I know how to drive a manual! The wheel hop I mentioned is a bad clutch. I left the part of me stalling in there because it was all real. Thanks for watching and be looking for part 2!

I had a 1985 Dodge I bought used from a guy who plowed snow in an apartment complex. The truck had 16,576 miles on it. (back and forth) It had rust (upstate N.Y.) it ran great, but the box was ready to fall off. Had a 318 with a 727 trans & 4wd. I drove that truck for 17 YEARS !!! and plowed snow every winter,I had a long driveway. By the time I sold it, I had replaced everything except the motor and trans. 2 cabs, 3 frames 3 boxes, as I was driving one day it dawned on me that It looked like and easter egg . and the only things original were the engine the trans, steering wheel and the strip where the wipers were. It ended up in a junk yard, and it was used as a "yard truck". BTY I've got 8 years on it's replacement , a '99 with a 360, with some "upgrades" to the motor and trans. sadly, rust is taking it's tole. but, with 172,000 on it, it will still run up to 80 if called upon......
Very heart warming to see old iron being saved and having a new chance at life.

Rusted out, no bed floor, no brakes, weak clutch, gotta use an external fuel system, Mickey Mouse home made shifter.. What's not to love, it's an ol Dodge! In my youth, I used to screw around with these things, and flip um too. It was fun! Enjoy it!
Rusted out? That thing looks like it has less rust on it than most '05 Chevys and Fords

I did the same Thing with my 79 Chevy was off the road since 2008. Sitting in the woods for 10years. Since I first fired it up an drove it I put almost 1000 in parts in it to make it a dependable truck, I now use it to haul my truck camper and tow anything and everything with it. I love seeing old trucks brought back to life. Great video man keep it up!

I used to have a 72 custom 100, sat for 20 years and got it going and drove it for a few years, was my first truck. Mine was a long box with the little built in tool box at the bottom of the bed toward the cab. Loved that truck. Keep that truck, so very rare they are. The people holding on to mine for me scrapped it.

Thanks for sharing your video! I'm Steve from north Florida and I'm 50 years old. I bought my 1972 Dodge 100 318 from Florida Division of Forestry....it was still the dark green body with white top half of the cab. Short wheel base regular bed. Had been MAINTAINED to say the least. I actually had the State maintenance log for the truck in my glove box. Anyway you have a gem right there no matter what you decide to do. I ended up selling mine to a young man that needed it to support his wife and new baby so the Green Dodge lives on!

Steve Dulcich would be proud!. Also, my Uncle has a 74 D100 and it has 4 wheel drums as well.
I suppose that the Disk brakes was an option back then. I had a 73 D100 and it had front Disks on it. Should have kept that truck but it was before LMC started carrying parts for thoes old Dodges
My K10 has rear drums. Didn't bother with a rebuild I just replaced them. It was extremely therapeutic to see the end result after totally new brake hardware kits and shoes.

Congrats on your new project. There's nothing like an 60s-70s chevy, ford or dodge truck. Can't wait to see what you do with it (resurrect it).
This truck has a TON of potential. These trucks are simple and reliable and I still say that the 318 is one of the best engines ever made by any manufacturer!
The 360 V8 is a better choice for a 72 Dodge D100 Because they have better revs than a 318 V8
The 318 and the 360 are both great engines,but the 340 is my choice for the best Mopar small block.I wish Chrysler would sell them in a crate engine package because vintage 340 engines are very hard to find.
David Humphrey , I wish the 340 was as popular as the 318. I've seen 340's that ran like scalded cats.
@@charger19691 ,I have a 340 in my 71 Roadrunner and it is a very strong running car.They were even more potent in the lighter Darts and Dusters.My car has gone a best time of 12.79 at 112 mph in the quarter mile on slicks.It is mostly stock with a small cam and headers.

I am a fan of vintage computers, and love watching restoration videos, guys rebuilding computers from the 70s and early 80s; I have no idea why TH-cam suggested your channel and Junkyard Digs...but I'm glad it did. You just got a subscriber.
you will never be able to park a modern truck in a field for 13 and get it running and driving as easy as that with all those modern electrics
If it's a Cummins chances are very high, probably not with a ford

Someone has changed the grill along the way. '72-'73 had the early grill and this is a '74-'75 grill I believe. I bought a '73 Short wide bed Power Wagon new in '73. 360. Torqueflite, Ps, Pb 3.54 Sure Grip, Adventurer package. $4,600 brand new off the lot in So Cal. Great trucks.
74 had this grille and this dash
72 had 4 slit grill.

I just did the same thing with my orange 76 D100 about 6 months ago, it was my Grandpa's old truck and he gave it to me. Starter fluid and jumper cables and it fired up, a battery and a fuel pump and it ran out of a gas can and a new fuel pickup and it was on the road. 6 months later I have a total of 400 into it being a daily driver. They dont make em like they used to. Btw drums on the front were from 72 to about 74 or 75. I love these...

Love those old trucks I had a 79 power wagon stepside bed. Drove it from 97 until 2014. Dont make them like they use to. Thanks for the video.

I am almost certain this truck was owned by my dad in the mid eighties. i have pictures of him sitting in a truck IDENTICAL to this, and when we talk about his orange step side he always complains it had 4 way drums.

Had a white 1985 Dodge PU years back I used primarily as a track truck with a 440 6 pack in it. But I did this really cool mod to the tailgate. It had the raised DODGE across the center of it. I cut the interior side of the tailgate out in the middle so I could see the raised letters on the outer side. I then cut the highest points of the raised letters out (they were slightly tapered) and refitted the cutouts with white tinted Plexiglas using epoxy. I then took the cut out section from the inside of the tailgate and mounted a red LED light bar that was close to the width of the entire cutout to that and welded it back into place. Cleaned it all up, repainted and wired the lights to the brakes. Was a great effect as with no brakes on it basically looked just as it did before but once you hit the brakes the DODGE would light up red, it really popped.
Edit: Should you do this mod be sure to use at least 1/2 thick plexiglass and taper it to match the taper of the raised letters. It will add stability to the metal you removed from the lettering.
My first attempt I used just 3/16 inch and it was a bit flimsy. I realized it luckily on the first letter I did and got 1/2 inch which worked perfectly and was easier to fit.

This is the same truck, same color my dad use to have in Venezuela. He bought it brand new. The difference is the bed. Wow what a memories. That truck is priceless for me !!!

I enjoy watching first starts and driven from the grave videos. Thanks for keeping it real!! I had my own forest fresh 76 F100 that had sat for 10 years under the pine trees. I had it running in a few hours after towing it into the yard from the neighbors. I've got it running good and tomorrow it's getting all new exhaust installed. Some Magna Flow glass packs and chrome turn downs, that should make it go faster!!!

Awesome find Dylan, I had a 73 D-100 and it had rotors on the front. Maybe the first year had drums. I love the distinct sound a Mopar starter makes. I thought I saw some wheel wobble on the right rear when you pulled away @19:57.

When I see classic American motors like this, which are still sound after so long sitting, I sometimes wish I was US based, rather than UK! Needless to say, if it had been sitting in the UK for that long, there’d have been nothing left...
Its a 318. You have to blow the guts out of them to keep them from running. lol You need a gas powered air compressor for the back of your truck.
I love seeing those old dodges come back to life! I've got a 1975 w100 about the same condition as this one when I picked it up... same color as well. Swapped out the half ton axles for some out of a 78 military power wagon, put a 340 performance cam, 4bbl carb and some long tube race headers on it. It screams like a drag car now lol

M773 did you see Junkyard digs restoration on the 1968 Ford F-250? It was sitting for more than double the amount of time that dodge was. It was also in much worse condition and it still ended up running easily.

My 1973 Toyota Pickup sat in my yard for 12 years after the brakes went out and started almost immediately and drove away with no problems. Loaded the old girl onto a flatbed and brought her to the new house. Started restoring it last year and it starts and runs flawlessly. Dad got it free as a wreck from a friend of my Grandfather's in 1989 and finished his rebuild in 1994. He only put about 17k miles on it as his work truck, so it has about 106k miles total. About 12k miles since engine and clutch rebuild. Nearly flawless mechanical condition aside from the brakes, but its absolutely horrid as far as cosmetics.

I watched this video and remembered my dad's 75 powerwagon. 2 days later I went and bought an orange 74 D200 extended cab long bed with a 318. It hadn't ran since summer. I threw a battery in it and drove it an hour and a half home. Love it. Metal door panels as well. I have pics but can't upload them here.

I did this exact same thing with my Dad's 1971 Dodge D100 Sweptline. It sat in a field in Texas for 14 years. Points, clean carb, battery and checked fluids and I was driving it down the road that weekend. Those 318's used to be put in the BelAir taxi cabs in NYC because they were so durable. I'm a GM guy but the old dodge trucks are cool.

Nice to see a guy who know how to start an engine after sitting, calm and then let it rev above idle so it run light when it wake to life. "rock" a little bit back and forward before you drive out, kind of make a little trail for the wheels to roll rather thn climbing out of a pit. Great vid and good luck

@@chuckhawes7519 1 yes, the other was tired and the trans was slipping before we got it so we just ragged it to death. The good one was in a hole and we we're rocking it back and forth the trans went then just put it to the floor just to throw a rod lol.
many people agree the slant 6's are the most durable gas production engines ever built, got a 318 now and its pretty bulletproof too
I have 73 w 200 dodge in my garage for 13 years, 2 days ago try to start I put gas in the carburetor and it works but the gas pump doesn’t work,

You find the coolest rides!! In New Jersey where I'm from, that truck would've rusted into a pile of dust from sitting out in the elements that many years. You must not live in the rust states.

I REALLY miss my 81 d100 with the 225 slant 6. Was a trooper. Come to fine out, the block had a hairline crack between 2 cylinders but it kept running. It also may have ran on only 5 cylinders at times, yet it kept going. Only had a 3spd auto but could hit 90mph. Only thing that killed it was a mechanic that left the engine in the rain, he was supposed to rebuild it with the parts I bought. I lost the truck when I bought yet another engine and hired another shop. Well they took over a year and then shit down on me and I lost the truck when they went out of business. Being out of state at the moment made it impossible to get the truck. I'm 1500 miles away. About $8k later and still no truck.

Yup, junkyard vehicles from the 70s and earlier are the 5H¡T! Good deals, cheap wheels and a lot of TLC get you down the road. Bought all my trucks and cars in junkyards before I was 27 years old. This was a really fun video to watch a lucky kid like you…

My daily driver is a short bed 98 dodge ram p'up. Iyears ago I bought a 71 datsun p'up and had to pull it out of the weeds, had been sitting up 6-7 yrs. Friend helped me pull it to his place. We drained everything, put new fluids, cleaned points, took carb apart and cleaned it, never bough a kit for the carb. I drove that truck for 8 years, then one day came home from work and started taking it apart, took me little over 7 months tinkering with it, stripped it to the frame. Rebuilt everything, not one bolt left unturned, it turned out great, drove it another 4 years and sold it to buy an 82 mazde p'up cause it had. 5-speed and air-conditioner. Drove it for 8 years, gave it to my daughter when I got me a short, stepside chevy with 350. The mazda still run great with 302 thousand miles on it, never did any work to the motor, still had the factory valve cover gasket. I always tell people 'it's just nuts and bolts', I love messing with old pick-ups. My first 'car was a 61 chevy pick-up'. Paid 175$ for it, my dad drove it home for me cause I was only 15 and did not have a lisence or a learners permit. Good old memories......

I grew up in my fathers black 1980 D150 custom that looked identical. It had the slant 6, which he put over 250k on before selling it to some guy who used it as a farm truck for years. I always wanted him to make it into a lil red wagon clone, but it never happened.

I've saved 4 or 5 old chevy trucks they do pretty good. I'll take any you don't want. 350 preferred .keep the fords

bet you a dollar thats one of those old state of tennessee trucks , they had a bunch of them , and the color , I bet it is... and the fact it's a radio delete truck , being someone has put that antenna on the drivers side ...
Maybe, but the thing people don't realize is that these trucks had factory orange colors. Not all orange pickups were state trucks.

That’s why I’m a fan of mopar trucks had me a few of them. Regret selling them.
