    I am so so glad I found your video. After trawling through videos, gotta say I was getting pretty sick of dude-bro's giving me camera info. Breath of fresh air to hear your voice! Everything you said was straight forward, no time-wasting, everything was relevant. Thank you, Nice Lady!

      @@NiceladyproductionsCanada No thank you, I got a lot of useful information from your video, not like every other camera geek drooling over the camera, which I would probably do if I had hands on this eqipment. 👌🏻👍🏻

    You're such a great reviewer, well done honestly. I was going to buy this camera, but it was 7-9 months till I would receive it, and it was a bit pricey. I recently bought a gh5 and am enjoying it, but yeah... having a red would have probably made selling my videography services a bit easier lol. looking forward to episode two and yay for being in Canada!

    The stuff you said about ISO applies to every digital camera ever made. It should also be important to mention that your discussing it with the intention of shooting raw. If you're not shooting raw, you will still want to raise the ISO, as that "video" feed you mentioned will be the image you are recording into the non-raw file, the exposure getting baked in.

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada
      @NiceladyproductionsCanada  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the exposure on RED cameras is only dictated by the aperture, not the ISO. The ISO exposure only impacts the "look" that can be changed in post. However, some people argue setting the ISO to 640 or 1000 vs 800 gives them a cleaner image in post to work from. The camera however is always recording the RAW file at ISO 800, which is why you can change it in post without it ruining the files, unlike cameras that don't shoot raw.

      I've noticed there aren't a lot of RED reviews in general, maybe people are too busy filming with them or owners don't do reviews. The cameras are pretty complex, which is why my entire review is 28 minutes long. LOL

    Nice review, looking forward to part 2. Just a quick note, the 18-35 will hold focus through the range of the backfocus is accurate, Red's EF mount is of course a third party EF mount and is more than likely off. This is pretty common, the metabones adapters are also out. I know one company makes behind the lens ND filters for the Raven and provides shims to alter the backfocus to compensate for the change in FFD from the ND filter.
    My GL Optics 18-35 required my PL mount to be shimmed with a 0.051mm shim for the lens to hold focus through the range.
    Myself and Dan from Newsshooter went back and forth on this and he actually did some amazing research and had the various copies of the 18-35 independently tested, it's funny that only Sigma will claim it's "near parfocal" and that everyone else says the lens is within spec. I myself have owned both the Cinematics and GL Optics rehouse as well as use the Nikon and Canon mount stills lens on various cameras and have always found the lens to be parfocal when mounted to a native mount (Nikon mount on a Nikon camera or Canon mount on a Canon camera etc) or if adapted with a correctly backfocus adapter or camera.
    Hope that helps.

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada
      @NiceladyproductionsCanada  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for your detailed response. I have filmed with two copies of the Sigma 18-35, one on the RAVEN and one of a Canon 7D II, I've found neither to be parfocal. Even on the Canon the focus gets shifted when zooming in/out after I've locked in focus. Glad to hear you've had better results. I'd say it's even more apparent in 4k.

    • @BampFilm
      @BampFilm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice Lady Productions that's a shame, I would hazard a guess that something wasn't right there. I'm fully expecting the Raven to not be spot on but the 7D2 should have been fine. Is it possible that you're expecting the lens to not be parfocal? (As you tested two copies on two cameras?) and have you measured the FFD or tried to shim/correct the issue or simply moved on thinking the lens isn't parfocal?
      I've used various copies of the lens on the AF100, BMCC with the Speedbooster and a tele converter, Sony A7s with a 1.4x adapter to cover full frame, Sony A7s2 in S35 mode, URSA's mini 4.6K, two Sony FS5's, the A6300 and a Nikon D7100.
      In total that's a Nikon mount lens, a Canon mount lens, a Cinematics manual rehouse in Nikon mount, Sigmas own EF Cine lens (at a trade show) and a GL Optics PL lens (please note the optical setup is the same in all of these lenses)
      All held focus through the range when the backfocus was accurate, with the Speedbooster I needed to alter the infinity adjuster for all EF lenses, with the PL lens the PL mount required a Zeiss shim, on the Sony cameras only the MC-11 adapter has the right FFD so with that adapter the lens holds focus. On the AF100 I used the Speedbooster and then everything else has a native EF mount. The URSA Minj 4.6K was sent back as the mount was out and when it came back the lens held focus through the range.
      Dam Chung has tested many copies himself with various adapters and Erik Naso tested it on a Canon 70D I think.
      Up to you but in my experience the lens holds focus and that's not from using one copy and one camera but across multiple cameras and configurations. I have a couple demo videos on my channel.

    Hello Nice Lady Productions,
    Are the fans at the top vulnerable to rain? Can the camera break because of the internals getting wet? There's a video by Sam Fregonese talking about why he sold his Red Raven, and he said he was worried about the fans getting damaged. Apparently he had a warranty in case, but I just wanted to hear your take on it. If you could let me know I would appreciate it. Thank you for the review!

    Very nice two part review. I learned a lot, and appreciate you taking the time to produce them.
    It sounds like you've used Blackmagic cameras before - and my biggest, simple question is: Is it worth the substantial price difference to upgrade to RED? Thanks again! K

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada
      @NiceladyproductionsCanada  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I'd say it depends what you're shooting. I'd also say that the RED RAVEN is part of a bigger RED ecosystem. Grading RED vs grading Blackmagic is different. RED footage looks amazing (if you know exposure etc) right out of the camera. Is the price difference worth it? I don't know. I'm curious to see how the new Panasonic EAV1 compares to both the RAVEN and URSA Mini. Perhaps a comparison review is in order. Is there something you think is lacking in the URSA Mini that you think the RAVEN has?

    • @gravitymediapro
      @gravitymediapro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice Lady Productions Thank you for your response. The EVA1 looks to be a solid competitor. Having real built in audio would certainly be a plus.
      I've never had the chance to shoot with RED, and it does have some disadvantages like audio and price.
      I'm just wondering if thr image quality is that much better to an easier workflow, like the Panasonic EVA1.

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada

      Hi, I mount the Zacuto Axis Mini to a Z-Rail that I attach to the top of the camera via two screws, I guessed the setup and it works perfectly. I believe I bought the 2" Z Rail from Zacuto then attached the Axis to a rod holder that hooks onto the Z Rail.

    • @NiceladyproductionsCanada
      @NiceladyproductionsCanada  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You mean because I love the camera? I came to that conclusion because I've used the RED RAVEN with great results and I've been shooting video for years, so have used a lot of different cameras in my life to compare the experience to. I only review gear that hasn't been reviewed thoroughly and since none of my reviews are paid, I pick gear I think deserves a proper review. Generally that winds up being gear I think is good. When I come across gear I think will be good and I try it and don't like it for some reason, I don't bother reviewing it as it's a waste of time and I'm not about to recommend gear I wouldn't use myself.
