Not surprised, the chain was to low down...
To pull it out from the root you gotta go low. But even some tractors have problems pulling a tree like that. They have a good root system. An the ground is a bit frozen too.

Be careful when you're trying to pull down trees with a chain and a truck. I knew a guy who was killed when he tried that and the chain snapped, came through the back window, struck him in the neck and almost chopped his head clean off.

Just don’t use trucks to pull stumps. You can barely pull a sapling out with any truck.

20 years difference between this 1979 and my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. Wish mine still had that old Chrysler Corp. Whine! I always liked that sound from many Moons ago. Who else is with me here?

Those old 318's are beasts
You could tell the type of car by the starter. Dodge had the whine gm had a low growl and ford was a quick spin but fairly quiet sounds of a car guy childhood
Yup. I had a 66 Belvedere 383, and my older brother had a Plymouth Trailduster 440. Can't forget that Mopar starter whine.

It can be the heat of summer or the cold of winter. It doesn't matter if Dylan just crawled out from under a dirty old car or if he's been working in the garage all day. Hands down, Dylan has the best hair of any mechanic I've seen.

From the look of things you need to buy a tractor. No getting stuck and it pulls like crazy.
Glad to see she's gonna keep on trucking. And the valve train definitely sounds better now than when Derrick first got her going. Lol

Pro tip for pulling trees: Hook the chain about 4' up the trunk for some leverage.
I kept yelling at him, “ go high on that tree”!
Pro tip number 2, leave more slack in the chain so you can get some momentum up.
@@joeno215 yep. When I use my bronco to pull trees I use two chains for extra length to get a run on it.

LOVE Kevin's (JYD) description of Mopar starter sound "sick dolphin". My forest service truck is much the same but F250.
I fell in Love with Mopar starters as A Lil kid. Grandpa had a 1984 New Yorker 5th avenue . 318 4bbl. It was a Cream Puff ...I traded it for an 87 iroc.... Should have kept the New Yorker.

Throw ya some 3/4" plywood in that bed, fill it up with stovewood and you'll get a lot more pulling power out of it.

There's a trick to pulling out stumps. Run your chain over a large tire and to your bumper. It changes the angle of pull from horizontal to a pull up and out. There are videos on it out there, good luck!

Really like your videos, but if a youngster would ponder on it a bit, he might show a little more wrench twisting and lube spraying than trying to ride around and converse. You can always talk while ya work and I would like to see those hands get dirtier. Stay humble and keep the faith.

A for effort. When driving on a slippery surface with a useless 2 wheel drive if you have moments where there is traction slowly speed up so you have momentum to carry you over the slippery parts. Also pulling an oak stump is not happening even with a 4x4 unless you get into the root system and break that up. Oaks have a strong root system. Just look at the trees that are easily blown over in a storm. Oaks are not one of them.

Sorry bud, but when the previous owner doesn't even bother to check the rear brakes after 100k miles. Then the rest of the truck was neglected too. I doubt that they even changed the oil 🛢 🤔

I knew u would end up with this cause for one something was different about Derek in the video of this truck that's how he worked on it and did things and he did not even try to drive it home and I knew something was up with about that , an then when I seen your comment on his video then I definitely knew where it was going lol .

You took me back to my childhood, listening to that starter in my dad's '77 D100 every winter morning while pouring gas into the carb trying to get him to work. I hated it when he filled the gas tank, I'd get car sick from the fumes of the behind the seat tank. Man I hated that truck.
For what you want Henry to do you’re gonna need very aggressive mud grips and a posi trac in the differential that’s for sure. Have a Blessed One Sir.
Or hook your chain up high and pull down the top, it will tear the roots loose. Frozen ground no good !

This one would make a good resto series, given how rare the long flareside bed is...and how far gone it is. New clutch, new rockers/cab corners/floors, new bed, and restore the rest to original yellow Local Authority condition with a mechanical amber beacon on the roof. Just an idea 🙂 Love your vids, they brighten many a dull day. Thank you!
