So acc to SA where is this psychic heart within the body ? Behind the physical heart?

The psychic being for Aurobindo is the _hrdaye guhāyām,_ the inner or secret heart, the Chaitya Purusha, our inmost being. Yes, it is "behind the heart rather than in the heart"; he says this to differentiate it from the life-force, the mind, and the outer vital-emotional center. Its power is an "essential spiritual feeling." When it becomes dominant over the other parts of our being and free to use them, then the impulse to the Divine can be purified and completed.
Aurobindo also indicates it is "not above but behind" to differentiate it from the Jivatman or spiritual Self, the eternal truth of our being as changeless, self-existent, etc. The psychic being is the soul in evolution, it changes and develops, proceeding from and representing the Jivatman in the evolving forms but not identical to it. "When there is full consciousness, the psychic being and Jivatman join together." Thus he speaks of a triple transformation: 1) to awaken and live from the psychic being controlling from behind the vital, mental, and physical, 2) to realize as well the spiritual Self above, 3) and so prepare the way for supramentalization. (This is also why bhakti is so crucial in the integral Yoga, as that is the surest way to awaken the psychic, while realizing the Jivatman is more a power of knowledge.)
