Well done for the donation to the stroke association Rod, my mother died of a stroke and dad of a heart attack, keep up the good work. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk 🐟🐟
18:30 - "...after so many schooley....a whiting makes a pleasant change..." - words you will hear uttered very seldomly... ...ever!! Thanks for the video, Rod.
Haha - anything other than a schoolie bass off Southend's beaches IS a pleasant change! A few years back I did catch a cod - of about 6oz! I'd just settle for a flounder now. Thanks for watching and commenting @Journey into Coco.
After watching a few of your blogs , you have a new subscriber today , nice to see good tech neck and some some who loves the fishing and has time for others
Good idea - always worth considering new rigs, you never really know what's best to use, unless you try things out. Thanks for watching and commenting again.
Enjoyed this one Rod, unlike me you go into meticulous detail about tactics & tackle, so many people can learn from your content! I lament the state of fishing in the Thames Estuary especially flatfish-flounder & plaice were a staple for many when I was growing up but they seem thin on the ground these days which is a shame as flounder are one of my favourite species, if not my favourite, I cut my teeth catching them from Thamesmead Promenade when I was in my late teens/early twenties & also from Southend Pier & the loading pier too, that's why I have so much admiration for the universally hated whiting!! I wait in anticipation for their arrival as locally along the Crouch they seem to be the only reliable source of action after a summer of Schoolie bass, it seems the two aforementioned species are the only fish found in any abundance to beat the crabs to the bait, although I know to my frustration that this is not always the case! It's also funny that different anglers have differing opinions, I've always preferred the flood to the ebb in the Thames Estuary but after watching this I might change my opinion!! Lets hope the smoothhounds make another appearance this coming Summer, I might see you on the shore trying to snag one, like I tried unsuccessfully last year!! All the best & keep up the good work!
I love your style of video as well; but I'd find it hard to make mine as entertaining, so have gone for a different approach! There are still flounders to be caught at Thamesmead; though I couldn't catch them the last time I was there, so no vid on that venue so far! Likewise, I've not had a decent session on the Crouch for a while. Yes, I missed out on the smooth hounds as well; but when allowed to travel, I don't fish our local area that much - need a lot of bait most of the time due to the high crab activity! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I spent a lot time fishing at the garrison in the 60s when I was a kid. Never caught much at all. I assume the Thames was more polluted then keeping fish away.
Another excellent video and a good second session; I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for your to pull out a flounder! I must say that your videos about fishing at Southend have renewed my interest in doing so. Now I just need to get up off my butt and do so. What's the parking like near the Boathouse? Cheers. Ken
Ken - I would love a flounder from Southend! When I first arrived here, that's all I ever caught sea fishing where I live - now I occasionally hear of one, but haven't seen one for years! There are two, free, official car parks in the Garrison / Gunners Park area - the one near the end of Warrior Square Rd. is the closest to where I was fishing and also gives access to plenty of other marks now fishable. Thanks for watching and commenting again.
Had a walk around that mark today was thinking how big a tide was it in November to come over the sea wall ? Hopping to hit there soon thanks do love that you do vid from down here
Not sure Derroll, other than it being a spring tide. I hadn't planned to fish there then - just had a look after shopping at Asda's and had my gear and bait with me and conditions looked perfect, so I couldn't resist having a go! Best of luck!
Many thanks. I've had one go last week on the Bristol Channel, but blanked along with the other 5 anglers at the mark I fished! I prefer to fish for them late in the season - February and March; although by then, the plaice are showing on the south coast!
Spot on as always mate. And brilliant that you are giving the proceeds to charity. Not many like you around. Hope there are a few more coming soon. Cant wait
Nicely done . Whiting are a beautiful fish. We would be lost in N Wales without them. Just adjust tackle to very light and a good couple of hours fishing at night. Odd bigger ones nice to eat. Shame bigger ones are so rare. Well done on numbers etc.
I don't think you can fish from here anymore - there are MOD signs up everywhere about no access and a very large fence, as its a QinetiQ live fire area and coincidentally lots of extraordinarily posh houses that probably don't want to be mobbed by beachgoers with free nearby parking! One of said residents was shouting at a kayaker who paddled by.
Not seen any for years - further upstream in the Thames Estuary you can still get small ones, but not many, just like the flounder fishing. Thanks fir watching Ryan.

Thanks Mike - hopefully forthcoming videos will generate income for the Stroke Association, as the ones to date have for the UK Sepsis Trust.

Have you ever tried fishing the incoming tide at Dymchurch. Never seen any anglers even try, but i am sure there are fish near that water outlet

How many cormorants and seals live in the Thames estuary? There's your answer why there's no flatfish.
I spent a lot time fishing at the garrison in the 60s when I was a kid. Never caught much at all. I assume the Thames was more polluted then keeping fish away.
I think plaice were around then. Its difficult now - avoiding a blank is the main target. Thanks for watching and commenting John.
Interesting video again Rod. Thanks for your hard work.
Thanks again Tony!
Thanks Rod always enjoyable.
Many thanks for that Gary.
As a southend lad myself hoping to try the sheppey rig looks interesting keep up the vids love them thankyou
Thanks Derroll 👍 Good or shy biting fish - I cover how I make mine in the next video.

Thanks for the Info...much appreciated.
Good video. Another area I’ve never ventured to.
Thanks Andrew - I often go there and really should fish there more often.

@@rodsangleuk6283 thanks that's cool
Thank you another great video, when do you start fishing for Codling ?
Many thanks. I've had one go last week on the Bristol Channel, but blanked along with the other 5 anglers at the mark I fished! I prefer to fish for them late in the season - February and March; although by then, the plaice are showing on the south coast!

Much appreciated MJC3811!
Good video Rod how far up the Thames can you you catch whiting
Depends on salinity - Woolwich I'd guess, if it hasn't been raining for a while in the Cotswolds. Thanks for watching Mark.

Hi thanks
No problem - thanks for watching Andy.

That's a pity - I'll have to check it out.
Hi do we need any permit for fishing and can u take a catch home ?
Free fishing - can take your catch if in size.
Do you get many eels anymore round that way?
Not seen any for years - further upstream in the Thames Estuary you can still get small ones, but not many, just like the flounder fishing. Thanks fir watching Ryan.
I had a small one this summer from southchurch beach but very rare
Do you need a permit to dig lugworm
Not that I'm aware of at Southend - you just can't dig within a quarter of a mile of the sea wall.
It like a good place to fish you had a good day I am hoping to fish on new years day if I can get some worms
Good luck! It's a pleasant location and, at times, there are a few fish to be caught. Thanks for watching Peter.
Like
Thanks.
Or down lol
Worth a try.
Keep it quiet - we don't want half of Kent turning up and plundering our best whiting, rockling and sea scorpion marks.
Haha - too late!
