Ähm did I just watch a restoration from a famous swiss channel? Man thats awesome camera and edit. The quality of your restoration is of course on point. Keep it up! Btw nice, that you realized, that the anchorage was attached in the wrong direction when you got it!
You should invest in a impact screw driver. I have one and it has saved me the head ache of stripped screws everytime ive used it. I got mine on ebay for around $25.
Thanks Christopher! I think its quite easy: I create content to gain a community, so take the effort to answer (most) of the comments and questions :-)
@@misterpatina you didn't even use the depth plate at 15:45, you just eye balled how much you wanted to cut, if the piece was the other way around, the cigarette would have stopped on that metal thing (depth plate). I think it was premounted correctly
I just crack up at Mr. Patina's dry and very funny wit, as well as being amazed at the fact I am forever amazed at the many concourse restorations and transformations!
The blade needs a great deal of sharpening and the depth gauge is on backwards but it looks amazing. Now all you need is to restore an old school table lighter and ashtray and your set!

Restoration videos like these are helping me to get through a very hard time, and ones that include a little humor like yours really help. Thank you for doing a wonderful job restoring these items, good film and editing work, and for adding in a little humor to what can be a very serious field of videos. You got a subscription from me, and I can't wait to watch the rest of your back log of videos and what you will do in the future.
Very nice restoration and great quality video. Looking forward to watching more of your content. I suggest making a larger, more robust, table for your belt grinder as it makes a huge difference and provides options for grinding and holding jigs. Replace the top "table" with (something like) a 100x50x10mm plate fixed with machine screws to a 75x20x10mm arm. I made a new fixing point by drilling an 8mm hole and welding a nut behind the existing mounting point, which i removed. Replace the bottom "table" with a 75mm length of 12mm round bar, drilled and tapped (M8) to 25mm and attached to the existing mount with an M8 bolt. I did these modifications to make a sharpening system for turning tools, but they have been of great benefit for tool restoration.
Cigar cutter looks fantastic. Very nice job. Four issues that could have been done better: Use a bigger cigar, use a fresh cigar, sharpen the cutter, and replace the cigar stopper properly. Otherwise, great job!

There’s some restorers out there that just sand everything down and it takes away the true look of the product. I love how this guy actually takes his time to do his best. Props to you man
Hey Mack, its nice you recognized! I think its such a nice thing to express your humor without talking or showing my face! Cool to hear that you can "feel" it :-)
I think the circular plate in front has been fitted in reverse 🤔. You first position the plate in front of the hole, push the cigar till it touches the plate and then cut it. The position of the plate decides the length of the cigar that will be cut off
Great work, but I agree that the blade should have been sharper. I was also surprised that the base wasn't bigger, ie 12 inches maybe, but I am not a cigar smoker so my view may be bit skewed. Nicely done, sir very nicely done.
Would have helped if you had put an edge on it. Plus you put all that hard work into it to use an old dried up cheap cigar on it. It looked great though. Never use grease on things like that because if you smoked would you want it on your stogy? Enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
You could do with an impact driver, one of the manual ones because it’s fun, that would have taken care of that screw instead of grinding it. Great video.
Love how the perfectionist in you made you turn the screws on the side back so that they align! Great job!!! PS: The stop is mounted the wrong way around; compare before and after 😉
Very good restoration. A few thing. Maybe sharpen your blade and the depth gage is definitely on backwards. Not being rude just some constructive criticism. Great job. Keep it up
You keep asking me to subscribe but that surprise pop up got me. Ok mister master piece, you have my subscription. Love your work man! Thank you for sharing.
Very great restoration. I personally would have tried to bring the metal to a super shine. But I think you did an amazing job, live watching your videos. 👌👌
Awesome work!!! Story: on a board you have 5 difficult problems only few people can solve and a simple 2+2 problem within the group. You solved all the 5 difficult problems and over look the 2+2. People will judge you for missing the easy problem and will never give you credit for the hard work you put into solving the 5 hard problems. Don’t listen to the haters. You continue doing you. Amazing work.
Great restoration but you should have sharpened the blade. You should create another video showing the sharpening of the blade. This resto is incomplete.
Surely the cigar stop is on back to front? As you have it, it does nothing, unless you want to cut a whole inch off your cigar. Replaced the other way around, as per its original condition, would allow you to ensure you only took the rounded tip off your cigar every time, without more waste.
Thanks for your comment, Paul! I first had it mounted the other way and it blocked the whole mechanism. You can slide it a little bit, I had it completely „opened“ after reassembling.

he put it on backwards.. that is the depth gauge so you don't cut off too much cigar.

As a cigar smoker I’d say the blade needs sharpened pretty bad but the restoration is great 👍🏻.
Thanks!
Was gonna say the same.😏
was also gonna say the same
Agreed. Also ditto on it being a great restore!
I agree as a carrot eater
The result is really great. Especially the contrast between the wood and the black metal
Beyond restoring things well, the effort to check your comments and accept critiques is quite endearing.
Thanks Christopher! I think its quite easy: I create content to gain a community, so take the effort to answer (most) of the comments and questions :-)
Looks like your depth gauge is on backwards. During the before/after shots you can see it reversed
Hey JT! It was premounted the wrong way.
@@misterpatina you didn't even use the depth plate at 15:45, you just eye balled how much you wanted to cut, if the piece was the other way around, the cigarette would have stopped on that metal thing (depth plate). I think it was premounted correctly
I tjink J.T. is correct. You cut cigars at the tip. The way it's set now, you wouldn't be able to set the gauge close enough for a proper cut.
Wie kommt man an solche Dinge dran, sensationell !!! Danke für den Augenblick !

As a new person to the restoration hobby, I am curious as to the blast media you use. At present I use glass beads but they are very slow.

Youre totally right! My mistake :-)
@@misterpatina you're not alone. I've many mistakes like this to my credit 😄😄
This looks more like a cutter used in the making of cigars, where they trim down the end you light, not so much for cutting off the end for smoking.
Even lined up the screw slots. Nice.
You noticed the details. Thanks Terry! 🙂
