Crochet food is how i keep in touch with my granddaughter who lives far away. She requests certain foods for her "kitchen" and has only stumped me with "roast chicken". We play restaurant and hotel over zoom. We have salad bar, made to order pizza, full breakfasts with pancakes, waffles and eggs plus all the ingredients to make tacos.Recently I heard her say "grandpa you know we don't have chocolate cake, we only have lemon cake. If you want chocolate it has to be a cookie." Chocolate cake was in the mail the next week. When she was little she called me Grandma yarn.
@@Helena-tw7pj Super fun. Our game expanded from restaurant to a Hotel and she describes the rooms and sells them to us! "I could give you the blue suite for only $100 and you will get a free breakfast."
I question if the dolls are real or AI generated, though because on an earlier video Elise warned us if it looks too intricate or does not have a pattern, it is AI generated.
So not crochet but knit. My grandma made a sofa ‘nisse’ doll for Christmas (like the elfs but red) and it was almost the same size as me (ages 5) and i loved and so my grandma ended up letting me own her
I remember these from way back and my question was always "Why?" and who would ever think to do such a thing? I've instructed my family that if I should ever start doing this it's time for the nursing home.😂
11:24 I actually made this doll for myself to educate my child about pregnancy and birth. Then I made one for a friend who is a midwife who went to a country in East Africa. She went there to teach life saving skills to the women who assist with births in rural communities. As part of the program, they set up a clinic with a midwife. My doll now lives in that clinic and the midwife uses it to educate the pregnant women about their pregnancies and things that are happening to their bodies. My friend said the doll will be a valuable tool since some of these women might not have received sex education or know what’s happening to their bodies or might not know what happens during a c section. When she went on her trip, she emailed me pictures and videos of some of the women in the program hugging and rocking with the doll. You could see how much they loved it. The doll can give birth vaginally or via c section and I sewed snap pieces on the nipples and the baby’s mouth so she can be used to teach breastfeeding techniques too. I think about that doll often and making it has been hands down one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It makes me smile knowing I’ve had an impact on a community on the other side of the world.
Wow!!! That is amazing!!! What a wonderful gift you gave and are now receiving right back! I feel the same way about these toys. They can help children/adults in a concrete way understand what is happening with pregnancy and childbirth! I wish my kids would have had something like this! 🧶🧶🧶
I have had the honour to see and admire Liisa Hietanen's work on a museum here in Finland. They are really amazing and I just couldn't even think how many hours she has spent doing them. They are all works of art. So there's no AI involved. Just pure talent 😊
I knit fingerless gloves quite often and I love them. I live in Idaho where it gets quite cold in the winter. If my fingers get cold I tuck them into my gloves.
My mother had arthritis in her hands and had circulation problems, she wore fingerless gloves indoors all the time. I have thought of making some for working at the computer and crocheting, sedentary tasks make my hands cold.
At one point, I seriously considered crocheting a toilet tank cover. I had an unwanted houseguest who was fanatical about hot showers and the toilet tank would collect condensation, especially when it was cold. I wanted the cover to deal with the condensation. I got rid of the houseguest and the condensation stopped being a problem.
I live in northern Alberta, Canada. We get -20 Celsius in the winter all the time, and -30 Celsius is not uncommon, and we almost yearly get 1 week of -40 Celsius, and in there a -50 Celsius day, although we didn’t get that one last year. When it’s that cold, your nose runs. A lot. Those nose warmers will be covered in snot very quickly. Also, I find that when it’s that cold, crocheted scarves and hats aren’t warm enough, even with 100% wool, unless the hat is lined with polar fleece, or you have two hats, and have the crocheted one on thr outside of the inner fleece hat. Those nose warmers will be useless for warmth, and covered in snot, which will then freeze solid. They belong on the worst crocheted items in history list 😁
@leahbray1862 I agree with you, my northern Alberta neighbor! I live in the desert Southwest now, but I'm from Massachusetts. Our winters were cold (though not as cold as Canada's) and my nose would turn red. Then run. A lot. Wiped it off with my mitten. I can't even imagine wearing a nose warmer. Yuck!
@@EliseRoseCrochetTrust me, you don’t want to experience the winters here lol. Crochet blankets are vital for the evenings here in the winter, there are several of those around our house 😊
I don't think they were ever ment for practicality, more likely as a novelty/joke item...but yeah, I'd never wear one..a scarf or a cowl, lifted, will do for me...
Absolute worst crochet pattern has to be anything that goes on or near a toilet! Yuck! My mom used to buy the tank, lid and contour ensemble. I hated it then and hate it more now. I worked retail and I know they still exist! Why? Good video!
I totally agree, but I think the idea behind them was that sometimes you have to sit naked on the dreadfully cold toilet cover. Nowadays, I'd just use a towel that I can put in the wash afterwards.
I crocheted a parasol years ago. I was so very proud of how it turned out. I always say it was the most beautiful, yet most useless creation I ever made.
I live in Colorado and see lots of people using regular umbrellas when it's upper 90 degrees or 100. Parasols are so pretty, but I wonder if used for shade, that they'd really work. I know lacey crocheted shawls or sweaters are actually warm in the winter, so maybe parasols actually do shade enough.
The crochet barefoot sandals were AMAZING for my beach wedding!! 😍 I was pretty limited for shoes that would allow me to walk through the sand without a struggle… the thought of sand inside flats or heels sinking in the sand or my dress getting caught in a flipflop, the only real good option was barefoot but that doesn’t look super cute when you see my feet when I step.. so the barefoot sandals were PERFECT 👌🏻 I think the beach is probably the only real purpose for them, but for beach days they’re super cute 🥰
Fingerless gloves - perfect when working in an office right under an air-conditioning vent. Keeps the hands and arms warm while not interfering with typing.
I wear fingerless gloves at my job. It is always cold in there, but I work with computers and have to have my fingers free. When I’ve gone through the drive-thru during Winter, I often see the cashiers at the window wearing them. Definitely a useful item.
Oh My Elise, I remember I crocheted a Bikni swim suit back in 1970. It was a beautiful pale yellow cotton and it really was cute. I wore it in the pool and it STRETCHED!!! So funny I was so embarassed to get out of the pool. Well, that was a real lesson taught!! LOL!!!
Back when I was a teen, my mom loved to sew. She found some beautiful rainbow hued satin fabric and sewed me a cute halter bikini. I wore it on my first date with a new boy, to go swimming at a local spot. When I emerged from the water, long streaks of multiple colors made their way down my bare midriff and legs! Mom had not prewashed the fabric! I grabbed a beach towel and wrapped it around me! My kid sister followed me as I ran like a deer to the bathhouse. I quickly removed the suit and found that all the colors were under the bikini, as well, making it appear that I was still wearing it! My sister was stunned and tried to help me wash the colors off, but nothing she did had any effect. Even the comet scouring powder she located under the sink didn't help, only made my multicolored skin bleed! Fortunately, my mom was there and had seen our mad dash, so she came to investigate. She had brought my sister swimming and so she took us home (as soon as she finished laughing). Later that night, after a couple of tub baths in bleach, the colors were still discernable. I was mortified! I never spoke to that boy again and never went swimming at that spot again, either! Now THAT episode very nearly ruined my summer!
I sewed a bikini in my sewing class beck in the 70s. I was asked to wear it at the school fashion show for parents to attend. I declined so it was displayed on the wall in the classroom
Fingerless gloves are wonderful! I'm really surprised people thought they were useless, not only because of the things you mentioned, but they're great for reading on a cool night, doing handwork, or any needlework. They are also comforting, and you can still have your fingers free to pet your dog or cats! One of the greatest designs ever!
I don't know anyone who feels fingerless gloves actually keep their hands warm. They don't. Their fingers are super cold and their hands are chilled. It makes no sense.
People thought fingerless gloves were useless? I have a pair that I use at work almost every day! They are great when you have to type. But I wonder how the 70s crocheted beer can hats didn't make the list... good lord those are so TACKY!
I LOVE fingerless gloves. Also my partner likes them because she gets a little cold in the house but she needs to be able to type. I think they're such a fun thing to wear.
To be fair, my cat LOVES shredding toilet paper so we don’t have any on the holders anywhere. She leaves it alone since I crocheted a simple cover for it. I didn’t do it proactively but only reactively after walking in & finding shredded nonsense all over the floor.
Im a child of the 70's and aside from the bathroom sets, i think beer can hats are the trashiest thing I have ever seen. They were totally a thing when I was a kid. A quick google search will show you what I mean.
My mom would have liked these as her cat would sit on the side table and leave ‘little marks’ on the polish. Of course, her cat would probably not sit on it as it is a CAT.
I watch your videos while I'm bored at work, and I had to pause this one to take a call. I paused it right on that still shot of the horrific baby face tp cover. So that stared at me for a good 8 minutes while I was helping someone.
Fingerless gloves were on the list?😮 I have multiple pairs (some knit and some crochet) and I use them constantly in the colder months to help with the circulation in my hands. I couldn't imagine life without them.
When its -30F in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, you’ll wear them, and as heavy as you can find, and they will have fold over edges for your fingers as soon as you finish the task you uncovered them for. They are smart protection!
I live where there's winter, and I was thrilled to get a sherpa steering wheel cover as a gift. For exactly the reason you cite, I pitched it after a month of trying to use it. I would also add that it bulks up your steering wheel so that if you have small hands, it makes it harder and more fatiguing to hold on to. I was so sad to have to take it off, because it did keep my hands from freezing, but it just didn't work for me.
Yeah, I was thinking they're for cold climates. Because it's better than sort of not wanting to touch the steering wheel that much because it's too cold! Sorry to hear it didn't work, though
As a Canadian, a nose warmer is just plain silly. When it's winter up here, it is not just your nose that needs warming, so the conventional hat and scarf or cowl works better!
Crocheted bikinis would be on my list of “no thank you” projects! I love fingerless gloves! I live in NY and while I wouldn’t shovel snow with them, I wear them a lot during fall and winter. There are so many cute patterns!
When I was a kid my aunt crocheted a TP cover shaped like a hat. She sent to my aunt in Alabama as a gift. The week after Easter we received photos taken Easter Sunday. In the photo my younger cousin was wearing the TP cover as part of her Easter outfit. My aunt was so tickled when she found out that was not a hat!😂😂😂
I always keep a toaster cover on my toaster to keep dust and other unwanted particles from settling inside it. We have cats and ceiling fans are notorious for stirring up cat hair. I simply unplug the toaster when not in use and let it cool down before replacing the cover. I have never forgotten to do that.
The crocheted replicas shouldn't be on the list for a number of reasons. Its a passion project done by one person for her family. Someone put this on the list most likely because of the difficulty. Love your videos btw❤
They also are a work of art that might someday be in a museum as she has become quite famous. She deserves to be known as an artist. And also if your therapist tells you to make new friends there you go.
When my mum was a child in the 1950s, she had a knitted one-piece swimming costume, a bit like the underwear in your book. Pretty cute when it was dry, but impossibly, impractically heavy once it was wet!
@thegoodprintco OMG I just had a flashback to my childhood (72 y/o now)- I had a RED knitted one piece swim suit! That's all I remember about it, though. It couldn't have lasted even one summer vacation on Cape Cod 😆
lol, as a tiny one, in the 60's, i had a crochet bikini . my grandma crocheted it for me . don't think we ever went to the beach, but i may have worn it into the kiddie pool in the backyard ...
I had an old vintage knitting book that contained patterns for a coffee filter????? and a harness leash for your toddler. LOL Thanks for the fun video!
I made a whole bag of crochet food for my grandkids & they loved them. The twenty year old remembers them so fondly that we had to get the bag out & look thru them. Pretty realistic looking. No faces on them. Fun to make & the memories of them playing with them are priceless & worth every stitch. Positively should not be on the list. Fun video, thanks for sharing. 😢
About fingerless gloves: my dad carried mail in Michigan. Every year, mom knitted him a new pair of fingerless gloves with mitten tops. The mitten caps were knitted into the backs of the hands from the knuckles up so that dad could slip them on or off his fingers. He had the warmth of mittens with easy access to his fingertips.
This is my preferred hand covering here in Ohio. I can still use my fingers for finer things like selecting keys or using my phone, but I can cover them up when I just need to be warm. It's the only kinda of gloves/mittens I wear!
While I agree with your concerns about the steering wheel cover, I do think a light colored one would be great to keep on the steering wheel when your not using it, so your steering wheel doesn’t turn into an hot oven your touching in the summer. I always hate how much my hands hurt from my black steering wheel cooking them when I first get into the car on a hot summer day
Yeah, having lived in some places where the temps inside a closed car can easily soar above 50C/120F.... steering wheel covers can absolutely do enough good to justify any risk (and frankly, the risk is absolutely minuscule; most of us will instinctively grip harder in an emergency).
I made one out of cotton yarn and it did not slip, but I think some yarns might. I laced it just like the ones you buy at the auto parts places, so as long as it's a snug fit, I think it should be ok.
I'm a Midwesterner and my mom crocheted me a nose warmer about 20 years ago. I was really cold one day and complaining about how cold my nose was, so my mom did an experimental project really quick and made me a nose warmer. I loved it and wore it.
I don't see where any of these items qualify for worst crochet projects! Impractical? Maybe. Not for everyone? Definitely. BUT the skill shown by these designers & crafters! WOW! The life size dolls! The kitchen set! The toilet roll dolls & gowns. So. Much. Talent! Thanks for sharing photos of everything. It was fascinating! 👌🏻😊♥️
the only thing I'd disagree with this sentiment is the steering wheel cover and the toaster cover, just because they can be hugely dangerous. even if the steering wheel cover isn't the cause of an accident, they can cause issues with insurance coverage if you have them on at the time of an accident. and like Elise said, they're super cute! but just not worth the risk
@@fennogan4498 that's not true about the steering wheel covers. At least not in the US. Ive seen several posts on Facebook about it and many people who work in insurance have said that's not a thing.
I was thinking of making them to accompany books like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", etc. These would be nice gifts for young families to encourage reading. There are so many possibilities with this!
@@dolliegurl4607I made a story sack for my nephew of the hungry caterpillar. I crochet the food for it. And crochet the caterpillar and butterfly. Was a long but fun project.
Wow! Years ago I made a crocheted poodle toilet paper cover and my kids loved it! It was fun, kept an extra roll handy and clean for those unexpected run- out moments when the regular roll shared it's last square, and now it's a fond memory.
I love fingerless gloves! They are wonderful when you want to still use your phone or work in the cold. (Though I live somewhere where people get excited about less than an inch of snow, and may cancel school for it, so that may be a factor.)
I don't have any yet, but they've made my list of things I want to make for myself! I've seen people wearing fingerless gloves that absolutely swear by them. My hands get cold in late September and don't warm back up until June, even though I live in the south, so I think they would be great. LOL!
I live in a cold climate (Finland) and love them! I use them a lot in the fall before it gets too cold, because I don't have to take out my gloves to check my phone or etc. In the winter, I wear them at work or I wear them combined with mittens for extra warmth. They're so useful!
The woman who makes the life-sized crochet figures is truly an Artist! These figures transcends dolls and are more sculptures as she is using metal apertures as other sculptors would. Also, fingerless gloves are not really useless; my sister uses them while delivering mail and found they actually keep her hands warm.
as someone who get extremely dry hands during the winter I could not say enough good things about the fingerless mittens. if I went outside one day without them my hands become so dry and chapped. I've even made multiple pairs with different colours to match with my outfit and I made some for my friends. they're such a quick and easy project.
I agree with the toilet covers and the underwear just for hygienic reasons. It looks nice but it's not sanitary. But I wanted to say something else, you explain things so easily so nice. Love watching your videos. ❤
I was so scared that you were going to say the poodle toilet paper cover! Because I literally made a cute one for our bathroom paying homage to all the cute ones I’ve seen during my childhood (including the doll ones) and I love them! So I’m happy you gave it a check mark!
Oh my goodness! A walk down memory lane with the toilet seat covers and toilet paper dolls. We had all that. I don't know if the toilet paper ever got switched out from Ms. Dolly. No one wanted to disrupt her day. LOL Hard pass on the doll face only ones.
I have made many barefoot sandals for my daughter. But she lives in south Florida, one mile from the gulf. They are basically jewelry/accessories for when you are in a bikini and she matches them to her nail polish. She has also sent me pictures of string belts to match but I haven't made them yet. She actually isn't a teen at 44 years old but drop dead gorgeous. Also my Grandma crocheted me a bikini out of fine cotton yarn and a tiny hook when I was a teen that I loved so much I wore it out. I wish I had a picture of it but thanks for the memories.
This was a fun video to watch. I really liked that you voiced your concerns about safety and taste, while never putting the questionable items in a mean spirit.😊
I made my daughter and her friends the nose warmers as a joke when they were in high school! They were a bunch of laughs. We do live in a cold climate ( Minnesota) however they really aren't practical!
I agree with all of your comments whole heartedly! The toilet seat cover that went on the actual SEAT made my jaw drop a bit. Also, fingerless gloves are adorable and very practical! My little ones love wearing them on chilly mornings waiting for the school bus ❤
Side note: did you announce the winner for the lumilight yet? I entered and didn’t see anything announced so I’m checking back 🤞😊 so fun! Also, love seeing pickle in your videos!!!
I live in Canada and I use fingerless mitts a lot. Plus I use wristwarmers, which just cover the wrist, all the time. I live in an old farmhouse and they help a lot to keep me warm. As far as the nose warmers go, I’d rather just pull up my scarf or cowl. Great video! Crochet is the best!
I'm in Canada and I cannot imagine crocheting a "nose-warmer", I've never heard of them! I wear a scarf or a "cache-cou" (French for hide-neck) which is like a fleece turtle neck without the shirt part, just to keep your neck and face warm.
When I was growing up in Iowa in the 60s and 70s, they called those dickies. I don't know why. I owned a couple and I wore them when I wanted a layered look and it was too warm for that. 😊
I love the realistic crocheted food for the same reason as you - it's a great idea for a play kitchen for kids, and I admire the artistry & skill in their design. They're no different than the realistic crocheted plants & flowers.
About the mama animals with babies that get "born" -- I didn't learn about how babies get *made* until much later, but my mom did teach me where babies come *out* when my brother was born when I was 2 years old. I think I would have loved a little toy to go along with that lesson. Kids love weird things 😆
That woman who does the life size crochet people with the wire frames inside is absolute crochet goals for me! I've seen the picture of her with her dog and their crochet twins on Facebook before, and the caption said something like, "This isn't a picture of two people. Look closer." Since I saw that, I've wanted to make a life size crochet doll. One day . . .
Oh man! Do I remember the toilet paper cover. My grandmother made them for everyone. Now, my family is from Virginia, near Bristol VA/TN. My grandmother lived up in the hills and had an outhouse. She made it look so inviting. 😊❤
Fingerless gloves are great for keeping your hand and arms warm while still be able to work. Last winter I really felt the difference when I wore them. Im planning on making myself an umbrella for shade in the summer. 1. It's unique and will keep you from burning under the scorching sun. 2. It won't build up heat like a regular umbrella does. I used an umbrella this summer once because there were absolutely no shade at the bus stop and agter about 5 minutes, the fabric started spewing heat towards me and I was cooking under there. 3. They look beautiful and kinda badass. You don't see people walking around with them much in western countries but with the summer months getting hotter each year, I can see this becoming more of a thing in the future.
There’s one yarn (now discontinued) that would make comfortable underwear: Micro Spun by Lion Brand. It was a light/DK microfiber that had the best drape ever. I have no idea why they dc’d it, because I haven’t been able to find ANY yarn like it, and I’ve looked everywhere, for many years. The color was amazing, too, very rich color, lightweight, it washed well. MicroSpun is like gold to me, but even more rare than gold, as no one has any they want to sell.
I can only picture using it to stop the direct sunlight from making your steering wheel too hot to touch leaving it parked for a while, and the cover being removed before you drive the car. I know we can buy covers that are safe to use from car shops, but if someone wanted customized option and removed it before driving to save hands from a hot surface maybe.
I hadn't thought about that! I made one but it only went around the steering wheel, not across the front... IDK if that would be any safer. Thanks for posting that comment, it's something I honestly hadn't considered.
@@vanessabrumage If someone removes it before driving, I don't think it should pose the same kinds of potential dangers, but the styles I've seen don't seem like they'd be easy to remove and put back on...
@@dolliegurl4607 Glad it made you think! Even the ones that just go around the outside may interfere depending on how far in they go and how that particular car's airbag cover is meant to detach in an accident. They also have the potential to slip on the wheel while driving. Just doesn't seem worth it for something that's decorative, you know?
I pretty much agree with all of your opinions on here. One of my personal favorite things to make is the fingerless mitts and gloves. I use them myself and I love to make them for other people.
About the fingerless mittens ... I love them! I've made so many of them because they keep my hands and wrists warm without removing my finger mobility. In fact, I made--on request!--a pair each of these for two of my niblings last christmas. Both were fairly heavy, with the idea that they'd wear thinner gloves under them, and then mine on top.
This is such a fun video 🤣 I was raising my two older kids in the seventies and some of those things were a reality for me 😜. My older daughter had a pajama bag with the plastic baby face that used-to freak my husband out😵💫. Hope your birthday week is going well and a happy weekend to you
These Umbrellas are georgeous!🤩The waterballoons are a great idea and the fingerless gloves are the highlight for my kids. They love them, because you don´t need to remove your gloves to use your mobile phone for the next "insanely important message".😀
You were one of my first crochet TH-camrs, and you continue to entertain and delight. I am 100% in agreement with your assessments, and I truly enjoyed the fun and unusual crochet projects you found to introduce us to. Thank you for your quirky sense of adventure. I'm right there with you, keeping you company.
I have always hated the toilet paper dolls - so hideous and terrifying! I agree with some other comments that the crochet beer can hats should be on the list, 100%. I did not know about the water balloons, which are awesome!! Those are a great idea!! Fun video.
I crochet all my bathroom rugs and seat covers. I like the fact that these things outlast any bathroom decor you can buy. They can be washed and dried as often as you want.
You should watch the YT vido on what happens when you flush a toilet. Droplets, invosible to the eye can spread fecal matter up to 6 feet. Guess what’s getting caught in your crochet pooh catcher. That’s why good public restrooms use toilet seat covers that get flushed. The last person who used the toilet left a little something for you. Nurses know.
I never flush my toilet without closing the lid, and everyone that comes to my place knows this is customary. No rugs, toilet lid covers or tank covers.
The water balloons are so easy to make, I made a bunch last year & the kids loved them. They said it didn’t hurt either when they got hit with one, which is a plus
I’ve made 2 of these, though one I knit instead of crocheting. I knit a steering wheel cover, but I only used it when the car was parked in the sun to keep the steering wheel cool, not while driving. Obviously, mine was much looser than any of the ones shown, so it was quick and easy to put on when I parked, then take off when I was ready to drive. Works great as long as you don’t try to drive with it. The other is a parasol. I used an umbrella with a torn canopy I got at a garage sale. It had a particularly nice handle, so I crocheted a lace canopy, removed the torn nylon one, and it works amazingly to help me from getting sunburned when I need to stand around in full sun at noon. I wear a wide brim hat and light open shirt with long sleeves too, but the additional shade from the parasol helps cover the gaps in those, and makes them cooler, since less sun is hitting them. Very useful and just really pretty too.
I made several sets for people a couple Christmases ago. I even matched the colors/patterns to match the pets! What a laugh they were then and we still laugh about them now. I think something silly to laugh about is a necessity these days! :)
I enjoyed this episode for the excellent tongue in cheek wonderfulness of your presentation. So much research was needed! And showing us a number of models for each example. I'm beyond impressed!
1. I did crochet a toilet tank lid ...so I did not have to hear the lid hitting the tank at night. 2. love the crochet cat tukus coasters. Customized in my cats' colors for their Grandma. She howled with laughter. 3. Steering wheel cover was, in fact, dangerous. Crochet a dust mitt and mittens to keep in your vehicle.
I live in the PNW I have crochet many fingerless gloves for gifts. Office staff working in a cool temperature building needing to keep their hands warm and their fingers free so they can use the computer. The gloves were a hit and I have had many requests for them. I used the Prim-N-Stitches pattern easy and fast, love it.
The first two things i crocheted were toilet paper cover dolls and then stopped. It was years later when i finally really "learned" to crochet and now i can't imagine my life without it.
I am crocheting dragon scale fingerless gloves. I work on the computer all day and my hands get cold. I am hoping they keep my hands warm while letting me type and work my mouse.
The toaster cover, i would assume is a dust cover. It’s not meant to stay when using the toaster. I think it’s a cute idea for a trailer or vacation home to prevent dust collection while you’re away.
I'm sight impaired and use a long cane. I'm making fingerless gloves/ wrist warmers at the moment because this winter my hands will always be out and the lack of fingers will help me use the cane better than mittens.
Waving from Jacksonville! I watched this while riding my recumbent bike in the garage this morning, and had to laugh. I came across the craziest thing the other day that I NEVER would have thought possible to crochet, and jotted it down as an idea to somehow fit into a future video (I just started my channel). Your list is great!
When you listed the "vintage" doll toilet paper cover it reminded me of those crochet dolls that people put on their beds. We need to bring that trend back! Great video.
Yarn bombing! I think should be on the worst crochet ideas/project list. I live in New York, the nose cover thing belongs on this list because it is ridiculous looking and if it is cold enough for your nose to be cold...it is cold enough for the rest of your face to be cold so use a scarf.
Agree on the yarn bombing! I'm not averse to the idea of decorating outside spaces with crocheted or knitted items, but I don't think it's good for trees and bushes, especially when ppl don't come back to remove it. The other thing I wonder (worry) about is how wildlife (like birds, squirrels, insects) are affected by it.
I drive with my crochet steering wheel cover and I love it! It doesn't actually slip off because you stitch the borders on the inside with a like rubbery elastic. Super cute project!!!

I think those are the most unsanitary things ever. How unhealthy and gross.
But see, they even come with a theme 😅 to me any toilet cover is halloween themed : ultra spooky 😂
@@kathy9947 I think the theory was to keep your butt warm, at least with the seat covers. But agreed, they're super gross
Any musician who's ever had to play in a freezing church knows how invaluable wrist-warmers are. The first thing I ever learned to knit in the round!
Very good point!! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Yep. And also worn by all musicians having to march in a parade in winter or even spring and fall when it can be cold and windy.
This is really great. Ty for sharing.
That's awesome ❤
I used to have a stuffed dog that 'gave birth' there was a pocket that was closed off with velcro I believe lol
Wow super amazing I would love to see it.
I have had the honour to see and admire Liisa Hietanen's work on a museum here in Finland. They are really amazing and I just couldn't even think how many hours she has spent doing them. They are all works of art. So there's no AI involved. Just pure talent 😊
They really are! I would love to see them in person someday!! 🧶🧶🧶
I love the fingerless gloves. Sometimes when I'm working, my hands are freezing and they keep my hands warm and still able to use computer keyboard.
Exactly!! So many reasons to have them! 🧶🧶🧶
I knit fingerless gloves quite often and I love them. I live in Idaho where it gets quite cold in the winter. If my fingers get cold I tuck them into my gloves.
Fingerless gloves are perfect for me in the winter.
My mother had arthritis in her hands and had circulation problems, she wore fingerless gloves indoors all the time. I have thought of making some for working at the computer and crocheting, sedentary tasks make my hands cold.
I love fingerless gloves. So convenient and I can type with them on to keep my hands warm. I made some for my coworkers as Christmas gifts.
You have me laughing out loud!
Some of those toilet images were AI generated, so fortunately not all were real 😅
Lol!! Thank you for sharing! I'm pretty sure I've never been in temps that cold so I knew I wasn't the one to give it a rating! 🧶🧶🧶
Crochet blankets are vital for the evenings here in the winter, there are several of those around our house 😊
hahahaha I think the nose warmers look like masquerade items.
I would have used it when we lived in Arizona!
It sounds beautiful!!! ☂️☂️☂️
They don’t seem like they would provide adequate shade at all.😅
I made a parasol and used it when taking my 93 year old for a walk in the hot sun. Definitely helped!
My first thought when I saw those was , beach wedding.
The nose warmer was a must for my husband during his cancer treatments, now he did not wear it out in public. He stayed so cold and it really helped.
LOL!!!
and now i have the 'Tiny Wini Polka Dot Bikini' song in my head XD
It was a sunning suit, not a swim suit!!!
I had the same experience. My mom crocheted a bikini for me back in the 70s it was really cute as long as it didn't get wet.
Here in MA fingerless gloves are useless. A waste of crochet time. I tried wearing them. My fingers froze, making the rest of the hands very cold.
People thought fingerless gloves were useless? I have a pair that I use at work almost every day! They are great when you have to type. But I wonder how the 70s crocheted beer can hats didn't make the list... good lord those are so TACKY!
Lol!!! I didn't see those, but I might have to do a part 2!!!! 🍺
I've seen them with soda cans too, still tacky as all get out!!
Omg. My gramma made those! So tacky.
Yeah, I was waiting for these to come up!😂
I plan on making a pair for this winter so that I can type on my computer because I always have cold hands, lol.
I think it's cute and whimsical 🙂
Lol!!! I think it's a very practical thing to crochet in your case!!! 🧻
Me too! 🧻
Its a poo catcher for the microdroplets that fly up to 6 feet after you flush. I hop you don’t keep your toothbush out in the open too….. 😳
@@Brineytoes
You do know, that you can simply close the lid before flushing, right?
Im a child of the 70's and aside from the bathroom sets, i think beer can hats are the trashiest thing I have ever seen. They were totally a thing when I was a kid. A quick google search will show you what I mean.
I thought they were little hats for beer cans until I googled it and just... wow, how did people even come up with this idea??
I Googled it and hmm. I applaud the creativity but every idea isn't a good one. And surely it can't be comfortable!?
When you said "cat butt coasters" I was trying to imagine why a cat's butt needed a coaster 😹
Haha!!!
🤣🤣🤣 now my cats would probably sit on them!!!! 🐈🤣❤️🧶
My mom would have liked these as her cat would sit on the side table and leave ‘little marks’ on the polish. Of course, her cat would probably not sit on it as it is a CAT.
I thought they were attached to the cat to hide this necessary but unpleasant part somehow 🫣😂
@@keelienne They actually make little dangling things you can hang from your cat's tail to hide... Certain things... So you're not wildly off base! 😂
I watch your videos while I'm bored at work, and I had to pause this one to take a call. I paused it right on that still shot of the horrific baby face tp cover. So that stared at me for a good 8 minutes while I was helping someone.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️
They're terrifying! 😂
Fingerless gloves were on the list?😮 I have multiple pairs (some knit and some crochet) and I use them constantly in the colder months to help with the circulation in my hands. I couldn't imagine life without them.
I know! I was surprised by that one! I love my pair! 🧶🧶🧶
I agree. They are pieces of art! Just incredible! 🧶🧶🧶
They also are a work of art that might someday be in a museum as she has become quite famous. She deserves to be known as an artist. And also if your therapist tells you to make new friends there you go.
@@poodlegirl55you just make them! Lol.
On the fingerless gloves, I LOVE THEM! They’re a lifesaver when my office is too cold but I need my fingers to type 😅
Exactly! 🧶🧶🧶
Fingerless gloves are very useful for those who have cold hands working on computers. It keeps your hands warm.
When my mum was a child in the 1950s, she had a knitted one-piece swimming costume, a bit like the underwear in your book. Pretty cute when it was dry, but impossibly, impractically heavy once it was wet!
Oh my goodness. I cannot even image how uncomfortable it would be and how heavy it would be when it was wet! 💦
@thegoodprintco OMG I just had a flashback to my childhood (72 y/o now)- I had a RED knitted one piece swim suit! That's all I remember about it, though. It couldn't have lasted even one summer vacation on Cape Cod 😆
I had a red crocheted bikini. Very pretty and functioned quite well for swimming.
lol, as a tiny one, in the 60's, i had a crochet bikini . my grandma crocheted it for me . don't think we ever went to the beach, but i may have worn it into the kiddie pool in the backyard ...
Yes, I absolutely thought crocheted bathing suits would have made this list when I first started watching this video!
I had an old vintage knitting book that contained patterns for a coffee filter????? and a harness leash for your toddler. LOL Thanks for the fun video!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I made a whole bag of crochet food for my grandkids & they loved them. The twenty year old remembers them so fondly that we had to get the bag out & look thru them. Pretty realistic looking. No faces on them. Fun to make & the memories of them playing with them are priceless & worth every stitch. Positively should not be on the list. Fun video, thanks for sharing. 😢
I’m going to be doing this for my kiddos ❤
I always hate how much my hands hurt from my black steering wheel cooking them when I first get into the car on a hot summer day
I can definitely see that as a good thing to have! 🧶🧶🧶
I have a windshield scren that keeps the sun off the dash and seats. So worth it.
I agree. I bought a knit jersey cover and it fits well and doesn't slip.
I agree!!! There are so many amazingly talented people out there!!!! 🧶🧶🧶
We are unique and with different tastes.
the only thing I'd disagree with this sentiment is the steering wheel cover and the toaster cover, just because they can be hugely dangerous. even if the steering wheel cover isn't the cause of an accident, they can cause issues with insurance coverage if you have them on at the time of an accident. and like Elise said, they're super cute! but just not worth the risk
@@fennogan4498 that's not true about the steering wheel covers. At least not in the US. Ive seen several posts on Facebook about it and many people who work in insurance have said that's not a thing.
As a North Dakotan... I'd love the nose warmer! My nose gets absolutely frozen going outside in the winter!
I agree the crochet food would be cute for a small child’s play kitchen!
So much fun!! 🍤🍓🍕🍱🥑🍍🍪🌯
I was thinking of making them to accompany books like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", etc. These would be nice gifts for young families to encourage reading. There are so many possibilities with this!
I actually made some for my 2 years old daughter and she love all of them!
Haha!! Me too!!! If it snows here everything shuts down! ❄️
12:51 as a life long Alaskan, I vote not on the nose cover… cowls and balaclavas do the job.
I’m a midwesterner and I vote NO on the nose covers, too.
as someone who get extremely dry hands during the winter I could not say enough good things about the fingerless mittens. if I went outside one day without them my hands become so dry and chapped.
Have you seen the croched balls covers for men?😅

I love the poodle versions!!!! Soooo cute!!! 🩷🩷🩷
Oh my goodness! A walk down memory lane with the toilet seat covers and toilet paper dolls. We had all that. I don't know if the toilet paper ever got switched out from Ms. Dolly. No one wanted to disrupt her day. LOL Hard pass on the doll face only ones.

@TheSchnoodlemom I thought the roll dolls were lovely as well but I never understood why there had to be a roll of unused tp in her dress.

They look amazing, but serve no real purpose other than being an art piece/statement.
Awwww! That's wonderful! Thanks for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
We used to make them out of rafia on the early 70s . They were very popular
That is very good to know!!! Thanks for sharing!! 🥶
I love the way you do a “Worst list”. You’re so positive!
I'm in Canada and I cannot imagine crocheting a "nose-warmer", I've never heard of them! I wear a scarf or a "cache-cou" (French for hide-neck) which is like a fleece turtle neck without the shirt part, just to keep your neck and face warm.
Thank you for sharing! That is kind of what I was thinking, but as someone who lives in the US south I thought I was missing something! 🥶
When I was growing up in Iowa in the 60s and 70s, they called those dickies. I don't know why. I owned a couple and I wore them when I wanted a layered look and it was too warm for that. 😊

Thank you for sharing! And that's a very interesting observation about using a traditional umbrella for shade and it heating up! ☂️☂️☂️
Fingerless gloves saved me during soccer season when my son was younger. They're great when your office is cold too.
Steering wheel covers can also interfere with airbags and become dangerous in accidents, so multiple reasons to avoid that project!
I think you could get stuck with your watch or bracelets too
I can only picture using it to stop the direct sunlight from making your steering wheel too hot to touch leaving it parked for a while, and the cover being removed before you drive the car.
Just doesn't seem worth it for something that's decorative, you know?
crocheted nose warmer! fantastic idea, im up coastal canada and brrrrrrr the humidity int the winter months will freeze your nose off! great idea!

Hope your birthday week is going well and a happy weekend to you
Haha!!!! Oh my goodness!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had an amazing birthday!! Thank you! ❤️
These Umbrellas are georgeous!🤩The waterballoons are a great idea and the fingerless gloves are the highlight for my kids. They love them, because you don´t need to remove your gloves to use your mobile phone for the next "insanely important message".😀
Fiber by the toilet is just screaming ewww. I don’t like rugs in bathroom either, just pulls out my germ radar (which isn’t that loud normally lol).
Haha! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
You are right to think that way. Toilet seat covers are poo catchers.
We made a load of those sandals for a musical. Great fun.
I bet they looked amazing!! 🧶🧶🧶
Very good point! Thanks for sharing! I bet they make the bathroom look so cheerful! 🧶🧶🧶

Fingerless gloves are amazing! I work in an office that tends to be on the cooler side and I’m able to still use my computer!
Love the cat butt coasters. What a great gift for all us cat people.
They are soooo cute!! 🧶🧶🧶
An anus is not cute. Period.
There are so many amazing things to crochet, but I have to admit I love toilet paper cover dolls! 🧶🧶🧶
Bathroom has to be worst.
Laved the balloon ideal. Lol
9:00 That’s ART! Not a crochet project. Amazing.
I LOVE the idea of a nose-warmer! My nose is always cold - summer and winter, indoors and out!
15:41 my fingerless gloves are for crocheting during winter (indoors) - I have raynauds syndrome so get cold fingers
Ditto
I actually made several of the barefoot sandals, for "hippie" friends, and the most memorable, in pink raw silk for a beach wedding for the officiant!
I am crocheting dragon scale fingerless gloves. I work on the computer all day and my hands get cold. I am hoping they keep my hands warm while letting me type and work my mouse.
I love those!! 🐉🐉🐉
The toaster cover, i would assume is a dust cover. It’s not meant to stay when using the toaster. I think it’s a cute idea for a trailer or vacation home to prevent dust collection while you’re away.
That's a good idea!! 🧶🧶🧶
I’m of “a certain age” and my mom made a crocheted TP cover that was a white Top Hat 🎩. It was cute and functional.😊
I'm sight impaired and use a long cane. I'm making fingerless gloves/ wrist warmers at the moment because this winter my hands will always be out and the lack of fingers will help me use the cane better than mittens.
1:42 ugh! Especially the seat covers
14:45 Ok I have lots of the Bernat blanket yarn, I have 5 grandchildren… Yeppers perfect match 👍 !!
How fun!!!!!! 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
Another good thing about these would be if you have a little one allergic to latex.
And you can use up leftover yarn. 👍
When you listed the "vintage" doll toilet paper cover it reminded me of those crochet dolls that people put on their beds. We need to bring that trend back! Great video.
Love it!!! 🙌
Yarn bombing! I think should be on the worst crochet ideas/project list. I live in New York, the nose cover thing belongs on this list because it is ridiculous looking and if it is cold enough for your nose to be cold...it is cold enough for the rest of your face to be cold so use a scarf.
I think I'm going to have to do a part 2! Thank you for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
