    2007 Camry Hybrid with 145K miles currently. This is my 3rd ABS Module replacement...Original went out at 120K then had the Toyota refurbished unit go out under warranty less than 12K miles. That replacement lasted a little longer but started to go out at 135K miles. I been driving it since 135K miles with the lack of pressure noise getting more frequent and the cycling on of the pump when I turn off the car or open the drivers door going on for a good 15-30mins later. Drove it longer while doing this to see how long it would go before it threw on the warning dash lights...so about another 10K miles I was able to get out of it. I got an OEM used 56K mile takeout and swapped it last week. The swap was fairly easy taking about 45mins as a first timer. Now to the tricky part about bleeding the brakes....I see a lot of videos using the fancy computer to bleed. We did not have that luxury of an expensive computer but had a code reader that could clear the codes also. So we did it the old fashion method while the car was off pumping the brakes and bleeding. Thus far about 500 miles later and a few 80+ mph stops to test out the brakes and all is perfect again. Also had to have my hybrid battery replaced at 136K miles. I went with Greentec Auto as they have a 4yr unlimited mileage warranty and no prorating either and thus far the battery has done great. No issues at all and they came right to my house and swapped it out in about 2hrs time. They are not the cheapest but I plan on keeping my Camry a long time and its been trouble free except for the ABS module but looks like I can comfortably swap this out myself when needed again.

      I was going to say the same thing. I'm trying to get around having to buy fancy 400.00 dollar part for the job. I may have to try your 80+ mph method. Can you describe safe testing conditions. Were you backroading it? Do you recommend a good code tester?

      I have a 2011 carry hybrid. It was my wife's, she passed in 2013 I will ne glad when I can get rid of it abs went out at 130k and hybrid battery went out at 160. Did you just use scanner to clean the codes and bleed it manually. I am looking at big bucks to have this done.I am an old school mechanic. Is it easy to do this myself.

      @@jimmyhawkins5357. We ended up saying screw it to the fancy computer controlled bleed they say ya must do and went old school bleeding. Sure enough codes all went away and brakes worked perfectly. Now the used junkyard unit did die instantly after about 9months leaving my car completely disabled and was not able to clear the codes or get it to drive at all. Absolutely no warning whatsoever so had it towed to dealer and they replaced with new unit for $1,300 and it’s been good since. I was shocked when they told me it was abs unit as there was no warning like the 2X before could hear the abs unit cycling many times after turning off the car but they said once the internals get brake fluid in them then they can’t got dry to get exposed and will cause the sudden failure. That’s what they said. Regardless car is running strong and still way cheaper than a newer Camry plus 35mpgs hard to beat

    I used your video to fix my 07 Camry Hybrid today. I installed the old. new replacement abs module, started the engine, and the unit sucked up most of the brake in the brake reservoir to fill what was lost during the installation. I didn't know how to bleed the brake lines but I believe the unit may have pushed out any pocket of air when it was sucking. I added more brake fluids to the reservoir and cleared the codes, and all of the warning lights disappeared. The car is breaking normally again. Thank you!

    Same issue with my 2011 camry hybrid, i drive a taxi I've done 525k's on it. I live in newzealand, couldn't apply brakes at all, literally had to drive at 20ks an hour luckily it happened during night time and i had a customer on board few seconds before the ABS pump died. Its costing close to $1000 NZD for replacing the pump including labour. I've also noticed couple of times a ROOSTER @10:41. Thank you for the video sir.

      My mechanic ordered the part from the Toyota dismantlers, pump cost $800 and labour was $150, 3 months warranty its a used part, new ABS PUMP from Toyota is $2000, the car is as good as like before. I was 1 week off from work, i live in Wellington City, try with any toyota wreckers/dismantlers you'll find it, its not worth buying $2k part for an old car like us which did 525k's. Good luck in finding the ABS PUMP.

    one of my mechanics sent me this link it was a lil too late though lol. the service info. is very confusing, to say the least. I managed to get mine programmed following the flowchart. they even call for pressurizing the reservoir to 50-80 KPA to bleed the brake actuator hose which I did, then clear "reset" memory then using the "invalid" option in the drop-down menu to mention some steps apparently unnecessary! i will try this next time awesome information Mr. Phillip! thanks!

    I have Camry Hybrid 2007, and i changed the ABS module 3 times for the last 1 year. Every time i replaced i had to go to a guy with scanner to reprogram the new module (3x $100)..Finally i find out that the problem is in the pressure accumulator not in the module. I removed it, drill a hole, and mount a check valve. I refilled it with nitrogen (~2000 PSI) and mount it back to the ABS module. I succeed to bleed the lines (all 4) with manually controlling the pump and the valves through a custom made connector. I drained about 200ml on each line-3 times already with no air bubbles coming out, but looks like there is still air somewhere in the ABS module. I have brakes but they are not perfect. My guess is there is air in the accumulator - before mount it back i filled it with brake fluid but still. Any help will be great appreciated. Great video by the way.

      The abs motor is supposed to come on periodically to build up assist pressure in the accumulator. You'll hear it more often the more you are applying the brakes or pushing hard. If you done any codes or braking problem you are OK.

    • @FixItPhillip
      @FixItPhillip  ปีที่แล้ว

      When it reaches a point where enough fluid pressure cannot be held or held long enough in the abs pump/accumulator, you will have an error on the dash similar to this video. My personal opinion would be to wait, especially if it is braking properly and you don't have any faults coming on. It is normal for the pump to cycle to build back up pressure when needed. But it will happen more frequently (even when not pressing on the brakes) when it's starting to internally fail.
