Yeah, I just recently "accidentally" overindulged in a big yarn buying spree, myself. I sure didn't intend to buy as much as I did, but, you know how it goes! 🤣 A large percentage of it is destined to become items for other people, but I still get 100% of the joy of knitting it all, 😃so it still feels quite selfishly indulgent! 😊
I bought 6 different colors of the Big Twist t-shirt yarn this week! It was 25% off + another 20% off entire purchase. I’m so pleased you gave it 10 out of 10. I’m hoping to make baskets and a plant hanger and a tote bag for starters.
Thanks, Toni. I appreciate the fact that you review yarns we can find at big box craft stores and acknowledge that not all of us have a LYS option or the budget for hand-dyed or luxury yarns.
As an amigurumi crocheter, I LOVE the juicy couture yarn 😍 I usually prefer velvet yarns for my plushies and tend to primarily use the Bernat velvet line, but the juicy couture yarn is slightly more plush and has more vibrant colors in the line (there’s a neon yellow that almost hurts to look at it’s so bright 😂). And the fact that almost all the colors also has a ‘sparkle’ version is so fun! My only dislike is the price, you get wayyy less in a ball compared to Bernat velvet for almost the same price. I rarely buy it unless it’s more than 20% off so it’s been slow going to get all the colors I want in my stash 🥲 Just my 2 cents from someone who’s made amigurumi with it 😅 I love these videos but don’t make clothing so I can rarely relate, and the Juicy Couture is the only one from this list I’ve worked with 😂😅😅 (Prism is looking really nice though, I might have to go find some 😍)
as someone who has used both for scrunchies i agree, i do prefer the feel of how JC works up, i do wish we got more yardage for the price, even if it was still slightly below bernat's. my only qualm was the sparkle version shedding the sparkle bits as i worked it up and i don't wanna deal with that
Big Twist Prism fell into my cart last week to. I picked up those exact colors too. I’ve already worked both of those colors. The family, who doesn’t usually pay attention to what I’m working on all”‘ouuuu’d” and “ahhhh’d”. It’s SOO pretty. While working with it and I agree, I had the same thought about longevity while working with it - we’ll see :)
I went to JoAnn yesterday & I’m glad I didn’t see this video before I went or I would’ve come home with a lot more yarn! 😂😂 Thanks for the reviews, Toni! You are appreciated! ❤
Michaels is SO abysmal for yarn nowadays... it used to be my go-to, but there's only like 3 brands, bad stock amount, and pricing is always meh. Joann literally filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and still miles better stock, selection, and stays having sales lol.
I am SO glad you did this review! Everytime I've walked into Joann's for the past month, I stand in front of the Prism display, squeezing on a few, then ultimately deciding to walk away and regretting it after lol
K+C Yarn has been the #1 reason I shop yarns at JoAnn. I bought out my local when they had the Super Bulky in 2021 and their other Alpaca blend they had last year. I love my LYS, but as someone that makes larger sizes…K+C yarns make making with natural yarn blends more affordable.
I'm so happy we're back in our yarn snob era, Auntie! I loev K+C so much, and just picked up some of that T-shirt yarn to make a little run so I'm so happy you love it!
So, I’m two videos into your channel and I am completely charmed!!! You are delightful and a TH-cam/fiber inspiration!!! ❤ I hope you rocket past 1mil followers in no time!!
i went to joann last week specifically for 2 skeins of grey yarn only to find new colors of my favorite yarn and walked out with 20 skeins (none in the color i needed) for a new blanket 😂 they know what they are doing!!!
This is the first time I've seen your camera set-up. The new one, at least. I remember the days when you had a desk lmap behind you and your phone propped up or suspended above your table to show how you crochet. You've come such a long way! One million subs should be no problem! I'm absolutely loving that last acrylic; like you, if it were a wool blend, I'd be all over it.
Never ever buy yarn without a coupon or without it being on sale..... Love your enthusiasm and very honest reviews. Thanks to you I'm now in love with K&C yarn ❤️ Thank you, Toni!!
Those K+C yarns are very exciting! My app says they aren't available at my local store but sometimes that's a lie so I'll have to go take a look myself.
I’m so thankful for your review. Not only do you review the yarn but you give us ideas how to use them. I have been wondering about the K/C yarns; also I’d love to see more 3 wt. colors in K/C.
Great yarn review! Not having a LYS locally, it’s very helpful to know what’s at the big box stores. Thanks for looking at the “better” options and your honest opinions. 🦋
Here's a comment you could use: "Tony! You crochet so fast! I’m in awe every time I see you crochet!! lol 40 years of crocheting, and I am learning so many new things from you and your channel. I have missed out over the years not realizing there were better tools that could improve my experience, and because of you, I’m attempting clothing, different yarns, and better hooks that I didn’t realize would help me crochet faster. I didn’t know what I was missing out -I may try to learn Tunisian crochet too. Thank you!"
Thank you Toni for letting the yarn snob return. You just confirmed my suspicion about juicy couture yarn I've seen it at Joann and passed it by. Love big twist value yarn made a baby blanket, sleep sack out of it. Hugs 🤗🤗🤗
I used Big Twist T-shirt to make simple circular placemats and they are GORGEOUS!! Easy to work with, beautiful stitch definition, and bright beautiful colors. Perfect for adding a pop of color to your dining table. Plus it washes well. Thanks for doing this video!!!
Toni your intro cracked me up. Each time I go anywhere near yarn or fabric I go nuts. It’s the pretty colors that catch my eyes. Same way when I was making jewelry…the pretty colors 😂😂😂😂. I still ❤it all!!
I accidentally came across your channel tonight and I am "hooked!" How have I not seen this earlier? I will be busy now watching your back content. And I LOVE your dog!
I've never tried T-shirt yarn projects because my hands are sore at the best of times. But you've made me start looking at them again with your glowing review of Big Twist T-shirt! Extra points for being made of recycled material, too.
Love me some yarn snob reviews Toni! ESPECIALLY from my favorite local yarn store Joan’s . With all the new things coming out it really helps to get insight before committing to a buy! Keep them coming!
I made a hexagon cardigan with big twist prism a few months ago, and its probably my favorite garment I’ve crocheted. The color changes are mesmerizing, and the granny clusters give it just enough breathing room to where its in that sweet spot of not too warm/not too cold. I used the pink shade, but I would definitely come back for that brown.
I too love to shop JoAnns for yarn but have been very disappointed in so many of their acrylic yarns being machine wash but no dryer!! I make blankets a lot and I prefer washable and dryable as well as anti pilling. Great review on all their newer ones, thanks for the swatches and opinions, Toni
Ya, that's why I almost always give JoAnn's house yarns a hard pass - NONE of them are machine dryable, and most of my makes are for charitable donations. Have a great day. 🐞
Goodness, I am going to have to hop in my car and make that 2hr trip just for that cloudpacpa yarn! That was absolutely heavenly! It's such a pity mine was closed down, but so worth it for your yarn reviews! Ty so much ♥
I’m so thankful for your yarn reviews and recommendations of how to use each yarn. It’s invaluable informaion. I have soooo much yarn to use up right now I’m afraid I’ll have to wait for my next yarn haul but I’ll refer to this post before I buy. Thanks again!
LOL LOL LOL - I don't even bother with the pep talk!! JoAnn's has an awesome reward when you order online and then pick up at store. A 20% off coupon for a purchase that day. This kind of offer can only require a thorough search of all yarn to see what is on sale. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I used rave to make a Camaro Crop Top! It was... something, lol. I love the colors but just wish they had gone with a different material. So happy yarn snob is back!
I've been eyeing that Prism Yarn! I may just buy it after this review! I was also eyeing that Rave yarn, very glad to hear the pros and cons about it as well. I'm so happy to hear there may be more Yarn snob reviews! I enjoy watching them from you, Thank You!! Happy Crafting!
I'm so grateful you posted this! I recently bought some prism yarn because the rainbow colors and squish were too good!! I haven't known what to make though, so your review is really helpful! Thank you :)
Love the t-shirt yarn. I'm elated to see you gave it 10 hooks. I made 2 tri-color purses & 2 clutches with it a few weeks ago. Today, I bought a few more skeins, the last ones on the shelf. I hope they restock it soon as this really is the best t-shirt yarn I've worked with, easy to handle, smooth to the touch, easy on your hands, glides like butter on your hook.
I wish I would of seen this yesterday. Picked up the BT t-shirt yarn and put it back. Now I need to go back. And yes, I love Cheryl at Joann's too! Great reviews!
When I saw that Big Twist Prism in that brown, I lost my mind. Don’t know what I’m gonna make, but it s to be on my stash. So true about Big Twist retiring yarn too soon. I’m stuck in the middle of ripple throw now because of it. #BigTwist keep the yarns on the shelf longer please cause we wanna buy more!!
I just bought like 13 big twist 1 pound skeins on line because they were only $6.99 and I've been making the beaded weight blankets. The beads definitely need to be the expensive part of the project, and they totally are😂 That big twist Rave has been on my list for the slime color with the black and the pink with black. The unicorn color was very pretty, and the stitch you did with it was also gorgeous. My jaw dropped when you mentioned the price of the small balls by kxc. They were beautiful, but not in my budget. The prism is so pretty, too!! Coming from a maker that uses red heart most of the time, I would readily pick big twist regular worsted over them even though red heart has the superior color choices. Big twist is softer. I'm a "baller" on a budget, and I give away most of my projects. To me, color is the most important. I work in optical, so I have some "hard" hands. I do feel the difference when I am making with superior materials, though. Thank you for all you do! You are an amazing maker! Lysm!!❤
I’m knitting a sleeve from the Lazy Days Thick ‘n’ Quick for the large ice pack for my back. It’s light but bulky, so it should work better than wrapping a towel around.
This is why I limit going to anywhere that has yarn. I end up with way more than I intended at least half of the time, even if I am going there for a very specific thing. My local small business yarn store has a lot of harder to find in person regionally/locally spun and/or hand dyed yarn. I told her that I always feel like I'm buying too much since I need several boxes for storage at home. She said, "Oh, all of mine always fits in a one box....my husband also tells me to stop calling our house a box." 😂 On a more serious note, it's nice to see Big Twist in general get at least a somewhat positive review. Back when I started crocheting and not knowing better, I ended up shopping a sale at Joann. I got several skeins of a pink/black colorway that seemed okay. Turns out it was scratchy as hell when I started working with it and it's also how I learned non-natural fibers or yarns without something mixed in are typically a no-go for me. Eventually, I ended up making cat blankets out of all of it which they love and it helped me learn some new techniques. I've been called a yarn snob here and there as I tend to go towards the more "spendy" yarns (i.e. not Red Heart Super Saver). I've found that if I'm going to put in hours of work, I want it to be something I want to use all the time or the person I'm giving it to wants to use. Sales are great to help cut costs and big box stores carrying these types of yarns is a really great place for people to safely try yarns that they otherwise would see as outside their price range.
I started this video, then went to do dishes and had to come on back with soapy hands to see this roving yarn👀, I love your honesty!!! thank you for another great video that made me want to try t-shirt yarn :)
LOL. While watching this I am making one of your Montego Shawls. Love that pattern! I made sure to buy one. Making most of the ladies at my church this shawl!
Subscribed and I will definitely be learning some Tunisian crochet from you! I feel the same way about velvet yarn! I also bought some Rave. I am making my way through it 😅
I am so excited to see this! Regular tshirt is killing my hands!!! I saw Joann has Big Twist tshirt; but haven't been in the store! Glad to see your big 10 review! I will definitely check it out!! I was traumatized by Loops and Threads Facets; so I have major hate of roving yarn. It was beautiful, I bought 16 skeins and returned all but 4 (the 2 that were used, though a huge amount of the yarn ended up in the trash, and 2 because the color was too outstanding to let go, but it remains unused).
I love the big twist prism. I am making a shawl with the tigers eye color way and the color way is just gorgeous. I haven’t bought the k & c cloudpaca yet, but love squishing it in the store. Haven’t figured what to do with it yet.
I have lots of the big twist T-shirt yarn to make some rugs and baskets with for my new house 😛 And as soon as you shared the cloudpaca yarn and you loving it .. I went straight over to Joanne’s site and bought 12 balls of it to make a cozy airy cardigan with 🤭😜I’m getting the color Colony Blue. It was between this one and the lavendula color being the purple is my fav but I also love these types of blues too and have tons of purple yarns. 🤣 I can’t wait to get it. If I had more money I’d also get the k/c luxe wool yarn now but had to slow my roll for now lol 😂🤪🥴🤭 Thanks for the wonderful reviews and honest opinions. 💜🥰💜
I know! Those yarn balls and skeins jump into my cart when I'm not looking!! I knit and crochet with my eyes first, then squish, squish, squish. Visually tactile or tactiley visual - not sure which, or both! Thanks for this great video. I'm heading to my local JoAnn's for the Big Twist prism (the swatch color) tomorrow. No idea what I'll do with it but my eyes and hands will have a feast! Hugs from (very hot) Arizona!
I agree that Big Twist Rave can be difficult to crochet with, but I would recommend you try knitting with it! I'm knitting up a top-down raglan sweater and I'm in LOVE with how its turning out! Its the perfect thickness and softness for the one cold winter day we get here in Texas lol
"One does not simply walk into a JoAnn's with the intention to buy only 1 skein, not with 1,000 crafters could you do this, it is folly." 😂😂😂😂
Excellent LOTR reference!!!
Thank you Boromir
Boromir could be my escort and keep me from buying too many skeins , Any. Day. 😊
❤
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that accidentally buys copious amounts of yarn.
Pretty sure you have lots of company here.
Hi Jes! Big fan here.
Same here! And videos like these don't help. /pos 😅

😂😂 How does one "accidently" buy too much? Accidently on purpose is my description! 😂
Never have too much yarn ❤😂❤😂
Never too much 😂
"Without prior intent" is how I explain myself.
“Hold my beer”😂 I say this frequently, you speak to my soul.
I just went to Joann’s the other day and WOW way better than Michael’s

Wait teaaa cause Joanns got better sales and Joanns has fabric and Michaels don’t
Also heyy, have you ever tried that K+C hand dyed cotton?
@@ngozi230 no but I really want to!!
💯
I am SO glad you did this review! Everytime I've walked into Joann's for the past month, I stand in front of the Prism display, squeezing on a few, then ultimately deciding to walk away and regretting it after lol
Lol! I"m glad I"m not the only one shamelessly squeezing yarns skeins in store.

I'm absolutely loving that last acrylic; like you, if it were a wool blend, I'd be all over it.
Never ever buy yarn without a coupon or without it being on sale.....

Thank you, Toni!!

This is so timely because I was just in JoAnn's last night and when I saw the Cloudpaca I just gasped. It's so soft and nice looking.
You have a beautiful way with words Toni 💗💗💗 Love your heart, & how it shines through in everything you do 💗🥰
I made a hexagon cardigan with big twist prism a few months ago, and its probably my favorite garment I’ve crocheted. The color changes are mesmerizing, and the granny clusters give it just enough breathing room to where its in that sweet spot of not too warm/not too cold. I used the pink shade, but I would definitely come back for that brown.

She said, "Oh, all of mine always fits in a one box....my husband also tells me to stop calling our house a box." 😂
On a more serious note, it's nice to see Big Twist in general get at least a somewhat positive review.
Loving the jacket... so cute
LOL. While watching this I am making one of your Montego Shawls. Love that pattern! I made sure to buy one. Making most of the ladies at my church this shawl!
Love your yarn snob reviews!! K & C yarn is so good 🧶😍 also can't wait for you to hit 1 mil subs soon ✨
I loved Lazy Days (but wanted more colors!). I hope Lazy Days Thick and Quick extends to color range and stays around.
Subscribed and I will definitely be learning some Tunisian crochet from you! I feel the same way about velvet yarn! I also bought some Rave. I am making my way through it 😅
Yay! I love the yarn snob reviews!! (Also, I might be getting some of that Big Twist T-Shirt yarn STAT!)
I’m pretty sure k&c is joining lion brand in the best of the best of bands I can find at Joann’s and I haven’t even touched all of the yarns
I love these videos because I don't get out much! I want to try them all.
I have lots of the big twist T-shirt yarn to make some rugs and baskets with for my new house 😛
And as soon as you shared the cloudpaca yarn and you loving it .. I went straight over to Joanne’s site and bought 12 balls of it to make a cozy airy cardigan with 🤭😜I’m getting the color Colony Blue. It was between this one and the lavendula color being the purple is my fav but I also love these types of blues too and have tons of purple yarns. 🤣
I can’t wait to get it. If I had more money I’d also get the k/c luxe wool yarn now but had to slow my roll for now lol 😂🤪🥴🤭
Thanks for the wonderful reviews and honest opinions.
💜🥰💜
I'm really on a yarn diet😅since I can't even stow away on a bus....❤loved your video on the different yarns...thk you🎉
I love this! Your review looked spot on. I want to try the t-shirt Big Twist! Looked great!
Congratulations on reaching 773K subscribers!! 🥳🥂🎉🥳🥂🎉🥳🥂🎉
I agree that Big Twist Rave can be difficult to crochet with, but I would recommend you try knitting with it! I'm knitting up a top-down raglan sweater and I'm in LOVE with how its turning out! Its the perfect thickness and softness for the one cold winter day we get here in Texas lol
