    Lovely to see a review from somebody who has really worn and put a pair of boots to work.

    Honestly the most comfy approach shoes I've ever owned. Only downside and the reason I am not buying them anymore: the sole was worn out after only 6 (!) months. That's too short for what they charge for a pair.
    pro-Tipp: size up, they run pretty small.

    Been wearing them for a fair few years now and gone through many pairs. Two years ago I bought a gortex lined pair and the ones that aren’t. Interestingly the gortex ones are lasting so much better. Huge difference. I’ll be buying the gortex ones from now on.

      They're really sticky aren't they? I went out in my old clunky leather hiking boots the other week and did some impromptu scrambling and I was slipping everywhere, such a huge difference.

    Bought myself a pair of TX4 shoes on the strength of your review. Looking to get up to Snowdonia next month to try them out.

      I'd like to know how they perform on rock, the tread on the sole look quite chunky. Let me know how you get on.

      @thebaldscrambler been using them on limestone here in the Dolomites. Really grippy and very comfortable. Like them better than my TX4s

      @@clogsonthemountain Very stiff... Ok for big edges but no good for slabby smears. TX5 is a mountain hiking boot, not a scrambling. And they're even hotter in summer

    • @clogsonthemountain
      @clogsonthemountain 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TG-pd3ft the ones I've got are not boots, approach shoes and have been able to smear them on my latest 5C

      @@clogsonthemountain Really? Wow, are they a bit firmer? They look more solid in the pics I've seen. Have fun out there.

    How do they perform on significant road sections of the trail? Also are they comfortable for all day wear?

    Thanks a lot for the review. The only problem is that they don’t sell half sizes in shops like Gooutdoors/Blacks etc. I plan to buy them for few long distance trekking, would you recommend them for this kind of activity as well?
    Little update, I tried them and they feel amazing. How is the waterproofing in your opinion? Also don’t your feel hurt on longer rocky paths because of thin soles?
    Really appreciate your comment.
    Many thanks again.

    I need to buy shoes for rocks and cliffs, I went to try those but i tried bang on my size and the toebox was so tight not wide enough. Is there a wide version and if it is i did not know. For rocks many people say this is one of the best shoe there is. I might check a size up.

    What would you recommend for the Wainwrights i love scrambling but there's also alot of sharp scree on a the routes at the lakes. Ive just ordered some scarpa similar to yours im hoping the stiffer sole will be more suited to that terrain

    How long would you expect them to last ? Got 2 years from Hagloffs !

      The upper part is quite long lasting and made of great quality materials. I doubt the sole will give u more than a year. Mine were worn out after 6 months.

    how much space do you keep between your toe and toe box for approach shoes like the tx4 when scrambling? Do you go a tighter precision fit or a more comfortable hiking fit with a thumb width space between your toes and toe box?

    Correct me if I am wrong, but TX5 looks a little more narrow than TX4 - is this true?

    • @thebaldscrambler
      @thebaldscrambler  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the TX4 has a wide sole and is about 12mm wider than my Salewa Wildfire 2 shoes, both size 11.5 UK.

    2:20 sadly the dreaded Goretex is not optional on the boot version. Hot feet are obligatory.
    5-10 if you're watching, please bring back the Camp Four non-GTX boot which was so perfect! No decent non-GTX scrambling boot currently exists

    Absolutely love these approach shoes. But the LACES !!! They snap, snare, scuff and break FAR to soon. La Sportiva can/could/should re-design the laces and they would last longer. I always carry spare laces and have had to create ways to cut and tie the Orange 'side laces'. Either and both have failed on every pair leaving me to engineer with replacement laces.

    • @thebaldscrambler
      @thebaldscrambler  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was worried about that when I first looked at them but so far, my laces are intact. Lucky me!

      I’ve had the laces break in the middle of long hike/scrambles in Red Rock near Las Vegas on 2 occasions on a pair of low top TX4 and TX2s. Luckily the first time I saw they were iffy so I packed some laces and will never leave home without extra. Otherwise the TX series are amazing shoes. I have the TX2 evo leather and laces have been good so far and although I love the shoe there’s just not enough support so I’m one hike/scramble in with the TX4 mid GTX and they felt great although I miss the better edging.

    Goretex is terrible for boots. Hot and unreliable as you mention. However, I cant seem to find these without..
