TIP: before loosening, count the threads on the top tensioning bolt to make sure it's the same position after replacing the belt. Technically, the tension should be measured/adjusted to a spec after installation.

Thanks it worked saved me $200. The part $7. Free shipping e-bay. One 12 inch bolt to the tension bracket (first to loosen) One 14 inch bolt on alternator, and One 12 inch tension adjuster.

Awesome video! Followed your steps today and changed the belt. The old belt snapped while driving down the highway. Who knew this inexpensive part was so important!!!

Also when you take the belt off spin the water pump impeller to see how quiet or smooth it is....or not. If you can hear the pump bearing or if it does not feel smooth its on its way out. Based on some YT's I have seen the water pump on this model is troublesome. And there were 2 versions. Check with flashlight there is no green or rusted specks around that WP area that means the water pump is leaking coolant out of its weep hole and a sure sign its on its way out.

The long tensioner bolt should be lubricated before you loosen it up after removing the alternator stake bolt. Lubrication may remove the witness marks where it was tightened to so just measure the length of the end of the bolt before loosening it..

My top alternator bolt is stripped, not free spinning but loose. With the alternator already installed can I loosen the top bolt and apply threadlocker or will I need to losen the bottom bolt first?

wow the 2010 corolla uses a more reliable tension method hehe the older ones they had some lever arm thing with a piston spring load or something. this system is deisgned to need some service too like you mention the belt stretches and probably needs to be tightened sometimes.

There is a little metal notch on the crank pulley. Does the belt slip under that or over?
