Lance Riddick was actively dying with an (expected) year or less to live when this scene was filmed. It fits the story and gives more weight to Charon/Riddick's death than simply writing the character off off-scene, making his death a minor, if integral, part of Winstons rage and determination throughout the film.
Tbf tho, Charon as a character did so much for John, it felt as tho he was the one person no matter what wouldn’t turn face on him and was always there when he needed it. The second movie, he watches the dog for John while he handles business. The fourth one, you saw him helping John fight off the high table. It just felt like that was one of his only true friends.

Charon. He is the ferryman in Ancient Greek mythology that ferries the souls of the dead across the river Styx to the underworld. Quite a fitting name for this character.

At this moment, the Marquis signed his own death certificate, and lead to everything that followed. You don't destroy a man's business (and presumed home), and murder his loyalest employee / friend.
not sure how this relates to the scene. Marquis is arrogant and a prick, but he isn't a coward. He really didn't need to be here and confront these two, he could have hid behind Chidi and the Harbinger. Heck, Winston is also not a coward. A complete weasel in all ways but not a coward. He came here knowing/expecting to eat a bullet. That he lost this game. I think when they destroyed the hotel, he feared they wouldn't kill him. as that is worse.
He was actually a spoiled child hiding behind the table. Much like Viggos son at the beginning on this entire story 😅 he needed the unrestrained power of the table to have the balls to come after Wick. They told him "dont let your imagination exceed your worth". He was being reckless
I love how in the John Wick unniverse, massive explosions and gunfighta can periodically occur in major cities without the authorities and public noticing or caring.
I heard it was cancer and that he told the directors or the script writers so he could leave the show in a more epic memorable way for when he dies IRL!
Barely a second passes but in the moment after the last grain of sand falls you see Winston accept that time is up, the shock from feeling the explosion, the realisation of what that explosion means and his anger that follows but he keeps in check. This is a master classic in acting by Mr McShane

It will outlive us all. Both series done with excellent taste in class for these two actors, which makes a series that much better, very proud of the way they treated these to actors in life to go out with such good dignity. Totally awesome the way they took care of these actors. Hopefully the younger generation as well as fellow actors in the industry, have learned a valuable lesson that money cannot buy from these two shows on how they treated these two actors with such high dignity and class. Thank you to all those involved for doing what is right, this kind act will bring in more positive publicity that money cannot buy, thank you for doing this.
