    Apple recently changed the number of cameras it support for recording HSV, the 200GB plan now supports 5 cameras and 2TB now support unlimited cameras, your guess was right 10 months ago Shane!

    This is a really cool option, hope they bump those camera numbers up.
    What would be amazing is a wired camera system with a DVR and can run through HomeKit, that way it's using HomeKits advanced features and the feeds are accessible but it's stored locally and would allow more cameras.

    Look forward to your videos every Sunday. Have four Logitech Circle View Secure cameras. I also have a Hue Smart switch connected to each camera as well as my Apple TV in case I need to reboot them remotely when away from home. And I fight with my Ecobee thermostat and Rachio. Very good video, thanks. However you did not touch several questions: 1) How many seconds are the clips when motion is detected? If motion is persistent, does it start additional clips, continue the first one or just shuts off the clip while motion continues? Assuming a good internal connection how quickly does the video takes to be transferred to iCloud from iPod mini to ensure it is secured in case somebody tampers with the camera or power?

    Shane, are you still using the Aqara doorbell cam? or what other front porch cameras are you using? With the Aqara, did you add the doorbell cam to your Aqara app? It seems if I do that, then I'm giving Aqara access to the video feeds and destroying the security of HomeKit Secure Video? Thanks!

    As always a great video! I use the Eve Cam for indoor, but wish I could control the state in scenes. Just having the options of away or home is nice, but would love to have more granular control of the camera being off, streaming, or streaming and recording along with other automations (e.g. Bedtime Scene)

    Another great and informative video.
    You may want to pin a comment about the current maximum HKSV resolution being 1080P. I am sure that has something to do with the amount of storage Apple is willing to allow you to have based on your iCloud storage account, even though the actual physical storage on your iCloud account doesn't count against your storage quota. I would like to see Apple give people the option to pay more on a plan where you can then record at a higher resolution (2K, 4K, et cetera). Then for the majority of people that only want to do 1080P, they have that, and for those that want more resolution, they can have that as well at a more premium price. They already do that pricing model with their hardware line (Pro versus non-pro).

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Frederick! Yea good point, I forgot to mention about the max resolution being 1080p for all HomeKit cameras.

    • @JohnVanderbeck
      @JohnVanderbeck 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wish I had known that before I bought the EufyCam2 which is 2k. Would have been better off with the 1080p version. Then again I can't get the darn things to actually connect to HomeKit anyway so I guess it doesn't matter :(

    Great Video Shane...I'm a fan of your channel. I hope Arlo moves to HomeKit Secure, even though it might compete with their own cloud subscription service. I like the Arlo cameras a lot and I'm so glad that they finally allowed the wired Arlo doorbell to be HomeKit compatible. Do you think Arlo will make these changes? Keep up the good work 👍🏻

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Frank! I'd love to see it, but like you said, I think HSV competes too much with Arlo's own subscription service...which I think is a big part of their business model. So I'd be surprised if Arlo ever starts supporting HSV.

    Would you know how to get a notification from the camera/motion sensor only when the security system is in night or away mode?
    It seems like you can only activate it or not and it sends you notification on every movement even if you are at home

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cristiam, thanks for watching! No, unfortunately that isn't a feature native to HomeKit. You can choose to get notifications at specific times and/or when certain people are home or away. But not based on the security system mode. That is something I hope Apple builds into homekit... more integration with security modes of some sort.

    Hello Shane thanks for all the great HomeKit videos , been really helpful , just an quick question on the Logi circle view , I’ve bought 2 and they work amazing , but sometimes they dont record when people came to the door or even record anything , but setting is all correct , have you came across this issue ? I have home hub of 2 Apple TV , 8 HomePod,and 2iPad , does this affect this issue ?
    Sometimes i find is more stable under the hub of Apple TV not sure if this is the case, thank you for you time to ready this , once again thanks for all the amazing video you have created ! Thanks

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Han. I have not come across that issue. My Logitech cameras seem to do a good job at recording motion. In theory, having all those homekit hubs shouldn’t be a problem, but it is possible I suppose that it causes some issues. I’d turn OFF the option to use the iPads as homekit hubs. You can try to turn off one or both of the Apple TV’s as homekit hubs too and see if it helps. Unfortunatly, we do not have the option to choose on the homepods...they are automatically used as hubs. Another thing I do when trouble shooting is to restart all of my homekit hubs. Hope you find something that helps. Thanks again for watching!

    Hi Shane, I do quite a lot of smart home research and I didnt find an answer. I hope you dont mind me asking you, but you are in my eyes the authority for Homekit :). My question is: can I configure a smart button as a doorbell and let homekit ring a sound on my homepod mini’s? Since there are no wireless doorbell cameras with homekit support yet, this would be the next best thing in my opinion. What is your thought?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can, but it's not the best solution. You can create an automation that says, when a HK button is pressed, play audio on your HomePods (choose a doorbell sound from Apple Music). However, this isn't ideal in my opinion because 1) it will interrupt anything playing on your HomePods and you can't go back since it looks at the doorbell sound as any song, and 2) the audio/homepod automations can have a slight delay..not good for a doorbell.
      What I used for well over a year, was a simple Aqara wireless mini switch with the original Aqara Hub. The button is exposed to homekit so you can always use it in your HK automations if you want, but you can also configure the button to make a doorbell sound on the Aqara Hub in the Aqara app. Works great.

    Hi, thinking about the iPad you have in your wall to control HomeKit, do you think that maybe there is some way to make a shortcut or automation, to turn on a smart switch when the battery of the iPad get at 20% to star charging it and turn it off when it gets to 100%???

    • @ShaneCreates

      Yea you can do that by creating a personal automation on the iPad.

    How do I add people to "Known to Household"? On my HomeKit, it stays at ZERO people known. My Netatmon cameras are HomeKit Secure Video compatible, I run iOS 16.2 My plan is iCloud+ 200GB, and my photo album has the names for many family members, so I'm stuck...

      Ok, I now have 2 people, I need to wait for them to be seen at least one time so they are added to "Known to Household". HomeKit won't let me add all faces from faces album.

    Hi Shane, how do I store the recordings in the SD card. Thanks

    • @ShaneCreates

      Only some cameras support local storage on SD cards. That is specific to the manufacturer of the camera and all settings and management of that local storage (if available) is handled through a manufacturer's app.

    If a person was to move very slowly, like under one inch per second, could that person avoid detection by the "people detection" feature of HomeKit Secure Video? Or what if the person was walking up to the door with a Halloween costume (eg, a horse head). Would that trigger an animal detection alert or a human detection alert?

      I haven’t tested this but I’d imagine a horse head costume would not trigger animal detection. It would probably still either register as human, because of the general shape and movement, or just as general movement (uncategorized). Again, just my assumption.

    • @TheNameOfJesus
      @TheNameOfJesus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShaneCreates You'll be the first to test, and the first to post results. I really don't know exactly how the hub detects humanity or animality. A gorilla suit would be great, in fact I considered using the gorilla as my animal instead of horse when I wrote my post. It would be hilarious if you had to "walk like a gorilla" to trigger animal detection.

    I was looking for an outdoor camera to keep an eye on my dogs in the yard when I'm not home. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe Tried a different one that was absolutely terrible, so I got these instead. They work perfectly! With 3 of these cameras I can see every corner of the yard, and they were very easy to set up. The best part is I only get the footage I want to see, not hours of videos of the bird feeder swaying in the breeze.
