The Elder wasn't a member of the High Table. He was the one who sat ABOVE the Table. In truth, we know of only the Tarasov Crime Family, The Ruska Roma, The Cammora, and the German Crime Syndicate as members of the Table.
You forget Santino mentioned the Mafia , Ndrangeta, and Chinese as well.
@@TheDarkIllumination you are correct, of course. Thank you for refreshing my faulty memory.
Winston is hiding something powerful on John Wick though. As in, how tf did he knew about these duels if he don't have any connection within the seat of the Table itself 🤔??
I'm pretty sure that the Tarasov family doesn't have a seat at the high table
@@redtapex4091Probably just been around for a long long time and New York is the crime family hub of America🤷🏿♂️
The Harbinger also is missing a finger. This implies he was like John Wick himself, probably a VERY skilled assassin and attends very important meetings as an enforcer. Had John Wick been a "good boy" and played by the rules, he would've probably ended up like the Harbinger.
I can't help but feel he's some legendary assassin kept on a leash by the members of the high table, and could very well had been what John Wick could've ended up as.
Dude, you’re on to something. I love these mysteries and how the comment section Is solving them. Thank you
The Harbinger aka the Assassin Mr. Krabs. He kills for "money, money, money." 💰
Thats the thing, Santino was so bad he forced john wick to break the rules and was shocked when he actually did
Have to disagree with this theory. Chopping off fingers is how they swear loyalty not so much a punishment.
@@jaythekid4728The Actor playing the Harbinger actually says that John Wick was destined to become the Harbinger if he continues down the path (on an interview)
I really like how mysterious the High Table is.
keeps these movies interesting
Wait till you hear about the Width table.
@@nebuchadrezar101 I got a typing error lmao
@@phalnx2614 And now my reply means nothing.
There are no rumours. He died.
3 things.
1) the Elder is said to sit "Above the Table", meaning that he doesn't have a seat as one of the heads.
2) Chidi is just someone that works for the Marquis, not a head of a family himself.
3) I am also not sure if Marquis is a head or just a member of the families that was given lots of power to take care of John Wick while being expendable himself so that they woulden't louse anything if he died.
the marquis was from a noble family that soon turned into a crime lord and subsequently became a lord of the table. also the position he was given in the fourth movie was a temporary title of "autum imperator" which basically gives him unlimited power so long as all the other lords approve of it.
quoting the movie, he is the "mad dog of the high table", which leads me to think hes just a powerful crime lord under the high table
Yea no way young boy was gonna lead the table when he just inherited his own position
If you ready Hobbs "Leviathin", there's a notion of a Soveriegn, someone above the government but not part of it, to rule over it having no "skin in the game". so your first observation is likely that.
He is granted the full power by all 12 heads of the high table as he promised to kill John Wick.
The Elder is probably always a descendant of the original Hashashins, hence why he is above the table because they were the OGs
Would that make him the latest successor to the title of Hassan-i-Sabbah, the Old Man of the Mountain?
Yes I've seen this theory before in another video and you're right
This theory is interesting!!!
@@crimcrusader8459 Probably in a de facto sense, yes, though he has no castle or mountain to rule from in the John Wick universe to speak of (unless they did recapture both their castles in Iran and Syria in that universe)
My personal theory is, the last surviving Persian and Syrian original Order of Assassin members had surviving sons, and the title of Elder rotates between both branches in the event of a death kike what happened between Part 3 and 4
Man, if the rumors of John Wick 5 getting made are true, I hope that Hugo Weaving finally gets cast, and that preferably as one of the members of the High Table. I need another intense Keanu vs Hugo showdown on my life.
John is dead tho
@@supremedak_god619was gonna say that too he died bro. No matrix here
@@supremedak_god619 I don't know if they'll keep true to that. they show a grave, not him dying. - Whilst I'm not here to say he's not dead, I just want to point out that they fake it... a lot...
John fake his dead
@@inibehejosephIm sorry mate, but Keanu want John wick died.
I could be wrong but I don't think there's a rule against killing a member of the high table. In Chapter 3 the Adjudicator didn't say John was in trouble for killing Santino, he was in trouble for doing it on Continental grounds. If what this guy says is true then John would have been in trouble for killing the German guy for his sister because he was the head of his family and a member of the high table. It seems that the 12 members of the high table even as heads of their families still live under the same rules of the high table as the assassins do.
exactly there isnt a rule against killing a member of the table because that would also mean that santino would've been held accountable for murdering his sister.
I do think it's important to note that neither the sister nor the brother at the time were sworn in as members of the table she was there for her coronation meaning that when he killed her she was not actually at the table yet
@@mrgaarus1278 that’s true but I wasn’t talking about her. It was her brother and the German guy who were members of the table and that’s the point I was making. John killed them both and wasn’t in trouble for it, it was other things that the high table wanted to kill him for.
@@_Fulgur_ rem he setup John to murder his sister then played the revenge brother by dropping a bounty
There isn’t a rule against killing a member of the table, but for sure they will be very pissed if you do it. Especially when you do it on the continental ground. But the bounty on John Wick about 14 million dollars came from the camorra, not from the high table itself
The original order of Assassins were called "Hashassins" because they partook in smoking hash after a successful execution. The elder is the closest member of the table to original Assassin roots. Hence the name 'The High Table'. Or this makes no sense 😂
That would put the formation around 1090 A.D. Then their official dissolvement in the 1275 A.D and going underground would make them changing how exactly they would deal with world politics. They mostly probably exist so no one power is strong enough to risk the equilibrium of the world.
Since the original Hashassins went after both Christian and Muslim who were a threat to its own power. I like this theory.
That’s not true. The Jewish Sicari were formed FAR before the Hashashin.
@@benjaminwoodman I didn't say Hashasins were the first order of assassins. I made the comment based on the elder and his possible link, even though they disbanded around 1100. The High Tables origins are not explained in the movies.
well not necessarily, the high table is said to have originated during the times of the aztecs
The Thugees?
I hope there's a series or movie that shows John wick's youth on how he became a great assassin and how his monicker as the baba yaga got spread
"The Impossible Task" or "Baba Yaga" The Prequels? I would crowd fund!
The underworld of John Wick is fascinating. 😮
It has a ton of references to Medieval Laws and Practices TBH which adds to it IMO
Its fascinating, more over very very real..
These movies are beautiful to look at. Amazing cinematography, art direction, and costuming.
The writers basically tell you everything you need to know about the Marquis, Marquis de Sade, he comes from france. They purposefully train their assassins how to speak in each language without an accent or a hint of where they are originally from in order to protect their leaders who give them assassinations to attempt. I suspect that since Marquis is French that it's likely the high table and all of it's branches allow the leaders to choose the assassins they want from their histories and their completed jobs.
highly doupt that the bowery king is part of the high table, given that he told the Adjudicator to go "F themselves" in the 3º movie
Yeah, he’s clearly mid-ranking at best
The Bowery King is someone who sits beneath the table not at the table
Much love to the king of the bowery..
So helpful, thanks for this👍👍
The Elder is the one who sits above the Table.
Chidi is just someone who works for the Marquis.
I don’t think the Marquis is a member of the High Table I think he’s someone who serves the Table like the Ejudicator and the Harbinger.
I think Marquis is a title given to specific people just like Harbingers and Ejudicators.
I've only watched the movie once and it was a long time ago, but from what I remember, Marquis was 'hired' by the High Table and given as much resources as he wanted to dispose of Wick, he is not actually a member of the Table.
I'd like to think that he is a member so that he's death has more impact since johns goal is to kill all of them and since he's an aristocrat and table members are all gens of rich families but it was obvious in the end that he's just an imperator, like a chief commander
He's an actual Marquis it's a title in French nobility. The Marquis sits beneath the table and is not a member of any families we know of
Very very very interesting. Keep up the excelent work and God bless you all
The elder John killed isn’t the elder that he gave the ring too
Correct, Boy Wonder! I saw that in the opening sequences in 4.
Pretty sure the idea of the "High Table" is that at the zenith of the criminal underworld, all the rivalries and alliances just come down to a few powerful people playing a game of poker with one another.
Awesome explanation. Love from India , Chennai
six unknown people left? thats room for another four movies ;) YASSSS!!!! I really like how they aren't in any hurry to explain and use movies entire runtime to explain things in depth instead of giving me a cheap thrill which is easily forgettable. Everything is laid out and you can't understand everything unless you've seen everything.
i was hoping that John was just going to wipe out the whole table....
Haha yeah me too man :/ like a kind of real life live action DOOMSLAYER but against the high table. 🤷♂️
Yeah that would have been damn good. They could even release a part 2 for chapter 4. Unfortunately they killed him off..
John is crazy. Its about his wilingness to try and change his life that lead him down that path, and those who absolutely wouldnt allow him to do so, that made him who he is. In the world we live in now this is the ultimate weapon to keep one in chains and bound to markers through means of manipulation and degradtion, Contracts, most of them signed with out being read, before they are even out of their adolesence.
Now all we need now is a prequel movie called
John Wick Origins: Wolverine
Corny boomer joke
So youre telling me the High Table isnt a table where you get high and faded??
Grow up, lose your virginity
John wick the goat of action movies
Bruh john wick killed a different elder from John wick 4. The previous one from the 3rd one was a different elder
I actually think the Marquis was making a mistake when he was taking down continental hotels in the forth film. That kind of action had the potential of someone to plan a coup and made a martyr of Shimazu Koji for John Wick's cause. The only thing preventing such a coup IMO was the duel at the end of the movie.
Great job 💯☑️
Since the "High Table" has existed an millenia with 12 member of powerful family, does it have any relation to the legend of King Arthur where his 12 knights seated at the round table (also a High Table in assumption), each 12 knights represented a family (later moved and settled around the world in future generations as crime mafias). And King Arthur himself was an Elder at the High Table.
Maybe i aslo look at it like hollywood rubbing the illuminati and the 12 royal blood families that also rule the world in real life
No the video is wrong, its origin is with Hassan and his Assasyun or loyal to.
So it's not a millenia old.
Apparently according to the wiki its as old as the Aztecs so it probably dates back to the 13th Century the period when the Aztecs arisen and in the High Middle Ages (1000- 1350)
@@RvnWolfyup just a few centuries, the organisation itself has a ton of Medieval European and Islamic Themes,
from the way they use Medieval laws like Excommunication (as in the Medieval period a man who is deemed excommunicated/Outlawed/Imperial Banned loses all services of the State or the Church and his death is to be rewarded), Concecration (Church Ground is neutral growned so No Murder or Conflict is allowed, Robert the Bruce famously got excommunicated after he killed his rival in a Church) to the Old Man in the Mountain referencing the Assassins.
John Wick probably have as much references to the Medieval Period as Game of Thrones TBH, even the act of absolving excommunication and Dueling is metioned both are very prominent in the period as well.
12 diciples of Jesus
I can't wait for continental origins
if youre not allowed to kill a member of the high table but you must obey the rules of a marker, how come john wick is still compelled to obey the marker? doesnt the two rules just negate each other?
You ARE allowed to kill a member of the high table.
In chapter 2 Santino just put a bounty on John because while he was the one that ordered it,his family would have lost respect if he let his sister’s death go unpunished
John never actually got into trouble with the entirety of the high table for killing a high table member,he got into trouble because he did it on continental grounds
@@CallMeAdrian. It was a revenge case i believe, John could not come after Santino until his debt was fulfilled, John being free meant he had a right to come back for vengeance upon being force to do something he absolutely refused to otherwise it would have been forbidden for him to kill a table head
Or something like that
@@xGoodOldSmurfehx also i think john got off on a technicality cuz Santino wasnt officially the head of his family because he hadnt been coronated ,thats why if you remember santino and giannas father had just died hence he hurried to john to kill his sister on her coronation before she was officially the head of the Camora after the party
His Sister wasn't the head of the family yet, so she did not yet possess the protection of the High Table yet.
It's why Santino was in a hurry to call in his marker and force John to kill his sister before she could take the seat.
@@CallMeAdrian.You are not allowed to kill, but you can kill, just with severe consequences.
Sabtino's sister hadn't got her seat officially yet, it is why Santino was desperate to force John to kill his sister as soon as possible before she could take the seat.
3:15 Winston states Marquis is a member of De Gramot noble family. Your info in 6:08 for Chidi is also false. It was shown in Nobodys diary that the logo Chidi and his people wears belonged to Marquis. They work for him.
A decent amount is wrong. The Harbinger is called “A Harbinger” and is probably just an agent of similar rank to the Adjudicator. Similarly, the director merely runs the New York branch of the family and is not a member of the table, otherwise the Adjudicator could not compel her
Yup, also I don't think that the Director is the leader of the Ruska Roma, she may be the head of the New York branch of the Ruska Roma but the leader of the family was uncle Pyotr (which we never see) whose place was taken by Katia.
There are lot of false information in this video,
I was really hoping Hutch was going to make a cameo. It's the High Table because of all the hashish the hashassasins smoke..
Interesting stuff, thanks to author
It would be cool if "the elder" was a character that no one knew. He paid men that have communication with him to relay his words and ( in real time as they're wired up when "the elder" has official business, as in the case with Wick in the desert. impersonate him, and someone like Wick discovers this somehow.
Something like Ra's al Ghoul? Cool idea hehe
Your summary: everyone is a part of high table and can be part of high table.
I was really hoping Hutch was going to make a cameo
Chidi: we dont know where his group from.
*shows him following marquis everywhere
I likes the elder too.. elders quite relaxd❤❤❤
Like John Wick, Harbinger also has one of his fingers chopped off in his left hand. I notice this when he gives Charon a gold coin at NYC Continental. The Elder is kinda weak to me. He doesn't look dangerous at all.
Well the elder is the one in charge, and we haven't seen the elder that John met with in 3, it was someone else with that title.
When a youtube video needs to explain an action movie... that means a lot xD
Let’s not forget the Stair Master who was tasked with kicking John Wick down the stairs.
The Elder isn't one of the most powerful, he is the most powerful! The Elder was named "The one who sits above the Table"
It was cool to create a series about their history.
I like how they keep very little info about the high table. Makes it seem more like some evil entity than an organization, like the cartel in No Country for Old Men
a lot of people shown here were not members of the high table. They work or were agents of the high table.
The high table is basically the O5 COUNCIL.
Not millennium, maybe recent couple few hundred years, from my understanding the high table is control by 12 most powerful criminals organisations in the world, mainly from major power, japan could be black dragon society or Yamaguchi-gumi, China could be Tiandihui the original triad, US could be head of five mafia families etc. below them there is second rated seat as marquis mentioned in the movie. It’s is structured is very similar to UN I believe, the elder is very likely the representative of the big 12
It was revealed in episode 1 of The Continental that the High Table's origins date back two millenniums ago during the Roman Empire.
I wonder if the Red Lightning Tong would be a powerful enough crime organization?
European union had 12 flags
Had
I want this franchise to go on forever
There is a 100% chance there is goinig to be a show about a young John wick
The Marquis didnt become head of the table he became the imperator and was granted a ton of access to resources to kill Wick.
I dont think harbinger is a member of the table seat but more like a super prestigious title given only to those who sacrificed something to the table. Much like John the harbinger in the movie most likely gave his ring to the table to earn that spot.
i assumed the harbinger acts as Consigliere.
OG!
Some minor corrections: The opinion is that the Harbinger originates from the same group as the Adjudicator does, and is NOT a member of the High Table, but an enforcer who carries the weight of the High Table. This can be proven by the letter he gave Winston declaring the Continental New York to be "condemned". Winston revealed this to Charon, and told him that it had the signatures of ALL 12 members of the High Table. He didn't sign it, he simply brought it to Winston and gave him the hour that it would carried out.
Also, the missing finger is actually associated with the Yakuza Crime Syndicate, and it a physical way to make atonement to ones oyabun, or "boss, overlord, one over others" in Japanese. This often entails the loss of a finger, sometimes even an ear or toes to say "I'm sorry I failed". As for the High Table, it is modeled in Roman Catholicism and even uses many of its terms. Like consecrated/deconsecrated, excommunicado (exile, banishment) And the THIRTEEN members of the High Table. Like the 12 Apostles at the Last Supper. And Jesus Christ above them, but sits with them. The Elder is basically their "Jesus" but acting more like an overseer and tie breaker for a vote. He sits above them. Also, the High Table members must be descendents of the original founding members. Like the DiSantorio family they go back to Roman times and the fittest of their children inherit the seat. Unless there is a "dispute" to that fitness to lead. Also, the gambler the Roska Roma asked for a tooth not as a trophy, but as proof of his death. Settlements of this nature often require a "souvenir" of sorts as proof to the family, and to the High Table of the unfortunate demise of a member. It was the only way John Wick could be claimed by a family. And for punishment of the Table Members? Let the punishment fit the infraction. The director's helping hands? Paid in blood with her hands being impaled. The Bowery King? 7 bullets, 7 bloody cuts for penance and reasserting of fealty.
I watched all 4 the movies when they first came out. Santino D'Antonio made a mistake. He wanted a seat at the High Table so he ordered John Wick via a Marker to kill his sister. Than when his sister was dead, Santino D'Antonio placed a bounty on John Wicks head leading to the dead of Santino D'Antonio himself, killed by John Wick. If the High Table really have a list of all these markers, they would know that Santino D'Antonio "cheated" the system. Cause even Winston said it himself to Santino D'Antonio, when he was still alive, that Santino D'Antonio stabbed the Devil in his back.
If nothing else, the high table is arrogant. Admitting that Santino cheated the system would make them lose face as the organization that rules the underworld. This would ultimately have a destabilizing effect that could easily lead to the High Table being destroyed from within as trust breaks down and bad actors start using the semantics of the rules to kill other members.
Killing John is an easier and far less reputation hitting move then admitting that their own simple rules were not airtight truths.
John kills a lot of high table members without threats from other high table members so i don't think that's a rule. He just had to face the dead members crews.
I have a really powerful connecting theory, it’s a “Nerd Gift” that I have, by through the actors, you see in a slightly different wide range of the different universe, as you said this being the John Wick Universe, I connect that to something to others, to me John Wick is like a “Batman”, what was said about him from Viggo Tarasov to his idiot son Iosef Tarasov, “He is the man you send to kill the Boogeyman”, following that to the final one, of the main villain who afraid of John Wick, Marquis Vincent de Gramont, now actor Bill Skarsgard, in the horse stable he clearly showed a slight emotional response of how John Wick is driving him to to his insanity, even the way he dressed, similar to the “Joker”, and in Joker did he play of horror clown 2017 to 2019 “It”, which happens to be the Boogeyman of Derry, Maine Town, now you see where it all perfectly forms up in place of this “connecting theory” of mine, it’s all pretty extraordinary of one other film to another matches up, one actor being similar to another creature, matches up to words said about the other.
It's the High Table because of all the hashish the hashassasins smoke.
As Good as John was… I’m wonder why John didn’t move up in the ranks of the high table and become an agent
He got married.
@@newyorkpotioncastle I meant prior to that
@aljohntabion2751 he seems like a lowkey guy. Moving up the ranks isn't exactly lowkey. As notorious as John was, he still preferred a low profile and let his reputation precede him.
How cool would it be to have some representative of the authorities (police, army, whatever) to sit at the table? No innocent died in four movies and none seemed to bat an eye at public shootings, subway knife fights, carmaggedon on the Arc de Triomphe and so on. Agents of the law and order seem to play it very cool in this universe :D
I wanted to know how this started, but in continental series also they have shown the story of Winston.
I hope they will make movie or series new season showing the origin
Rules do not separate them from animals. Rules is forcing them to behave with politeness unless you're not inside the continental ground means it is like an apex predators hunting each other to become a richer apex predator.
outside of the elder and the guy john killed in the earlier movie, i dont believe any of these people are actually on the high table, but instead just operate for them
I was disappointed and at the same time very happy when it was all said and done and kept the high table and its members ambiguous. It allows them to continue with the story, and it matters.
Can you tell me the source where its stated High Table been in existence for over a millenia before any governments??
The High Table is the Actual Villian of this series IMO! What John did in JW4 is exactly what The harbinger said what would happen to the Marquis! JW fought the table and won many other Assassins Will do the same now!
The High Table is like The Council of 13 in real life
JOHN WICK HERO ♥️
Chidi and the Marquis served the high table they didn't sit at it
Wouldn't it be awesome if one of the families at the high table be the Peaky Blinders
Jeromy Irons should be the eldest elder of the high table.
I likes the "high table"❤❤❤
The elder has huge kinda like armies at the back of his tent in chapter 4.
I would love to see Don Eladio of BB as the head of the Continental Hotel in Mexico city
you forgot about Berrada, he operate the facility to mints coins..I'm pretty sure he also a big name
We are told in subtle ways through theatre what is really going on in the world.
The Marquis was never confirmed as a High Table member; rather, Winston asserted that he served as a conduit for the High Table to channel their authority and directives to eliminate John Wick. Chidi, not being a member but embodying the Marquis, operated as a physical agent. It's noteworthy that the Elder doesn't hold a conventional seat within the High Table; explicit information suggests he occupies a position superior to the High Table, seated above its authority.
Yes, Marquis was 'hired' (if you could call it that) by the Table and they channelled as much resources as he needed to dispose of Wick to him. I don't understand why there is so much debate about this when, atleast from what I remember, the movie mentions it clearly.
actually the remaining unrevealed six members of the high table are the Ridiculous 6
Harbinger is a member of High Tabke
Dam wish he would of said spoilers ahead cause I ain’t see chapter 4 yet 😂😮.
Its ironic the Bowery king uses pigeons to avoid telecom lines especially since his Morpheus character was so tuned into the internet & basically implied it’s the reason why earth was ruined to begin with in the Matrix
I liked it better when the assassin underworld was a mystery.
I thought chidi works under marquis de gramont as his right-hand man
do you use star citizen ambient music as background ?
@movieStein, please tell me if it's possible or not to post this clip on my fcbk wall. I mean how does it work.

I think the reason they're keeping the high table kinda mysterious
So there could be possibilities

The high table is like the Commission for Crime Syndicates around the world from Mexican/Colombian Drug Cartels to the Comorra/Cosa Nostra/Ndregheta to Slavic Crime Syndicates to Traids/Yakuzas
How does that old saying go?? Life mimics art?
I think the first high table memeber John Wick went against and killded was Viggo from John Wick 1
After watching multiple TH-cam videos was able to piece together what is the high table and the organisation structure in the John wick universe
The leaders of 12 organised criminal families in the world form the high table
In the movies so far
Only the Italian, Germans, Russian, Japanese, American has been shown
The rest of the criminals organisation as per countries havent.
Since there are 12 families - the elder serves as a tie breaker, presidential veto, the 13th man who can break deadlock between the families
The elder is replaceable as seen in the movies
(Unclear whether the elder is voted in from any of the 12 families or is an independent criminal family - thus making it 13 criminal families, personal opinion is that they are voted into power.)
The assassins all of them ( Wick, Caine, Zero, Ruby, adjuticator etc) are either affiliated to the high table families like the Ruska Roma, Yakuza
Or are independent who gained repute associating with the high table
These assassins grow in reputation and are on loan between many of the high table factions,
Which explains the big mystery behind the markers and their importance (e.g if a Italian family wants to order a hit on the Japanese family and will use the services of a German Hitman instead of thier own)
Which also explains the rules that killing high table members is a captial crime
But is done by the different families to become more powerful
The Continental (in canon) have been a rival under world organisation which over the years lost its influence to the high table and has become subservient to it and has to follow rules laid by the high table, but still operate autonomously
The entire bounty system and assassin services like cleanup crews, arms and ammunition, medical services are actually provided by the continental
( this explains why Winston and many of the continental managers have so much sway)
There are many independent criminal organisations which the high table are aware of, like the Bowery, who they tolerate as long as they obey the rules or won't interfere)
With the story line of John Wick, the Bowery and the continental threw thier lots in with John ( because...nugh said)
All in all , quite the universe, but hope to see it visual in a few more movies
By this logic John was a damned man because he couldn't refuse the marker, but was called to kill a high table member Santino's sister specifically sooo 🤷♂️
Anyone else like the previous Elder much more than the new one? or just me?
6:35 nice Breaking Bad reference
The antagonist looks like Vergil in video game devil may cry 5
John Wick would probably take down the entire high table if he was still alive, do any of these people really think they can keep coming after him? The people from the high table started this when that guy killed John's dog and stole his car so they started it cuz John was out when that happened
I think we have know only 5, When Elder died Marquis took his place as member and elder.
So they are in place.
Given that john is dead, I assume john wick 5 will be a prequel? About the impossible job Tarasov gave wick.
Someone knows what its the song from background?
What about the First movie, what is Viggo Tarasov role in the High table system??
He don't have a role. It is just John Wick went back to killing after they gave him his freedom. He broke the terms of his freedom. Same way how the Marquis demanded Caine. He also broke his terms. He went too close to his daughter
