"I have no regrets about coming in for magnets and coming out with, like, 100$ of yarn" we all felt that lol. Also "last and most certainly least" deserves quote of the month
Last time I was at a Joanne's I went in for a sew on zipper and came out with $117 worth of clearance (and on sale on top of that) yarn. So, I feel ya! Hubby says I'm not allowed to go back unsupervised, lol.
One of the pros of hemp is indeed the environment-friendliness. You do need to wash it a couple of times but then it's super soft. The muted tones are a trademark of hemp. Had a green dress in it, I wore it for years until it fell apart, so soft and gorgeous. Love your yarn snob reviews, Toni, I can't get any of the yarns here but still love to see it.
As someone that's more of a knitter than a crocheter, it's kinda nice to have someone to rate yarns! I'm mostly buying mine through Etsy and indie yarn shops at the moment, so having a gauge of what's happening in big craft stores is super nice.
i appreciate that not only do you give us your honest opinions on the yarn you are reviewing, you also give suggestions for best hooks to use (i never would have thought material like resin vs wood would make that much of a difference) but you also make suggestions for the types of projects that the yarn would work well for.
I work at Joann’s and there is another KXC yarn you might like called “bliss” is has different strands of 3 different fibers and it has a slightly fuzzy halo. Not crazy mohair halo but just a little bit.
I have a couple of balls that I found on sale. I personally find it difficult to work with but I'm sure someone more skilled than me could make something really cool (I knit, maybe it's easier to crochet with)
when the hemp yarn came on, I was like "ohhhh....... my yarn snob senses are tingling and not in a good way!" I'm so glad there's a raffia yarn now though. they make AH-mazing summer hats!
Your verbage is the most articulate of all the crochet channels I listen to. I enjoy listening to all your videos. Thank you for your very honest reviews and the research you've done. Your name may imply that you're a yarn snob, but you are by NO means any "snob" to me!!! 😊
I really appreciate the reviews you do, whether for yarn or hooks, or anything else. I love that honest opinion and upbeat chatty demeanor. Your vids leave me informed and refreshed. :)
I love that you color-coordinated your manicure with the first ball of yarn you used in this video. When I saw that I was - dare I say - tickled pink ;D
I enjoyed your review of these yarns. The rationale for your opinions were explained very well. I especially liked seeing your recommendations for potential projects using them.
I admire your unapologetic attitude. Your opinions are just that-your opinions and no one should give you grief over them. I'm still not a crocheter yet- maybe someday but I enjoy your videos.
I saw Nuboo in the store this past weekend and if it came in a larger skein size (and I wasn't on a yarn no-buy haha) I would have immediately snapped a few up! Great video, thank you!
Of the ones you reviewed, I really want to try the Nuboo. I have been dying to make your Summertime Tee, but I have had trouble deciding on a yarn for it. I live in South Florida and really wanted to find something that would keep cool. This might be the ticket. I also found an interesting new yarn at Michael's you should give a try. It's called Crème Cotton by Loops and Threads. It's mostly cotton with a small percentage of nylon. It's a "fuzzy chain" construction, worsted weight and super soft. I don't think I have ever seen a cotton quite that soft. Thanks for the awesome video.!
I love "Just Hemp" for bags and purses. Its amazing in a tight stitch for backpacks. It feels and looks like canvas in a tight stitch bag with a leather bottom and has really good stretchiness in a tote bag with some lacier stitches like shells.
I'd really love to see you review Viking Garn (Viking of Norway is the Ravelry name), it's a Norwegian yarn that I find commonly here in Finland. I'm pretty sure there is a UK site out there that might sell it. I've fallen in love with their Bambino Fingering weight yarn which is 50% Bamboo fibers / 50% Cotton but it is quite soft given what it's made out of. I plan on making a lovely shawl out of this with lovely spring colors. The color palette is wide and varied. I'm also making your Holiday Sampler Blanket with their Sportsragg Sport weight yarn which is turning out to be amazingly soft, I'm jealous of my mother-in-law who is going to receive this blanket as a Christmas gift this year. I previously made your Honeycomb Tunisian Ear Warmer for my boyfriend last Christmas out of their Reflex line which is 15% Reflective material / 51% Wool / 34% Polyester though the reflective material may seem like it'd make the yarn course but it really didn't seem to ruin it's overall soft feel. Worked great for the project! I also found another one of their lines Alpaca Bris which is 60% Baby Alpaca (ie Alpaca chesthair) / 11% Merino wool / 29% Nylon which is an amazingly soft (and expensive) yarn I plan to use to make my boyfriend a fox blanket (turning a baby blanket into a blanket for a full grown man is going to be tricky but lets go). I really really love this brand for some reason, though the company is in Norway the yarn is made in Peru however, so far they've yet to let me down. I'm really enjoying them as a brand overall and I plan to try many more of their lines for other projects I have in mind. I would just love to hear your take on these yarns since you did your Hobbii review! Hobbii might actually sell Viking Garn too now that I think of it! Either way great work I'm living for these yarn snob reviews!
I love Nuboo, too! Random fact: I was comparing the process for making the fibers in Truboo and Nuboo. From what I found, Nuboo is much more eco friendly than Truboo because of what happens in the chemicals during processing. Thanks again for your video!
I'm so glad I found you! I'm a fairly new at crochet and this real, in-depth and honest information is so appreciated. I haven't ventured further than acrylic and wool, and with this info I feel that I can try something new. Not to mention you're fun-derful! When discussing Truboo vs Nuboo .... "That's just how it is." Exactly. Thanks for the honesty! It's refreshing.
I was JUST at JoAnn's Saturday and I stared at that textile yarn for like ten minutes deciding if I needed it to make bags with lol I'm so disappointed I passed on it. Thanks for the incredible reviews as always!
I just have to say. I really appreciate that you work with the yarns on camera to really give us a feel for how it behaves! I also appreciate that you go through the fiber properties and what they're typically used for. Thank you for these fantastic reviews!
I just visited your website, first timer and WOW it’s so well organized and beautiful. I am going back to spend a bunch of time exploring it more. Thank you for the professionalism you portray in your site, videos and patterns. Many blessings to you. Namaste
I've been a subscriber for just over a year and I have to say I think your Yarn Snob videos are my favorite! Although I do love all your videos. ;-) I just love how informative they are and peaks my interest into trying different yarns. Kudos for adding pattern suggestions because I know I'd have no idea what to make with some of these yarns.
Love love love your videos. The yarn snob ones are so helpful since I can't with animal fibers, and I now know how to Fdc. Your teaching style vibes with my brain and 2 of my 3 wips are your patterns. Thank you!
I made some grocery bags with a different hemp yarn and had some leftovers and also made a face pad. The face pad softened after washing and drying considerably, and the bags are super sturdy and strong.
I'm currently crocheting fashion garments for myself out of the following yarns from Hobby Lobby: - making a flirty sleeveless dress from Yarn Bee's *Spinesse* in Red. It will have 10-12" fringe on the bottom - making a summer sleeveless top in Yarn Bee's *Bamboo-tiful* which is a 50/50 blend of Cotton/Viscose from bamboo.
Your reviews are a literal CLINIC on review videos. They’re methodical, fair and fun. I was wondering during your Big Twist Textile review if I could use it for your basket and *boom* you answered!
I love these videos and really appreciate you trying different materials. As someone who does not use any animal derived yarns I really love seeing other options, so thank you! I think my favorite was the lyocell yarn, looks great!
Hi there from SA. Just discovered your channel as I was looking for the Knit Tunisian stitch which I spent hours on two weeks ago. Really battled. 😀 Your tutorial is so easy. Thank you. That first test pattern you did was stunning. You did it so quickly. Love the yarn. Look forward to many more tutorials. Trust you had a great Easter. God Bless and take care. 💝
I'm a new subscriber and I have to tell you I love what I have watched so far since subscribing! I think today is the first time I've watched anything with the yarn snob tile but I love that you have reviewed it and given your feedback. I especially like that you have identified some projects for the specific yarn types! As a pretty basic crocheter just returning after many years of neglecting that hobby I am delighted to see suggestions on which types of yarns to use for different projects. I never knew there was so much to know about yarn! Thank you so much 💜
Truly appreciate the honest reviews, i.e. the raffia yarn not being as eco-friendly friendly as the JoAnns website might lead you to believe. You could have easily just given the website info but you took the high road to give the whole picture. Much appreciated.
I am excited for next Christmas - I'll be getting a Tunisian crochet set, and will follow your tutorials! Currently getting better at regular crochet but excited to try Tunisian crochet!!
Thanks Toni! I just bought some Nuboo yarn and was looking for something, other than the scarf that I bought it to make, and you’ve given me a great idea. Thanks for all you do!!!!
I went and checked the JoAnn website about the raffia yarn, and I can tell the description is a bit deceptive, as rayon is neither natural nor raw: rayon is a semisynthetic material that is made by chemically treating the cellulose from wood or bamboo pulp, so it's not natural per se but comes from a renewable source (compared to acrylic for example). Nevertheless, rayon is biodegradable and breathable, as at its core it is based on cellulose (I have no idea on the environmental impact associated with its production, though)
Hi Toni, the most fun "Yarn Snob" reviews on TH-cam, your play on words is hilarious. I want to try the Big Twist , that pink is calling my name, and that Nuboo is very pretty too. I wish I had a Joann's in my area but next time I go to a city that has one, I'm gonna stop in...I hope...lol. Thanks for the video.
I love your yarn review videos. I would love to see you reviewing michael’s or hobby lobby yarns sometime. I am not sure if you purchase yarns fron out of us online stores as well, but if you do, i would love to see you review hobium yarns.
this was so interesting thank you , I am obsessed with hemp but I know what you mean about the dull colours and its so lovely to work and feel softer materials but over all I love the strong character and quality of hemp and environmental impact , thank you ;D LOOOVE the nail polish and your T shirt logo ;D
I just finished making a crossbody bag with the Just Hemp and I have to agree with you, I don't think I'll be making anything with it again anytime soon. Although for the purpose of the bag it did work up to be a sturdy yarn! I almost gave up on the project, however, because of the yarn splitting constantly -- very frustrating. I can't imagine using this yarn for a wearable at all -- OUCH!! Thanks for another great yarn review, Toni!!
...this sounds like me every time I walk into a craft store. 🤣🤣🤣 Go in planning to spend $5, leave spending $100. I can't help it. I'm especially obsessed with self striping yarn. 🤣 I don't think they had it out at the time of this video, but the Big Twist with the strands of tinsel (for lack of a better term) is quickly becoming one of my favorite yarns to make cat toys with! The sparkle stays in the yarn well, which is something I definitely want when making cat toys, and my customers LOVE it! It came in all sorts of pretty fall/winter colors and I debuted most of it around Christmas time. 😊
Thank you, Toni, for this - I'm as snobby about my yarn, too, and this is very helpful. I was very interested in the hemp yarn for all of its eco virtues, and I agree with you that its best use is likely to be home goods. I've never worked with raffia, and was thinking about a summer tote and your review made deciding to give it a shot a lot easier! Enjoy the coffee ☕️😋.
I'm so happy I found this video today, I was looking online at Joann yesterday and was really interested in Nuboo and the Textile yarns. I'm definitely going to order them, thanks for the detailed review!
I completely agree with you about the just hemp yarn. I would get it and make the beautiful trivet pattern that you provided. I can’t imagine wearing it as a sweater or skirt. And I just think about the 80s with the hemp bracelets that were popular. I don’t believe those ever softened up.
You remind me of me! Another lifetime ago, I went to my local sewing shop looking for some sequins. I came out of the shop without sequins (they didn’t have any!) but I took home a brand new Husqvarna sewing machine! 🤔😲😂
I bought Just Hemp for washcloths. I used my Denise Tunisian hook 6.5 and it was rough going. The finished product get REALLY STIFF once you wet it, but after a couple of rounds in the washer/dryer it’s actually very soft. Con: It shrinks A LOT! Nearly an inch all around, so plan for that. Color didn’t fade, though, so that’s good! Pro: If you need a good exfoliating washcloth, Just Hemp is your yarn 🧶
I think with the hemp fiber will act a lot like linen if you've ever worked with it before. Linen isn't peprsonally the comfiest to knit with but has had wonderful pay off once it's broken in and while I work with it I put lanolin on my hands to put some soft oils into it as I am knitting.
I really appreciate your review. I watch the Shi Show and have been really curious about Nuboo .... since have been running commercials for it. So thank you
I've used that hemp from Lion Brand before, Toni is spot on about it's texture and roughness. That being said I think combining it with a softer material like cotton would go a long way to softening it up. That tends to be the practice in general for making clothes with hemp.
I just finished crocheting a sun hat with the K+C Raffia and two of the three cakes had the yarn knotted together in the middle and one cake had a break in the center of the cake. Other than that, the sun hat came out beautiful.
More mature now from last years review. Love it!! Thank you for this can’t wait to buy my 100 dollars worth on my trip to Joannas this afternoon. I would love to see a video of the yarns you like working with now as compared to say last year to see the evolution of yarn on the market.
Wow! I must have totally missed the hemp option in my local store. That might be a great alternative to cotton for outdoor slipper shoes. Better durability. Those as a former hemp jewelry maker, it would probably need some working in to keep from chafing feet.
I love those earrings 🤩 Rayons are all pretty bad for the environment. They use a lot of water in processing. Not the worst in the grand scheme of things, but not the best either. I love your response to Nuboo vs Truboo 🤣
I love these videos! I have learned to much and expanded my collection because of your explanations. Plus you always share techniques and hooks to use! I hope you will review some more!!
That rafia might work better with a bigger hook. I made a bag with similar yarn from hobium, with a 8mm hook and that worked fine, so maybe it would work better with the rafia too. The hemp is really something you need to get used to. It becomes really nice after wash and then works well with clothing on skin, the colors dont suffer from wash. Well, they should not suffer, depends on how well its made. That Nuboo looks so good!
"I have no regrets about coming in for magnets and coming out with, like, 100$ of yarn" we all felt that lol. Also "last and most certainly least" deserves quote of the month
I was just going to say something to that order. I love that quote.
Yes that touched my soul!
When I got my job at Michael’s, my husband asked if they were going to pay me in yarn or cash. 🤣🤣
Hahah 😂
It’s a fair question!
That’s me working at JoAnn! I’m such a fabric hoarder!!
Same
🤣🤣🤣
Last time I was at a Joanne's I went in for a sew on zipper and came out with $117 worth of clearance (and on sale on top of that) yarn. So, I feel ya! Hubby says I'm not allowed to go back unsupervised, lol.
😭😭😭😭
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 sounds like my husband.
“Went to Joanne’s for one thing” famous last words haha
One of the pros of hemp is indeed the environment-friendliness. You do need to wash it a couple of times but then it's super soft. The muted tones are a trademark of hemp. Had a green dress in it, I wore it for years until it fell apart, so soft and gorgeous. Love your yarn snob reviews, Toni, I can't get any of the yarns here but still love to see it.

You should check out Bag-O-Day Crochet. She does a lot of yarn reviews also.
i appreciate that not only do you give us your honest opinions on the yarn you are reviewing, you also give suggestions for best hooks to use (i never would have thought material like resin vs wood would make that much of a difference) but you also make suggestions for the types of projects that the yarn would work well for.
I work at Joann’s and there is another KXC yarn you might like called “bliss” is has different strands of 3 different fibers and it has a slightly fuzzy halo. Not crazy mohair halo but just a little bit.
I saw that online but haven't gotten it yet. Ill have to try it out.
I have a couple of balls that I found on sale. I personally find it difficult to work with but I'm sure someone more skilled than me could make something really cool (I knit, maybe it's easier to crochet with)
“Last and most certainly least” 😂😂😂 lmao I love your reviews 💜
Love the snark! ♥♥♥
Just hemp would probably be good for reusable grocery bag.
I so appreciate that your sponsor bit isn't 4 minutes long like most youtubers!
"Last and most certainly least....." I promise, I live for your honesty!!!! 🤣😂😆
when the hemp yarn came on, I was like "ohhhh....... my yarn snob senses are tingling and not in a good way!" I'm so glad there's a raffia yarn now though. they make AH-mazing summer hats!
Your verbage is the most articulate of all the crochet channels I listen to. I enjoy listening to all your videos. Thank you for your very honest reviews and the research you've done. Your name may imply that you're a yarn snob, but you are by NO means any "snob" to me!!! 😊

I enjoyed your review of these yarns. The rationale for your opinions were explained very well. I especially liked seeing your recommendations for potential projects using them.
Your charisma is soooooo addictive. I am HERE for these yarn snob reviews. Subscribed! 💚
Textile looks SO nice!! I’m so glad you reviewed it! Nuboo looks amazing for summer wearables. Thanks for your impulse purchase 😂😂
I admire your unapologetic attitude. Your opinions are just that-your opinions and no one should give you grief over them. I'm still not a crocheter yet- maybe someday but I enjoy your videos.
Loved your reviews, swatches and projects. Thanks for your humor and honesty.
The Nuboo has such a pretty drape!
I saw Nuboo in the store this past weekend and if it came in a larger skein size (and I wasn't on a yarn no-buy haha) I would have immediately snapped a few up! Great video, thank you!
I love how you're being generally honest with the yarns, not many crochet youtubers would do that. Thank you!
I don't even have to watch the video to know if I like it or not. I love your videos! Thank you for everything you do 😊
I love "Just Hemp" for bags and purses.
I bet the hemp will make great market bags, it might be better than cotton wear wise
The drape on that Nuboo 😍😍😍 I’m thinking a sleeveless cardigan with some big wide stripes!
I love being able to “try” new yarns by watching these reviews 😊
I just have to say. I really appreciate that you work with the yarns on camera to really give us a feel for how it behaves! I also appreciate that you go through the fiber properties and what they're typically used for. Thank you for these fantastic reviews!
I just visited your website, first timer and WOW it’s so well organized and beautiful. I am going back to spend a bunch of time exploring it more. Thank you for the professionalism you portray in your site, videos and patterns. Many blessings to you. Namaste
I miss Joann so much!!! Hope they keep bringing Big Twist back so one day I can try it too!

Dollar tree has yarn now you should do a review!!! They have cute colors

I have binge watched "The Crown". I know I'm late, but I got hooked from the first episode, it's so JUICY!
I love these videos and really appreciate you trying different materials. As someone who does not use any animal derived yarns I really love seeing other options, so thank you! I think my favorite was the lyocell yarn, looks great!

Thanks Toni! I just bought some Nuboo yarn and was looking for something, other than the scarf that I bought it to make, and you’ve given me a great idea. Thanks for all you do!!!!
I could see crocheting rugs from the hemp yarn. I'm looking forward to trying the nuboo yarn, it looks dreamy.
I have not heard of hobium yarns. I will have to check them out. Thank you!
Couldnt wait for your review of Nuboo! As always, thank you for your review!!
Just happened to find you on TH-cam & I love your energy!! Looking forward to seeing your other videos & crochet tips & projects!
Absolutely love your videos. You are so helpful with info that is time saving when trying to get the good products. LOVE LOVE Ya!
That Nuboo in the salmon color is just delicious. Will have to grab some while it’s on sale. Thanks for showing it to us. ❤️
this was so interesting thank you , I am obsessed with hemp but I know what you mean about the dull colours and its so lovely to work and feel softer materials but over all I love the strong character and quality of hemp and environmental impact , thank you ;D LOOOVE the nail polish and your T shirt logo ;D
please try budget yarn :) i absolutley love the cotton yarns and they have so many cute colors
I've watched several of your videos and I'm now a new subscriber of yours! I love the content and enjoy watching you.
Hemp supposedly wears in and last awhile. I haven’t had much items made of hemp unfortunately but I am glad you showed us this! Thank you
...this sounds like me every time I walk into a craft store. 🤣🤣🤣
Go in planning to spend $5, leave spending $100.
I can't help it. I'm especially obsessed with self striping yarn. 🤣
I don't think they had it out at the time of this video, but the Big Twist with the strands of tinsel (for lack of a better term) is quickly becoming one of my favorite yarns to make cat toys with!
The sparkle stays in the yarn well, which is something I definitely want when making cat toys, and my customers LOVE it!
It came in all sorts of pretty fall/winter colors and I debuted most of it around Christmas time. 😊

I love it, went in for magnets, came out with yarn. I think we could shop for a tractor and come away with yarn somehow. Lol.
Pro: If you need a good exfoliating washcloth, Just Hemp is your yarn 🧶
....on my way to the magnets 😂, big mood!
Thank you for the great information ❤ 😁 love you personality ❤
Makes me excited to start some new projects ❤🌞
So happy I found your site 😁
I totally agree with you on the Just Hemp yarn.
I think with the hemp fiber will act a lot like linen if you've ever worked with it before. Linen isn't peprsonally the comfiest to knit with but has had wonderful pay off once it's broken in and while I work with it I put lanolin on my hands to put some soft oils into it as I am knitting.
Love your review style, it has saved me money from buying yarns I thought I might like, only to be disappointed. Thanks for all your great content!
New crocheter here and just subscribed to your channel, lover your vibe. Can't wait to check out the rest of your videos.
I absolutely love all your videos. Thank you.
My daughter loves all of these too
I just finished crocheting a sun hat with the K+C Raffia and two of the three cakes had the yarn knotted together in the middle and one cake had a break in the center of the cake.
Thanks so much for the tips! I'll be looking for Joann's store in my area in NYC!
Thank you for sharing. Definitely interesting on the yarns. Have a great day 🤗❤
Wow! I must have totally missed the hemp option in my local store. That might be a great alternative to cotton for outdoor slipper shoes. Better durability. Those as a former hemp jewelry maker, it would probably need some working in to keep from chafing feet.
Thank you for good review and honesty. For how expensive this is, it is nice to know what to expect
I love to watch all your tutorials and reviews!🧶🧶🧶
Great. I just purchased a ton of the just hemp to make a baby blanket.
I love those earrings 🤩
Rayons are all pretty bad for the environment. They use a lot of water in processing. Not the worst in the grand scheme of things, but not the best either.
I love your response to Nuboo vs Truboo 🤣
That Nuboo, though! The textile looks fun too!
Greetings from the UK. This is my first time here a new subscriber. Thank you for the feedback on the yarn. Have a beautiful day xxx
i love your video. super easy to follow your step and right now im working on your pilson blanket.
Hi, I really enjoyed your yarn review. I especially like seeing a swatch and all the information about each yarn. Thanks.
I love these videos! I have learned to much and expanded my collection because of your explanations. Plus you always share techniques and hooks to use! I hope you will review some more!!
I completely agree with your reviews of NewBoo & TruBoo
That rafia might work better with a bigger hook. I made a bag with similar yarn from hobium, with a 8mm hook and that worked fine, so maybe it would work better with the rafia too. The hemp is really something you need to get used to. It becomes really nice after wash and then works well with clothing on skin, the colors dont suffer from wash. Well, they should not suffer, depends on how well its made. That Nuboo looks so good!
