But 3x4 is 12 and the bracket means you should multiply there, right?? So how can it be 17??

8+3-3*6+2(3*4)
=8+3-3*6+2*12
=8+3-3*6+24
=8+3-18+24[Because,you have to do multiplication before addition and subtraction]
=24+8+3-18
=35-18
