I've only just got round to watching your Felixstowe video yesterday & then this popped up!! Well done with the unicorn in the last one, you're definitely giving me ideas with these videos for my species hunt & also give yourself a pat on the back for consistently locating the flounders, it's nice to know they are still targetable. The dark side quip made me laugh & it's nice to know where your loyalties lay!! I'm really enjoying these local(ish) vids, well done!
Good luck on your species hunt Paul. I have been following your sea fish quest - I dug up a tiny goby last time I was bait digging at Thorpe Bay; but you actually caught one float fishing! I've now the odd caught flounder on most trips recently and there will be many more trips to the dark side soon! Thanks again for watching and commenting.
The only time I had success here was in my mates boat. Plenty of nice flounders & a few bass but from the beach, nothing & as far as I can recall, nobody else ever caught much. So we’ll done Rod, you’ve once again proved yourself a worthy fishermen.👍
Blimey Rod that takes me back to when I was a teenager! I used to cycle from Strood to All Hallows, dig lug at low tide then fish the tide up where you were on the first session. I sometimes staked a 6 hook long line far out at low tide then pick up the fish 12 hours later. They were always flounders - no bass in those days (1960s!). The fish were inedible due to the chemicals pouring into the area from the oil refineries so I stopped using staked lines. Always used a running ledger at slack tide and waited for the line to run out. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching and the info Brian. My father used to stake lines for plaice when on holiday in Seasalter at about the same time. I wanted to catch them on rod and reel, so talked my parents in to getting me one and caught a plaice and an eel first time of use - hooked!
Excellent work again Rod. A bit alarming when the tide appeared to surround you but probably looked worse than it was. Thanks for bringing us all this variety of venues.
Well Rod Not seen fog on the thames since i was a kid growing up on canvey .was a regular thing with the ships horns going Brought back memories. Must been errie casting into the unknown. Very enjoyable mate 👍👍👍👍
Hi Rod great videos. Me and Amy was fishing a match at Greenhithe yesterday and I noticed you walk by I wanted to say hello but didn't want to embarrass you shouting across. Didn't have much 2 flounders one sole which I believe got me 3rd place. Cheers Lewis
Yes - I was looking over the venue, then Ingress Park. I'l be looking to fish there soon. Now that soles are showing, it will be very soon! I didn't want to get in everyone's way by walking the full match length! Well done for your catch and result Lewis. Do you know what won it and is it 'safe' to use that car park? Thanks for watching and your comment.
Cracking 1st session on the rag, but bit disappointed on the 2nd mate.. Still good to get out en wet some lines... I've not been for 3wks due to work... Can't wait to get out smoothounds are showing locally... Always great content pal... Keep safe en as always gets the thumbs up mick.. 👍👍👍👍
@@rodsangleuk6283 yeah good sport pal get them down by me easy 14, 15 lbs.. Good fight. En also we get tope as well biggest so far is 30lb for me but I've seen 45+ caught en bigger lost.... Keep the good content coming rods 👍👍👍👍
Another good video, thank you Rod. Jealous as I seem to be stuck at my desk too much at the moment! Another venue for me to try out as and when I can get out of the big smoke...
40 minutes of calm and relaxation (for me) despite the somewhat eerie resonance and the somewhat treacherousness (for you) of the first session ! A very enjoyable video and, yet again, flounder target achieved. Congratulations! Looking forward to your next video...from the trailer it looks like you found the plaice. Stay safe and stay healthy. Cheers. Ken
Many thanks Ken - yes, after a long 'drought' I'm getting a flounder or two on virtually every outing now; but my attention has turned to plaice and soles - fingers crossed and the haircut can wait!
Another great video. It would be good if you did a video of what gear you are using and why you prefer it and maybe even a bait digging session. Maybe for a time when you can’t get out fishing, which would be a rare event as you are prolific. Keep up the good work we all appreciate you efforts.
Thanks Kerry - probably a while before I do those sorts of videos. I'm only a novice when it comes to bait digging! Thanks for watching and your suggestion though.
Hi my dear friend nices bass in my younger days I used to fish there with my dad and brother some good fish to be had after all these years well done another fun day for you one day I would like to fish with you if possible
I can't say I altogether enjoyed this session Rod. For the first third I was worried in case you took a purler scrambling over those slippery rocks (we're of a similar age and I know my feet can't respond as quick as my brain these days') and in the second third I kept looking back to make sure no one was pinching your gear you left near the ramp. Your sessions are usually soothing and therapeutic- but not this time ;-) Other than that, excellent as always. :-)
Thanks Alan. I think sometimes people worry a little too much! Yes, it can be risky stepping on to slippery rocks, but good footwear helps and there weren't too many around the Holiday Park - none that looked like thieves anyway! Although its better to be safe than sorry, no risk = no reward in my books! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi @trojanx2006 - a lot depends on whether its a neap or spring tide and if there's extra water (lag from heavy rainfall upriver) in the Thames. As a rule of thump, the tow is greater on the ebb, so larger weights may be needed then (~ 6oz) and if there is a lot of weed about, you may need leads with wires. Otherwise I tend to use 5oz flat leads for distance work and change to pyramid or star leads if I need to grip the bottom more. Close in a 2 or 3 oz watch lead is sufficient. I hope this helps; but generally you need a range of leads and adapt to conditions.
@@rodsangleuk6283 Thanks Rod. I fish Thorpe bay regularly from my hut and have recently been having some good size bass and flounders. I shall take this sound advice forward and see how we go.. thanks
You do have a chance if the water is clear. Personally I think its a bit too muddy. You should be able to catch on ragworm, especially from the points and wall heading towards Yanlet Creek. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I used to fish here back in the 70's and 80's..it wasnt uncommon to catch 30 to 40 flounders in a tide. Not massive but 2lb specimens were common. Its sad to see how our catches have declined over the years..As always a great 👍

Super video as always ...different angles, clarity, tips, even exactly where you are fishing .. always top notch info.
Many thanks Rods Stay safe.
Nice one @gazellis1961.
Geez, I thought you were going to fall on those rocks retrieving flounder, thank goodness you did not, great session Rod.
A little bit slippery, but not too risky! Thanks for watching Sheldon.

Hi Rod great video I found the best bait to use there is blow lug and maddies
Many thanks Simon. I've yet to find a good place for digging up maddies.
Hi Rod, please can you tell me what weights and oz you fish on the flood and ebb at Allhallows an Southend? Thanks in advance

What lengths are your snoods on the Sheepy rigs.
Hi - I tend to make them up in three different lengths - about 3ft, 18in and 9in ; although the tutorial might have different dimensions in cms!
@@rodsangleuk6283 will watch tutorials.thanks.
I’m at Allhallows , caravan owner, I can’t catch anything, I’m going to try lures next weekend, what you think?

Opposite where you live? Are you an Islander then? Or Leigh on Sea?
Either way, do you fish Canvey sea wall very much?
I can see Allhallows / Grain from where I live in Westcliff. I don't fish Canvey as much as I should and hope to put that right soon!
@@rodsangleuk6283 should come over to the Island late spring early summer, we've had a couple of years of good fishing with Bass and Thornbacks

Those were the days Andy. Thanks for watching.
Do I need a license to fish here?
There is a lake on the site that requires a permit, but the sea fishing is free and accessible by a public footpath.
@@rodsangleuk6283 thanks
Do you have somebody filming you
Thanks for watching Roger - no, I just move cameras about a lot and spend a long time editing.
Thanks Rod foul hooked fish always fool us.
Yes Gary - I think we've all lost fish that we think were massive!
