    Raven is great! If you attach an EF lens with built in autofocus this will enable the Autofocus Modes menu option on the Raven or any DSMC2 camera with EF Mount. You can choose from one of four Autofocus Mode options: Single, Continuous, Touch Track, Rack. While not at the level of mirrorless cameras there are times where this is convenient.

    Wow, you really sold me on the camera. Sounds like you dont really “hate” anything about it, more just not used to/have different style or priorities than what its made for. Love your energy in the vid and looking forward to the next video!

    I've professionally worked with the RAVEN (burned out two since 2017. I also own the BMPCC 6KPro and R8. The R8 is for travel, one-man run and gun, vlog, instagram, with minimal setup, no monitors, or sound rigs, or lens pullers, once u get there, the DSLR no longer makes sense. The RAVEN is an older system(true), but still delivers one of the best images in the price range at $4.5K used, it can take on an FX9, or and FS7, or FX3. the HDRX mode on the camera giving it ability to shoot two exposures at the same time, still reigns king in 2024 along with 120fps 4.5K with beautiful colors and best post-production process. Still smaller than FS7, FX9, URSA.... I do hate the batteries if I do not have an assistant on the shoot. Also it has a crop, that is something worth mentioning, other than that is is a solid tool that will perform and deliver every time, and save time. The BMPCC 6K Pro? Great for interviews, and b-cam for the RED or R8, BUT its build quality is inconsistent, some have great ones, others get one with glitches, dead pixels, who knows... To me RED is good, but if you have trouble spending $6K+, BMPCC 6K is your best friend, and best image for the price with least hassle, and no DSLR additional components/accessories bs.

    I’m ganna pick one up today for $1k clean condition. Comes 3 batteries and I’m stoked. I currently own a FX3 and a A7siii but I’ve always wanted a RED and at this price I definitely wanna try it out and have some fun with it. I can’t wait!

    Love the insight, man. I just made a video about not really switching to Sony but rather adding an fx6 to my C70. They are completely different beasts.
    I totally feel you on those boot up times. It makes working with a red, force you to consider when to turn it on and off. Doesn’t help that they burn through batteries. 😅

      How well has it worked for you since you had it? I’m thinking of investing in a Red Raven set up this year .

    • @GrantAce
      @GrantAce 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DavinciHD_ I love it but I have some regrets mostly due to the bulkiness of it and the time it takes to set it up for actual cinematography and video work. It also has some low light problems, (which is expected for a RED), but I would say just buy something else if you want a high quality camera that performs just as well (Canon C70, FX3, etc.) the only reason to get a RED is for the beautiful result in skin tones that RED offers which I love.

    • @DavinciHD_
      @DavinciHD_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@GrantAce oddly the bulkiness is what intrigues me about it. The selling factor form me is the R3D codec being useable in FCPX. I want the ability to film raw without having to learn an entirely new NLE. I’ve been on Final Cut for 10 years so I’m not really trying to switch.

    • @DavinciHD_
      @DavinciHD_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GrantAce not really because of their pricing structure. I’m not a fan of subscription services. If I pay for a program I believe I should be able to own it. FCPX gives me the flexibility to do any type of content I need . And I only have to pay for it once

    Amazing video man! Curious, based on some of the cons, It seems like the Red Komodo would be the best fix/setup due to it having some autofocus (I know it’s not good ) smaller size, and lighter

    • @JosueEscogido
      @JosueEscogido ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can't compare a DSMC2 with a KOMODO, don't get me wrong the KOMODO has great quality but the frame rates are very limited on any DSMC2 you can basically shoot 4k 120 and it looks amazing

    • @raredreamfootage
      @raredreamfootage ปีที่แล้ว

      Cons = Low light / ISO performance, Out of Warranty/Service Proprietary Media Cards, Smaller Sensor with an EF mount (not short flange to allow for speed boosting).

    I own a Red Scarlet and a Sony DSLR I feel like all the great features of the new DSLRs like amazing autofocus, battery life, size, and weight all of it is great but the bottom compromises the Image Quality Red is red is all about Image quality and at the end of the day the sacrifice is worthed! Congrats on your RAVEN, in my opinion, is way better than the komodo, and its ridiculous frame rate limitations

    • @InfamousStar1
      @InfamousStar1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, a lot of the DSMC2, if not all of them, are better than Komodo due to is dynamic range and frame rate limitations. The only good thing about the Komodo is its global shutter and size.

    Nice Vid….
    I’ve been advising peers of mine, to stay away from the Dsmc2 cameras, not because they suck or anything like that but because I lean towards new tech over old tech.
    Red on their website only have the Dsmc3 cameras up, and I believe that’s telling. Like you, I have ran across some Dsmc2 owners that are having some issues with their cameras, and I’m afraid it’s all down hill from this point on; but of course I can be wrong.
    At the end of the day, it just depends on each filmmaker needs.
    I’m pretty sure if they release a Komodo 2 (11k or under), that will attract more Dsmc2 owners to cross over.

    A major con you didn't mention is that RED has ended all support for DSMC2 cameras. So if anything is damaged or needs maintenance, you'll either have to do it yourself or find a shop that's willing to work on these older REDs. With how expensive it is to rig out these older REDs you're better off saving up for a Komodo.

    • @harryhall4690
      @harryhall4690 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      DSMC isn’t supported but DSMC2 is still fully supported for service and repairs. Just got mine back from service. They’re still being used really widely so that support will continue for a good while yet, RED only just stopped support for the original dsmc series so still a nice timeline for dsmc2 yet.

    • @InfamousStar1
      @InfamousStar1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, this isn’t true at all. Like the other guy said, DSMC1 is no longer supported. But DSMC2 is STILL supported, and there isn’t an expiration date on when that support will end. But it will be supported for years to come.
      Where you’re probably confused by your claim is that RED no longer sells DSMC2 packages / camera bodies. But they still some DSMC2 accessories on their site (new), and will still fully support / service them if customers need assistance on that front.

    I personally think 16 stops of dynamic range cause a gap in image quality I own both red helium and canon r5c and dynamic range to me is major and the red color science is also better I think the biggest two con points u made is auto focus and size

    By the way what module goes on its right side of the body? (Opp side of ssd compartment).
