    Even tough this is an indoor cam, I live in the tropics so I placed mine outside under shaded area. This is awesome for me as it was hard for me to justify the price of the Eufycam or any other outdoor homekit cameras. Fortunately there’s a wall socket near where I needed to place it so no need to concern about battery life. Next up is to add a powerbank in between in case of power outage. Very cheap but very elegant solution. Now to monitor it for a month before adding 2 more cams.

    • @Silentaudits7
      @Silentaudits7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comments but I prefer the Eufy systems as they are subscription free and both I and android friendly. Regarding the powerbank back up.... I have done that as well and seeing as Eufy are actually Anker i'm happy using one of my Anker powerbanks , a big one with 26800mah . The end result is cheaper than the cloud plans that are frankly a rip off. Eufy 2K Indoor AI on device camera is the bees knees .

    • @IskandarM_
      @IskandarM_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Silentaudits7 I noticed my powerbank cuts off once the device is fully charged. Does the same happens with yours? At the moment I’m starting to think that a backup power is not really necessary anymore but who knows I might change my mind again.
      I’m currently stuck in my home town for over a month due to state borders closed because of the pandemic. So I’m glad that I’m still able to remotely check my home while I’m away. The exterior camera occasionally alerts me of cats passing by which is nice to know that it’s working. The lawn camera lets me see the state of my grass which is slightly dried up due to no rain but the monsoon is starting this week so hopefully it’ll be back to normal soon.

    Thanks for the great video! I bought an Aqara G2H Pro camera based on your recommendation and am very happy with it. However, I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering please:
    1. Is there a way to automatically arm and disarm the camera when leaving the house? I do have a door Aqara sensor as well.
    2. I created a password for live viewing the camera. Does this only work for the device I set it up with or the password will be asked from any device that tries to access the camera?
    3. I’m using an SD card inserted in the bottom of the camera. Usually, the live view shows a solid dark blue for the period in which the camera is on. But sometimes the solid blue line changes to a series of vertical bars. What does this mean?
    Thank you,

    Hi, Shane! Again: awesome video, my homekit smart home is growing fast because of your videos! I’m planning to use 3 HomeKit cameras... I have a “normal” WiFi network that is holding a bunch of devices normally (about 20). My concern with the WiFi network is about when I install the cameras on the same network. Do you have any video talking about your network and the number of devices you have connected?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Sergio! I’ve mentioned it some in different videos. I made a video about a year ago regarding the mesh wifi system that I chose (Netgear Orbi). As long as you have a decent wifi router or mesh wifi, you should be fine. In most cases, people don’t start having trouble until they get closer to 100 devices on the network.

    Questions:
    1. What is the maximum size SD card that you can use with this camera to store video recordings locally?
    2. How many days of recording do you typically get when using continuous recording on the SD card with a card of that size?
    3. If you have both the Aqara Hub and this camera, can a child device that is attached to the camera still cause the alarm system to be triggered on the Aqara Hub?
    4. What is the difference between HD and Full HD video settings?
    5. Would it be possible for you to show a clip showing the difference between "normal" view (which has the fish eye effect) and the "lens correction" view? You mentioned that part of the coverage was eliminated using the "lens correction" view. I would be very interested in seeing exactly what that looks like.
    Thank you for another very informative video on this camera. I had already watched Rey G's video and ModernDayTech's video on this camera and I still learned a lot of new things about this camera that they didn't cover. But I will say that there videos are very good as well and are definitely worth watching.
    One thing that Rey G's video showed was how you can record a clip from the SD timeline and save it to your local Photos on your phone. Now that is an awesome feature.
    Thanks again Shane for all of your quality work and I am looking forward to your next video.

      Hi, Frederick. I bought a G2H and i think i can help you with some of your questions.
      1 - They say that the maximim size supported by Aqara G2H is 32GB (I never tried to use a 64 GB in it).
      2 - With the continuous recording on a 32 GB Micro SD i can record up to 5 days (24h/day) of content.
      3 - I don't use a Aqara Hub.
      4 - The HD and Full HD reflect on the data that you'll be using to stream the video.
      5 - You lost about 5%/10% on each edge/extremity of the recording area. It's not that much, but it's nice to be able to choose if you want to use the fish eye vision or the "natural, but a little bit cutted vision".

      I think Sergio answered mostly here (thanks Sergio!). To add on, I’m assuming that the difference between HD and Full HD is probably the resolution. My guess would be 720p vs. 1080p...that’s usually what that means since 720 is still considered HD.
      I believe the answer to number 3 would be yes, but I have not tested that specifically yet.

    Hi Shane. Great video. I live in China and have been using this camera for about a month now I think. There are one thing I've noticed when setting the days and times for activity recording. For some reason it will actually record on the next day. Like I set it to record on Mon, Wed and Fridays. However it will record on the Tue, Thurs and Saturdays. Not sure if it is just for me. Curious if you have seen this? (This is in the Aqara app) Then in Homekit, for the life of me I cannot get it to start recording when I'm away. It uses my Iphone as the away device but it just never records, even if all the settings seem to be correct. Set to record on activity detection etc. Is there something I'm possibly missing? Would highly appreciate any help. Thanks. And I just want to thank you for all your vids man. If it wasn't for you I would not have understood most things Homekit related.

      No, you are able to connect multiple Aqara hubs to the same homekit home. I have a G2H, G2H Pro, M1S and others all working in the same homekit home with no issues.
      I'm not sure why you are having trouble getting your camera to connect. If you haven't already, do a factory reset of the camera and try again. In some cases, your network settings may play a roll. Maybe disabling the 5 GHz band and ensuring you are on the 2.4 GHz wifi?

    Thanks for the awesome review. Curious, do you gain any functionality in HomeKit if you use the Micro SD card? Is there a way to access the continuous recordings from HomeKit rather than the Aqara app? I love using HomeKit, but am finding with these that it only records "Any Motion" or "Specific motion", but this doesn't necessarily mean it is recording throughout the day, so I have huge gaps in recordings. It also becomes even more limiting in HomeKit when you specify an activity zone because you reduce your recordings to only when motion is in your activity zone.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! No you don’t gain any extra functionality in homekit. Cameras that support Homekit Secure Video recording are limited to the capabilities of HomeKit. So pretty much any camera that supports HSV will have the same capabilities in HomeKit (although some may work better than others). So if you want additional features you’ll always have to look at the manufacturer’s app and support for that.

      It is hard to tell. I'd say if the packaging is in Chinese then it's certainly the Chinese version and otherwise would probably be international. Also, at the moment, the international version is only available in white. Surprised you can find it on Amazon. I would only buy from the official Aqara Amazon store...I would imagine they will only have the international version available there when shopping Amazon EU.

    So this camera can work direct within HK and not require the Aqara app to be used first or a separate hub - correct? If you had your choice - Aqara or Logi Circle?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct, you just won't get many of the extra features you get from the Aqara app if you use only with HomeKit.
      Hard to choose between those two because they are so different (and both very good imo). For Homekit Secure Video only, and you are not worried about anything else, I'd probably go with Circle View... it's just simple and works really well with HomeKit. Also, if you ever want to use it outdoors, then of course Circle View.
      But if you like some of those extra features from Aqara, local storage, and if you ever want to use it as an Aqara Hub, then the G2H is a great product. They are both good and have a place... just depends on what you are looking for.

    Hi Shane. First, thanks for your videos. I was wondering if there are any advantages of getting the Aqara Hub instead of using the hub feature in this camera? My Aqara hub just died and I’m wondering if I should buy another one or get one of those camera instead.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! The only disadvantage is that currently, the G2H as a hub cannot expose controllers like switches and smart plugs to HomeKit (Aqara app only). This is temporary, as I actually thought they had already solved this until I recently noticed. I’ve been told this will be updated in the first weeks of November.
      Also, I believe the G2H actually allows you to connect twice as many child devices. Aside from that, of course you either get a security system or a camera depending on which you choose. Hope this helps.

    Hey Shane. Couple of questions. Do the automations you discuss with other Aqara accessories only work within their app and not HomeKit? Also, you tend to give high praise to Aqara and Eve - how would you rank their accessories head to head?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the automations that I showed in the video, such as playing a ringtone on the camera, or start a recording on the camera, can only be done within the Aqara app. Unfortunately, that is a limitation of Homekit right now. I'd love to be able to use camera states in homekit automations, we just can't at the moment. In homekit, you only get the motion sensor from the camera for automations.
      Yes I do like Aqara and Eve. I really like Aqara for sensors because I like that they connect via zigbee...meaning they are fast and reliable. Many of Eve's products connect via bluetooth which means they can be slightly slower, as with any bluetooth product. And that extra second or two may not be a big deal for many products. But Eve's stuff is very reliable still and I really like their commitment to privacy.

    Good review Shane.
    I have one of these in my Amazon Cart. Can’t decide if I want to complete the transaction...
    With the promo code it’s plenty cheap, and possibly worth it just to use as a hub for future devices. BUT. I literally have zero use for the camera. I mean, I want HKSV cameras at some point in the future, this one being for indoor use only - I cannot think of any spot in my home that I would use it.
    Maybe someone has suggestions?
    Thanks for the upload. Keep them coming.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brad! You could maybe use it indoors just to cover an entry point for added security (pointing towards the inside of the front door)...just a suggestion. Or in the garage maybe? I’ve also heard that it works pretty well in a window facing outside, although I haven’t tried this. You’d just need to turn off the IR night vision if using in a window.
      Yea this would be good just as a hub if you want it for that. The biggest difference between the Aqara hubs, with one you’ll get a “security system” exposed to HomeKit, with the other (this one) you’ll get a camera. So it probably just depends which would be more useful to you for your setup. Thanks for watching!

      You can use both the Aqara app and HomeKit for recordings but the recording settings of each are determined by the settings in that app. For example, to answer your question, no, automations created in the Aqara app cannot initiate recording in HomeKit. HomeKit recordings are based on the recording settings you set up in the Home app.

    Hi Shane. Love this camera. I have a hard time adding bridged accessories to HomeKit. I can easily pair them to the camera with 3 presses on the camera button and they show up in the Aqara app immediately. However they do not appear in HomeKit. If I remove and re-add the camera to HomeKit the already bridged accessories do show up, but not new ones. Any suggestions on how to get new bridged accessories appear in HomeKit? Thanks

      Hey Daniele, I haven't experienced this problem yet. Which accessories are you trying to connect to the camera hub?

    Does the IR night vision come on automatically at night? Or do you actively need to switch IR on?

      You can turn it on/off manually or set it to auto on/off.

    Can you recommend to use this camera as a baby watcher? Just to watch live video
