes as in the main story, but hey, it's something!)

Ada saves Leon -> Leon saves Ashley -> Ada saves Ashley, but without all that annoying "Heeeeeeeeeeelp me Leon", "LEOOOOOOOON", "You pervert". Ada Wong is the real hero.
One old school unlockable bonus that's definitely worth it is ignoring the weight limit in the classic PS1 Armored Core games. You had to complete ALL missions, I believe without failing (as it doesn't give game over on a failure, but just racks up some debt). I would start from Armored Core 1 to unlock this, then import my save to still have access to this bonus. Even in the multiplayer! Bringing it all the way to Armored Core 3 was exceedingly rewarding.
Evelyn Valentine armored core is such an underrated game!
I believe you could also unlock it through massive debt that would make you restart.
You missed the most satisfying unlockable of all - Condemned 2's unlimited ammo mode, which allows you to literally bring a gun to a fistfight for the entire game.
We could extend that to several of the Resident Evil games because it meant "YAY! Unlimited minigun ammo!" in RE5.
Infinite ammo? In a game where you gain the power to scream at people until their heads explode? What a rip-off...

I like how most of the unlockables had the requirement of "murder all the things" and then "murder all the things but the things are more murdery than before because this is hardmode, nerd".
Best unlock had to be the RE4 Suit of Armor for Ashley. The worst element of the game was instantly solved! Tired of Ashley getting carried away? No problem, enemies instantly drop her. Getting tired of wasting health sprays and herbs on Ashley because she can't swat axes out of the air like you can? Solved, she's completely invincible. She even doubles as some comedy relief as she almost break Leon's back every time you catch her, just like the entire first playthrough of the game.
I thought it just looked really silly and gave Leon too much back pain. Hehe. Anyway, none of the extra content that first appeared on PS2 added anything good to an already excellent game in my humble opinion
How do you unlock a suit of armor for Ashley?? And more importantly, how the hell do you unlock Ada's campaign??? I've beaten RE4 at least a dozen times, and I had no idea there even was an Ada Wong campaign. But now I find out there's a whole campaign I've never played, *and* a suit of armor to stop Ashley from being annoying as hell. All I remember unlocking (besides the weapons) is a slutty costume for Ashley.

@@calvinlee8103 you unlock ada's campaign instantly when you finish the main campaign. You also unlock assignment ada, mercenaries, and movie browser. The wallpaper of the game also changes from leon and ashley to a moving view of the village. You also unlock the special costume 1 which is Leon's police uniform and popstar ashley costume.
Now, to unlock Leon's Mafia costume and Ashley's knight armor, you have to finish ada's campaign titled "seperate ways". This also unlocks the chicago typewriter for use on Leon's campaign. If you finish "assignment Ada", you get to use the chicago typewriter in ada's campaign "seperate ways".
So in summary:
Finish Leon's campaign to unlock:
-Special Costume 1
-Seperate ways (ada's campaign)
-Assignment Ada
-The mercenaries
-Movie Browser
-Infinite Rocket Launcher (just load the cleared game save)
-Matilda (also load the cleared game save)
Finish Seperate ways to unlock:
-Special Costume 2
-Chicago Typewriter for Leon's campaign (this only appears when you load the cleared game save)
Addtional info
-You unlock the P.R.L weapon if you finish Leon's campaign in professional mode (available for free from the merchant if you load the cleared game save)
-You can unlock the handcannon (a very powerful magnum) by getting 5 stars in every level in the mercenaries
I absolutely ADORED the Golden Guns in the original Ratchet & Clank. Not only were they a neat little reward for 100% completion, but if you finagled it right, you could get a few of them before you're even supposed to see them.
if only more modern games still did unlockables. instead its just DLC now...

@Augusto Cejas oh yeah. All the extra content is so much fun, especially the Mercenaries mode.
I'd like to add Doctor Bosconovitch to the list for Tekken 3. At first glance, he seems like one of the worst characters to have as an unlockable. Half of the time he's laying on the floor at the start of the fight and his moveset seems limited, but after reading up on what he's capable of doing, you quickly realize that this old man is not as frail as he looks. If anything, he's one of the more difficult characters to use technically.

As someone who got to meet David Hayter, the voice behind legendary Solid Snake (And I also got his autograph on my PS2 copy of MGS2: Sons of Liberty), the bonus of the 5th game is just so fun. The flashback to the original MGS just hits the old time players in the nostalgia feels and just gets lots of worthy fan service.

What about that unlockable ending in Red Dead Redemption that brings John Marston back to life? Wait... that's just a fever dream of Andy's? Darnit.
That's Undead Nightmare.
You only need to buy the DLC and finish the main quest to have Marston (and everyone else who has died) back in the land of the living.

The real bonus is when you are able to play as Jack. Because that is what everyone wanted, to play as the whiney child of John Marston.

One of the best unlockables I ever had was for Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. It was an endgame conversation between Ike and Soren where you reminisce about the whole adventures both went on including the prequel. It was a pain in the butt however to unlock it as it had a laundry list of requirements with each requirement also having their own requirements so the entire unlockable acted as a sort of Meta Unlockable.
To get the conversation you had to:
1) import a save from the prequel Path of Radiance where the save file had to have:
a) Ike and Soren having an A bond between each other. Not that difficult but remember you could only have 1 A rank bond per character.
b) complete Path of Radiance
c) make sure any saved file in Path of Radiance wasn’t on Easy difficulty or it would crash the import.
2) Save Pelleas. This required you to play the game once already in order to unlock a third option to save him.
3) Recruit Lehran. This requires you to:
a) Have the Black Knight played in part 1 endgame. Something easy to forget and impossible to go back to do.
b) Have Ike fight the Black Knight in 3-7 and have both survive. This is easier said than done as it requires you to either pump Ike with enough leveling (and some RNG luck) to level his speed stat high enough to not get double attacked by the Black Knight or having to use the Boots stat boasting item to bring his speed high enough. Then you have to meticulously move Ike through a map where you have to not kill enough of the other side to trigger the map to end early or for the map to end before you get to the Black Knight.
c) Make sure to view a cutscene event at base camp for Ike’s memories in 4-1.
4) Have Ike and Soren with A bond in Radiant Dawn (easy)
5) Have Soren part of the endgame group (again easy).
By doing this laundry list, you essentially unlock every other unlockable in the game because this requires 2 games and 2 playthroughs to achieve.
M8 that some long ass list of requierements, just for a darn dialogue, now thats some dedication right there, and i believe your comment deserves more likes and stuff just form that
The saddest thing is that both Tellius games are INCREDIBLY expensive, so barely anyone truly appreciates how good they are, :'((

When you finish Ada campaign in re4 you will unlock a damn good weapon called the Chicago typewriter.. you missed that
7 weapons that didn't return in Sequels which really dissapointed us.

Plasma rifle is in all halo games except for halo 4. The hornet is only in halo 3 and halo wars, same is true for the spiker and bruteshot (although the bruteshot has siblings in all subsequent games.) But, yeah, the brute weapons did get largely forgotten after halo 3.
Dinkle McStompWaffle Honestly to me is the Unforgiven Masher in Borderlands 1 which was a outstanding gun with the right gear and skills, yet in Borderlands 2 it came back yet was the opposite of being OP and was just terrible in every way.

The Bomb Arrows from Twilight Princess. It took till BotW to get them back, and they suck in that game.
Unlocking the cow costume for Kratos in God of War 1 was worth it for me. It was quite... amoosing.

This may be pretty obscure, but in the Warrior Cats New Prophecy game, you can get something called the Lightning Speed Seed through a post-story subquest. This made you go way faster--normally it would take you about three minutes to get all the way across the territory, but with that speed seed you could get there in SECONDS. This was extremely helpful, as that game has a torturous amount of traveling in it, especially in the many other post-story events.
Andy can always pull off the dry sarcastic lines so well. What a professional. I can't repeat most of what he says without laughing.
Unlocking Super Dante/Vergil in the Devil May Cry games is always nice. Having unlimited Devil Trigger is a nice reward after slaying your way through hordes of demons in style
Especially in Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition. If you didn't just use the cheat code to unlock it on the PS2
Zack except for DMC4 where it penalizes you for using them, making it impossible to get better than a C Rank.
The NG+ of Dishonored 2. In addition to the stacked runes for every subsequent NG+, you get to use both Corvo's and Emily's powers
Wolfram 1045 its not really an unlockable. More like, "Good, you completed our fantastic game. Feel like doing it again while being overpowered?" it's more a consolation prize rather than an unlockable.
Since you have to finish the game to... well unlock NG+ mode then by definition it is an unlockable, since you wouldn't be able to get it otherwise.
Also I don't think consolation prize means what you think it means. That or finishing the game was a bad experience for you.
Similar in Infamous 2 if i remember correctly, you could customize your powers between the good and evil ones simultaneously after beating it. (they occupy mutually exclusive buttons so you cant have them all though)
The Director's Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution had that as well. You could end up maxing out all of your augmentations and, after enough playthroughs, still earn enough Praxis points to break the game's counter.
John Shade it wasn't a bad experience, believe me. Its was fantastic. I've played through it about six times now. I said consolation prize because it wasn't really there in the base game (since it was added in an update later) and neither were there that many plans for it. Since fans began to complain that there wasn't a ng+ mode (neither in the original or the sequel), they kinda added it just to please fans. Plus, if we consider things unlocked after finishing the game, that way, some story dlc is also an unlockable becuase you have to finish the game to play it. And I wouldn't consider it an unlockable. Its more content in the form of stuff you have to buy. Yeah, its is an unlockable by definition but I dont think that's what they meant in the video.
There was Mega Man Anniversary Collection . You could unlock two limited release games. After beating the first four games you get Mega Man: Power Battle. After beating 5-8 you get Mega Man 2: Power Fighters.
Unlocking the sword in inter the matrix was my personal favorite. You have to go through a long hacking process in game to unlock it but it's worth it.
What? None of the "Ghost" characters from the Lego Star Wars games? Those guys gave you not only invisibility, they were the strongest characters and were invincible.

What about Pikachu's Beach in Pokemon Yellow? You needed to transfer your Pikachu across to a different game on a different console and complete a particular round with that Pikachu in your party just to teach it the surf move to unlock the mini-game!
Playing Mario 64 on my Nintendo ds was one of the best moments growing up on my life. I will truly never forget the moments I had with it and I’m glad they did this with Mario odyssey
for me its revenge of the sith on the ps2, the secret cutscene where anakin beats obi wan instead of the other way around
RE4's Hand Cannon. You have to move heaven and Earth to get it - five-star ranks in every Mercenaries mission with every character, and then dump an entire playthrough's worth of cash into fully upgrading it - but once you can swing that final Exclusive Upgrade, it's an "I-win" button in .50-cal Smith & Wesson.
The Chicago Typewriter (especially with Leon's pinstriped Capone suit) is even more game-breaking. With that monster in your hands, the only fights that are any issue whatsoever are the quicktime-event-based ones, like the first stages of dealing with Krauser and the U3.
Older RE games had amazing super-completionist bonuses, too, like gatling guns, rocket launchers, and submachine guns with bottomless magazines. Ahh, old Resident Evil... I miss the late 90's sometimes.
... The handcannon. I am proud to say I did unlock it, but I can't say how long it took. Of course, I was good at RE4, on account of having dumped hundreds of hours into it, but it was still hard.

RE4 was the only RE game I played that I disliked so much, I didn't bother unlocking anything. Once I beat it, I was done with that abysmal trash. Also the only pre-PS3 RE I sold when I was done with it. To me, anytime I've gotta hold a characters hand in a game (like rescue missions and shit) it loses respect points, and RE4 made the ENTIRE game based on this premise. Therefore it lost a monumental amount of respect points from me.
You can also use the ditman glitch to drastically speed up its firing rate, ripping through every boss in about two seconds.

In prince of Persia: Sand of time, you could get access to the original Prince of Persia by turning a lever to a special spot then breaking an otherwise unremarkable wall. of course the lever first opens the way forward to progress the story to try fool you into letting it go.
I love the hand cannon and the sounds issac makes are just hilarious what's better than killing the things that gave you nightmares by running around saying bang bang

I don't remember the exact requirements to unlock it, but Tomb Raider: Legend allowed you to wield Excalibur, an energy-issuing sword that basically made you a God(-dess?)
If i remember it correctly you just get it near the end to fight that monster thingy...or I didnt notice how good i was and just thought it was normal to get it lol

Oxbox's 2 millions subs unlockables - Dungeon and Dragon mode. Definitely worth all the hassle of cloning myself to increase your subs count!
The best unlockable is the one you get for watching every Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra video on normal speed- Unlimited joy

Shaidon7 you dont actually have to replay it twice the best thing is that you can beat the game on the first difficultly then reload the last save file and because that counts as a check point you are at the end of the game in your "hardcore" run
I only played with it for a few minutes. I was more interested in my 100% completion at the time to go along with my 100% from Dead Space 1. Beating DS2 with only 3 saves on hardcore difficultly is not for the faint of heart

You have no sense of humor. The whole reason to unlock it is enjoy the sheer idiocy of it. It's basically the game acknowledging that by beating it on Hardcore you made a joke out of the game, now you get to actually enjoy making it a joke.

For me recently, it was probably getting the shield weaver armor in Horizon. It was especially useful while playing on ultra hard seeing as without it, one well placed hit could kill you lol

You think the feathers were bad? Animus fragments in AC4 were way worse. Collect all *200* fragments and you'll get some emblems in multiplayer and a cheat. Nothing else.
No mention of the Abysal Armor that War gets in Darksiders which not only gives you better protection but also gives you some badass looking threads. As an added bonus if you get it on your first playthrough you can choose to have it from the beginning of any subsequent playthroughs making the harder difficulties that much easier.
The 'bang' and 'pew' of the hand cannon is the best part

How about the Freyed Blade from Dark Souls 3? To get it, you need to go through the effort of battling the optional boss, a giant fire breathing dragon known as Darkeater Midir, one of if not the hardest boss FromSoftware has every designed. Even getting to the boss requires getting through most of the Ringed City, a brutal area full of monsters, which in turn requires most of the game to be completed to even access. Upon obtaining the boss's soul, you can transfuse it into the Freyed Blade, a brutal katana which high damage, unique weapon art, and quick attacks. Certainly worth the numerous failed attempts it took to bring down Midir.
That basically describes every weapon in Dark Souls! xD
I'd have to say the Rakuyo is the best overall example of this, since it's in the last area of the optional, super-hard DLC, inside a totally optional area with no other reason for you to be there, with TWO of the hardest enemy ever (with no exaggeration) defending it!
Not only do you have to have defeated Ludwig (Arguably the hardest boss in a fromsoft game period) and Maria to get there, but the two Shark Ogres defending it are just disturbingly hard to fight, even alone! Having insane speed, highly unpredictable movement and move sets, ridiculously high health, and stupidly strong attacks that kill you in one, maybe two hits at most. The fact that it's two different variants of this enemy with totally different move sets that attack in perfect coordination and clip clean through each really maximizes the unpleasentness of the fight. You also fight the two (very large) enemies at the bottom of a small well, with no where to hide, get away, or cheese them.
However, the Rakuyo is arguably the best weapon in the entire game, especially in the hands of a very skilled player! I also feel like it makes a better example as killing bosses to make weapons out of them isn't a standard mechanic of Bloodborne, where it is in Dark Souls.
Emphasis on "skilled." If you don't know how to use the blood arts properly, you're toast in PVP. Still super fun to use tho.
I personally think Holy Moonlight Sword deserves a mention, considering you have to beat Ludwig, find his head, then either kill it or talk to it with the Church Set and answer yes. If you don't know to do this, it's possible to miss the weapon entirely.
Gonna point out rq you can get to the ringed city before even meeting the Abyss Watchers, the Deacons, or the Dancer. Sister Friede can be literally the second boss your character meets, and if you're really in it for the masochism, Midir can be boss number 4.
Not an easy run though, as it pits you against two of the four hardest bosses in that game before you have even the slightest chance to gear or level for their fights.
there's a guy who beat up NG 7+ Midir with a SL1 naked guy with nothing but fists.

one of them I feel should have been on the list is the battledress of the provocator from Dragon Age : Origins. Leliana's Song while being a stand alone adventure has a side quest which has you keeping an eye out for the pieces as you progress through this DLC. It offers a really awesome light armor that grants a Dex bonus great for Rogues but why I think it's best is the fact that it can also be a great early game warrior armor while you get that Rogue that 20 Str needed to equip it.

what about those dot mazes you can do in Pac Man World 2? They were unlockables and they were just a punch in the nostalgia glands with better graphics and cool themed stages for whatever biome you were in at the time while playing the main campaign of the game.

Resident Evil 4 had some of the best unlocks. The only other game I enjoyed unlocking stuff so much was DMC 3, I think the special edition.

One of my favorite unlockables was unlocking a complete port of the classic Lucas Arts point and click adventure game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis in Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings for the Wii. SoK was might have been pretty bad, but it was totally worth it to have a full Wii port of Fate of Atlantis. Probably the only time I've ever played an unlockable more than the base game.
The devils horns in Dead Sace 3, you had to beat the game, then go to a new game + in xclassic mode. It was essentially the hand cannon but when reloaded would play a sweet guitar riff and a "rocking out" animation.
