but, i don't think that this video is 100% true, i don't really think that papua is forced to vote in the past, i think they're purely wanted to become part of indonesia. People in papua can proudly say I'M INDONESIAN nowadays, Papua is developed recently with the new government, they love to be a part of indonesia, until these kind of separatist movement called "Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM)" or in english "Free Papua Organization" appeared, and murdered some of the civil in papua! which is their brothers. The real question is, who supplies the weapons and operational needs of this OPM? that's the fckn Australia! Same as what they've done with east timor before, they bring a conflict at the internal of indonesia, so when this territory get its freedom, australia can colonizes them, and mining their crazy rich resources. Australia really wanted to be rich, but don't want their hands to get dirty, that's why aussie was supporting indonesia to claim papua, but now they secretly want papua to be free, bcs of its resources. We can clearly see the news that says some of american military caught in papua and jailed in indonesian jail bcs they're suspected being supporter of OPM. And i don't really think australia's army trained indonesian army, bcs we can clearly see the 2021 world's military ranking, it says indonesian military is above australia. and on the international military events, australia often got beated by indonesia. Positive changes have been coming to West Papua ever since the new President Joko Widodo took office. We've seen major infrastructure and social developments, not to mention the acquisition of the Freeport mining industry to the nation - ever since it was established in 1965, Indonesia only owns 9.36% of the total share - now it owns 51% - 10% of it goes to the West Papuan people.
So the image being depicted in this video is a result of mismanagement and neglect of the previous ruling governments. West Papua is a much better place nowadays - just ask the local folks there how much the current government has been looking after them in the last couple of years.

But to give papua 'freedom' is a hard thing, y'know sometimes being free is not always a good thing, take a look at east timor for example. So many things have to be taken to consider, rather than freed it as an independent country of its own, it would be more beneficial to improve their education and human development. Most Indonesians don't really hear much about it either, the news about Papua are not neutral. Mind you most indonesians don't speak English so they rely on biased media.
It's true that the the media in Indonesia could censor about this, but it's not exactly as depicted in this video either. Some parts of papua is unstable, there are separatist attacks, which is why there are human rights violation to begin with.

The two men were handed to the Indonesian authorities, taken out of sight behind a building and then shots rang out. I worked between Papua's indigenous tribes as a health officer and lived there for almost 3 years. Indeed Papua people are trying to get their independence from Indonesia. Sometimes the already super tense situation between Indonesia's military and the Papuan independence fighters get worse and it turned into a bloodbath. They would fight, attack and kill each other while trying to defend their cause. Even though i understand the reason Papua want to be free from Indonesia's reign, it is just heartbreaking to see all those deaths and destruction. It already look like a small scale yet costly civil war. Too many innocent citizens stand helpless between the two fighting opposition and they all ended up as victims.
Luckly indonesian goverment already sending the national guard to crush those pesky terrorist
