    The 38cc is a split mag case in a glass fiber reinforced frame for weight reduction. Brilliant design at the time. All of the Redmax saws absolutely ripped. I'm ordering both tonight to tinker on and add to my pile of Chinese Redmax clones. The plastics on these seem good.

    Uncle Cy, you could open a saw retail shop with all those saws. Uncle Cy the KING OF POWERSAWS. I like those outboard clutches, I have those of my Husqvarna 340 and 350. Easy to get to like you said. A good liming and bucking saw. If I was a professional faller, which I'm NOT. I'd go with the inboard clutches, a lot easier to take the power head off, in case the bar got stuck, I'm sure. Always good to keep some felling wedges around even when bucking big girth logs.

    I just got the 5800 joncutter. I also got the recommended 20" bar chain combo which is 3/8 pitch, 0.058 gauge, 68 dl. But the instruction booklet calls for a .325 pitch. I installed anyway and eferything seems to operate ok. Didn't pull the sprocket off to check what pitch it is for sure. Impressed so far with power and operation.

    The Chinese cs4500 I have that looks almost identical takes a 19mm or 3/4 inch rim sprocket.
    It came with 3/8lp but I switched it to .325 as I had a bunch of .325 bars/chains and the 3/8lp was shot. I've since switched it back to 3/8lp with a 14 inch Chinese 018 or 025 bar, the chain that came with the bar was too short tho, it needed a 52 link chain which I had a bunch of. Anyways the jist of this is the saw is quite a bit faster with 3/8lp and the Chinese 018 bars have almost the same size tip as the .325 bars not the tiny ones like poulan bars.

  • @whiskeythrottlegarage7353
    @whiskeythrottlegarage7353 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cy, do you find this saw oils and clears chips and debris from the clutch area well? I picked up one to use for fence row cleanup; specifically areas where there was a good chance of leaves, dirt and trash that could be processed by the chain (wanted to exclude my newer Husqvarna's from this torture) and it seems to just soak everything in oil, mulch it all up together, and pack it in the clutch cover. I was curious if you have used this saw in similar conditions, with similar results?

    • @DIYwithUncleCy
      @DIYwithUncleCy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not had it do that to me. This saw does have an adjustable oiler and comes set high. You may be able to turn it down a bit so not as much oil comes out and that may at least reduce the problem.

I would have also ordered the 58 as well as the 660 and 372 kits id they had answered the many messages I sent. Now they're not replying to my warranty inquiries. True to form with China businesses sadly. At this point its probably best to buy Chinese stuff from domestic sellers.

      Good question. Most tempered steel i have used from china has been decent. Soft steel or mild steel ,different story. It tends to have blow outs when cutting and welding. Bethlehem Pa is the best quality steel . I was pricing car trailers today. I custom new Chinese steel trailer was the same price as a 78 usa trailer. The 78 was almost 1,000 lbs lighhter and max cap.was 2000 lbs higher. Compared with Chinese steel new production. Tool steel is much different than industrial.

      @@walliehart2055 I'm in Australia and have a friend who has a chainsaw business, he started selling "Archer Australia" chain which is made in China and was supposed to be good. Plenty of people on Arborist Site said it was ok. He stopped selling it because people started bringing it back, the quality was inconsistent, some was "ok" and the rest not so much. If an Australian company manufacturing in China and trying to get it right, can't, then I'm doubtful that most other chain is better. For chain I'll stick with Stihl, the new Husqvarna or Carlton.

    • @flatballs4097
      @flatballs4097 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the old stock Archer chain and it is decent. Best hand filed and try not to burn it up real bad and it works just fine.
      I got 200' for about $230 and it was well worth it. If you're good to your chains and don't let them get destroyed before you sharpen it there should be no problems.
