    excellent boot but very short living (lasted about 250 - 300 km on the hard Greek mountainous terrain). but as far as they last they have the best grip (it is an approach boot not a backpacking boot) and very good fit. they come only in the hi-cut version. keep in mind that there isn't a resole kit for the TX series. if short living is not important for you, go for it and you will not regret it. I own TX2, TX3 and TX5

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi George, thanks for your comments, those gnarly Greek mountains are a test for any boot and there's always a compromise between excellent grip and longevity; much like car tyres. I'm sure that the lovely people at Lancashire Sports Repairs (lancashiresportsrepairs.co.uk/) would be able to offer a repair/re-sole. Paul.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      La Sportiva do offer a Mondo Point conversion chart for their sizes and based on that it would suggest you would be a EU42.5 - EU43 depending on how roomy you like your boots to be. Our best recommendation would always be to try on a pair in a physical store if you can, you can be more guided on the fit by the store team that way to help ensure a good fit or possibly an alternative boot if the TX5 isn't suitable.

    I really love your video reviews. I just bought 2 pairs (for my wife and me), to be used in Villarrica's winter season (volcan trekking, a bit of early snow, mud, wet grass, rain, etc.).
    Her pair is working flawlessly, BUT my pair has turned out terribly made. After only a 1 km trekking on snow and rain, and a bit 2 km on wet grass, my boots started to fail: glue tear off, wet shows on the "leather area where the 360 rubber covers the boot".
    2 days of use and this happens. I feel so dissapointed at La Sportiva. These are supposed to be excellent quality.
    On Monday I'll have to cross my fingers for support where I bought them here in Chile (Santiago, 800 kms away from Villarrica) but in the meantime I am stuck with theses boots until I can find another store in Villarrica selling better quality outdoor gear. A real headache for my vacations and family trekkings and lake trips.
    If you do know of anyone in La Sportiva who could really understand and help me solve this in Chile, I'd really appreciate it, man. So far, all the reviews I've read on the Chilean forums, everybody is unhappy with support.

      Ahh no, that's a shame, and a weird one. A few of us in Trekitt have personally used these and have never had any issues with quality or longevity. Hopefully it's just a one-off. The TX5 GTX looks stiffer/firmer than the TX4 GTX. Is it true? Would you recommend the TX4 over the TX5 for hiking, hill waklking and backpacking? From what I've seen so far, the TX4 seems to have an even roomier toe box and the Megagrip sole seems to be even more aggressive and grippy.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The TX5 is a little stiffer than the TX4, although much closer now with the TX4 Evo which is pretty much the same stiffness as the TX5 (by no means a stiff boot however). The TX5 is their primary hiker in the TX family, the TX4 is more aimed at approach and rockier terrain, the TX5 has a deeper lugged sole that is better suited to shedding mud and wetter conditions, whereas the slightly flatter lug profile on the TX4 suits rockier terrain better where grip is crucial. Both use Vibram Megagrip, but the differences in the sole design lend each one to slightly better performance in different areas, but both will cope just fine with what you can throw at them.

    What a great review I’ve got tx4 mid just hiked in the dolomites to 9000ft what a boot. Would the tx5 be a slightly softer impact ?
    Jason

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you had a great time in the Dolomites with your TX4's. The TX5 has a slightly stiffer shank than the TX4 and has a deeper lugged sole that can make it better suited to wetter/muddier terrain. There is a little more midsole cushioning on the TX5 too, but overall with that stiffer shank they feel pretty similar.
      If you otherwise get on with your TX4 you could look into replacing the stock footbed with something from Superfeet or Sidas that would offer more impact protection. But we think you'd love the TX5 too if you did decide to go for a pair.

    I've tried these on in another store and they were incredibly comfortable and very lightweight. A friend of mine has the low-cut shoe version and is very complimentary on the grip of the soles. My only dislike was the laces. Too thin and hard to tighten, compared to what I'm used to.

    Hi,
    I am dubious between TX5 and Trango tech leather GTX.
    Wich of the two are better for mountaineering (Julian alps in Slovenia and Dolomites Italia mostly), rocky paths mostly under the treeline, wet, mud and above the treeline, but no hard core alpinism ?
    Let's say do it all allrounders.
    Thanks for answer.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tough call as they're both great boots. The Tx5 are softer and will have the edge in the wet and muddy sections, but then the Trango will take over on the rockier paths thanks to the stiffer shank. The big one for us would be whether you ever planned on using C1/2 crampons, in which case the Trango is the obvious choice, otherwise the TX5 are firm favourites here with Team Trekitt.

    Hi there. This review (combined with Cotswolds review on the TX4), pretty much sold this type of multi purpose boot to me. I like the idea of a lightweight, waterproof hiking boot that’s hard wearing, good for a bit of scrambling and all sorts. I realise this review is a few years old now, so wasn’t entirely surprised to see that you no longer stock this boot. What would you say is the next best similar boot that you stock? I realise I should get a proper fitting, however I genuinely find that most size 11’s boots fit me just right as I’m a 10.5. Thanks

      If the TX5's got you out and about and enjoying yourself, I reckon that at 30p per mile they were well worth it. It's pretty much 27cm, give or take a few mm. I would try a few pairs on if you can, as length is only one piece of the footwear-fitting puzzle. The length may be okay but the width, height and overall shape may not be compatible.

      I personally wore my usual size, but everyone's feet are different so I wouldn't recommend going up by a particular amount. If possible, try them on in person; it'll make a world of difference. Harry

    Great review. Going to purchase them now as my all rounder. Hate not trying them on first but nowhere in north east stocks them. I do however wear TX4 trainers, trango and nepal boots in 46 which all fit great so guessing these wil fit the same. In your experience arecthey a fit common with Sportiva?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, the TX5's share the usual La Sportiva fit, so I'm confident that they will be fine for you. Thanks for watching. Paul.

      Also Paul, I notice you don't stock a Womens TX5 GTX but they do exist. Is the women's version just colour options? Is there any reason why a mens TX5 GTX would not be suitable for a women? Thanks

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glyn. There are more differences than just the colour, the overall shape of the women's boot is different to men's. However, that does not preclude a woman wearing a man's pair, or vice-versa. The best boot for any foot is the one that fits correctly. My advice is to find a specialist retailer (once they're open again) and get yourselves a proper boot fitting! Paul.

      They're fully waterproof thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane, plus the outer fabric features a water repellent coating for greater breathability and weather protection. Kind regards, Harry.

      My feet got wet to the bone in a extremely wet forrest hike. I have recently sprayed the boots with goretex labeled water repellent after cleaning, since then been out on the snow and also heavy mud and some rain and no leakage. The fabric on the top of the foot, where the laces are is critical, and is the first to let water through iMO. I have this pair for a year now and I absolutely love them.

      Why on earth they put the faster wearing mega grip sole on this (TX5) shoe when the same sole is already on the approach shoe (TX4 ) I do not know. So if your a proper trekker (Wainwight Bagger etc) these will wear out too quickly. Shame as the TX4 caters superbly for Scrambles, Ridges etc.

  • @jeffries848
    @jeffries848 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a pair of TX4s. Are these basically going to feel like high top versions of them or are they considerable different in the toe box? I tried on a pair of TX2s thinking they would feel similar just less burly but the toe box was completely different.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The TX5's are stiffer, more supportive and slightly wider in the toe box. If you're after a higher version of the TX4, we stock the TX4 mid (www.trekitt.co.uk/35481/products/la-sportiva-mens-tx4-mid-gtx-carbon-flame.aspx), or alternatively we stock both TX4 and TX5 variants in our shop in Hereford where you'll be able to try them on.
