Matt saying he could hear a squirrel made me think about how a 150 deer can walk silently through the woods, but a squirrel sounds like someone running while wearing flip flops and carrying 8 full Wal-Mart bags?
I know! Matt's great. You get a "Hmmm", mebbe, yup..." But when he has something to share, it's worth listening. I've learned a lot from both Matt and Tipper. This channel is a valuable resource if you try to be self-sufficient.
Be on the lookout for a couple red and black buffalo plaid wool coats like Matt’s wearing for a couple grandsons in about 6 years. It’d be an awesome picture of Matt heading into a woods with his little pardners on either side holding his strong hands.
Congrats Tipper and Matt! It will be so fun having grand babies who are almost twins! Wanted to say loved to see the beauty of your woods and the creek. Pretty much confined to home and love seeing your beautiful Appalachia.
I don’t have access to river rocks but I’ve bought a couple of bags of rocks in the craft department at Walmart to use in the bottoms of vases for things like this hemlock tree. I also love to pick up acorns and have been known to fill a vase with those to surround things that don’t need to be watered.
Matt cracks me up! "I didn't care when I was 4, and I don't care now!" I was taking a sip of coffee when he said that and it just about came out of my nose! Ha! You two are the BEST. Love your growing family, all of you and your girls and their babies and granny are in my prayers.
OMG. He is Soooo Funny. Saying he doesn’t remember Christmas decorations from 17 years ago, it’s just not in him. And then when Tipper’s talking about the Christmas she didn’t decorate much and he asks her if she’s sure it was him she was with 😂😂😂😂
Matt & Tipper's treasured memories warm my heart & take me back. Growing up in a close knit coal camp I didn't know it then but I sure miss those good ole days. We were reminiscent of the little rascals or the Clampetts. I love that they are such diligent keepers of the old ways. If you decorate your little cedar (lol) please share.
My mom and dad didn't have a whole lot of money when they got married. They collected gumballs from a gun ball tree and wrapped in aluminum foil. We still have a few. ❤
I felt so sorry for Matt wanting a fried green tomato. I have had a lot of success by slicing green tomatoes and laying them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freezing them then afterwards putting them in a freezer bag. They preserve very well and are such a treat to fry when the snow is flying along with a pot of soup beans and fried potatoes.
My mother-in-law put a button in her eye to get a speck out. The speck was supposed to gravitate to one of the thread holes. One day after we were married, my husband got something in his eye. He fell back on the home remedy he grew up with and put a button in his eye. For the first time in his life, that button slipped up over the top of his eyeball. He had to go to the ER to get it out. This is a true story! I was there.
When you commented on if you could tie the branches together ,I had to smile at a memory of when I was a young girl, about 6 years old in 1962. My family had just moved to the big island of Hawaii and it was my first Christmas there away from the mainland. Christmas trees were not very accessible in those times so my father tied several palm tree fronds together to fashion a Christmas tree. Did it look like a traditional Christmas tree? No, but it was a memory that is to this day very special to me.
Matt is such a cool guy. He's most definitely a keeper Tipper! He really does seem so much more relaxed and happier since he's got his life back and not having to go into a job every day, instead he gets to work there alongside you guys which is perfect timing for all of you. About the 'old wives' tales', well I know for sure this works. Tipper if you're anything like I am, and you're using an oven you're going to inevitably burn yourself a little on your hand or wrist. As soon as you burn yourself, put some (regular) mustard on the burn and somehow it automatically takes the pain away. I don't know how it does it but I've used mustard several times and it always works! I even told my son who drives a truck to keep a few mustard packets in his trucks first aid kit just in case. Try it next time and let us know how it works. You can thank me later! 🙂
My Daddy would always find, what we called a thorny bush tree, while quail hunting before Christmas. He would bring it home and Mama made a candy tree. Put in a bucket with dirt and bucket covered with foil paper. On each of the thorns a small gumdrop was placed. So anyone that passed the tree grabbed a treat. Mama had to replace treats often. Thorny bush trees are hard to find where we live. My husband is always looking for one. What great memories! Merry Christmas!
Jo Hubbard…Standing here listening to you two…… I’m cackling …sooo funny.. do you remember the old saying, “You don’t pay for your raising until you have kids.” …lol. I can’t until they get here. Congratulations to all of you. Two precious little boys❤❤❤
I bet Matt thought they’d never come a day when He’d say he doesn’t have time to go for squirrels cause he’s too busy deer hunting! Lol😂 Hey Tipper, I know it’s a common phrase to say that Jesus is the reason for the season, but If you really think about it, we are the reason for the season. He came down here for us, on a rescue mission because he loves us so much.🙂
Oh Matt, you may not be able to remember all the decorations of years past, but I bet you remember a majority of all your hunting successes, just like my husband! 😂😂
We never put stuff up when the kids were little, we just kept telling them, Not a toy for Joel, or Dalton or Tori. They never hurt themselves or broke anything.
Babies! Better safe than sorry. My son was an angel but my daughter was into everything! We had to but an alarm on the front door because (at two) she’d want to take a walk.
My Grandmother (born in 1898) would take string and soak it in Elmer's glue and dip it in glitter. Easy to string on small branches. My mother and her sister got a orange and a peppermint for Christmas. Hard times back then but they had a good life. My housemouse has really enjoyed the cookbook she ordered, and I am for sure happy she liked it. My jeans not so much. The diet starts after New Years.
I just love watching you and Matt chatt’n back n forth, reminiscing. It’s like watching family. Those baby boys are gonna be such a fun blessing to watch grow, and give you and their parents a run for their money. 😆 God bless all y’all.❤️
Oh my, ours were into everything too 😂 Our oldest, who's almost 30, he would like to run his cars up and down my back when we would lay down for a nap. I didn't mind because it made me sleepy lol but that little turkey didn't fall asleep and when I woke up, he had squeezed Hershey syrup all over my back and down the legs of my britches! I was a mess 🙈 But we had the door knob, cabinet, and drawer locks too. We had to reinstall them about 2 years ago when our grandbaby started toddling around. But what a joy ❤🥹 I'm so excited for all of y'all!
My word ya'll brought back a bunch of memories! It is a miracle I am still alive. LOL Mama used to lock us outside and even when my siblings were back in school. Daddy was overseas a lot and I always wanted to be outside. I kept my fishing pole hid in mama's canalilies right outside my window. Needless to say i was always being sent to stay with my mother's mother that lived in the Ozark Mountains. I would shimmy down the black walnut tree outside the attic room where I had my room. I loved it running in the woods up there. Thanks for bringing back so many warm memories.
Just heard about your wonderful news two baby boys on the way … Matt will be a great granddad so much information about the mountains to hand on and you will love your grand babies , it’s such a blessing to have young ones in your life and it’s such a gift to love and be loved by them. Wishing you all the joy. These little ones will be so lucky to have you both My grandsons are 12 and 9 l live on a property with them everyday my life is filled that special love , my granddaughter is 20 and so dear to me watching her moving forward into her future The circle of life turns more everyday as we age but the compensation of grandchildren make everyday worth while Chris from Australia ❤
Oh my gosh, I gotta tell y’all!! Now instead of those old cabinet baby proof locks, now they have a “magnet” that you can put on the cabinet and put the “open knob” out of reach like on the fridge (close) and when you need to open a cabinet touch it with the “open knob” so easy! 🥰
Indeed you two make me laugh. I love the little hemlock tree you put in your kitchen. It's sweet. As always, I'm glad to watch you both eat popsicles. Hugs.
We were so lucky with our twin grandchildren. They never touched anything that didn't belong to them. They were just really good and so respectful. Today they are 17 and great kids getting college acceptances almost weekly. We are so proud for lots of reasons but they have great hearts and good Christian teenagers. Nobody can ever prepare for the love you have for your grandchildren!!!
Maybe it's the very word "hemlock"...my mother is forever saying somebody had to have "the hemlock!!" (she means the Heimlich maneuver, for choking victims, lolol). 🤣 I think that Hemlock decoration looks very sweet, Tipper! 🙌🏼💞
Two years ago, i went all nostalgic and made all the ornaments for the tree. They along with a few cherished ornaments from our time in Germany and the ones my son made were what I've used since. But this year, I can't get up any enthusiasm to put our tree up. Your little hemlock is rather inspirational...just enough greenery to welcome the season. I can see some small white lights or even tiny pine cones on it. My son figured out how to open all those safety locks, so we just moved all the dangerous stuff and left him play with the pots and pans or other safe things.
You guys Crack me up!! I've heard the expression, ...rugrats and ankle biters, but never have I heard curtain climbers!!! 😂😂😂😂 Too funny! You guys are going to be great grandparents! I can't wait....I'm excited for you AND the girls!
I also get cranky when I'm hungry,. My husband says, good grief! Eat something and come see me I'm half an hour! Loved the talk and trip in the woods! ❤❤
Oh, Tipper, i was the same way. We had the doorknob covers, plug-in covers, and cabinet latches. I'm thinking Matt needs to get started buying those back up. I did it to just protect my little girl. I love all those memories. I wish my daughter wanted babies. We would love having grandbabies.
My granny would always have a hemlock tree that my grandaddy and uncle would go out and cut and she always had fresh mistletoe that they would shoot from the trees.
I watched your live stream you Matt and Corie did, you all did good. I was going to write something, but you had soooooo many comments to read already I didn't have the heart to give you more work. Sitting here I just had an epiphany, The reason I love popsicle time is because you two remind me of my grandma and grandpa Rose going back and forth grandpa teasing grandma and grandma getting irritated. The one grandma disliked the most was grandpa telling her that she was way older than him because he was born on the leap year, therefore only had a birthday every 4 years. Katie reminds me of me, Corie reminds me of my sister Sharon. May God bless you all.
Tipper, you are so, so sweet. ❤. And Matt helping you find your little tree brought back memories of me and my daddy trap-sin through our property and creek (Bull Creek in Asheville NC) getting a little gum ball tree! ❤️🎄❤️. I could not imagine not having your channel to watch. ❤
You both and your family brings me such joy! We are a very small family now, and when way hung you brings such warm memories. Congratulations for the two grandbabies! What a wonderful life they will have. Prayers continue for everyone.
Matt had me laughing in this video, he doesn't try to be funny, just his natural way of expressing things 😅 I always thought hemlocks were a pine or cedar. That pull apart bread of yours that was in a previous video sure looks good, maybe this year I'll try making it. 🎄☃️🦌✨🌟💖
When you said “wrinkley” it brought me back to childhood… I haven’t heard anyone say that in years. Except me. 😂😂😂 & I have made pull apart bread with just cinnamon for years. ❤
You two are soooooo Blessed to enjoy your time together so young so much time to have. Love the sweetness one can feel when you all are together. Makes me wistful for my Glen. God Bless you and yours . Life gonna soon be getting really lively when those two little fellas arrive. Matt will have his time with little partners had his girls now he gets to do man things with th😢em what a time for making a life time of memories for all. I do so enjoy having you in ,u life I have secretly adopted all of you. Makes my life more complete having you all to look forward to
Miss Tipper and Matt, Thank y'all for the wonderful nature hike through the beautiful Appalachian forest. It was a fine treat! Btw, I like Matt's thrift store wool score. What a cool find! He picked a fine hemlock mini tree as well. 🥰 Congratulations for soon to be grandparents! 🎉❤️🥰
I enjoy your simple country nature walks and talks, and readings. I don't think I have seen a hemlock. It's a pretty tree for decorating your kitchen! Thanks for another lovely time away from the pressures of life.
Ever Charlie Brown's tree had charm and character. Now, if you were able to prove Mayt wrong, you may want to mark your calendar for an annual celebration. He strikes me as one who knows his business...lol.
That is one cute little tree. Oh boy, I sure know what ya mean about a little one into everything, my four year old grandson can not be trusted once second LOL
Y’all are going to have to get 2 car seats, 2 high chairs, and at least 1 pack and play for when Corey’s baby is at the house. You may be able to put both babies in Katie’s crib for a bit but they will grow so fast!
The old man’s beard can act as an anti-bacterial. Matt was recently talking about being outnumbered, just like that the tables turned. 🤗🎄 you all are blessed. Continuing prayers for Granny and the family! Hope we get to see that popsicle in the snow video🤭
Maybe the little grandsons will have a personality somewhere between Corey & Katie and Alex. I think you may have to "keep an eye on Grandpa" though. Sounds like he knows all sorts of things to teach them. 😊
Hi y'all! That was fun! I have a three limbed Charlie Brown Christmas tree with one red ornament to hang from it! I use a piece of my grannies old blue robe as the blanket for the base! I then surround it with all of the little figures from Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer ❤ Thank you for the video! God Bless & love to granny 🙏🏽 Seattle kin
Love you're tree it's lovely! I'm like you l absolutely 🌲🌴.Matt is so sweet to you. You guys make a great couple. Prayers for Granny bless her soul. You are so blessed to have her around for this Christmas.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yall are gonna be fantastic grandparents. I believe your excitement shows when you talk about the girls and others being little. We are exited for you too!
Hemlock is also called spruce pine. Spruce Pine is a town in Mitchell County presumably named for the tree. Another tree grows down in the flatlands that is called spruce pine but it is not the same tree.
Also the red spruce tree is native to the high mountains of western North Carolina. It's found in the spruce-fir forests and sometimes in pure stands of red spruce. The spruce pine tree also called cedar pine , Walter's pine , is native to Southern South Carolina, west to Louisiana and south to Florida.
@@benlaw4647The hemlock we call spruce pine is the Tsuga caroliniana or Carolina Hemlock. It is neither a spruce or a pine. It only grows in Western North Carolina with a few instances in Southwestern Virginia and Northwestern South Carolina along the border with North Carolina. It is closely related to the Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis). Why our people call it spruce pine I don't know.
24:58 Matt; I don't do it like I would if I had free will Lol poor Matt has lost his free will lol Y'all crack me up our families talk so much alike we should be related! I could hear my dad saying that he's come unfed. But I'm like you Tipper they better not be anybody pour cold water on me in the shower or to wake me up! Talk about mad as a wet hen! That'd be me. 😂 I'm in McCreary Kentucky and my dad's mom was pure Appalachia ❤️☺️
Some colored marbles or river stones dropped in the bottom of the jar around the zip-tied branches would keep the tree from wiggling in the jar. It's really pretty on the table there with the others! I like that Buffalo Plaid jacket of Matt's--nice and bright and Christmasy looking! I wish we had 6" of snow, too, Tipper. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great week! from SC, Jane ❤🙏🎄
When we were kids, the adults would put us on the porch inside a wood "play pen" with no bottom in it. Gates hinged together in a square shape. Even today the elders talk about how they did that to make sure we had a good long nap or nights sleep.

Matt saying he could hear a squirrel made me think about how a 150 deer can walk silently through the woods, but a squirrel sounds like someone running while wearing flip flops and carrying 8 full Wal-Mart bags?
😊 so true!

This saying is hill ar rious.❤❤❤
😂😂
For Matt being a man of few words, he is hysterical!!!!😂

Love that thought 😊
Oh they have them at Target for infants! That will be so cute! 😂❤

Congrats Tipper and Matt! It will be so fun having grand babies who are almost twins! Wanted to say loved to see the beauty of your woods and the creek. Pretty much confined to home and love seeing your beautiful Appalachia.
Put marbles or creek stones in the vase to cover the zip ties and stabilize the tree.
Great idea 😊
River rocks. Exactly what I did.
I don’t have access to river rocks but I’ve bought a couple of bags of rocks in the craft department at Walmart to use in the bottoms of vases for things like this hemlock tree. 😊 thank you
The door knob things were the worst! My husband used to joke that they did a great job of keeping me out of the rooms. 😂
😊
LOL, while Matt was cutting down your tree, I was thinking what a man does for the woman he loves. He cuts down a Charlie Brown tree for her.
😊
I enjoy watching the two of you together. I can just see the love between you. 💕
Who could not love Matt 😢
He is such a wonderful family man, and has made this family full of love ❤ God Bless

Matt's thorn bush incident was just like your Christmas story Tipper! Neither boy would tell mom for fear of being banned from their cool place.
I thought of that too 😊
Dried apple and Orange slices tied on your little tree, and maybe string together cranberries would look lovely.
Cant wait till the curtain climbers show up!!!
So glad yall are gonna be home to enjoy them its gonna be just wonderful !!!
The walk up the creek almost looks tropical, so pretty. The tree turned out real cute. Thank goodness for zip ties. Your just the cutest couple.

One thing about being wrong from time-to-time is there so many of us.
So enjoy Tipper & Matt Such a great couple. Me & my husband celebrated 40 yrs of marriage last May. We are in our 60s.
Happy Anniversary! Many more in good health and joy!❤
You are so kind thank you 😊
New follower here what kind of ice cream are y’all eating they look so good
You both and your family brings me such joy! We are a very small family now, and when way hung you brings such warm memories. Congratulations for the two grandbabies! What a wonderful life they will have. Prayers continue for everyone.
Thank you so much!
I raised 4 boys. You two are in for it lol
😊
Matt had me laughing in this video, he doesn't try to be funny, just his natural way of expressing things 😅 I always thought hemlocks were a pine or cedar. That pull apart bread of yours that was in a previous video sure looks good, maybe this year I'll try making it. 🎄☃️🦌✨🌟💖
When you said “wrinkley” it brought me back to childhood… I haven’t heard anyone say that in years. Except me. 😂😂😂
& I have made pull apart bread with just cinnamon for years.
Makes my life more complete having you all to look forward to
Thank you!! We are thankful for you!!
"They's banshees" LOL...y'all are so funny.
😊
That is one cute little tree. Oh boy, I sure know what ya mean about a little one into everything, my four year old grandson can not be trusted once second LOL
Y’all are going to have to get 2 car seats, 2 high chairs, and at least 1 pack and play for when Corey’s baby is at the house. You may be able to put both babies in Katie’s crib for a bit but they will grow so fast!
Make you a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. I think they are cute
You two are adorable. It's ok Matt my memory is awful too. I love your family. You make my day.
Thanks so much 😊
Yall are going to be the cutest granny and Papa!! Those little boys will wrap you right around their fingers. So excited for y’all!! ❤❤😊😊
Hey Matt & Tipper thanks for taking us along on another great video 🎄 Jesus is the reason for the season
Hahaha, we STILL have cabinet locks at my moms house. And my great nephews are in their 20’s. 😆
😊
I then surround it with all of the little figures from Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer ❤
Thank you for the video!
God Bless & love to granny 🙏🏽
Seattle kin
Love that! Thank you 😊
🥰
Put some creek rocks in the bottom of the mason to stabilize it.
Love you're tree it's lovely! I'm like you l absolutely 🌲🌴.Matt is so sweet to you. You guys make a great couple. Prayers for Granny bless her soul. You are so blessed to have her around for this Christmas.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
I just love you all to pieces.
I Love the sound of that little creek! It makes my heart speed up!
I don't think I knew that 😊 Thank you!
@@papaw5405 yep..😊👍👍
I wish you could see my cat and I watching this video. She is sitting so close to me and watching so intensely. Those popsicles look so good.
Love that 😀 thank you
Yep, Matt is thinking hurry up gardening time! He is definitely not into the decorating!!!!
24:58 Matt; I don't do it like I would if I had free will
Lol poor Matt has lost his free will lol
Y'all crack me up our families talk so much alike we should be related!
😊 Thank you for visiting with us 😊
Some colored marbles or river stones dropped in the bottom of the jar around the zip-tied branches would keep the tree from wiggling in the jar.
Thank you 😊
I love how you remember little sweet moments.
I remember using a Holly bush for decoration it made a beautiful greening for Christmas 🎄.
My Mama did that too! Great memories
When we were kids, the adults would put us on the porch inside a wood "play pen" with no bottom in it. Gates hinged together in a square shape. Even today the elders talk about how they did that to make sure we had a good long nap or nights sleep.
