Hey everyone, here's the latest Honest Government Ad - which as always, was made possible thanks to our Patrons. Not many people have heard of GISERA - the alliance between five of Australia's biggest gas/fracking companies, and the CSIRO, our trusted and beloved science agency. But that's about to change hopefully now (*checks views*). And that's a good thing because it's extremely concerning when Governments allow the country's scientific agencies to be infiltrated and parasitised by companies which have a massive interest in playing down the harmful effects of gas mining and fracking - on the environment, our health, and of course the climate crisis.
The scariest thing is that many CSIRO scientists say they're unable to communicate their research fndings to the public; or to speak out about this bullshit for fear of losing their funding, or even their jobs. So I thought we should lend them a hand. Coz at a time like this, we absolutely need our scientists to be able to do their jobs.
In about a week we'll also publish the podcast companion for this HGA, so we can discuss this shitfuckery in more detail.
    💛 Giordano

I audibly gasped when you guys mentioned the NDIS thank you so much nobody talks about the independant assessments except disabled people it made me so happy that someone mentioned it even briefly. Also the WWF Australia gets paid money to have their logo used on stuff like unsustainable salmon farms which scientists are worried about

In my opinion this type of corporate democracy (see:Not Representative) is terminal.
If Australia were a sheep it'd already be garden compost, probably.
The thing is in Australia the worms are all so busy eating sh!t, they haven't worked out it's just donkeys who run the show.

Here is another nugget of awesome for BOM. The temperature and rainfall figures they report for towns across NSW is not actually accurate. They have a "near enough is good enough" approach where they just use the closest weather station or source of data and call it a day. I even know of examples of using one station ~100km away instead of the local one. You can tell things are bad when this kind of quality of outcome is happening. I'd tell more of this story although I'd be risking a lot to do so :-/.

I thought all the heroes were only in cartoons. Since seeing this video I have a real life hero/heroes. Thank you for speaking out about the corruption here in Australia and within government (the people who are supposed to be looking after the people).
You should do one on corporate tax. The tax/financial details of companies operating in Australia with incomes over $200 million is published on the ATO's website. There are several consecutive years of data published in Excel format. They show that while corporate tax is declared to be 35 cents in the dollar, the Australian government has put so many holes in the system that an average of only approximately 3 cents in the dollar is collected, from these companies, and that over 30% do not pay any tax at all.
While a corporation has a legal obligation to minimise tax and use any and all loopholes in the system, due to its legal obligation to put the shareholders interests first, the government does not have a legal obligation to put loopholes in the system and should be legally held accountable for these loopholes existing in the system and that they allow them to stay in the system as evidenced by the financial data published under legislation to produce an annual report of information about certain corporate tax entities.
You do the math. If you apply a flat rate of 15% tax to these companies alone, there is an increase in tax revenue of over $230 billion dollars per annum. That would be a over 50% in reduction of the official tax rate. It would also be closer to the UN's global corporate tax rate policy. The only problem is getting the government to be honest and collect what they say they are going to collect. As long as it appears to be legal to say that the corporate tax rate is one thing, but collect something radically different, I can't see how this will ever change. You should have to say that the corporate tax rate is what you collect and not some figure used to tick, lie, cheat, steel from, brainwash or confuse the general public.
