I never understood why people say the music of Ronnie when talking about Skynyrd every single guy in that bands music they were musical geniuses!! It wasn't just Ronny

    • @dianakesl1814

Right. Ronny was just the vocals and bouncer. Allen, Gary and Ed were the main song writers. They would come up with progressions and Ronny would come up with lyrics for them. And they were damn good at it too. So many cool songs. We used to see them at the U of F auditorium for $.50 cents some weekends. (Rusty)

@@chuckydall9250 David, living in Gainesville we saw a lot of great musicians. Tom Petty and Stephen Stills went to my high school. Rick Medlocke and Blackfoot was the house band at "DUBS Steer Room" for awhile. I even saw Joe Walsh when he was in Iron Butterfly. I believe it was his three piece power group but it was 55 years ago and I was toasted most of the time going to see bands. (Rusty)

Scott !!! Iconic Riff !!! And your tone, feel ... if you close your eyes sounds like you're listening to the boys themselves. Bravo for honoring them especially now that we lost Gary also. Man what a humble unsung master. The other "King" who made sublime perfection sound effortless. Allen & Steve, man their fingers just spoke for themselves. Thanks for doing these !!!

When I first started playing at age 12 way back in 1975, Skynard was one of the bands that played the music that motivated me to pick up guitar. Back then you learned by ear, picking up the phonograph needle and dropping it where the part you wanted to learn began. I have managed to play off and on that entire time. I really got back into it because of awesome TH-camrs like Scott. Now I can play parts I my ear could never pick up. Thanks, Scott!

Thanks Scott! I've been trying to get those fills right for two days. Lynyrd Skynyrd was a little bit before my time. But my Dad was a huge Skynyrd fan, so I started listening to them when I was a kid. I grew up in the eighties, so I mostly learned the eighties Rock, Hair Bands if you will. But for the past month I've been learning Skynyrd tunes, and there's so much going on it's hard separating each guitar part, then try to take the main parts and construct down to one guitar and still sound good. They may have been a bit before my time, but man was they twenty years ahead of their time. Very rare having so much talent in one band, not just the guitar players, but the entire band was amazing. When you start working up Skynyrd tunes you realize just how good they really were and are. They must have fed off one another to no end. But anyway, thanks for the lesson.

Really digging your TH-cam videos Scott..you really help me out man..I’m serious when I say your the only guy on here that knows 100% what’s going on...any how through all my years of playing and all the guitars 🎸 and setups I have played which is many...nailing Ed’s Steve’s and Allen’s tones have been right on... but Gary’s!! Almost impossible..only thing I can think of it’s the old wood of that 59..cause I have yet to hear anyone come close...of course Gary doesn’t sound like Gary nomore sooo 🤷🏻‍♂️.. he has a hollowed out midrange tone that I just can’t duplicate 🤷🏻‍♂️

WOW! That is fantastic! What a wonderful treat for us.
Thank You so much Scott for taking the time to make this video and also for your generosity in passing this knowledge onto all aspiring players.
Been fixating on this song for the last three plus months, Just Listening very carefully, and paying attention to all the subtleties that go into the song, now watching this I have a much better understanding of what is going on and try to replicate.
The little nuances in tone and various dynamics employed is what makes some songs just mind blowing, case in point. Unless one is very gifted, which I'm not, some of these things would be almost impossible to figure out.
    Thanks again!

You said Studio One in Atlanta, Its actually in Doraville, I live in Doraville, Been living here for over 40 years. When I was in my teens I worked for a company that was two businesses down from Studio One. One day, during lunch, we were in the back parking lot that we shared with the studio when a couple of guys came out of the back door of the studio to get something from a van. We started talking to them and I asked if we could check out the studio. They were like hell yeah come on in. Gave us about a 20 minute tour. Took us in the control room where this giant mixer was, showed us all the gold records they had on the wall. A number of great bands recorded there, Atlanta Rhythm Section being one of them. The neighborhood that I live in is right down the road from the studio, maybe a half mile. The neighborhood is like a giant "U" coming off of Oakcliff Rd and circling back. I Often wonder if sometimes, when they were at the studio recording and need to kill some time, riding around smoking one, they might have drove through my neighborhood, right past my house.

Thank you, David. I appreciate your feedback. Also something I didn’t even know I could do til lately is slow the speed of a TH-cam video down. Comes in handy. It’s good ear training as well to go after those notes you hear without knowing exactly where they are. It does help to see the general area of the neck they are being played. I will definitely work on my camera angles. Trying to figure all this video stuff out 🤪 Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼

Scott, Sounds fantastic! I am learning Give me 3 steps rights now (got a long way to go on it) and may try to learn Saturday Night Special too. Just got a Ditto looper pedal. This song may be a great way to break it in! Could you tell me what pedal (Slap Back ?) pedal you are using? Again thanks for the lesson. Really excellent!

I’m using one of the many in my Kemper. Any one will do. Boss is a good one.

Scott one day if you have a chance I would like to see a tutorial on Diary of a working man by Blackfoot. I am also a huge fan of the music you already play. Never could find a good lesson for diary of a workin man anywhere. Im sure that you could pull it off. Southern Rock forever!!! Thanks, Troy J

I was just going to ask the same question. Could you do a gear run down for example what you stepping on for pedals and perhaps the settings. Would be cool to see how you get your fantastic tones. Thanks for the videos.

Great video Scott. One question, are you playing with the pickup selector in the 2nd position?

    • @seraines
      @seraines  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I am. Blended bridge and middle pickups.

Thanks SOOO much for the lesson! It really is awesome to have an actual band member take the time to give something like this to the fans and we really appreciate it more than I'll bet you know. I'm having trouble getting the slap back delay to sound right on my Kemper. I hate to ask but could you post the correct delay settings or even better share the profile? Either way, thanks so very much for the amazing lesson!

Hey Scott. I'm a relatively new youtuber (just crossed 1000 subs) and I was looking for a good lesson on Saturday Night Special and I came across this. I actually saw you guys live last year! You played right down the road from my in my small town of Canton, GA (it was the show that had the wrestling ring in the background). Anyway, it's pretty cool that I found you. I'm planning on doing a video on chord riffs. I was going to use SNS. If you want me to give your channel a shout out, I'd be happy too (I have a video that went a little viral so I've been picking up a lot of views lately). It's totally up to you. Have a great day!

Sounds good Scott. I'll mention you and link your channel in the description. I'll hit you back when I upload the video if you're interested in watching it. BTW, the combination of your incredible playing and first hand accounts of Ed and company makes for a truly enjoyable video (probably my two favorite things about doing this is teaching and swapping classic rock stories with people, albeit most of mine aren't first hand!). Now there's extra pressure to play the SNS riff accurately. LOL. Not like anyone let's you get away with it anyway. Take care.

Hi Scott. This is awesome I used to play this in my band Roadhouse in the 90s but I’ll admit I learned a few things today from this! Do you give private lessons by chance?

Love it. Just watched the doc if I leave here.. great lesson no tabs or lessons I’ve seen show what your doing during that 2nd tricky part sliding from d chord to e chord, do you strike the b note on the e string then e chord again and then slide A to B to finish the phrase ?
