I would argue that Sony and Microsoft know what they're doing without a risk. The next Xbox and Playstation will be easy to pick up and will be enticing. Nintendo is trying many things, and sometimes they dont work. XB/PS, however, make sure that their audiences know what they're getting.

Personally what I love about "Nintendo" is that they don't care about amazing graphics or 4K, they just make great video games that later become classics and people of almost every age could play them, and cuz of that I think "Switch" will succeed. But "Nintendo" should allow much more third-party developers and games on their new console like "Call of Duty" (Even though I don't like it) for mainstream players or maybe "Rocket League" for casual players, and maybe bundles of their older games to make people interested in their franchises like "No More Heroes 1+2 bundle", "Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5+2.8 bundle", "Metroid Prime 1+2+3 bundle" and maybe "Splatoon 1 Deluxe", "Super Mario Maker Deluxe" and "Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 bundle" (Of course some of them shouldn't be charged at full price, maybe 49.99 or 39.99 will be good enough). Just don't make games with gimmics, unless they're optional.

ERBarnes88 Kingdom Hearts 3 is running on Unreal engine 4, and Unreal engine 4 crew recently announced that they will be supporting "Switch". So maybe one day we will see the 3rd installment on "Switch".

Nintendo games on the PC is the only thing I ever wanted from Nintendo. Emulators are great, but something official would be appreciated.
I doubt they will make a game for the PC, because they are invested in making their own hardware. Your unlikely to find a Nintendo game that isn't exclusive to their console.

I’ve gotta say, a couple of years after this vid came out I’m seeing Nintendo was right- and they’ve done so by fixing many of the problems adressed in the video. The switch is selling like crazy, and it’s selling so well because it made sure to be as innovative as possible (as said in the video) without sacrificing the accessibility for 3rd party support. I only have one physical game copy on my switch, the rest of it is from the e-shop. They’ve started allowing cross platform play, and they’ve continued to support their mobile games on top of this. One of the things that stood out to me the most was that Reggie stated that they didn’t want to go down the route of “let’s see how powerful of a graphics card we can put in our console”, an ideal which has also carried on to the Switch, but hasn’t impacted it’s sales due to it’s incredible games. GG, nintendo.
True the Switch has sold well but thats mostly due to the console handheld combo and this is clear from all of Nintendos console vs handheld sales as stuff like the DS and Gameboy outsold the consoles as most people buy the portable option, also having the weaker hardware leads to them being behind on technology and having to come up with gimmicky tricks like Labo to compensate meanwhile theres games like HL Alyx pushing real VR forward and thats due to the more powerful hardware creating better experiences, and if this aint enough to convince you then I would like you to search up "BOTW 4k reshade" and tell me that you wouldnt want to experience that version of the game at 60fps as its literally better and Nintendo can do this it is possible and I hope they do do it in the future.

I do too only smash bros .games not from nintendo like RE4 driday the 13th etc. Its cheaper the in steam or ps xbox
The only problem is that they made it an under powered console, you can see this in Fortnite’s graphical changes, sometimes Zelda Breath Of The Wild will need fan time work overtime, I’d love to give more examples but I don’t really have many 3rd Party games tbh

Personally, I don’t want Nintendo to fail, but the mobile games are cool.
Then again, the switch changed my view of gaming. Don’t want to play on a tiny screen? Console mode. Have to defeat Ganon, bowser, or the ender dragon but also have to run errands? Handheld mode.
The switch really revolutionized gaming AND gaming consoles, and I hope that they continue this for a long time.

Nintendo is the most insanely innovative company in existence. they never make a new console just to increases processing power or graphics. just look at the history; nes and snes were the first consoles to have a saving system, n64 adds analog sticks, gamecube... uhh I forgot what they did... compact disks? wii adds motion controls, wii u, a separate screen to play on. in the handheld department; Gameboy Color, first handheld device in color; Nintendo DS features not only the addition of two screens but one you can touch and interact with. DSi adds internet compatability, Nintendo 3ds, a 3d gaming experience that doesn't require peripherals, and the new 3ds, adding an extra analog stick that tilts instead of moving around and improving the 3d tech. now we have the Nintendo switch, a hybrid home and portable console. I always love hearing about new Nintendo consoles because you just never know what's coming next. if Nintendo never innovated consoles, where would we be? all the other gaming companies get more credit just because they were able to fine tune nintendos tech and work it into their own consoles. without the innovation of Nintendo consoles, Nintendo games couldn't exist either. how would we play smash bros if analog sticks were never invented? directional inputs would be impossible. look at Pokemon ranger, utilizing the touch screen to make a new kind of game! in the 3ds family, streetpass is added, allowing friends to participate in each other's play, even unintentionally. saying Nintendo is the boldest gaming company isn't doing it justice, it's just the best company.

It costs money to attain rights to publish to other systems, they gain less money because instead of taking the full paycheck, they only get royalties, and exclusives on Nintendo consoles brings more people to them.

Nintendo is the only company that makes consoles worth actually buying. The others are just downgraded PCs. Nintendo's consoles are at least different enough to justify their existence.
well put, Microsoft and Sony both release graphic wore powerhouses to impress I have a good PC most games available on PS4 & Xbox One are also available and usually better on PC. Nintendo however release innovative consoles with fantastic game play.
robin iles but they're still exclusives they're not coming to the PC and you have to own a PlayStation 4 in order to play some of these games I understand if you have a PC and you think it's better than the PS4 more power to you but I'm sticking with my PlayStation 4 because it actually has the games that I'm interested in. I do not want to go through the garbage that is Steam Greenlight if I were to go PC exclusive. I've seen videos where people are just using Unity assets and making garbage games for the PC I feel sorry for you PC guys getting Early Access. avoid the Steam Greenlight like the plague. I'd rather stick with my PS4 were at least Sony has quality control and steam does not. Reggie it seemed everything he was saying in the veil was rehearsed he actually has no love for video games at all.
+Zackary Smith yes this it is true that there isn't as much quality control on the games in steam green light. but 1. Not all PC exclusives are launched from greenlight or even steam 2. If there was a form of quality control like sony's on greenlight the amount of great indie games would probably lower.
Alec Mackintosh I'd rather have less Indie titles than more garbage on Steam. I intend to make my own video games one day and to think I have to put it on the same shelf on Steam with other garbage titles I understand I have to prove myself but the idea that my game could be lost under a pile of garbage on Steam Greenlight just makes me want to go console exclusive lot safer there.
Nintendo tries to make money with gimmicks. But those gimmicks never become standard controls for hardcore gaming.

Sure, but if you truly play games as your hobby or passion you will truly realize the utter superiority of PC. I can't even think of one advantage consoles have over PC besides local multiplayer, which developers nowadays are shifting further and further away from.
sure you can say that, but the ones who actually made it mainstream and a global phenomenon is pcs sadly as it is for you, games like dota,counterstrike,lol helped pave the way to our gaming generation to be accepted and even though of to become an olympic sport, hate to burst your bubble but surely their is barely anything console helped, except for those tekken and street fighting games

that is true, the made gaming mainstream, but that happened in the '80s and early nineties, when smartphone didn't exist and PCs costed ~five to ten times more than they do now (adjusting for inflation). Now everyone has a either a PC, a smartphone, or both. There is still some space for consoles... but how many of them? Perhaps only two, as sales figures seems to confirm, at least for now.

this just shows that sony and nintendo had the most influence in the gaming world. I'm still trying to figure out what the xbox brought to the industry. basically nothing.
Milos Pavlovic Microsoft marketing the hell out of the Xbox, claiming it was the most powerful console out there. Thing is, it was about equal to the Gamecube (both were well ahead of the PS2), but people still ate that marketing scheme up. Another reason was Halo, probably the most hyped game in history up to that point. It was available on PC but most PCs at the time couldn't run Halo so they settled for Xbox.

Maxximuss The Potato Overlord if Nintendo would stop make consoles and actually released Legend of Zelda for my PlayStation I'd be happy because I have never bought a Nintendo console and I never will cuz Nintendo pulling a Sega by abandoning the Wii U and moving on to the switch( how do I know Nintendo will do the same thing with the switch if that fails). Sony didn't abandon the PS3 when it was being slammed by people they turned it around they produced great exclusives and actually got to the point where the console could be sold for an affordable price to the point people were looking at the PlayStation 3 more than the Xbox 360 because the PlayStation 3 had more exclusives then the Xbox 360 ever had or ever will. Nintendo should be doing that with their Wii U instead of abandoning that for the switch don't do what Sega did Nintendo. Sega released the Saturn in 1995 two years later the president Sega of America's said the Saturn is not our future two years later they released the Dreamcast and sealed their Doom. Nintendo might go down that road if they keep abandoning consoles when they don't find something that works. Nintendo May be forced to become a third-party developer if they continue to blunder and abandon consoles their fans put a lot of money into. Nintendo's actually burning fans. there is something called fan burnout it is where eventually a Nintendo fan will say enough is enough I'm never buying anything by Nintendo ever again.( reminds you of what they said with Sega) Nintendo's so arrogant they have become the very company they didn't want to be in the first place Sega.

Ok Matpat, here's the thing about consoles the way I see it:
The only consoles should be Nintendo and here's why - PS and XBox aren't even really something different than things we already have, they are just an attempt at a cheaper, more user-friendly PC. Nintendo, however, actually makes consoles that are different than PCs in every way. With PCs it's all about performance and graphics, with Nintendo it's all about originality and unique experiences. Neither is better - You just use a PC for certain types of games, and a Nintendo console for other types. PCs are reliable and you always get the same thing, just with better graphics and sound, not that this is bad. With Nintendo, the graphics and tech specs aren't always the most impressive, but you can count on experiencing something truly unique and imaginative that you've ever experienced before. PCs are rigid machines, Nintendo consoles are experimental toys, and both have their purposes. Playstations and XBoxes though? They are just cheaper, sleeker, ergonomic PCs. Nothing special there.

derry maine A few things to say - first off, child friendly isn't necessarily the same as immature. Zelda games are generally child friendly, but can be very serious at times and games like Majora's mask, which is pretty much about being an adult trapped in a child's body, take immense emotional maturity to fully grasp, because it's about a time in our lives we've all experienced, but only if we're old enough.
Plus, you're just proving my point: ps and XBone are more mainstream because they are more similar to pcs, just more accessible. The only other difference is that they are way less powerful.
And ps VR? That's what you throw at me? Dude, if you want VR, do it on pc. May be less user-friendly, but it's technically superior in all ways. It's meant to run VR, current gen consoles just aren't.
And plus, sometimes it's okay if games are childish. I generally play very serious, heavy games on pc - BioShock, Skyrim, Life is Strange, and Dishonored for example. Therefore sometimes I enjoy just playing a simple game like Pokémon with its happy, cheesy endings and child-friendly story (except for abusive Lusamine though. I'm genuinely surprised it wasn't at least E10 for that installment.)
Want mature, good graphics, non-unique games? That's fine!! Play them on a PC, where they're meant to be played. Save consoles for unique experimental experiences unlike what you experience normally on those pcs.

I have a 500 GB Xbox One and the storage is crap because i need to install EVERY game i get regardless whether i have a disc or not, i only have 4-6 games on it and i only have enough storage for 1-2 more games. My 3ds i have 8 games for and i have plenty of room for more. The Switch eliminates that, just buy the cartridge and bam. Thats it. Its ready to play, no installing bs, no 56 GB of storage taken up

Those consoles released 2-3 years ago....If youre complaining about the prices, listen up: Nintendo sold the Wii U and 3DS for less than what it took to manufacture them: thats why the Wii u only recieved 1 price drop. They do this because they know that you're buying other Items (games) with the system, so their profit is off this. The Switch is actually being sold for higher its manufactuer price, this means that its price can still be dropped (that means MORE pricedrops) and still recieve some profit. It's called business. Plus, its cheaper than what the ps4 and xbox one launched at. And before you say "i found a ps4 for this low amount at this store!", yeah. Because its 2-3 years old, once again. This is actually one of the cheaper nintendo consoles, and cheaper than the good version of the Wii U.

Have you ever heard of Server Maintanence? that costs money. Nintendo's servers have always been free, but theres a limit on how much they can provide to be free without going over. Why did you think they ended Wii and DS online play when the 3DS and Wii U launched? Because they couldnt afford paying for maintaining servers on all 4 consoles. Having free online for the Switch would've meant a huge loss of money, and crappier online because of less money.
THE BATTERY IS SO SHORT!
The battery lasts longer than my phone, and my phone is weaker than this. Battery life isnt a problem as its charged by USB just like android phones. If you have a car charger, a power bank, or just you know. Dont run the Switch at full blast brightness with sound all the way up and power up to max overheating, then youll be able to make it last long. For the joycon, as stated, it last 20 hours.
THEYRE JUST GUNNA LOWER THE AMOUNT OF COPIES OF THE SWITCH SO THAT IT LOOKS LIKE ITS SOLD OUT LIKE THE NES CLASSIC!

Crazy Sword I like that one on server maintenance because that's what I keep trying to explain to PC Gamers about when trying to defend PlayStation Plus. i and my dad agrees that Sony has a right to charge for their online service that way they can afford to actually do maintenance on the servers and provide a much better online experience. but at least you can actually go on the PSN store and you can watch TH-cam on your PS4 without having to pay for PlayStation Plus. there's lots of free apps on my PS4 that I can actually access without having to get PlayStation Plus. maybe I will get a Nintendo switch maybe I will not. all Nintendo has to do is get rid of their stupid anti TH-cam copyright policies then I will consider getting one. George Tello I do understand that fact completely, but the thing is that people (including me) criticize other companies like activision and ubisoft for milking their series, and that is what nintendo has been doing for years now.
I think companies are so afraid of changing , because they wont sell as much as they usually do.
The thing with nintendo is that they try new consoles and do dangerous things but zelda and mario fans still go buy the consoles for the sake of the games; but if nintendo even removes those, it will be crushed.

Indie honestly I would be making new IP's along with the old IP's you know do what Sony did with the PS3 test the waters with new IPs. do them on a reasonable budget so that means if the game flops at least it's not a huge loss. all Nintendo has to do is actually Market these new IP just as well as their old franchises like I heard Splatoon was actually their first new IP they've had in years that was successful. honestly that's what I do if I was Activision they only have one franchise now and it's Call of Duty( if people stop buying Call of Duty Activision will implode) also Destiny if you count their partnership with Bungie. if I was Activision I be making small budgeted titles along with the big hitters basically don't put all your eggs in one basket Nintendo is actually playing a very dangerous game. what if people get to the point where they start hating your old franchises despite being your biggest fans? it's what I call fan burnout. Nintendo should be making news IP's along with their established franchises so if Mario goes bust Nintendo can fall back on something else. Nintendo is stagnant when it comes to their old franchises Nintendo was so focused on trying to find new ways of controlling the game they don't even want to fix their old franchises that haven't seen any real updates in years copy-pasted games. Nintendo sticking with what's safe is also going to be their downfall because updating the control scheme instead of trying to update what's in the game can be a problem in the future there has to be a standard somewhere the GameCube controller is the best controller Nintendo ever made. Nintendo should do what Sony did. sony updated their DualShock a little for each console they make. the only thing that stagnant about Sony's consoles is EA and Activision are allowed to release garbage on the PlayStation 4 I don't buy their games. I buy jrpgs I I love the PlayStation brand when it comes to their jrpgs. Sony is concentrating on making the game better and still trying to figure out better controls for it like Nintendo does. you see new franchises more often from Sony than you do Nintendo.

DaManWitDaPlan I don't care if you find my grammar offensive, this is about Reggie not doing enough to save the Wii U , he did not rebranded it as a Wii 2 to drive up sales , he let retro studios not make a triple A game and he didn't even attempt to stop the game droughts from 2015 &16 . Sony managed better with the PS3 and it ended up being successful and seeing Nintendo being lazy in the business and console side of things is really telling.

Crono Strife the only time that Sony or Microsoft added a new feature to their consoles were when the PS4 got the touch screen-like button on its controllers, and that's it. Every nintendo console had a major change to it; from the wii with motion controls, to touch screens with the Wii U, and more! Sony and microsoft make consoles to see if they can make games like real life, while nintendo creates consoles to innovate new and special technology.

If Nintendo switched PURELY to PC, their target demographic wouldn't be able to afford it (children and families). Nintendo was based around the concept of "Anyone can enjoy gaming", and making their products more difficult and complicated to obtain, is just contradicting their beliefs. Hell, I wouldn't be able to enjoy Zelda if I had to buy a beastly PC to play it, and I'm sure many are in the same spot.

I'm positive that if Nintendo were to produce games for Windows or Mac that they would make an effort for those games to have low minimum requirements. Cheap 300-400$ netbooks likely have better specs than the Wii u

I was hardset on buying a switch on a yearand a half of saved money, but then they said it was pay to play AFTER already buying it, and I wouldn't be able to use the console I worked hard to get.
Reggie has a good point. If I just want the best graphics card, I can play on my PC. Consoles are not PCs and they shouldn't try to be. Consoles should offer something different than a PC.
You cannot play Nintendo franchises on PC. Their competition is using PC hardware. PS4 Pro/XBOX One S, have borderline mid-range hardware, whereas the Switch is a NVidia tablet, there is a big difference.
Consoles need to supply games, they don't need to reinvent the wheel. Nintendo has difficulty supplying third-party games, due to problematic hardware. The gimmicks cause difficulty in programming software and the inferior hardware forces bad quality ports.
That is not the point I am making at all. I don't own an Xbox One or PS4, and I probably never will. As you said, they're basically PCs with controllers. I can plug a controller into my PC and have virtually the same experience but in an upgradeable system with a proper keyboard. Half the attraction of the switch is the games I can play and the other half is the way I can play them. Motion sensors, cameras built into the controlers and other sensors give the switch controller new ways of playing that I can't get out of a console that just wants to focus on tech. The switch will have games that just can't exist on other systems and that's a good thing. It expands the realm of possible games positively.

Imagine what if you could play Pokémon gens 6-7 on your phone? What if Nintendo made a controller that works on phones (it's possible, it's been done before), but it was optional? Android is powerful enough to run Pokémon Sun and Moon, and I won't be surprised if iOS is, too.
I know that having Pokemon gens 1-5 always available to you is very convenient and fun (Drastic is a DS emulator which works really well on Android, and GBA+GBC are even easier). Why does Nintendo have to prevent people from running gens 6-7?
Also, what if Nintendo needed to spend $0 a year on developing the software so that it's difficult to emulate? (Because I'm sure that they do a lot to prevent emulation) What if Nintendo just threw that care away, while increasing their profits?
