After a long flight from New York City, we woke up in the morning in Hong Kong ready to explore and eat. Stay tuned for delicious Hong Kong food and attractions in this video!
3:12 Lin Heung Teahouse (蓮香樓) - One of the most legendary places to eat dim sum in all of Hong Kong is Lin Heung Tea House, which remains a classic. When I went to Hong Kong on my first visit I ate there, and I try to go there every time I’m in Hong Kong. While the dim sum might not be the absolute best in Hong Kong, what can’t be beaten is the traditional Hong Kong tea house atmosphere. It’s always loud, packed, and you don’t know exactly what you’ll be getting, but it’s always one of the greatest dim sum experiences you’ll have. Today at Ling Heung tea house, I didn’t get all the dim sum dishes I really wanted, but that’s alright, it was still fun. Price - 171 HKD
11:07 Lunch at Kau Kee Restaurant (九記牛腩) - Brisket noodles is a dish you have to eat in Hong Kong, and one of the most famous restaurants in Hong Kong to eat brisket is Kau Kee, which has been in business for decades - they are almost synonymous with brisket in Hong Kong. Although this restaurant has become a bit of a tourist hit in Hong Kong, they still serve an outstanding bowl of brisket noodles, and what I like ever better: brisket tendon curry. The curry is packed full of flavor and mixed with a combination of shredded brisket and lumps of tendon. It’s worth the wait in line to eat here. Total price - 93 HKD ($11.99) got brisket noodles and tendon curry
16:29 Man Mo Temple - Since we were in the area after eating Hong Kong brisket noodles, we stopped off for a few minutes at Man Mo Temple right in the heart of Hong Kong.
18:21 Victoria Peak / Peak Tram - By this time in the early afternoon, Ying and I were starting to get really sleepy - a combination of the jet lag and the food. So we went back to the hotel to take a rest. I then woke up and since the weather looked to be pretty clear, I made a run for Victoria Peak. Many people take the Peak Tram to the top of the mountain for a view over Hong Kong, but when I saw the long queue to take the tram, I decided just to hike. The hike took less than an hour, and I needed the exercise. Visiting Victoria Peak is one of the top things to do in Hong Kong, and it gives you an idea of the compactness and density of Hong Kong.
21:57 祥利飯店 Restaurant (Thanks to Tim Lai for this recommendation) - I’m not sure of the English name of this restaurant, but for dinner we headed to this restaurant, which is a simple Cantonese made to order restaurant. The food was good, and it was a great Hong Kong atmosphere. Total price - 280 HKD ($36.10)
Day 35 in Hong Kong was a wonderful day of delicious Hong Kong food and attraction!

I love the history of the building and the view after you hiked as well as looking at the food. We are poor, and have not had electricity for a couple of years, and I love watch your videos as it helps to plant ideas in my brain for things I might like to try and cook, better spices, and even healthier eating as I am overweight. Often I am eating spicy flavored ramen with an over easy egg in it watching your videos as it is something I enjoy. I love seeing your wife laughing in some of the videos, and your son is so cute. What a great experience for him to get to travel the world like that. Thank you for sharing your travels with us.

Thanks Mark for taking me with you around the world. I grew up in Hong Kong and now live in Vancouver Canada. I stayed at the same Marriott hotel in Hong Kong when I went back to visit my parents years ago. It is chaotic but Lin Heung offers an authentic dim sum experience. I can relate to getting up at 2:30am after arriving in Hong Kong, the humidity, the subway ride, the busy streets and sharing table for a bowl of noodles.

Jason Vi Hey I was just wondering if there any Halal food places in HK, the food looks so delicious and I would love to visit one day :)

    • @jasonvi2
      @jasonvi2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Samira N yes! there are plenty! there are 220,000 Muslims right here and a couple of mosques. There are local delicacies that serve with halal meat at local restaurants like Wai Kee, Ma's Restaurant, and have a halal dim sum at the Islamic Centre Canteen. Dim sum usually serves sea food, so it wouldn't be a problem for you! Of course, you can opt for Indian or Pakistani restaurants which is quite common among east Asian locals.

I've been in HK many time and remembered well how hectic to eat in some of these restaurant, waiting for table is another thing people would stand next to your table to wait for you to finish so they can take your place. It's not a relax atmosphere at all. Everybody eat in the hurry, the place is noisy, people are not friendly, everything is so expensive but the food is good so maybe it's worth it to try.

She is claustrophobic, plus she's bitching about the place not having a "relax atmosphere", the place being noisy, and the ppl there "not friendly" (i.e. being real as opposed to having a waiter check on her every 5 minutes to see if "everything is okay")
She's just at the wrong place period.

I've had a lot of dim sum in my life, from New York to California, most of the time you don't have to fight for the food. Sometimes during the busiest hour, you do have to make special requests to the waiters and they watch for the kitchen to get you want you really want, like don tot (egg custard dessert) or beef fun roll, my favorites!

Hi Mark, Thank you for introducing Hong Kong
I am a native of HongKonger
in 4:59 is "荷葉飯 Hor Yip Fan" Fried rice steamed with Lotus leaf
in 7:25 is a "蠔油鴨掌 Hoi Yau Arb Chung " Ducks feet steamed with Oyster sauce
And Kau Kee get famous because a lot of travel magazines introduction ,is not their taste good to get famous.
there are many places in Hong Kong better than them.
I hv a little suggest for people who will come to Hong Kong to travel . There are 18 districts in Hong Kong,
each with a wet market "街市" (市政大廈 Municipal Services Building) set up by the government,
and the "Top floor" of each wet market will be a cooked food market.
However, wet markets in each district have different style food... from Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night supper.
Usually , Spend 5 US dollars you can have a full set Chinese or Western style breakfast.
    - Kwun Chung Municipal Services Building : need by Austin MTR ststion; Native of Hong Kong food
    - Kowloon city municipal services building : Chinese Hotpot, Thai Food.....
    - Tai Po municipal services building : Beefs noodles, Fishsball noodles......& Sea food
    - Mongkon municipal services building : Conveniently located in downtown Kowloon; Hong Kong's traditional Congee, Milk Tea , Local Carts Noodles.

Happy New Year Mark. That's definitely my favorite local dimsum place. I always get an order of their char siu (gotta ask for half lean half fatty) and braised duck leg soup rice. Yummmm! Their tea is also of good quality. The brisket place on the other hand used to be decent but not anymore. The soup base is just MSG these days unfortunately. A noodle place mostly for tourists and is over-priced for that type of food. There's a very famous fish congee place in central... try that next time Mark.

We went on two separate tours to China and when we went into the restaurant it would be up a long flight of stairs to the second floor. This vid reminded me of that. Wonderful trips and tour guides that stayed with you throughout the 2. 11-day trips.

Tsim Sha Tsui, across the water from Kowloon. The restaurant is in the building right next to the Intercontinental Grand Stanford (to the right, if you're facing the hotel). :)

The atmosphere in the dim sum restaurant is like the fittest survives. I can understand if food scarcity prevails but in this world of abundance why is there such need to grab food at the expense of others. Did u you eat in places where you can breathe at the same time? Pl share those eating joints.

Mark, there is another way to get to the Peak. Bus 15C from Central Pier, Bus 15 from Exchange Sq., or Minibus 1 from public transport area of the MTR Hong Kong Station. These are all better than the Tram after 5PM, because the of crowds and long lines. Less expensive as well. Using the buses is easy. Each bus company, as well as the MTR, have apps, in english, that will help you find a route. All buses take the Octopus card, so you don't need change. For your followers, Mark has an Octopus card in the video. Any place you need to go in HK, you can use public transport. Easiest city in Asia for english speakers.

Yes, on a recent visit to HK, I thought dim sum in Malaysia is so much better, more variety, more space and style, and still very affordable. The famous HK dim sum chain had to fold up in Malaysia as it couldn't compete!
