    I have two questions:
    1) where do you burn that fir? Does it have lots of creosote when it burns?
    2) I notice you don't wear gloves handling that wood. Ever get splinters? My hands would be too soft for that!
    bob

    • @shanereynolds5971
      @shanereynolds5971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fir is about the same BTU as most hardwoods. Doug Fir to White Oak for example is 26M BTU per cord compared to 28M BTU on oak. By contrast, maple is but 22.7M BTU. All this means it burns hot and thus clean.

    • @scooterscat3309
      @scooterscat3309 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We burn it in our wood stove here in Oregon. Some logs can be pretty pitchy and cause creosote. I always keep a tub of meecos dry creosote destroyer and add to every other fire.keeps pipes clean.but i burn hemlock,alder,port orford cedar,fir,pine,sitka spruce, alaskan yellow. If its seasoned its good..the fir is a great firewood in the PNW.

However, I don't think it could handle the truly gnarly stuff I have to split! Looks like about a ten thousand dollar set-up according to the mfg's website...pretty good for contracting but you need a few buddies to go in on one to justify this for most people. Saw an experienced cedar bolt cutter lose tips of four fingers doing this up in Forks, WA years ago. Never, ever place hands on top face of log round when the machine is running, it will bite you eventually.
