Beautiful knives and a wonderful connection to the F/V Western Flyer. Amazing timing to be going by the Flyer at the very moment that piece of iron bark fell off. So glad he managed to catch it. Thank you for showcasing this gentleman and his wonderful craft.

Dave is a true craftsman I love his shop. I’ve also want to comment earlier that you have put together a talented group of shipwrights, the youngsters are more talented than their age. This shows a passion for the craft of building and maintaining these wonderful boats.

I don't care what the craftsman does, what his or her craft is, he or she could be knitting a sweater for all I care. If he or she is a true craftsman I will watch it with respect and enjoy it immensely. Respect being the important word here.

In this crazy world we live in it is so nice to watch a video like this. A man who has had an honest life and is willing to share. I have no grumbles about my own life but I do look at the craftsman in boat building and restoration, the characters like Dave that you come across and I do drift and think what if I took another turn all those years ago. I’ve been a soldier, a sailor (domestic) I.m now a father and husband. No regrets in any, but if could be 16 again? Love watching these videos. Thank you for sharing.

This comment is not about the attached video but relates to the overall direction of the Western Flyer Foundation video content. Though I am interested in the purpose of the foundation, I was drawn to and hold greatest interest in the actual work of RESTORATION. That interest drags me through the side stories but I feel the channel would gain if there was more focus on the boat restoration now and a shift to excursions and adventures later. As it is, the content seems to miss what is important now while attempting to present what can't be captured until the boat is in the water. This might explain why other channels with far less resource have six times the subscribers. Your video quality is superb and the only difference is content focus. I believe the greatest draw to the channel is seeing shavings from rebuilding the Western Flyer and learning the personal back-stories of the workers who are building her. It's the people and effort that attracts. The overall mission may be noble but can't live without the soul of it's workers. This is of course my own personal opinion but I have seen this view of the WFF supported by many comments on other large boat restoration channels. Please take this as an opinion from a faithful subscriber who wishes you the best.

It was quite an experiance walking into the cupula building at Point Hudson that housed the chandlery and being overwhelmed by the smell of okum, pine tar and leather, the leather that Dave Ber used in his knife sheaths. You should order a sheath,it too is a work of art.His deluxe rigging knife had a matching pricker housed in the same sheath. He is a great knife maker/ artist.A Northwest treasure.
