The UK government isn’t backings off EVs, It is consulting. The problem isn’t EVs. The issue is that UK-made ICE and EV cars are too costly for the typical consumer.
It's a great idea rating fast charging by miles per time because it accounts for efficiency. My Chevy bolt can level 2 charge at 48 amps but I don't need it, I share 1 home charger set at 16 amps between 2 EVS for overnight charging
Sadly, time is of the essence, where the energy transition is concerned. These delays incur massive long term economic costs - and not only in the UK or other Western nations.
@@dertythegrower Usual for you MAGA, it was just Fed taxpayer money but up to the states to implement it. Pretty much all the red states only want subsidized oil. They would get on board EV's almost overnight if they had to pay the real gas price at the pump of $6-8 per gallon.
JLR is getting hit by the second punch with the new Chery EV's being sold in the UK. I doubt that Chery is a brand/company whose primary mission is to promote an LGBTQ+ political/sexual agenda aggressively, no matter what the cost to the company. Toyota is toast. It will lose at least 50% of it's volume by 2030 (or sooner). Chinese will replace them and as EVs become cheaper, Toyota would have nothing to show for (except Chinese branded Toyota vehicles) and will further lose marketshare. Won't be surprised if Toyota would dip under 2M/year by 2035. VW is going to have a similar fate...
sean, it is a bit disingenious and biased to not mention that decline in southeast asia for japanese auto is actually because of daihatsu certification problems
Ok, here's my opportunity to chime in with something I observed a couple months ago. Toyota has been claiming that the demand for EVs isn't there. But have you noticed that most Toyota models now conspicuously display the letters EV in their badging?? Rather curious, no?

david, bloomberg did their own research and stated that BYD among with other smaller Chinese OEM has indeed started to pile up EVs in cities across china. This is not just China however. Vietnamese VINFAST in Vietnam and even Tesla in the US are doing it because BEVs are not as popular as ICE, hybrid or even PHEV. Simple as that. This year most of BYD's growth came from PHEV not BEV

Just like the Japanese did to the Americans back in the late 60's. Lots of features at low prices.
EV is still the future. It will just take a little longer for the future to get here.
