The plot and villains are as standard as a superhero starter pack… But the characters, family dynamic, heart, and well-balanced humor made this a pretty fun experience and a nice surprise
I am Colombian and a LOT of the latin humor is SO ON POINT, insanely funny (specially the music). My favorite character was the grandma, that is literally every latin american grandmother. Very good movie
So many references. I think most of the humor will fly right past the non-latin watchers, but I don´t mind. It´s nice to be targeted audience for once...

They can definitely still do Blue and Gold with Jaime. If you've seen Mob Psycho 100, that's the route they should go. Con artist, master manipulator with a heart of gold mentor with somewhat naive, yet good hearted, mentee with god-like potential.
I loved it. Super standard, with an amazing family dynamic. Being a Mexican, I didn't expect it to hit me as hard as it did, but hearing "La Chona" in a superhero movie felt important. Lol
Similar thing with me. I didn’t understand “La Chona” reference but I got the “El Chapuline Colorado” one. The way characters would speak one sentence in Spanish but use one English word felt relatable to me. Some words I never learned in Spanish so I’ll often switch English for that one word.
I'm so glad they leaned into the colors contrasting each other between the villain and the hero. Blue vs Red instead of just a big grey bad guy vs a muted colored good guy
this movie was genuinely good representation, n A LOT of things really hit home w me. i’ve always gravitated towards blue beetle as i am mexican n my family has deep roots in El Paso. it was just so nice to see a movie catered to us by people who understand all of those aspects n issues.
That tactile feeling you mentioned is what i miss most in a lot of superhero movies and shows. It just makes it feel so much more real with the suspension of disbelief. Less cgi, more practical thats enhanced by cgi. Makes a huge difference.
This is the kind of movie they shouldve started the DCEU with. An interesting but relatively straightforward superhero movie that is extremely well executed.
It seems most of these things are up in the air right now, but I feel like depending on how this movie does it very well could be the beginning of the new Gunn universe.

Honestly didn’t expect to be so emotional watching this, but the family story and typical superhero origin with a colorful, comic book, culturally specific flair was really well done. I was rooting for Jaime and can imagine so many more potential stories that I’d be interested in seeing
I'm Brazilian and holy damn, this movie represents Latin people as a whole. It's very, and I mean Very on point, the family, the quirks, C H A P U L I N, the community, everything feels like a Latino movie made by Latins for Latin people, I saw myself in Jaime and in Jenny, Nana is my grandma, Milli is my sister, this stuff is ON POINT

The worst part of when a movie comes out that a large part of the public didn't like or hated is spending the next 3 months having my TH-cam recommendations bombarded with negative reviews or essay videos with titles like "This movie ruined cinema" or "BAD" with the tumbnail being a bad frame of the movie or the protagonist of the movie staring at you. And many times the movie wasn't even that bad, but it seems that people like to complain about movies more than watching them.
I know people love to complain it’s like their past time. Feels like every one is an expert nowadays. Yes it’s fine to criticise but don’t act like u have experience in the field.
12:45 Lanterns makes total sense since a big point in the comics is that Guardians banned the Reach from Earth which is Guy Gardner (who we'll be seeing shortly) was a semi-regular character in Jaime's series.
I really enjoyed it, it had some great latin american representations. Like, even here in Brazil, the references like "El Chapulin" or "Maria del Bairro" are things that most kids from 00s grew up with, and i could really relate to the family and community of the movie. It does follow a similar recipe as Venom, Ant-man and Morbius, and it works. The whole cast was really charming, especially the uncle. Hopefully we'll see Blue Beetle again, i think Xolo really nailed the role.
I'm not Latino, but there's a lot of similar values regarding family they have with my culture (Hmong) and even their views on the afterlife and destiny, so I really connected to this movie. The things built around it like the evil CEO and the other super hero tropes are whatever, but... This movie has a lot of heart. And I think that's what resonated with everybody who liked it. I only buy movies that I really like, and when this comes out on digital, best know that I'm going to be there to put it in my collection.

This would actually work just fine as fringe canon for the DCU because Gunn has confirmed that in the DCU many superheroes have been established and have been active for a while. Like Bruce isn’t brand new as Batman, Clark has been Superman for a short while, etc. So Ted already being Blue Beetle works because he **SPOILERS** seems to just be middle aged and trapped Ant-Man/Quantum Realm style somewhere in the post credits scene.

The family dynamic and character growth is great for most of the characters... I died when the Scarip stopped Blue Beetle from killing, honestly that killed me.
I don't want to spoil anything but as a Latino the movie made me proud I've been a Blue Beetle fan since 2008 ever since I seen him in Batman Brave and the Bold the movie did him Justice!
Yes! I watched Blue Beetle yesterday and even though I was completely enjoying it and in the story, I cried angry, hot tears that Xolo (at least) was ROBBED of his red carpet moment and his late night circuit. It’s his moment to shine. I hope the movie does well, but I hope they give him a proper re-release to give them a premier.
This movie was just pure fun, a last big action movie to close out the summer. It feels like it could have been a much bigger deal if not for WB's refusal to market it and the fact that striking actors can't promote it.
Being half Mexican and half puertorrican really made me appreciate the movie more, like I understood all the references and the locations they shot the movie on are places I drive by almost every day
This movie was so much fun and was so heavily review bombed on IMBD, it’s ridiculous. It hit close to home as a Hispanic comic fan and it really set up Xolo Maridueña as a great addition to whatever DC does next.
Nando talks about how we're not sure if superhero fatigue is a real thing.... I would argue Blue Beetles might be the first 'true' victim of Superhero fatigue. Not necessarily but possibly. Because having seen the movie, it doesn't do anything AMAZING, but it also doesn't do anything wrong, and it is a lot of fun. I think the number one reason people aren't seeing this is, they're tired of Superhero films and this doesn't bring anything that new to the formula. Of course that's not the only factor, happening during the writers/actors strike means they can't promote it the way a movie would normally get promoted. But the fact that this movie is dying on the vine seems to be because people don't want to invest in another superhero.
Funny you mention people on their phones in the cinemas. I went to see TMNT Mutant Mayhem as an early birthday celebration (turned 22 on Wednesday), and there was one guy who was on his phone for a good third of the film. He was a grown ass man just looking through Google Maps on his phone, very distracting. And this is in the UK, so clearly it's not just a problem with the US.
This movie really felt like it was written by a bot. They just fed it every spiderman movie, the Flash and then fast and the furious for the Hispanic aspect and boom you've got a blue Beetle.
If they wanted to do a Blue Beetle movie again later on it would actually be insanely different i think given how closely James Gunn wants to stick to the comics. Victoria Kord and Jenny Kord are movie only creations. Jaime's family while they do play a major part in his stories his friends (who arent in the movie) often play much more of one. But the biggest change from comics is the scarab it's a parasite that wants to overtake him to pave the way for an alien invasion. And that makes for alot of interesting relationship dynamics with other heroes in dc because of that, namely the Lanterns think he is a threat that has to be killed on site. Jaime is Jaime in this movie and the legacy is there but outside of that it's very very different to his stories
They could always do a SHODAN in future movies with the parasite hiding ulterior motive and had Jaime fully trusting it while someone he doesn't know is trying to kill him for it
Same here mate, I rlly liked this movie. As a DC, it would be amazing to see BB with the teen titans in the future. The action was good, acting was decent , Xolo was great as Jamie, the villains were generic but that’s fine. A simple linear storyline.
I watched the film today. It was really good, it wasn't flawless, but man oh man was it still a very satisfyingly fun and solid film. You could make the argument it's premise and villains are the standard superhero movie starter pack, but it's heart is still in the right place, as the films characters, message, heart felt and emotional moments, the well-balanced humor, the family dynamic, and our main character, as well as his story, character arc/journey, and his chemistry with our female lead still hit the beats it needs to extremely well, and in my opinion, still makes the film more the worth seeing and makes it one of the better superhero/comicbook films to be released in recent memory, and an overall nice surprised. Not to mention, it reminded me that superhero movies that aren't Spiderman, Batman, or Gaurdians of the Galaxy can still be good, if not great, if actual love and care is put into them. I seriously hope James Gunn retcons this into being the first film of the DCU, Superman Legacy can still be it's true start of the first Chapter, but Blue Beetle should be the first project along with Waller and Creature Commandos as a Prologue to this universe. Which I personally believe Waller and Creature Commandos are by the way, in case anyone was wondering, no keeping the actor and nothing else, i mean actually make the film canon. Anyways, it's solid 8/10. Also, George Lopez is funny as always, and Jenny Kord is extremely hot. Also, also, you can still have Jenny and Ted Kord and have Booster Gold, hopefully played by Ryan Gosling.

I took a couple of friends to see it for one of their birthdays, and we were all thoroughly entertained. Xolo is great, but anybody who has seen Cobra Kai knows that.
Itd make sense to put him in lanterns. I haven't seen this yet, so maybe it wont work, but in comics and YJ the scarab is from a race that are essentially at war with the lantern corps
I've not seen the movie yet, I will on Wednesday, but I kinda hope to see Jaime in Peacemaker since John Cena's character plays a very important role in the '06 Blue Beetle comic run
Given the history of Blue Beetle across the decades, this movie stealing a bunch of things from the Spider-Man, Venom, X-Men, and Iron Man movies is the most appropriate thing. Blue Beetle is all about stealing stuff from other superhero tropes and thats one of the most endearing things about the character/legacy.
The beetle itself came out at the time of Batman and he is very similar, this thing of "stealing" when it comes to comics is a delicate discussion and cannot remain in common sense
@HellboyBr11 Victor Fawcet and much of the early Blue Beetle team would openly talk about how Blue Beetle was intended as a rip off of the Green Hornet, Steve Ditko would say that Ted was "the Spider-Man book Marvel wasn't making anymore", the JLI writers considered the name "Blue Beetle" to be so diritive that they felt he had to be parody. I adore the character but inspiration/blatant ripping off of other characters has a long and storied history with the Blue Beetle
I liked aspects of it for sure, it was a little formulaic at times but I think a sequel is where this character are really going to shine. I hope we get to see Jamie a lot more in the future.
I think both the movie Blue Beetle and the character of Blue Beetle will be Cannon to the DCU the city he lives in and side characters will be in the new universe.
I think it's interesting, comics have always cherry picked from continuity. Mostly when a new writer would pick up a run on a title, they would change the status quo, hopefully without need of any retcon. But then sometimes you have something like Grant Morrison on Batman, trying to pick from the widest possible variety of the DC history.
It's good that they left Kord's situation open, that is, the guy could appear, if the entire Plot of this film will be used, I don't know, but Jaime's Blue Beetle deserves to remain in the universe
This movie was actually really good. Good story about family , good scene. The villain carefax didn't have any major lines but reminded me of Bane from dark Knight rises. All I'll says is " child soldier, and the cooperate war machine" They weren't afraid to lay out some death. Unlike recently movies 80 theme and feel gave me tron legacy vibes and I loved it. 8/10 solid
Booster Gold can time travel, so I see no reason why Ted couldn't be a younger version of himself that Booster pals around with predominantly in the upcoming show.
After watching Blue Beetle I think Superman is going to take place about 25 years ago. They referenced the original Blue Beetle a lot. I think Gunn said Blue Beetle was I. His universe because it would actually be taking place in Superman’s future.
*spoilers* this movie is basically ant man. big ceo is making a military suit for soldiers using the same sorta powers that the old ceo had who was also an old superhero but not anymore. so the daughter of the old ceo hates the new ceo because of what they're doing with the company. this other dude gets his hands on the superhero suit and goes on some superpower antics where he's freaking out the whole time. his love interest is also the old ceo's daughter. and they ride around in a special vehicle owned by a Latin American comedic relief that has a Dixie horn.
I think at best, this movie is for superhero obsessed comic book readers like myself a comfort food movie. Much like a CW tv show. But for a general audiences the movie will seem uninteresting.
I know family has been done to death...but in this case...it is done REALLY WELL!!! Crazy though, Im filipino and I related more to this film than Shang Chi (which I also liked but I have seen this sort of asian representation done to death in other films)..its just refreshing to see a positive family dynamic for a change and while the villains is standard affair, I went full emotional when carapax SPOILER ALERT!!! gained back all his memories and turned against Jenny kord SPOILER END!!!!!....Also, I love how blue beetle fights in this film..very tokusatsu super hero affair but it works so well...

I read it as a deconstruction of Iron Man too, because it did feel like Marvel phase 1 (in a good way). It felt like it went all in on what a billionare would actually do with power armor and that billionares don't save people, they just ruin peoples lives. And I liked the juxtaposition of giving the power suit to a poor latin american family who's life is being ruined by said billionaire instead, and getting the audience to root for them instead of getting them to simp for billionare superheros
Excited for your video about people on their phones It was always a thing that happened (we had a running joke because one of my friends was next to a person on their phone at BOTH Infinity War and Endgame opening nights) but it’s seemed to get worse When I went to see Barbie, the number of people talking or on their phones was absurd. I’m not sure if it’s more common with a generalized audience or a popular movie, but man I need it to stop. Blue beetle sequels Tone: don’t be afraid to go darker. Some of the best moments are when Jaime suffers. Don’t be afraid to say God. Who says “the cosmos”? Jaime prays biblical prayer at one point so be consistent. Having a clear belief system for a character helps us understand his thought process and relate better. Things Blue Beetle Sequels should keep in mind/improve: other scarabs which were alluded to in beginning space scene (I am personally more interested in more scarabs than past heroes); romance: Jamie and Jenny (Peter and Gwen from TASM and TASM2 is my favorite hero couple) find Jaime and Jenny’s similarities and motives such as career goals. Speaking of which career goals: what is Jaime and Rudy’s Jobs? Security? Inventor? Lawyer? How do they pay bills & food? villains: did any family exist among the previous security detail that was killed? Could their family/colleagues want revenge despite receiving life insurance from the very company they work for? Could they find a scarab of their own? What happens to Scarab when host dies? This could help bring Jaime in conflict with his family’s attitude to killing which contrasts with his own morals. Action: most of the fighting is great. keep it diverse even for fights without Jaime. For example when Beetle Ship crashes it could have shaken after being hit with an RPG so audience has reference when Jaime deflects/destroys/absorbs an RPG. Don’t be afraid to hurt or kill Jaime’s family. (We love them but stakes, realism, and Jaime might need it) show us how much pain they can endure and how far they are willing to go for each other. What are their limits/morals? Crazy Suggestion: Blue beetle could fight a yellow/red/orange lantern to show power scaling, to prep audience and Jaime for Green Lantern meets/fights Blue Beetle, and maybe Jaime learns a different/stealthy approach to take down a more powerful opponent.

My thoughts of this movie. The beetle-mobile was definitely lethal and BB definitely killed the guy he stuck in the roof. Regardless, I don't think he needs to be 100% no kill as Blue beetle lore wise is a planet destroying super weapon. He's new to the tech and can't 100% control it...when he's having fun fighting and just kinda showing off. Which is the tone of the blue beetle in animation within the last decade (Batman the brave and the bold, etc.). I think it captured the tone of blue beetle that I personally expected. The family portions were pretty cheesy, but well done. I personally find it to be a good start to a new DCMU. I also like the body horror of a cellular level connection of the suit itself. Yes, there's a couple deaths, but as a normal person in their situation, it's understandable. And Jaime telling the suit not to kill a couple times for it to follow that directive even when it knows he wants to in a specific moment captures the spirit of blue beetle I was looking for. The beetle, Khaji Da, doesn't actually care whether it kills or not (as proven by it letting him kill by accident fighting foot soldiers) it cares about the protection of it's host to a fault. Jaime is just a random dude trying his best and failing a bit. So a death here and there, I can forgive. He needs a better villain he can go more all out against. As his abilities are basically if Ironman, venom, and green latern had a figurative baby of abilities.
Best Super Hero film I have seen in years. Great characters, a proper story, CGI polished, tears, laughter, action it had everything! Cinema I went to was half full which in this day and age is a good result! Loads more than I have seen for Marvel & DC movies over the last few years (apart from latest SM film) Popularity and Comic prices do not make a good film.....Antman 3 and Wakanda Forever were poor IMO.......Solid 9/10 for me. And I'm going to see it again........haven't done that since the 1980's
As a fan of the comic the fact Nano doesn't mention Margo makes me worried. She was my favorite part of his comic and I really hope she has strong writing.
I just got out of the watching the movie and despite the weak villains and some shots being a bit off, I had a great time and thought it was a solid movie. The character of Jaime, the Blue Beetle suit, the Scarab, his family, the Latino culture and storytelling were all so endearing and engaging that it just makes you want to see more of them.
Ted Kord's Blue Beetle would have been in the early 2000's. Unless Jaime is in his 30's. Rudy says it was back when Jaime was like 8(?). I think that is the age, might have been younger. Assuming the movie is taking place in 2022 or 2023 that would mean Kord's Blue Beetle would have been active 90's-00's. We also don't know how long he was active. Just thought about that and had to share, because my first though would have been 80's-90's too, but I think it is much more recent.

It does follow a similar recipe as Venom, Ant-man and Morbius, and it works. The whole cast was really charming, especially the uncle. Hopefully we'll see Blue Beetle again, i think Xolo really nailed the role.
I'm not Latino, but there's a lot of similar values regarding family they have with my culture (Hmong) and even their views on the afterlife and destiny, so I really connected to this movie. The things built around it like the evil CEO and the other super hero tropes are whatever, but... This movie has a lot of heart. And I think that's what resonated with everybody who liked it. I only buy movies that I really like, and when this comes out on digital, best know that I'm going to be there to put it in my collection.

Yes! I watched Blue Beetle yesterday and even though I was completely enjoying it and in the story, I cried angry, hot tears that Xolo (at least) was ROBBED of his red carpet moment and his late night circuit. It’s his moment to shine. I hope the movie does well, but I hope they give him a proper re-release to give them a premier.

This movie was just pure fun, a last big action movie to close out the summer. It feels like it could have been a much bigger deal if not for WB's refusal to market it and the fact that striking actors can't promote it.
Including this movie I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad adaption of Blue Beetle, the YJ and Batman B&B ones are the ones I know the best and are cool.

Being half Mexican and half puertorrican really made me appreciate the movie more, like I understood all the references and the locations they shot the movie on are places I drive by almost every day
This movie was so much fun and was so heavily review bombed on IMBD, it’s ridiculous. It hit close to home as a Hispanic comic fan and it really set up Xolo Maridueña as a great addition to whatever DC does next.
Nando talks about how we're not sure if superhero fatigue is a real thing.... I would argue Blue Beetles might be the first 'true' victim of Superhero fatigue. Not necessarily but possibly. Because having seen the movie, it doesn't do anything AMAZING, but it also doesn't do anything wrong, and it is a lot of fun. I think the number one reason people aren't seeing this is, they're tired of Superhero films and this doesn't bring anything that new to the formula.
Of course that's not the only factor, happening during the writers/actors strike means they can't promote it the way a movie would normally get promoted.
But the fact that this movie is dying on the vine seems to be because people don't want to invest in another superhero.

Funny you mention people on their phones in the cinemas. I went to see TMNT Mutant Mayhem as an early birthday celebration (turned 22 on Wednesday), and there was one guy who was on his phone for a good third of the film. He was a grown ass man just looking through Google Maps on his phone, very distracting. And this is in the UK, so clearly it's not just a problem with the US.

This movie really felt like it was written by a bot. They just fed it every spiderman movie, the Flash and then fast and the furious for the Hispanic aspect and boom you've got a blue Beetle.

The tone reminded me of the live action Cartoon Network movies they used to make, but I would have loved this film as a kid.
If they wanted to do a Blue Beetle movie again later on it would actually be insanely different i think given how closely James Gunn wants to stick to the comics. Victoria Kord and Jenny Kord are movie only creations. Jaime's family while they do play a major part in his stories his friends (who arent in the movie) often play much more of one. But the biggest change from comics is the scarab it's a parasite that wants to overtake him to pave the way for an alien invasion. And that makes for alot of interesting relationship dynamics with other heroes in dc because of that, namely the Lanterns think he is a threat that has to be killed on site. Jaime is Jaime in this movie and the legacy is there but outside of that it's very very different to his stories
They could always do a SHODAN in future movies with the parasite hiding ulterior motive and had Jaime fully trusting it while someone he doesn't know is trying to kill him for it

Same here mate, I rlly liked this movie. As a DC, it would be amazing to see BB with the teen titans in the future. The action was good, acting was decent , Xolo was great as Jamie, the villains were generic but that’s fine. A simple linear storyline.
I watched the film today. It was really good, it wasn't flawless, but man oh man was it still a very satisfyingly fun and solid film. You could make the argument it's premise and villains are the standard superhero movie starter pack, but it's heart is still in the right place, as the films characters, message, heart felt and emotional moments, the well-balanced humor, the family dynamic, and our main character, as well as his story, character arc/journey, and his chemistry with our female lead still hit the beats it needs to extremely well, and in my opinion, still makes the film more the worth seeing and makes it one of the better superhero/comicbook films to be released in recent memory, and an overall nice surprised.
Not to mention, it reminded me that superhero movies that aren't Spiderman, Batman, or Gaurdians of the Galaxy can still be good, if not great, if actual love and care is put into them. I seriously hope James Gunn retcons this into being the first film of the DCU, Superman Legacy can still be it's true start of the first Chapter, but Blue Beetle should be the first project along with Waller and Creature Commandos as a Prologue to this universe. Which I personally believe Waller and Creature Commandos are by the way, in case anyone was wondering, no keeping the actor and nothing else, i mean actually make the film canon. Anyways, it's solid 8/10.
Also, George Lopez is funny as always, and Jenny Kord is extremely hot. Also, also, you can still have Jenny and Ted Kord and have Booster Gold, hopefully played by Ryan Gosling.
I really enjoyed it. Definitely one of my favourite live action DC films.

I took a couple of friends to see it for one of their birthdays, and we were all thoroughly entertained. Xolo is great, but anybody who has seen Cobra Kai knows that.

Given the history of Blue Beetle across the decades, this movie stealing a bunch of things from the Spider-Man, Venom, X-Men, and Iron Man movies is the most appropriate thing. Blue Beetle is all about stealing stuff from other superhero tropes and thats one of the most endearing things about the character/legacy.

@HellboyBr11 Victor Fawcet and much of the early Blue Beetle team would openly talk about how Blue Beetle was intended as a rip off of the Green Hornet, Steve Ditko would say that Ted was "the Spider-Man book Marvel wasn't making anymore", the JLI writers considered the name "Blue Beetle" to be so diritive that they felt he had to be parody. I adore the character but inspiration/blatant ripping off of other characters has a long and storied history with the Blue Beetle

I liked aspects of it for sure, it was a little formulaic at times but I think a sequel is where this character are really going to shine. I hope we get to see Jamie a lot more in the future.
You’re forgetting that Robin came out before Spider-Man and Spider-Man was kind of a combination of Robin if he a sidekick, and had his own comic.

Have been a fan of the character since the TBAB Batman show and I'm glad the film's actually great. Hopefully word of mouth makes it a winner.
I think it's interesting, comics have always cherry picked from continuity. Mostly when a new writer would pick up a run on a title, they would change the status quo, hopefully without need of any retcon. But then sometimes you have something like Grant Morrison on Batman, trying to pick from the widest possible variety of the DC history.

It's good that they left Kord's situation open, that is, the guy could appear, if the entire Plot of this film will be used, I don't know, but Jaime's Blue Beetle deserves to remain in the universe
This movie was actually really good. Good story about family , good scene. The villain carefax didn't have any major lines but reminded me of Bane from dark Knight rises. All I'll says is " child soldier, and the cooperate war machine"

this movie is basically ant man. big ceo is making a military suit for soldiers using the same sorta powers that the old ceo had who was also an old superhero but not anymore. so the daughter of the old ceo hates the new ceo because of what they're doing with the company. this other dude gets his hands on the superhero suit and goes on some superpower antics where he's freaking out the whole time. his love interest is also the old ceo's daughter.
and they ride around in a special vehicle owned by a Latin American comedic relief that has a Dixie horn.

I think at best, this movie is for superhero obsessed comic book readers like myself a comfort food movie. Much like a CW tv show. But for a general audiences the movie will seem uninteresting.

I know family has been done to death...but in this case...it is done REALLY WELL!!! Crazy though, Im filipino and I related more to this film than Shang Chi (which I also liked but I have seen this sort of asian representation done to death in other films)..its just refreshing to see a positive family dynamic for a change and while the villains is standard affair, I went full emotional when carapax SPOILER ALERT!!! gained back all his memories and turned against Jenny kord SPOILER END!!!!!....Also, I love how blue beetle fights in this film..very tokusatsu super hero affair but it works so well...

I read it as a deconstruction of Iron Man too, because it did feel like Marvel phase 1 (in a good way). It felt like it went all in on what a billionare would actually do with power armor and that billionares don't save people, they just ruin peoples lives. And I liked the juxtaposition of giving the power suit to a poor latin american family who's life is being ruined by said billionaire instead, and getting the audience to root for them instead of getting them to simp for billionare superheros

It was always a thing that happened (we had a running joke because one of my friends was next to a person on their phone at BOTH Infinity War and Endgame opening nights) but it’s seemed to get worse
When I went to see Barbie, the number of people talking or on their phones was absurd. I’m not sure if it’s more common with a generalized audience or a popular movie, but man I need it to stop.
Makes me feel bad that I often wish I could just watch a movie on my projector at home just to avoid the consistency of a bad audience member

Blue beetle sequels
Tone: don’t be afraid to go darker. Some of the best moments are when Jaime suffers. Don’t be afraid to say God. Who says “the cosmos”? Jaime prays biblical prayer at one point so be consistent. Having a clear belief system for a character helps us understand his thought process and relate better.
Things Blue Beetle Sequels should keep in mind/improve: other scarabs which were alluded to in beginning space scene (I am personally more interested in more scarabs than past heroes); romance: Jamie and Jenny (Peter and Gwen from TASM and TASM2 is my favorite hero couple) find Jaime and Jenny’s similarities and motives such as career goals. Speaking of which career goals: what is Jaime and Rudy’s Jobs? Security? Inventor? Lawyer? How do they pay bills & food?
villains: did any family exist among the previous security detail that was killed? Could their family/colleagues want revenge despite receiving life insurance from the very company they work for? Could they find a scarab of their own? What happens to Scarab when host dies? This could help bring Jaime in conflict with his family’s attitude to killing which contrasts with his own morals.
Action: most of the fighting is great. keep it diverse even for fights without Jaime. For example when Beetle Ship crashes it could have shaken after being hit with an RPG so audience has reference when Jaime deflects/destroys/absorbs an RPG. Don’t be afraid to hurt or kill Jaime’s family. (We love them but stakes, realism, and Jaime might need it) show us how much pain they can endure and how far they are willing to go for each other. What are their limits/morals?
Crazy Suggestion: Blue beetle could fight a yellow/red/orange lantern to show power scaling, to prep audience and Jaime for Green Lantern meets/fights Blue Beetle, and maybe Jaime learns a different/stealthy approach to take down a more powerful opponent.

My thoughts of this movie.
The beetle-mobile was definitely lethal and BB definitely killed the guy he stuck in the roof. Regardless, I don't think he needs to be 100% no kill as Blue beetle lore wise is a planet destroying super weapon. He's new to the tech and can't 100% control it...when he's having fun fighting and just kinda showing off. Which is the tone of the blue beetle in animation within the last decade (Batman the brave and the bold, etc.). I think it captured the tone of blue beetle that I personally expected. The family portions were pretty cheesy, but well done. I personally find it to be a good start to a new DCMU. I also like the body horror of a cellular level connection of the suit itself.
Yes, there's a couple deaths, but as a normal person in their situation, it's understandable. And Jaime telling the suit not to kill a couple times for it to follow that directive even when it knows he wants to in a specific moment captures the spirit of blue beetle I was looking for. The beetle, Khaji Da, doesn't actually care whether it kills or not (as proven by it letting him kill by accident fighting foot soldiers) it cares about the protection of it's host to a fault. Jaime is just a random dude trying his best and failing a bit. So a death here and there, I can forgive.
He needs a better villain he can go more all out against. As his abilities are basically if Ironman, venom, and green latern had a figurative baby of abilities.
Best Super Hero film I have seen in years. Great characters, a proper story, CGI polished, tears, laughter, action it had everything! Cinema I went to was half full which in this day and age is a good result! Loads more than I have seen for Marvel & DC movies over the last few years (apart from latest SM film) Popularity and Comic prices do not make a good film.....Antman 3 and Wakanda Forever were poor IMO.......Solid 9/10 for me. And I'm going to see it again........haven't done that since the 1980's
As a fan of the comic the fact Nano doesn't mention Margo makes me worried. She was my favorite part of his comic and I really hope she has strong writing.
I just got out of the watching the movie and despite the weak villains and some shots being a bit off, I had a great time and thought it was a solid movie. The character of Jaime, the Blue Beetle suit, the Scarab, his family, the Latino culture and storytelling were all so endearing and engaging that it just makes you want to see more of them.

Ted Kord's Blue Beetle would have been in the early 2000's. Unless Jaime is in his 30's. Rudy says it was back when Jaime was like 8(?). I think that is the age, might have been younger. Assuming the movie is taking place in 2022 or 2023 that would mean Kord's Blue Beetle would have been active 90's-00's. We also don't know how long he was active. Just thought about that and had to share, because my first though would have been 80's-90's too, but I think it is much more recent.
