Really miss the videos of the Western Flyer. Such a massive undertaking that I know was expensive. I hope we get to see some more videos in the future and you get funding for your dock renovation to give her a much deserved home. It was amazing to watch what you did with power tools and realize that it was originally done by hand .

Tough crowd commenting right now. Projects of this scale ebb and flow, so you can't make content of things that aren't happening. I appreciated the update on the truck and bus I love the idea of using the old vehicles in conjunction with the boat. They are craftsmen for sure. Like so many, I'm also looking forward to when things pick up on the boat. Until then I'll be watching these videos. :-) Nice editing Chase!

What do you mean by, " Like so many, I'm also looking forward to when things pick up on the boat"? What has happened? Has it been abandoned? How would you know? Can you give us a rough idea of when the pick up time begins?
As for decent people just wanting some info about the WF after a mere 7 months, how dreadfully impatient of them, what a "tough crowd" are they. And yet you say you're "like so many" of them.

Great video. Love seeing all the parts related to this project-the boat restoration underway and the stories about the real people behind the restorations (boat, bus, and truck), and the folks passionately involved with this vessel from the Steinbeck/Ricketts angle make these stories really wonderful. I can't wait until this boat makes her back to the Sea of Cortez! Staying tuned!

Fantastic choices on editing, the music, the totally uncluttered style... You know they're running a tight ship when all the dirty processes happen in the lean-to. Keeping things compartmentalized in a car shop is essential to the finite project. So many times (including here on YT) you see shops where it's all a mess of a soup, and then they wonder why paint comes out bad, or chips off in rust speckles after a few months of outside exposure.

I agree. As an old hot rodder I find it interesting how I've formed these beliefs, principals to such things. Yes, I'm observant of the "Rat-Rod" or "Rusto-Mod" theme which to me is just another persons vision of that which is "Automotive Artwork" in it's various forms. I love em all but am passionate of few but nothing but respect for all that pick up the wrench to preserve that which comes before us. I understand it, I get it and appreciate that it makes another fulfilled and I dig that. For me it doesn't do a thing, ring any bells. I look at these "finished" projects and wonder, what could've been. On the other hand, it's a 52" Chevy. It was never going to stand out or win beauty awards with a face only a mother can love.
I went looking, it seems those lollipops were an add on even back then. I get it, I put a set of fog lights on my 71' Buick 225. why? at that age I probably thought it made that 2.5 tons of 455 powered Detroit heavy metal cooler looking with me behind the wheel, no doubts about it. LOLOLOLOL... thank god there weren't cell phone cameras back then.

"Hey that's it, another chapter in the restoration of the Western Flyer." That's actually way beside the truth. I have seen 10 minutes of footage on the restoration of a pickup truck that was only faintly related to the ship. Not a single image of the Western Flyer and its current state. Saying that work is still carried out would be so much more convincing if you would show at least a minute of that. Just a short tour through the shed. It can't just be that seven months of progress, albeit slow, left nothing to show. That is, if work was really done on the ship. I'm starting to have more and more difficulties in believing you.

    • @klaasvanmanen8214

@@Hazeran69 This channel is about the Western Flyer, and we haven't seen a single piece of footage on that ship for over seven months. The Western Flyer Foundation depends on grants and donations. With that comes the responsibility to show that the money is actually spend on what is was donated for. The more convincing these videos are (showing that donations are actually spend on keeping the work going) the easier it will be to convince viewers to make a donation themselves. I was only showing Chris what it does to me when I don't see any videos on progress in over half a year. See it as a kind of advise for improving this channel.

@@grandenauto3214 What I'm asking for is to be open about the project, and I think that is in the interest of the project itself. We haven't seen or heard about the restoration of the Western Flyer for over half a year, without any update on the current situation. Was the shed closed? Did the team temporarily retire? Did the project run out of finances? Nothing at all. If I were a financial contributor, these things would bother me. I would want to know where my money had gone, and what the chances are for this project to finally be successfully ended. And seeing the lack of information, I would hesitate to donate anything, even though I sympathize with the project's goals. And I think I'm not the only person in the world having such feelings, and that this could potentially hamper the finances of the project significantly. Being a critic does not necessarily mean that one is unsympathetic towards this project, let alone being a conspiracy theorist.
And by the way: the title of this particular video is "Western Flyer Restoration EP 34". Based on the title, one would expect at least some footage on the actual restoration.

@@grandenauto3214 This is a public channel. I know Chris is reading the comments. The easiest way to express my concerns is to do it in these comments. That way I don't have to first put a lot of work into finding so called 'appropriate' channels, the challenge eventually maybe being too much, which might lead to not expressing my valid concerns at all, which would be a shame. Having a public channel also means running the 'risk' of viewers posting critical comments. It's how it works. I'm really supportive of the restoration of the Western Flyer, and I do hope it will succeed. Pointing out any weaknesses in the outreach to the public is my way of supporting the restoration.
You may have overlooked it, but my original comment is the one that received the largest number of 'likes' of all the comments made so far. I guess I made a point that other viewers shared with me. Runners up are comments that also express irritation about the lack of footage and information on the restoration of the ship.
