    Jesus. You my friend don’t need a red. The way you light, your composition, editing and storytelling are top notch. You could shoot a feature on a toaster oven and it’d be better than most mainstream and TH-cam films out here. My god you’re talented.

    We love our RED. They are definitely kings of cameras alongside Arri and Panavision.

    Thanks for your opinion on using a RED. I'm kind of a fan as well without ever having worked with one, just because I adore the image quality and the dynamic range so much. The biggest drawbacks seem to be the crop factor when changing resolution, the laggy menus and of course the price point of every single accessory piece. On the other hand, oh my god that sensor!
    I've worked with Arri Alexa Mini and Amira quite a lot and a guy at a local rental house told me, "When you regularly work with Arri, you won't feel comfortable with RED." I wonder if that's true or if I could see past the flaws... Maybe I should volunteer for some projects with a RED just to get a feel for the workflow.
    Anyway, I loved your review and enjoyed every second of it, so have a thumbs up and a very nice day!

      ... wir zocken jetzt mal ein bisschen! Having never shot on Arri I can’t speak with certainty but I’d say they beat RED out. Hands down with image, color science and dynamic range. That being said RED is basically a lego set with unlimited buildouts whereas Arri puts you in a box with how much shit needs to be on it. We will be leaving RED to go Arri at some point but the flexibility RED has is unparalleled.

    so funny, I was thinking the camera you shoot yourself with is such a great camera, I thought it was the Raven... Then you said it was a Blackmagic... ahahaa I love BM so much!

      Haha I love them too! Honestly making this video has made me realize how important good lenses are. For all b roll shots of the RED I did use my Blackmagic but I used the rented Sigma Cine lens on it which is sooooo much sharper than my cheaper Rokinon 35mm.

    I own a Raven and with the Nov. 18 update they hyped the menu system. I think your percentage's were a little off when comparing the red to other consumer camera's. If I would make a guess I would say most consumer camera's compared to the Raven come in at about 75%. That's still good, but within that 25% is a HUGE DIFFERENCE. Also that percentage drops DRAMATICLY when you start comparing Arri, Red 8K VV Monstro, etc... to about 62%.Which is why I bit the bullet and got one. I got so SICK AND TIRED of having one camera that does one thing good, but is missing this feature. But this other camera does this BLA BLA BLA... The Raven In my opinion is the best in the red family for versatility, you can configure it for a studio camera all tricked out, or strip it down for a sleek "run and gun". Unfortunately I believe I don't do my raven the justice it deserves at the moment, but I'm working on it. But as we all know it's not the camera, it's the person behind the camera that matter's the most. I've seen some AWESOME short's done on a DAMN iPhone, and DSLR camera's.I HIGHLY recommend the Red DSMC2 line of camera's, and in my humble opinion... ITS WORTH THE HYPE.Great video by the way.

      Patrick Fougére what about a Canon C200 ?
      I wonder how does it compare to overall functionality for smaller productions. I own the C200 , considering RED.
      I’m not a fan boy of any brand .
      I do like how fast I can work with the C200 .

    • @toungstudproductions7131
      @toungstudproductions7131 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The red isn't really designed as a run and gun camera (but It can be configured for it). Some pre thought needs to be addressed before you can use it. The C200 is a great camera, and is GREAT for documentary film making because a lot of the auto focus functions/tracking allows you to concentrate on filming rather than friggin with the focus/camera settings. The Dragon sensor LOVE'S LIGHT... and with the 16 stops of dynamic range / HDR function......GAWD WHAT A IMAGE!!! One thing you'll love (in my opinion) is how configurable the Red eco system is. Down side....THAT SHIT'S EXPENSIVE!!!! Media alone is 1K$ for the low GIG memory card. It really boils down to, "what is your main focus as a cinematographer?" studio or outside/documentary work... In my opinion that would determine if you want to get it... here is some filming on my red just 2 days ago.. I'm still learning after a year how to use the Raven to it's fullest but this what I got... th-cam.com/video/ilTVmDbXKC4/w-d-xo.html

    It is not Hype. Years I was thinking about loan to buy Scarlet-W, untill they showed Blackmagic Pocket 4k. Of course BM camera is not that great, but use new Sony sensor technology, dragon is like 6 years old piece of tech. When you talking about 90% where are GH5s and Sony cameras, Pocket 4k is for me on 95% because of RAW, dual iso, LUTs in camera and in next update new BRAW format. Of course it is not that good as RED but maybe it have better low light performance and lower noise. I think it is now similar to RED Mysterium-X sensor from 2010, same dynamic range and similar results at iso 2000. And this is nice for $1000 camera to be nearly similar to $50 000 camera from 2010. I hope I will get in future my own RED but now is Pocket 4k great alternative for poeple who still learning like me.

    • @initialfocus

    • @stephanes.
      @stephanes. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the same. The only things I think superior in Red is dynamic range and color science (better color separation)

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out Spenser Sakurai's BMPCC4K vs Epic Dragon tests. Dynamic range and colour is definitely better as you would hope for the price difference, but under controlled conditions it is hard to tell.

    I don’t agree with that thoughts that there is only 10% difference between say Sony A7II and Arri Alexa or Panavision or Arriflex or Arricam or Imax. It depends what are you using those cameras for and how much you know about the lighting and color grading and cinematography. If you use a Arri Alexa for youtube blog and upload to youtube of course you won’t see the difference. Because you are not using the camera properly.
    It’s nothing personal, but it is what it is .

    There are clear motion artifacts on the xHDR footage. I don’t know if that’s the xHDR or something from the edit.

    • @andreasoberg2021
      @andreasoberg2021 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      xHDR used correctly will not have any artifacts. It is just to different videos with different exposure. However it takes quite a bit of skill to post process xHDR. I recommend doing it in Davinci Resolve. The few times I have used it I have masked between the two exposures by hand but you can use luminance too.

    Hey so I got the red raven kit with the 120gb mag...I shoot music videos and unfortunately for the time being I have to use the mag (expense issue) how can I maximize the mag coz the red raw will be impossible to shoot long takes with the 120gb..I still want super quality

    • @initialfocus

      Shooting at lower compressions in RAW like 15:1 will still give great quality especially if the final product is going on TH-cam or something.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most places you rent through especially on expensive items like REDs you need to give a certificate of insurance. So I didn’t pay extra while renting since I already pay for business insurance which covers a certain price of rental equipment
